  • 1776 – Hampton Roads beatdown

16 men gathered for the 4th of July in Chesapeake City Park a Piglet beatdown.

A quick COP/Warmarama and the festivities commenced. Get in groups of 3 (with one group of 4) and complete the necessary exercises:

    R1 – 200 Merkins

    R2 – 200 Block Curls

    R3 Block Shoulder Press

R4 Run 1/4 mile to the Skate Park and complete 200 Flutter Kicks 4-Count (Upchuck-style) and run 1/4 mile back

    R5 200 Squats

R6 Run 1/4 mile to the stage and complete 200 WWII’s and run 1/4 mile back

    R7 200 Jump Ropes

R8 run 300 yards over to the Basketball court and complete 200 Dips and run 300 yards back

R9 run 1/4 mile to the playground and do 100 Pull Ups and run 1/4 mile back

    R10 complete 76 Burpess.

COT – Prayers for Free Fall for going into his 8th round of IVF with his M. Prayers for another Pax member who wasn’t there about Cancer treatments. Thanks we were given to some of the Pax members who have recently had good news/outcomes from prayer concerns.

NMS – YHC doesn’t travel much, and when YHC does its rarely to a place with F3. This was my second time posting in Hampton Roads and I’ve enjoyed both beatdowns. The 1776 is tough, thankfully we completed it in groups or else we’d likely still be doing it…

  • La Plage du Exercise

Three animaux dangereux launched at The Clinic in the wee hours of the mountain morning, lakeside. Conditions were sunny and 70. According to the fisherman ALREADY out at water’s edge, the following might have happened:

Mosey from 201 Rue Noblemaire to La Plage de Talloires. Circle up. Explain F3 to the FNG.

    COP:

    SSHs x50.
Dead Man Hang, moving into a little Broga.
    Hand Release Merkins x15.
    WWIIs x10.
    Flutter Kicks x20 (4 count).
    Imperial Walkers x10.
    Hillbillies x10.

Mosey to the Water’s Edge for Touch a Tree. Said exercise was explained. One time. No questions. Perfectly executed*.

Round of 4: HRMs, Flutter Kicks.
Round of 6: WWIIs, Monkey humpers
Round of 8: Carolina Dry Docks, Jack Webb

    * Jackie touched every 3rd tree. YHC assumes the distances between trees were not sufficient, so touching every 3rd tree extended each round. Push yourself, don’t hurt yourself.

Mosey to the dock. Line up for curb crawls. 1 merkin after the first round, then 2, and so forth up to 5, then back down to 1.

Mosey to the small grass field for Elevens. Merkins and WWIIs.

COT: Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

Close out with a jump in the lake to cool off.

NMS: Spider Runners will remember Jackie who joined us during an UpChuck Q up and down the UR hills some time ago. She’s a stud, to say the least (Wisconsin state champ and headed to run D3 cross-country at Smith College in the fall). She convinced her twin brother, Bobby, to join us. Bobby played high school football for one of the worst programs in the country (0-40 something?) as a kicker (not much work to be done). He’s a committed political activist with a decidedly left wing lean. The PAX considered “Milton Friedman” before ultimately settling on Super Duper Mansplaining, suggested by Jackie, and hereafter authorized to be abbreviated to Mansplaining. Like a man, he owned it. Good dude.

    Welcome to our FNG, Mansplaining.

** Note that the DNQ refers to “Does Not Qualify” as YHC has done his one Down Range post on this vacation.

  • Running with a PYT

When YHC started F3 it was a hard and fast rule you could post one downrange non-F3 sanctioned workout backblast on vacation, and this is said backblast. YHC found a PYT and the two went for a jaunt in the cool, rainy weather at Sandbridge. The PYT looked a lot like YHC’s M but seemed to be too chill for a lady who was on “vacation” in a 2-Bedroom Condo with husband, kids, and her parents. Anyways, we took off from The Sanctuary at False cape and ran south through Little Island City Park and down into the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge but didn’t make it as far as False Cape State Park. Conversations were had about various topics. We also ran briefly with a guy from Midlo who lives in Tarrington and YHC mentioned F3 and took the opportunity to try EH him.

  • A Titanic Run

One intrepid traveler launched from the banks of the River Lagan in the latest edition of The Clinic. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to crew of the HMS Tyne, the following may have happened:

Depart Donegal Quay, heading north / east along the River Lagan. Weave among the office buildings and former slips to the trucking terminal. Expressed condolences to Frank Sobotka.

Reverse direction moving one street west weaving eventually back to the banks of the Lagan to the foot bridge. Cross the Lagan and turn left / east, passing the HMS Tyne. A fine Belfast morning to the skeleton crew on deck. Proceeding north / east until arrival at the Titanic Museum, proceeding through the slip where Titanic was built and launched. Continue along the Lagan to the HMS Caroline until fencing ended the available territory. Reverse and head back to the launch point, continuing an extra .15 miles and back to make the full loop a flat 5.0 miles.

Number, name, and YHC took himself out.

Announcements (a mixture of up-coming events of YHC’s choosing):

Westhoe Meeting. Sometime this week. Already happened. Couldn’t make it.

Convergence July 4. Can’t make it.

YHC Qing Hoedown and Spider Run Q’s for July 15/16. Took name off Q sheet. Can’t make it. Sorry, Kubota, YHC is not the man you are.

July 17 Woodsman VQ, The Crossing. Can’t make it.

July 18 Meatball, Vinny’s Baseball (aka, Wiffleball). Can’t make it.

July 27, The Bridge. 07:30 a.m. This is a Beat Down in Buckingham. Join me in helping some men transitioning from detention to a free life. Provide a role model. Leave no man where you found him.

    NMS:

Belfast is not hot. Belfast is not humid. 50, clouds, and 20 MPH wind. But, sea level here remains flat along the docks. The BRR, this was not. This solid training run on a seasonally modest morning provided a nice tour of the Belfast waterfront.

It was interesting to run through the dock / slipway (the actual space!) where Titanic was built. Far smaller than YHC expected, or perhaps YHC is faster than YHC expected.

  • Downrange in the Nooga

Posted this morning while visiting my sis in our home town – Chattanooga, TN. A good beatdown, lots of coupon work and ended with playing knock out on the bball court. Nothing notable other than the fact that the Tennessee pax call the APD exercise “Pickle pointers.” I informed them of the correct name but apparently they thought they were too close to Alabama and could potentially offend their southern brothers. eyeroll emoji.

  • We Men Get Away

14 holy river rollers escaped their sleeping bags to honor a beautiful Charles City sunrise with a ride on the DTH pain train. The three FNG’s were not disappointed with the following 45min Thang:

    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  Sunrise and seventy with a gentle river breeze and an eager PAX ready to roll in the dewy lawn, let’s GO! This was maybe the fourth F3 “The River” beatdown for the annual WEAG men’s getaway, and a few F3 regulars welcomed back some of last year’s FNG’s, as well as a few new ones. Chaplain’s 2.0 Armadillo was given the long-awaited opportunity for renaming – as a young man who can outpace most adults on a long run, welcome PACER! We nearly lost Slapstick early on, gassed with just the warmerama, but the loving accountability of the F3 Credo held him in the pocket for the duration of the bootcamp. Also almost had a Merlot Splash from Slider but YHC was not fully honored as he was able to hold it together. It was an honor to lead as always brothers. Living Third, DTH

    Prayer Requests:

    • Traveling mercies for Trig heading to Germany and Broadway leaving for on a missions trip to Kosovo later today
  • Double Bird Surprise

    Double Bird Surprise

5 Amelia warriors rose to greet the dawn of a new day. According to legend, it went a little something like this…

    Wamerama: SSH x 20, DQ x 10, LBC x 20, FC x 15, AC x 20, HRM x 10

Mosey to Field of Dreams (aptly named youth soccer field behind the courthouse)

Beast of The East: This is an F3 classic! 6 rounds of 6 sets of 6 exercises. Round 1 squats, round 2 two count flutter kicks, round 3 two count lunges, round 4 strict merkins, round 5 WWII and an extra special round 6. When a Q respects his pax to the highest order he calls the grandaddy of exercises for the final round. Round 6 was burpees and if you are doing the math at home that is 6 sets of 6 burpees for 36 total burpees to close out the round!!

Lamplighter: Making our way back to the courthouse stop at each lamp post and complete 10 of a prescribed exercise. Light 1 squats, light 2 LBC, light 3 merkins, light 4 squats, light 5 LBC, light 6 merkins, wrap up on the courthouse steps for 10 final squats.

Numberama, namerama, Woodstock took us out.

Moleskin: At 5:20am an unknown vehicle drop slowly past the AO (we are using Judgement Day as a placeholder). YHC (your humble correspondent) watched carefully for a potential FNG. As the great Gomer Pyle (not to be confused with F3 Gomer) would say, surprise, surprise, surprise! The great EF Hutton emerged from the darkness to share his light. It was wonderful to see a familiar face and join us for a beat down. Beast of the East is no joke and one of the hardest workouts in the F3 Richmond Exicon (funny enough this was not in the F3 Nation Exicon). YHC ended up eating lunch at 11am. The Amelia boys are freaking bringing it. Woodstock and Boo Boo have posted at every single workout!! Welcome Kingpin (former Amish, turned Mennonite, turned Presbyterian, turned barndominium builder).

Announcements: Get in a run with Woodstock and his M (F3 name for wife and short for “M”ost important relationship) with the Amelia 10K training team. Come out to walk or run. Open to all ages and abilities.

Join Boo Boo sharing the good word at the River Run Presbyterian services held every Sunday on 10am at Amelia Academy. Bonus points this week for eating your weight in shrimp at the low country boil on Wed. See Boo Boo or Kingpin for details.

  • F3 Race City – Honeymoon’s Roots

YHC and fam arrived at Lake Norman at zero-dark-zero and checked to see if there were any AOs nearby. The Glen at Stumpy Creek Park of F3 Race City is 6 minutes away – no excuses. Lots of mumblechatter and good vibes. The PAX sends their regards to Honeymoon, who started in this region years ago. PAX did a mix of bootcamp, exercises with coupons, and finished with some Ultimate.

  • So a Thai Pad Is Not a Wet Noodle

YHC jogged from the Prudential Center, past Upchuck’s old smoke break spot at HBS, to the Harvard Stadium to meet up with the PAX. Dunder led a brief warmup then brought out his kickboxing gear, including boxing mitts and a Thai pad. YHC was not expecting to learn how to be kicked in the early morning gloom but got the hang of it. Dunder sends his regards to Heist – so does YHC! Tclaps to him and the other men who participated in the GTE last weekend!
