30 minute trail run prior to Rock N Roll

  • Its all uphill from here

2 runners and 2 ruckers decided to hit the wet pavement of the trails of Rock N Roll this morning. Florence and Boberry started on the early bird shift and managed to get in about 3 miles while discussing the Leadership Development Process section of the Q source. While running our normal paved trail, Mudslide had the great idea of pushing it to another gear and hitting the hills extra hard so YHC follow suit. It seemed like a good idea at the time but if we only knew what Florence had in store, maybe we would have taken it a little easier! Great work today!

  • Morning Wood

ÝHC made it out early for a pre ruck run. As I was finishing up 2 cars rode past me 1 of which was Footloose. The gloom was already starting to turn to light. I grabbed my Ruck and dumbbells and we started our trek. Caught up on what had been going on with each other since YHC wasn’t there last week. YHC was a bit overzealous with the weight of the dumbbells and Footloose had to carry one at least half of the time. Footloose said the time change was really making it difficult to schedule interviews at his job. Arizona makes it difficult since they don’t honor daylight savings. From what I’ve heard, this is the last time the time will change. Footloose said his forearms were feeling it ,especially after @Florence Kettle bell wrist curls yesterday. We basically did the normal route around the trail, and then made our way back to the parking lot. Still had time to do 1 more lap around the park. As we were hitting the home stretch Rosie passed us on his Morning wood Run. I wasn’t there, but apparently @Chaplain veered off from the Morning Wood Run to do some searching for places to bear crawl and crab walk during his epic Q. I’m sure that some good conversation was had in that group. I feel like a great time was likely had by all, and hope everyone has a great weekend!

YHC will not be at Rock and Roll next week. I will be in Myrtle Beach for a golf trip. If anyone has ever posted there, please let me know of suggestions.

    Have a great week!

  • Just what the Doctor ordered.

With the ruckers already on the move, Mudslide and YHC took off promptly at 6:30 to hit the trails. At about a minute or so in, here comes DTH sprinting to catch up with us. The weather was great as well as the conversation. Looks like YHC will be joining Mudslide and the crew for Rugged Maniac in April. Prayers for DTH and his family as travel and do great works!

  • Only Brighter Days Ahead!

After record temps only a couple days ago, 7 Men decided to come out in 30 degree temps for Morning Wood. 3 ruckers hit the early bird route and 4 runners hit our normal trail. After months of running in darkness and needing a headlamp at some point during the run, today was the first day in a long time that we didn’t need one at all. It was great having that sunlight, especially to protect us from debris on those dark trails. As we were running, I couldn’t help but notice Mudslides bone conduction headphone . I got a strong recommendation from all the PAX that those were the way to go so I hit Best Buy this afternoon and got my first pair. Cant wait to break these bad boys in!

    Thanks Fellas,

  • What happened to the heat?

After a couple days of around 70 degree weather, today brought below freezing temps. I arrived a little early and saw Doublemint, Footloose, and Big Rig rucking. 6:30 hits and here comes Big Rig, after leaving the others to continue rucking, dropping off his ruck and getting ready for the prerun. We hit our normal trail. Mumble chatter included family, work, Duke basketball, and how crazy this weather is.

  • Looks like the Morning Wood keeps getting bigger.

A total of 7 guys ditched the fartsack to get in a few miles before the beatdown. 3 Ruckers got a 30 min. jump on the runners. Rosie and I took off promptly at 6:30am and missed Shank and Mud Slide by a few seconds. We hit our normal paved trail through the woods and BTTF. Great talking with Rosie this morning about family and our next SOJ meeting.

    Nice turn out today fellas!

  • Morning Wood Triple Check

The Morning Wood faithful divided up on this chilly morning. Shank and I completed the usual paved nature trail. Did not realize that Mudslide was trailing us until we got back to the flag. Guess we were just running too fast. Florence and Footloose got an early start and rucked to points unknown. Great warm-up before Mudslide’s brutal beatdown. I enjoyed hanging with Shank and hearing about his journey from Brooklyn to Richmond.

  • Sticking to what we know

3 HIMs showed up to Morning Wood for a pre-run before the beat down. Florence and Footloose were already 30 mins. in rucking through the trails. YHC asked Chaplain if we should venture out of Rockwood park and cross Courthouse Rd. but we decided we would stick to what we know and hit the paved trail. Plus YHC just got a new headlamp that needed to be put to use. We hit the trail by the archery area, then by the water, and came out by the nature center. Its kind of scary running through those trails in the dark. You never know what you may run into. Maybe a snake, a bear or any wild animal. Today we ran into a speeding Big Rig! That guy is a real animal! We finished up by doing a lap around the parking lot for some extra distance and to stay warm for Big Rigs beatdown. Mumble chatter included the Frozen Triangle, rucking, and what kind of pack NOT to wear while rucking. We also talked about things we’ve seen work to grow F3rva in the past, as well as what hasn’t worked well. Finally, we discussed shared leadership, what it means, and ways to get those involved in leadership who want to. Great work today fellas!

  • Off The Grid

Dos Hermanos traveled to new ground outside of Rockwood Park. Ran across Courthouse Rd, took a left, ran down to Tommy’s Car Wash, took a right then ran down to Allen Tire. Turned around, ran in back of 2 churches then crossed Courthouse Rd again and BTTF. Many security cameras and flood lights were activated during this run. You may see us make the evening news as potential burglars to keep an eye out. Mumble chatter was strong including talk of our families, F3, Cardinal, football, rucking, and more. Always good to catch up with my brother House Party. Announcement : Starting 1/28 Morning Wood will also offer a Rucking option that launches at 6 am. Doublemint and YHC are looking to train more often with Rucking. House Party will lead the usual Pre-Run at Morning Wood at 6:30 am and is your go-to contact for that. SYITG!

  • What Lies Behind The Nature Center?

5 of us ran around the confines of Rockwood Park before Mudslide’s VQ. Chaplain showed up late but eventually found the rest of us. YHC took us down a new trail that starts behind the Nature Center building then cuts through the middle of the Trail Loop. Took a left when we connected to the main Trail Loop then circled BTTF and ran a couple more laps around the parking lot. Big numbers for Morning Wood today!
