Two ruckers launched at 0700 and not only covered the miles, but deep conversation. Coffee afterwards at a local shop was awesome.
With this crew it never feels cold outside when together as a team.

4 runners met at BWES but decided to slow it down to a Ruck, according to the dog walkers this is how it went.
OG River Run route, from BWES circle in front of JRHS out to Robious left into River Downs, left up the big hill. Right on River Downs back to Robious and pass the Schools again.
4 Plus miles (YHC forgot to set his watch on time) House Party kept the official Milage
Numbers / Names Chaplain took us out (NTB took us out a second time)
NMS:
Title of this BB comes from how overly talkative House Party often is 😁 YHC thinks it’s probably because NTB and I Yap most of the time. Lots of good conversation this morning, no we didn’t salve all the worlds problems (or any) but we got to know each other just a little bit more. 16 degrees is just stupid, looking forward to 90 with 80% RH
A blast of cold came upon us, yet did not deter from getting out there for another Saturday morning ruck. Big Rig is in marathon training so he had the run part going, we ventured up and down the path using the hills as a way to strengthen the legs plus mind. There’s has been work with getting rid of dead trees and smoothing out the hill nearest to the far end(fact there’s a nice pile for training). The highlight was as we made a turn, someone was enjoying a little alone time, when he saw the lights come around, he took off so fast it was not funny. They better be happy the gate to exit was open if not, it would not have been pretty.
2 options for Sunday: one at Atlee I believe at 6am, Another take off spot(Twin Team) with Doozy and Chaplain at 6 the other on the south side in Chester starting at 7. Reach out on slack off any questions.
A great eight embarked predawn on the North Bank trails. Early birds not only get the worm, but the trail to themselves. Peace, tranquility, and an epic city skyline at the turnaround.
Negative splits for the return trip as we covered over 4.3 miles in 80 minutes.
Doozy took us out.
Coffee was excellent afterwards and it was great to see Gypsy and Homer back from their run.

A crowd of SIXTEEN mother ruckin heroes stormed the dark paths of Rockwood keeping a 14.5min/mile pace with a few stops to stay together and stretch. Mudslide again provided the course, and a total of 3.2 miles was achieved in about 50min of rucking. Big welcome to a few new ruckers – Meatball, The Block, Tobit and McRib. And welcome back to Doublemint who’s been away too long. LOVE the energy this GrowRuck is spurring in our Region – let’s keep it going and get everyone Registered for GTE#47!

TOMORROW (Sun 1/14, 0600) RUCK at Pump House Park – see Slack
6 SOJ ruckers, an F3 runner and some friends met Off the Books for ruck training around TwinTeam. Draper and some coworkers ran off into the Gloom in search of some hills while the rest of us hit the streets toward Robious Landing Park. What looked like a cliff near the river turned out to be the overflowing banks of the James. As most of the trails circle around to the river, access was not to be found today. Hopefully not too much damage to the park or floating docks. The only reasonable alternative was hit the TwinTeam hill, the ruckers never broke stride and crushed the hill with ease in route to a 5k in well under an hour.
More ruck options this weekend – Saturday pre-RockNRoll, and Sunday 6am at the Pump House. YHC had my doubts about rucking but I am already seeing the benefits – cross training, easy on the joints, opportunity for more fellowship, and getting back on the trails around RVA. We’ll add more Off the Books options during the week so be on the lookout – join the #rucking or #GTE47 channel for opportunities.
An intrepid nine met at the old stone house and embarked on a fine urban park hike. Conversation was aplenty, trails were slick, hills were welcomed. Roscoe chased after many squirrels and came so close.
70 minutes and a little over 3.6 miles.
YHC took us out.
Coffee was good and the conversation got to the heart of matters. Thanks for sharing this early morning with me.
A dozen hardened SOJ vets gave Rockwood the Morning Wood salute, with 9 GTE HIM’s Rucking 3.6 miles, Boberry joining Big Rig completing a pre-gloom half marathon (no big deal…), and State Farm getting swolt on the pull-up bars working on his “grip strength” …if that’s not the perfect Morning Wood joke, not sure what is… Anyway, way to get after it this morning gentlemen! Nine with weights closed out 2023 with the first official training ruck for the GrowRuck Challenge. We picked up the trail near the landing and connected with Riverside Dr heading down stream. 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back.
The river views were spectacular in the early morning. Mist over the river as the sun began to rise and various ducks, geese, and heron started their day. A tree had been freshly trimmed by a beaver with another day or so and the beaver’s work will be done with a felled tree.
An 8-point deer followed us from the higher ground, keeping a watchful eye over his domain.
YHC took us out.
