  • No Toll Exodus

“Exodus is not just describing a ragtag group of people wandering around in the desert. It is describing how resilient people are made. It’s an eternal story of spiritual and moral formation that happens again and again and again.” – David Brooks, Second Mountain

24 studs wandered together in the most manicured desert that Chesterfield County has to offer. Despite freezing temps in The Piedmont, it was 70 and sunny at No Toll. According to local legend it went a little something like this.

    Mosey to parking lot.

    COP: SSH X 20, IW X 20, Lunge X 20, WWII X 20, FC X 20, HRM X 20, Arm Circle X 1

    Mosey to the Stepford fields.

RECTANGLE OF SUCCESS: Dividing the field into six stopping points including the four corners, two midway points and another back at the start. Pyramid merkins were on the agenda.

    • #1 10 Merkins
    • #2 20 Merkins
    • #3 30 Merkins
    • #4 40 Merkins
    • #5 30 Merkins
    • #6 20 Merkins
    • #7 10 Merkins

BUSHWACKERS: Partner up. One partner begins lunging the long way across the field. The other partner completes 10 Captain Thors. Once exercises are done, run to the lunging partner and switch. Lunges are to take place all the way to the end and back.

GRANDMAS SHAKEWEIGHT: Partner up. One partner begins to Crawl Bear long ways on the field. The other partner completes 8 Shoulder Tap Merkins. Once exercise is complete run to Crawl Bear partner and switch.

11s PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION: Elevens made themselves known. The exercises were burpees and copper head squats.

Mosey back to the flag. Numberma, namerma and the smooth and sultry voice that is Marmaduke led us out.

    NEWS:

DTH SHIRTS: Let’s be honest, we all wanna be Dr. Try Hard. Now imagine you can do that without having to go to medical school, VMI or kill a deer. Now you can look the part! In three easy payments of $19.99 you can get with your own DTH Shirt, which you can buy here. It’s extra to get your own name on it. https://backblasts.f3rva.org/2019/12/20/your-f3-name-shirt/

WINTER TOUR: The Grateful Dead, your weed smoking college roommate and F3RVA….do you know what they have in common? It’s not only a sweet hemp necklace or the ability to survive for days on acid and falafel. All of the above love a good tour. Oyster has organized the Winter Tour of 2020. Rumor has it he will be running the merch tent and an interactive sound forest.

OK BOOMER, I’M A SLACKER: Honey Do has set up an F3RVA Slack channel . He also sent out and email with some ground rules; the most important of which is no pics of TYA in his courtesy shorts. I don’t know who was taking those at BRR or how he got his ankle behind his head but the sharing of those and making memes about chicken legs and gonads has to stop. Excellent boundaries Honey Do.

MOLESKIN: Way to work today fellas! That many merkins and burpees would leave the wells of most men dry. Way to keep digging.

    Your pal,

    Hardywood

    MOLESKIN

Season 3 of F3 RVA Fantasy Football comes to its conclusion with the man who owned the league from start to finish on top.  Congrats to Opus and his unstoppable group of Lamar Jackson, Austin Ekeler, Michael Thomas and the Patriots Defense.  YHC was arguably the hottest team in the league at the end of the season, but it was too little too late for the Bandandits, alas disappointment, but the future is bright.  For many teams, ahem DK and Wilson, it was business as usual.  The business of losing.  BT joined them, while Sparky had his best season and Flatline once again missed the playoffs by a hair.  In the end only one team could bring up the six.  Marmaduke was a fantastic draft host and put up a respectable regular season, but once again found himself in the Toilet Bowl for the third straight season, snatching that coveted title away from DK.  Thanks to all who participated and YHC looks forward to next season.  Apologies to the innocent bystanders caught up in today’s Q.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Convergence 1/1 @ The Forge 7am

  • Christmas Clown Car

Twas the morning before Christmas with Draper in his sweatshirt and me in my shorts emerged from our cars for a 2 person beatdown. When what to our wondering eyes should appear but an SUV Clown car with 5 large men.

No Q, hot potato. YHC started with COP and 11s. Draper took over with a twist on Dora and then the Quarter Pounder. Nancy pushed us back to the flag with some native American run merkins and WW2s.

Wilson took us out with a extra prayer for Aisle 5, as he goes in for surgery Thursday.

Merry Christmas guys. Enjoy the time with family and friends.

  • Holiday Spirit

30 spirited men traveled from near and far to participate in a yearly tradition almost as popular as the classic “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”. EF Hutton wins the Holiday Spirit award showing up dressed as a present and everyone else gets a gold star for participating in the sing-along. I thought about making some changes to the program but realized I knew it too well and might confuse myself so we stuck to the same order, much to the PAX dismay, especially when we got to 12.

A short little COP to introduce the day with SSH, Helicopters, and IW, then onto the main event.

    • 1 – Dozen LBCs
    • 2 – Sprints across the field
    • 3 – Diamond Merkins
    • 4 – Imperial Squat Walkers
    • 5 – Burpees
    • 6 – Dips
    • 7 – 2-count lunges
    • 8 – Decline merkins
    • 9 – American Hammers IC
    • 10 – Flutter Kicks – IC
    • 11 – Crunchy Frogs – IC
    • 12 – Broad Jump Burpees

The PAX crushed it with enough time leftover for a big ring of fire.

Another year, another great turnout for the 12 days of Christmas. A big Thank You to all for coming out and letting me lead you this morning. Great times as always, only a few have posted every year and for some this was a first. Hardywood was sharing secrets on how he finished each round so fast, I think I heard him say “It’s genetic and unattainable” but maybe I was just hearing things. Great to have a few guys from the other side of the river, Hitchhiker, Garbage Plate, LinkedIn and EF Hutton join us for the festivities.

Reminder that we have a great thing with F3, Viral shared info about a viral video on linked in that a UK man made in which he admitted to having no friends. Link here Reach out to someone that hasn’t been out in a while or is a FNG and don’t give up easy, the EH takes time and we know how important it can be.

    NMS:

    • NoToll in December has never felt so breezy balmy. YHC waited a solid minute extra to kick-off this AM while at least 5 guys exited their vehicles. But 18 dudes is a GREAT crew. YHC noted that the old Partner Carry warm-up was generally ignored in preference to a typical jog to the parking lot. Thanks to the few game fellas who gave it a go. Felt good this morning to cuddle up close to that oh-so-soft NoToll turf. Glad we could make good use of it on such a nice morning. Thanks to everyone for pushing hard this morning, and always humbled and thankful for the opportunity to lead such great men. Get out there and be a footstool for someone today – everyone needs a lift closer to the Almighty. SYITG

Thanks for the opportunity to lead. This workout would have been better on a wet day because we avoided the blankets known as NoToll fields. Lots of activity near the cars this morning.

    NMM

Thanks to all the PAX for posting at Notoll this morning.  It truly meant a ton to me.  I know a lot of you missed your normal AO’s and drove way out of the way to be there.   To be surrounded by so many good friends on this day was special to me. Thank You!

Special thanks to Lab Rat for bringing the coffee fixings from RAISE this morning.  A great treat and incentive to enjoy a little extra second F.

Today was tribute to my Dad, Donald Vincent Salvucci – Sal.  He was born on 5/18/1932, died on 1/16/1989.  He was alive for 56 years, 7 months and 28 days or 20,670 days.  A short time to be on this earth.  Today, I turned that same age.  As such I wanted to say thanks to my father for everything he taught me.

I learned a ton from my father during his lifetime. Too many things to name, but a few of the most important were: A love for sports, hockey in particular, a massively competitive spirit, a strong work ethic, respect for all people on the earth regardless of how someone would like to categorize them, and a wit and sense of humor.

When he passed away in 1989, it came as a shock.  I had seen him the night before, and he appeared to be in good health. It took me a while to regroup and recover. Since my Dad was a teacher and dedicated to life long learning, I vowed when he passed away, that I would learn from his death. I would take the lessons of his death and change my life accordingly.

Since that day in 1989, I have done many things and changed a lot about how I live my life.  A few of the major things that I know I would not have done without the lessons I learned are: going to business school, adopting two children in my late 30’s, traveling to and exploring many countries, starting a business, and making sure that I took care of my body.  These are just the major things.  In everyday life, I make little decisions that are a result of that day.  I shut the TV off while I’m watching my favorite team so I can talk to my daughter or spouse, when someone asks me to go on an adventure or try a new challenge, I accept, when I am impatient or frustrated with anyone in my life, I take a few deep breaths.  What I have learned from that one day is that even in the darkest times, if you look hard enough, you can find good, and you can learn.

    Thanks Dad
