  • Thanks for Coming Out

Twelve oarsmen launched from the Huguenot Shipyard for the 5th Annual, 1st Inaugural First Watch Deliverance workout. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the toothless City Proper/SOJ combo hillbillies eyeing us, the following might have happened.

04:30 Secure the AO. Kubota (aka, Q-bota on site).

    04:35 YHC on scene.

    04:40 Lockjaw

    04:50 First Water.

Progressively crowded dockyard, and some stragglers asking themselves,”What time does the 05:00 paddle start?”

Posey (paddle-mosey) over to the North Bank. Circle up.

    Warm-a-rama

    Dead Man Hang
    Helicopters
    Don Quixote
    Copperhead Squats
    ‘Mercans
    LBCs
    Flutter Kicks
    Inverted Scorpion Kicks
    Scorpion Kicks

    Triple Check.
Partner 1: Bear crawl to that thing out there that Kubota pointed at in the darkness. No. That thing. Nope – the other thing. Yep, that one, nope, that other one. OK, got it.
    Partner 2: punching bag
    Partner 3: Wilson’s Dying Cucarachas

    Back in the boats.

Etes -vous prets? Partez!!! Sprintervals d’eau. Intermittent hard paddling, followed by light paddle. 6 rounds.

Somewhere along the line, Bacon Bits’ boat is swamped in the gale. Takes on water. Persists. Adapts. Overcomes.

Paddle upstream to the American Flag. Moment of quiet contemplation. Pictures. Fanfare. Celebration.

Slow paddle enjoying the sunrise. Back to the VSF, passing two actual shovel flags. And, scene.

    Announcements:

    Summer Tour continues.

Wildcat. Monday. El Alamo. Be there for the man. Life may be you against you, but it’s easier and better when we are there for each other.

Breaking Bread for June. Someone had to drop out for the last weekend in June. Who can step in and help out? (Remember: There is no Hot Potato for Breaking Bread – if you need to drop, pass the word and find a replacement).

July 4: Convergence at Forest Hill Park.

August 21: 100th Birthday Celebration. Come join us. First Watch. 05:00. Stamp your Tour Card.

NMS: No better way to start a day. Paddling by headlamp. Quick workout. Amazing sunrise. Coffeteeria. Plus, a cameo appearance from BT over coffee.

Thanks for coming out, fellas. Never gets old.

  • Participation trophies for everyone!

20 F3RVA HIM’s converged at the lush fields of NoToll to play Ultimate Frisbee this morning. Making four 5-man teams playing a couple games simultaneously was briefly considered, then scrapped for a bigger field with bigger teams.

Thugs sat it out still nursing an injury but getting some fine reps and stretches in while the rest of us battled it out on Field 1. Bromance was our only injury today, after maintaining a lethal presence on the field, he felt something snap in his calf so took the rest of the time to stretch with Thugs. OC then ditched his fluorescent penny and defected to Labrat’s team, where they went on a 4 TD streak to pull back into the lead. (We all know OC is the secret sauce.)

Notable disc vets were OC, DK, Snuff and Labrat who maintained a very steady presence in the field with (nearly) perfect throws, while we saw Rudy, Warby, Handshake, and Machismo dominate the end zones – both on offense and defense. Also when Labrat teamed up with Dealer and/or Snip short fast play TD’s happened quickly!

Honorable mentions to L Woods, Fandango, McRib, and Dry Rub – these guys staying moving and snatching the entire game!

Kudos to our other Respect Players – Scram getting in there to make plays and not getting re-injured, Rodeo Clown showing surprising agility and sticky fingers, and Mr Roper making smart short plays in the mid-field.

Both teams played very well, but Team Labrat won 9-8 in the final minutes. Looking forward to a re-match this Thursday at Timberwolf! Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • 3 Men, 3 Lakes

    easy breezy beautiful, breakfast club

  • Coupon Creek

Two SOJ usurpers stamped passports, hopped a clown car, and after hours of quality mumble chatter landed their craft safely at The Creek. They were greeting by five fierce natives of the north lands who resisted the takeover until they were placated with gifts of latex-dipped gloves. The wild northmen then gaped in awed silence at the gifts of coupons emerging from the aforementioned craft, and solemnly each warrior accepted a token of good will. Here’s what two bewildered deer witnessed:

And well, YHC tries hard… (emoji sunglasses smiling face here).  Thanks to our Daville brothers trying something new with a few coupons today. Not a lot of running, but it felt as much like a ruck as a bootcamp, so the burn was good. Keep posting fellas! Yours AYE! ~DTH

NMS:  This is a GREAT location and band of brothers, always enjoy coming up. The jabbing banter is rich and the fields are moist (if you dare to venture out of the parking lot). It’s been a lot of posts for YHC this week, and this was the third of four Q’s in a row, so it was great to mix it up with the KB crew. Shoulders are definitely feeling it already, making me wonder if I need a regular KB AO in my life… Appreciated the warm welcome today fellas. Yours AYE! ~DTH

After a brief warmerama we took a broad loop running around the park, west broad village, and middle school, stopping every 100 yards or so for some variable OYO reps. House Party commented toward the end he must have misheard about all the running, but he hang tough and saw it through. Total distance was 3.89 miles. All PAX were sufficiently satisfied. • The Stupidest Mile

    200m Lt. Dans
    200m Crawl Bear
    100m Reverse Frog Jumps

    Numbers/Names/Announcements/Prayer Requests

    YHC took us out

Final Thoughts: The Stupidest mile is actually less than a mile, but proved to be a time consuming, leg burning son of a bitch. Great job by everyone for pushing through! Always enjoy getting down to Bermuda Triangle – this definitely needs to be a stop for all this summer! Nice seeing Shaw-Shank back out. Respect to the teens for getting up early and getting after it.

Check Slack for details on the new Saturday AO at this location – starting in a few weeks.
