  • Fall Classic Tribute – 2017 Style

A hearty 17 posted to NoToll for what will be a familiar sight at NoToll and SOT for the month of November…a Gumbo Q,  YHC planted the flag and off we went moseying to the back parking lot for COP, including:

    • 5 Burpees OYO for each of Alex Bregman’s (LSU product!) 5 World Series RBI, including the epic game-winning RBI with 2-outs in the 10th inning off arguably the best closer in baseball…BOO-YAH!
    • SSHs x25 for the number of runs scored in the aforementioned epic Game 5 that spanned Sunday into Monday and is YHC’s excuse for not posting at River Run – I should have just stayed up.
    • DQs x 10 S-L-O-W
    • Helicopters x15
    • Imperial Walkers x15
    • Tempo Merkins x10
    • LBCs x20

    Pre-Game Warmups

Mosey to edge of the parking lot and form up in 4 lines for some customary baseball warm-ups:

    • Sprints the length of the parking lot – starting of course like you are leading off first-base and stealing second (or so I’m told). Wait for six and then head back.
    • High Knees down and then back
    • Karaoke down and then back

    Game 6 Relay

Break into two teams – Astros (8 men) and Dodgers (9 men – a handicap since they are down 3-2 in the series).  Each team form a plank line in the corner of the parking lot.  First man in line sprints the perimeter of the parking lot back to the back of the plank line and next man takes off when first returns…so on through the line.  The Dodgers damn near won the relay despite the extra man as POSH was breathing down YHC’s neck the whole way around the parking lot.  Good thing YHC held off or else a decisive Game 7 Relay would have been needed to award the World Series (of F3 NoToll Relays) Trophy.

    HR Box Jumps

Mosey over to the Pavilion for YHC’s favorite box jumps.  In honor of the record-setting 22 home runs that the Astros and Dodgers have already hit in this years Fall Classic, each PAX member found some bench and performed 4 rounds (one for each base) of 22 box jumps.  A 10-count plank breather between sets was offered up for those that wanted it.

    Epic Game of Box Cutters

Pair off and together as a team perform 315 box cutters Dora Style – equal to the total number of minutes it took to play Game 5.  One PAX member runs the width of the field and back while the other performs box cutters – flapjack and repeato until you reach 315.

    Cooldown Mary

Mosey back to the basketball court for 5 MOM, including Freddie Mercuries, APDs, Flutter Kicks and 5 more Burpees OYO.

COT, number-rama, name-a-rama and YHC took us out

    Announcements:

    • November is breathing month and Merkin month – sign up and participate in the monthly challenges.
    • November 11 is the Hampton Roads 1-year Convergence.  Some guys are talking about heading down to reclaim the Ghost Flag….coordinate.
    • November 12 – Men’s 4-miler in C-ville.

    NMS:

A great group out at NoToll this morning.  A lively bunch with lots of encouragement during the Relay, though it quieted down a bit when the box jumps and box cutters came to town.  Kudos to the Dodgers team for smoking the relay and nearly overcoming the extra-man deficit.  I for one have NEVER seen Flashdance move that fast – way to push it brother.  Thankfully, YHC didn’t blow the save like the actual closers for the Astros seem to like to do, but I tell you I felt condensation on my neck from POSH’s breathe.  Good times!

I hope everyone has a safe, fun and happy Halloween!

Until next time…No More Gumbo for You!

  • Push yourself because NO ONE else is going to!

On a balmy Tuesday morning 10 men decided to enter the Gloom of No Toll for a session of pain.

Here is how it went down:

COP exercises all x 25 – SSH Merkin, Ticep Push ups, LBC’s, Squats, Don Quiote, Imperial Walker

Mosey to main field for a session of Field Hockey Ladder Runs

Each PAX hits the ball Pax sprints to the ball, mosey back then sprint 1/2 the distance, mosey back. If Pax did not increase distance each hit, 5 Burpees. Jville & mr. Roper got longest hits – However it must be noted Mr. Roper did “whiff” the first round!

X Runs – sprint from corner to corner mosey on short side of the field, then sprint to the next corner.

Mary – Cross Leg Lifts, Pickle Pounders, Homer to Marge, Superman, Alabama Prom Dates

    Mosey to the flag.

Recently my oldest 2.0 (F3 Name Styx) was sidelined from her Varsity Field hockey team with a knee injury. Not a Bleeder or Saab style that takes you completely out, but one that just lingered until finally a doctor pulled her and said rest. I think it was 5 or 6 weeks where she did not practice or run. After a few weeks back she turned in a 7 minute 9 sec mile. She inspires me with her tenacity to improve and take a challenging situation and turn it into a positive.

I say all this because as she was not on the field, she kept saying, Dad you could never do one of our workouts. So as you might know, I like to be challenged. Today’s workout was inspired by her. If I did exactly what she said, we would still be out there!

    Tobit took us out.

  • Magic Number

15 willing and able men answered the bell this morning and posted for a cool fall morning workout.  The air was crisp and cool as fall weather should be much better than hot and muggy like last week.  YHC rolled in with a minute to spare and no worries about being late.

    THANG:

Mosey to the soccer field for a warmup of SSH, cotton pickers, Moroccan night clubs, alternating shoulder taps, LBC, and Peter Parkers.  1 minute of AMRAP Burpees – Keep count, it will be your Magic Number for the morning

Mosey to the corner of the field to start 4 corners using you magic number – Corner 1 – merkins magic number x1, Corner 2 – Jump Squats magic number x2, Corner 3 – Flutter Kicks magic number x 3, Corner 4 – mountain climbers magic number x4.  Plankarama  Reverso also reversing the counts (Heavy on the merkins in corner 4)

Mosey to the other soccer field and partner up – P1 Magic Number of Donkey kicks on the fence then plank, P2 – backward run to midfield and forward run back.  Repeat x3

Modified Beast – Use half of your magic number for each stop – WWII, Monkey Humpers, Carolina Dry Docks

Mosey back to the VSF for Mary – Freddie Mercury, Crunchy Frogs, APD (nice and slow for Aisle 5)

    NMM

Again, great to see Aisle 5 out for a second day in a row.  Love the commitment to getting back into the groove!  Also Kotters to Sin Bin, hopefully he’ll become another NoToll regular like Shooter has been recently.  The New Market mumblechatter was strong today with Wilson, Honeymoon and Marmaduke all feeling chatty.  Mr. Roper may have been feeling more than alive talking about a morning wake and bake session.  I thought that was normally for dudes that woke up after 10am but to each his own.

The Magic Number theme of the day was an attempt to keep the PAX together a little better while adding some reps for the guys that are normally leading the group.  Flashdance was crushing it out in front of the PAX on the 4 corners, as he said, “Every dog has it’s day”.  YHC had the exercises planned but did not think about the number of merkins that would be prescribed on the Reverso 4 corners, the over-achievers got crushed.  Jenny Craig busted out a ton of burpees hoping for some relief on the back end but the Q did not accommodate.  Maybe that’ll teach him to keep his shirt on.

Way to get out and get some tough work done this morning men.  It doesn’t get easier, you get stronger.

    Everything is coming up Rosie.

  • Bad decisions were made this morning…

YHC rolled up to No Toll this am to see Gumbo finishing his mile-great commitment Gumbo! And the cars kept rolling in…19 men showed up this am to see if Flatline could count correctly! Ever since YHC first Q, all exercises have been found at the Exicon on F3 homepage or modified slightly.

Mosey to the parking lot for COP-X15 arm circle (10 small, 5 big),  X15 Imperial Walker Squats, X20 Don Quixote, X15 Merkins, X15 LBC. And mosey to the soccer field…

Exercise 1-WMD Crawl (Werkin, Merkin, Diamond Merkin) Bear Crawl……starting, x10 Bear Crawl/X5 Werkins, X10 Bear Crawl/X5 Merkins, X10 Bear Crawl/X5 Diamond Merkin and repeat previous 3 exercises in exact order to the end of soccer field back. Now, before PAX started there was plenty of mumble chatter…”the entire field”, “that’s a lot of merkins..” YHC knew the exercise was perfect when Rosie chimmed in, “..how far.”, or something to that extent. And, if Honeymoon ever needs another F3 name, “Bleeding Gash” would be perfect….I mean full of verbage this am. But the mumble chatter added to the experience…TOTALLY! YHC could not hear anymore complaining so an audible was called after finishing one length of the field. I mean BITCHING galore…so YHC switched all merkins to lunges-X10 Bear Crawls/X5 lunges for length of soccer field. Planks, waiting for PAX to finish. Mosey to parking lot, specifically, plenty of curb space….

Exercise 2- The Butkis, in honor of Rocky’s dog! One minute toe touches to the curb, as fast as possible. One minute Al Gore with a few touchdown poses than one minute of toe touches, as fast as possible. We performed two cycles of this exercise. Rosie did point out to YHC that we may need to move to a point in the parking lot with light since YCH could not see his stopwatch. Others suggested just buying a new watch!! But YHC’s worked fine….just fat fingers from my gloves trying to his light button. Small ass buttons…………and mosey back to soccer field.

Exercise 3-Super 21. Again, all exercises are listed in exicon or modified, including Super 21. You vs You. 1 merkin, 1 burpee, 2 merkins, 2 burpees, 3 merkins, 3 burpees, 4 merkins, 4 burpees…..continued till 21 merkins and 21 burpees are finished. Again YHC heard, “you mean we are going to do both exercises…” and “…more merkins..” And yes, even Rosie was adding to the mumble chatter. Honeymoon was full of himself this morning, and yes more bitching. So after YHC performed 9 merkins and 9 burpees and my ears could not hear anymore. AUDIBLE!! To the baseball courts…oops, I meant basketball courts. At least, I got the counting right this time. Mosey to the courts…

Exercise 3-Dora-cides. Partner up. One partner runs suicides while other partner performs stated exercises and flapjack…suicides and X100 Arm circles, Suicides and X 200 LBC’s, and last, suicides and X 300 squats. And with one minute left in YHC’s workout, all PAX members did 1 suicide, AYG(all you got). Short mosey to parking lot…

Number-ama, name-r-ama, and announcements, of which there were none. Except, Wilson–“dogs and kids.” Marmaduke took us out!

Great showing this morning. Thank you for following and YHC knows he did something super when Rosie is involved with mumble chatter about YHC’s exercises!! Great to see newer F3 brothers continue to post-POSH, Ram Man, Ollivander as well as some old faces, Flashdance-good to see you brother!

I am blessed to be able to get out of the fartsack and lead the PAX this morning!! I will always be thankful for this group and the men I have come to know and call my friends!!!

    Loud and Proud,

    Flatline

  • Not Charles Bronson, but Close

Thirteen of the faithful gathered on a fairly “slow-day” (at least in terms of numbers) at NoToll. The weather was crisp — so much so that there were groans upon first reclining in the plush grass. Johnsonville (YHC) took the Q, and this is what went down, more or less:

Warmup with 25x ssh, 25x scorpians, 10x merkins, 25x IWs, and 25x DonQuiotes.

Mosey to back parking lot. 10 burpees, then run the Four Square in the parking lot (run four laps around the perimeter of designated area sprinting side 1, then next time around sprinting sides 1-2, then next time around sprinting sides 1-3, and then next time around sprinting sides 1-4). Plank

Mosey to back right field. COP arm circles. 10 burpees, then run the Four Square in the back right field. Plank

Mosey to the back left field. COP under the light near the shelter — flutter kicks. 15 burpees, then run the Four Square in the back left field. Plank

Mosey to the front left field. COP under the light near the shelter — Boats/Canoes (WHITE DEER!). [FAKE NEWS ALERT ~ THIS ONE WAS PLANNED BUT DID NOT HAPPEN –> 15 burpees, then run the Four Square in the front left field. Plank]

Mosey back to SF. American Hammers.

COT with Viral taking us out

    MOLESKIN:

We had some fast runners out at GridIron this morning (or else I was extra slow). Rosie gets special mention for having run there and back home. This was a workout of fairly constant cardio pressure, and several commented on how similar it felt to Saturday’s Charles Bronson.

There were comments about how much the Boat/Canoes and wheelbarrows Saturday hurt. (Mouth of) Wilson was particularly mumble-chattery this morning, even going so far as to attempt to shorten the duration of planks. I did not hear RammMan say a word this morning, but I have a feeling that he was quietly/silently criticising YHC with extreme prejudice.

Thanks for posting this morning! Jville

  • Garden of Eden…Proper Attire Required

18 strong came out for a beatdown at the plush, well manicured lawns of Hugeonot Park for the Tuesday No Toll edition of the Tuckahoe Takeover.

    THANG

    SSH X25

    DQ X15

    Imperial Walkers X15

    Merkins X12

    Freddie Mercuries X15

Mosey to the Pavilion between the fields, Pair up then one partner does 10 box jumps on the bench while the other partner does LBCs.  Repeat 5 times so each partner does 50 box jumps.

Mosey to the adjacent field for a fitting game of croquet.  Three groups of 6 lined up in the tunnel of love and one man crawled through.  Start at the end line and repeat until group has made it across the midfield line.

Mosey to other field for a few versions of the ladder from end line to mid-field.

    Merkins 2-4-6-8-8-6-4-2

    Jump Squats 2-4-6-6-4-2

    WWII situps 2-4-6-6-4-2

Mosey back to basketball court for a triple check.  Balls the wall (or fence), elbow planks and run to the far side of the second court and back.  Repeat 5 times.

The pax then circled up to finish off with a ring of fire with 3 separate members doing 10 Merkins each for two trips around, then 3 burpees each for one trip around before wrapping up.

    Moleskin:

This was YHC first trip to No Toll (I had just traveled internationally so my passport was up to date) and was quite surprised at the green freshly cut fields of No Toll – it was like working out in your living room compared to some of the West End AO’s where the grass might be cut once a quarter.  Many of the pax were dressed in appropriate attire and would have been welcome at any cocktail party in Old Westham or anywhere along River Road!  Several worked out in loafers, bermuda shorts were worn and Gumbo even doubled down with the double Izod with the popped color.  Very nice my good man!

  • Slowing things down at NoToll

18 soldiers congregated at Huguenot Park for an SOJ beatdown that went something like this:

Mosey to North Soccer Fields for Merkin Ladder: run width of field, 2 merkins, run back, 4 merkins…repeato by 2s up to 16, repeat 16, then come back down. Plank-o-rama

Abbreviated Beast: jump squats, box cutters, merkins

Mosey back to flag for 3 min of Mary: American Hammers, Hello Dollies (slow counting), 20 LBCs OYO

COT – Gumbo took us out

    Naked Moleskin:

    Today’s workout was not easy.

YHC had no idea that slow-counting the BoxCutters would lead to so much complaining. Wow.

The Merkin Ladder smoked many of the PAX, YHC included, so 15 min in and many of the PAX were gassed. #crowdpleaser

Don’t get into a bear crawl competition with McRibb unless you’re betting on McRibb. He & Gumbo completed Love Field before they could even start lunging. Respect.

Good to see Posh back out for his 3 post since his first last week. Keep up the strong work!

19 strong men came out for our lucky jackpot event.   Evan after the BRR the runners were strong. And the rain held off just enough for our jackpot beatdown.  Some remember when I brought this out the last I think everyone enjoyed the simplicity of the event!!!

    The Thang:   Circle up

    20 SSL

    20 LBCs

    10 cherry pickers

We teamed up in 2s with one man running and one starting a physical activity. We ran around the field once and than pick up where our partner left off.

    1 Run/ 250 merkins

    2. Run/500 LBCs

    3. Run/750 jump squats

It was a pleasure to lead this morning and so see all the BRR folks back in one piece.

Thanks J-Ville for taking us out with a prayer.

FYI I only count 18 who am I missing?

  • 62-0 Deserves Some Punishment

14 veterans broke the hold and posted for a post-holiday weekend workout.  Although YHC did not promise a taper-friendly workout and HoneyDo did, several BRR participants showed up to test me out.  Other than some early punishment, I took pity on our BRR buddies.  Here is how it went (more or less):

Mosey to the back parking lot for COP, all IC, including:

    • SSHs x20
    • DQs x12
    • Arm Circles x10 small, x5 big forward and reverse
    • Copperhead Squats x15
    • Imperial Walkers x20
    • LBCs x20
    • Flutter Kicks x20

    THANG:

Short mosey to the field and partner up for some punishment.  Its all great for your team to take a payday and play against a 1-A team in week one, but for God’s sake Keydets, put some points on the board.  So, with your partner, complete 62 Burpees.  One partner does burpees while other partner planks.  Break them up however you like, but YHC suggested 2 rounds of 10 and 1 round of 11 for each partner.

Catch our breath with some APDs IC

Short mosey to the pavilion and keep your partner for Dora 1-2-3.  Exercises were 100 jump squats, 200 box cutters and 300 single-count mountain climbers.  Other partner runs across the field and back.

    Plank-o-rama

Mosey back to the basketball courts and circle up for Ring of Fire – 2 rounds.  Round 1: hold plank and bear crawl to the half-court circle and perform 10 Boo-Yah Merkins with your partner, then crawl bear back and Al Gore for the six.   Round 2 – hold Al Gore and when it comes to you drop and do 10 Merkins then back up to Al Gore for the Six.

6 MOM, including APDs (yep, double dose today), Flutter Kicks, Freddie Mercuries, Hello Dollies, Rosalitas, American Hammers and Superman

COT – number-rama and name-a-rama, then YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • BRR is upon us.  Good luck fellas.
    • ReeseStrong 5K and Crabs 9/16 (see pre-blast);
    • Convergence 9/30 at GridIron (0600 and 0700 workouts or come early and stay for both hours);
    • DK’s survivor pool is up and running – get your picks set and get DK $10 – either paypal or cold hard cash at a workout, like YHC did this morning

    NMS:

Mumblechatter was high this morning and the PAX had lots of encouraging words for the Keydet football team after the initial exercise was explained.  All welcome, except for the jab from the Davidson Wildcat — really, you guys don’t even have scholarships on your football team.  In all seriousness, it was all deserved and well-earned by the Keydets this weekend.  Indeed, no Touchdown Al Gore for them.

I hope the BRR guys felt pushed but not crushed today.  I think there was plenty opportunity to take it at your own pace and I hope you guys did.

We wish you all well and hope you all slay your individual legs and kick ass collectively.  Have a blast and I hope you all return without injury.  Good luck fellas.

Oh, and according to Mr. Roper, whoever is in Wilson’s van will get to enjoy some tight buns…

    No more Gumbo for you!

  • Rainy Improv

Seven fearless regulars and one bold FNG descended on NoToll this morning for a wet start to the day.  In an attempt to keep the PAX as dry as possible, here’s what transpired….

    Mosey to pavilion for COP

    SSH x 25

    DQ x 15

    Imperial Walkers x 15

    LBCs x 30

    Merkins x 12

    Onslaught of 11s

11s were slightly modified…perform both exercises at pavilion before running the field and back

Round 1: Box jumps and WWII situps

    Plankorama

Round 2: Derkins and Box cutters

    Plankorama

Round 3: Inclined merkins and American hammers

Mosey back to the invisible flag for numberama, namerama, etc.

YHC had, what he thought was, a decent beatdown lineup for NoToll this morning.  However, pounding rain woke YHC up at 4:30 and thoughts of keeping the PAX dry and improv ensued. YHCs M thought he was a bit on the slow side for heading out this morning…but duty calls. Arrival at NoToll found Rosie and Gumbo already present and YHC was relieved to not be leading a workout of one. Five more (including an FNG) arrived right on time.

Knowing how much water the NoToll fields hold, YHC thought some rounds of modified 11s would be welcomed. The modification (that is, performing both exercises before running) brought about some confusion from the PAX (including YHC) but that’s what you get when improvising.  The cool rain seemed to be invigorating and the PAX crushed the workout.  YHC figures it won’t rain every Tuesday and his planned beatdown will make at an appearance at some point.

Welcome to GED (FNG-Dan). Way to be for posting first on a rainy morning.
