  • Bringing back the Regular NoToll OG!

17 studs answered the call to test themselves and showed up to NoToll knowing (or they should have known) what was coming. OG is back, and it will be a regular (quarterly) thing at NoToll.

YHC was feeling generous so we started with a little COT stretching by the cars and then I grabbed Old Glory and off we went – back to the back lot and fields and twice around. Thanks to Rosie for taking OG for a lap. Old Glory was planted in the front field, the timer was set for 20 minutes and AMRAP 4 corners around the entire facility was the order. Corner 1 – 20 merkins. Corner 2 – 20 jump squats. Corner 3 – 10 burpees. Corner 4 – 20 WWIIs. Go until time is called. Then, meet back at the flag and 2 more laps – native American style and back to the cars.

Here is the link to add your laps for today: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-L8e9W24ygnU0suaGyKxzi1PgPqY1CBd57hLrKTZI-g/edit#gid=1717732871

    Great work men!

    COT, Numbers, Names and prayers.

Prayer requests for DTH’s sister (starting chemo), Juanita’s nephew, and the daughter of Radar’s friend. Add these folks to your prayers tonight and going forward. We all know there are more prayers needed then those that were spoken, so add a few extra too for the good of the cause. Lots of stress and anxiety going around and a lot of folks just feeling heavy with life right now. Keep an eye (and 2 ears) out, increase the patience and lend a helping hand or caring ear and shoulder when you can. Take care of each other.

  • Fields of …. Glory

A dirty and soon-to-be slushy dozen posted to No Toll to see what was up. Here’s how it went down:

The THANG: grab the shovel flag and mosey to the lower parking lot for Old Glory

Two laps around all fields (1 mile)

    • corner 1: merkins x 20
    • corner 2: jump squats x 20
    • corner 3: burpees x 10 (x 20 if you’re a Davillian)
    • corner 4: WWIIs x 20

    AMLAP in 20:00 minutes

Two laps around all fields (1 mile) to Double Your Pleasure™️

BTTF for Merkin Ring of Fire and some old man cool down stretches.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

NMMS: “…the mind changes and converts every hindrance to its activity into an aid; and so that which is a hindrance is made a furtherance to an act, and that which is an obstacle on the road helps us on this road.” Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 5.20 (trans. G. Long (1862)).

The PAX found many obstacles on the road this morning – mid 30s temps (a/k/a 70 degrees and sunny), wet-ass ice fields and a Q determined to run through them and do burpees. As individuals and a group, the PAX adapted, overcame and embraced the suck — pushing themselves and each other to do something hard instead of easy; to get more comfortable being uncomfortable.

When life cuts you or those you love a raw deal, will you raise your hand and say “I got this”? You can find an answer in the Gloom.

Numberrama, Namerama, Announcements, YHC took us out

    MOLESKIN

It been a long time since YHC Q/participated in a Old Glory so when its Veterans Day, the Q was open on YHC’s next time of the tour, you just have to take it and do Old Glory.

It was a great morning where the PAX stayed together and some great 2nd F mumble chatter.

Dogwood was packed together with that other bootcamp group who is always a LIFO, some elite runners, and other group of runners. Good to see people out enjoy the warm weather while it last.

T-Claps to all our veterans! Thank you for serving and protecting this great country

  • Patriot Day at Twin Team

5 PAX braved the swampy air just south of the James to join together for a beat down on Patriot Day at Twin Team. According the awesome trucker who gave us a “toot toot”, here is how it went down:

    COP

DTH grabbed the shovel flag it was carried proudly to the top of Twin Team. Stopped at the bottom for quick welcome and disclaimer. Don Quixote and Russian Soldiers done in cadence. Then back down and head to dirt track between playgrounds.

    The THANG

Plant the flag for an Old Glory. 20 minute timer set. AMRAP 4 corners with 20 merkins, 20 jump squats, 10 burpees, 20 WW2s. As we neared the end of the time, we returned for the six and finished as a unified PAX. Carried the flag back the way we came, up Twin Team and back down to the parking lot. (BTTOSFS)

Numbers, names, announcements (see below). Instead of a normal COT we ended with a moment of silence.

    NMM

YHC didn’t realize when grabbing the Q which day it was. There was a strong feeling within to do something appropriate today. What could be more appropriate than an Old Glory with two runs up Twin Team? It was great to see different members of the PAX volunteering to take turns carrying the shovel flag throughout the work out.

As shared at the COT, 9/11 was the single deadliest terrorist event in history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and police officers in history. We have a lot to be thankful for.

  • Mary Found the Glory

    American Flag

Nine of greater RVAs finest gathered at Mary today, including one who seemed to be lost and arrived very early. After strategically locating a hole for the flag, we gathered to chat and then off we went, picking up said flag for a quick mosey down Commonwealth to Cary.

    The Thang
Old Glory. One mile route was west on Cary, north on Westmoreland, east on Hanover, south on Woodlawn, back to Cary.

Use the entire field area up to the school for 20 minutes of 4 corners. 20 merkins, 20 jump squats, 10 burpees, 20 WWIIs.

After completing between 3 and 4 loops for those with varying abilities, gather up and reverse course for the final mile.

Back to the parking lot for COT where announcements were made and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
It’s been a long time since YHC has completed an Old Glory and this may be the first appearance at Mary. The soup was thick and the breeze didn’t help much until we stopped.

Fellowship was grand this AM as we all battled the elements. No hiding from the pain this morning and it was everywhere.

SJ – hope that ankle isn’t too bad and your ice maker starts making ice soon.

    Announcements
Prayers out to Profit and Doublemint as they recover from their respective accidents.

    See everyone soon.

  • OG – Irregular Quadrilateral

Four eager gentlemen gathered under the waning crescent for this morning’s iteration of Hoedown. Toto gathered his thoughts in his car, then emerged and off we went for an irregular old glory.

Grab the flag and head south on Forest. Through the parking lot, left on Crest, left on Sunset, right on Lakewood, left on Hillsdale, wave to a sleeping Lockjaw, left on West Drive, left on Lindsay and back to where the flag was for the completion of the mile.

    The Thang

    • Run to recycling center for 20 merkins
    • Run towards the drop off loop, u-turn back up the stairs and to the gaga court for 20 jump squats
    • Up the hill, through the mulch and pick your monkey bar set for 10 pull ups
    • Run back through the covered walkway back to the grassy circle for 20 WWIIs

Repeat for 20 minutes then reverse course for the 1 mile back.

5MOM included LBCs, heels to heaven, freddy mercuries, flutter kicks, and american hammers.

Digits, salutations and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

It’s been a long time since YHC has completed an old glory so while YHC was in the car yesterday this popped into mind. No real rectangular options on campus so improvisation was required. All in all it worked well. Kudos to Handshake for leading the way with 4 complete circuits.

Great way to start the day gentlemen. High intensity indeed with the slight elevation changes and the pull-ups mixed in.

    Announcements

    • HDHH next Wednesday. Meet at Kuba Dos for some hills then 2nd F.

Big data only counted 4 today at Hoedown. Where was everyone else?

  • A Old Glory Tuesday

8 Davillians who mostly feel asleep before the end of the UVA game, came out unaware this was a Old Glory day.

YHC was inspired by Gumbo Pre-Blast and decided “The North” would mirror SOJ today.

This is how it went down

Slaughter Start – To give Congrats to UVA and The Carpenter alma mater, 8 Burpee OYO (for the 8 point win)

    THANG

YHC grab the SF and yelled “Let’s Mosey”. At this time the PAX wasn’t aware it would be OG today. Some thought this would be another Murph but Opus was able to guess it

The first mile took the PAX in front of the schools, up to the gravel track for a lap then behind the MS (where Yard Sale was able to find us) and finish unto the bus loop.

YHC explain OG and the reason why it was choice today. Since we had a vet with us today (Bulkhead), the PAX used him as motivation

Timer was set for 20 minutes and OG was completed around the bus loop (about 1/4 mile lap) with 20 merkins at the SF, 20 Squats at corner 2, 10 Burpees at corner 3, and 20 WWII sit ups at corner 4.

With about two minutes left, the PAX headed back to pick up the six and the whole PAX finished with 10 Burpees.

The SF was grab and the PAX ran the loop back around for another mile making sure to double back from the six

1 MOM – Heels to Heaven IC

Numberrama, Namerama, and YHC took us out.

    MOLESKIN

    • T-Claps to Hustler for showing up for his 3rd post in 4 days!
    • The PAX showed what it really means to “Leave No Man Behind, Leave No Man Where You Found Him” today. They stayed together and made sure the check the six.
    • Chatter seemed to center around spring break

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • An Old Glory for Big Mac (and others)

11 gloom warriors posted despite the late night of basketball (congrats Hoos fans!) even knowing that an Old Glory was in store…or at least most of them knew.

The flag was planted at 0520 and grabbed at 0528. A quick explanation of the Old Glory for the first-timers and a quick mention of the reason this OG was put on the books – to honor Doozy’s friend John “Big Mac” who we recently lost and other fallen vets. With that motivation, it was sure to be a great effort in the gloom and that it was…and we were off.

1 mile mosey to and around both fields. Plant the flag in the front corner of the first field and plank for the six. Timer set for 20 minutes and exercises confirmed (20 merkins in corner 1, 20 jump squats in corner 2, 10 burpees in corner 3 and 20 WWIIs in corner 4). Complete as many laps/corners as you can in 20 minutes….GO!

No surprise, Rosie took the lead and didn’t look back. Doozy and Tobit pushed him though. YHC saw a lot of Posh and Ollivander and a few others in the second wave. Way to push everyone!

Time was called – reconvene at the Flag for 2 laps battalion style (today’s indigenous people run) with Old Glory always leading the way. Doozy and Tobit pushed the pace a few times, but everyone kept up.

Back to the Flag for 3 Minutes of Mary including 25 American Hammers IC and 20 APDs (suitable for Big Mac according to Doozy) IC.

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Prayers up for Big Mac’s family as they continue to work through the grieving process.
    • Prayers up for other fallen vets, law enforcement, first responders and other civil servants as well who have served this country.
    • Continued prayers for Flatline’s M’s grandmother.
    • VQ ALERT – tomorrow at SOT – Doozy has the Q.

    NMS:

Great morning for an Old Glory with a little extra meaning today. I know it helped me push just a little harder and complete those last 10 burpees just before the horn blew.

Great to see Scrooge back out in the Gloom after his first post last Thursday. Hope you enjoyed the OG. Kotters to Sin Bin – hope to see you more as the warm weather returns.

    Great work men!
