  • Birthday Boy Beatdown

A triple B workout was in order this Saturday at DaPile so here is what went down:

    COP

YHC has some music, jump rope, bands, kettle bats (10#) and pickle ball paddles and balls…what is in store for this morning? Well we mosey to the tennic courts and Opus helped with thurning the lights on. While they were warming up here is the warm up: 10 4ct SSH, 10 DQ, 10 helicopters, 10 figure 4 Indiana leg lifts left leg, repeat with right leg, 20 LBCs and 10 American Hammers.

    THANG

YHC sets up 5 stations and 1 person on each side of net with the Pickle ball paddles and ball. The pickle ball players are the timer with hitting 5 hits in a row over the net and keep going. The highest was 52 hits over the net with YHC and Mustang(almost 59). The other 5 stations were – Station 1 – Dealers choice merkins (Drydocks, Hand release, Ranger, diamond, etc.), Station 2- Dealers choice abs (flutter kicks, LBCs, Freddie Mercuries, etc…), Station 3 bands – Dealers choice arms, Station 4 Jump Rope and station 5 dealers choice Kettle Bats (squats-swings, halos, arm lifts, etc.

We rotated stations for 45 minutes then mosey back to flag for numberama, namerama.

  • Pickleballers of the Gloom

8 mighty pickeballers of the gloom (and one late-arriving FNG) gathered in perfect conditions for a bootcamp + pickleball beatdown. Everyone but Warby and I was operating on “lounge-time” and joined us at 5:32 after the beatdown had commenced. Here’s what happened:

    COP: stretch it out

Four Corners: 10 merkins, 10 merkins + 20 Squats, 10 merkins + 20 Squats + 30 LBCs, 10 merkins + 20 Squats + 30 LBCs + 40 Mountain Climbers 2x. Run back through the corners, downwarn escalator from the top. BONUS corner at the end: 10 burpees

Dora: 50 Hand release merkins, 100 WW2s, 150 SSHs. Partner run cross court and back.

Pickleball: as the clock hit 6am the sky brightened with the sun, so we took to the courts. 50 minutes of play! FNG showed up at 6:20am so we folded him in. Welcome El Maestro!

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

NMS: Gorgeous temps for such a fun morning, great to have such a good turnout. As the sun rises later, PB gets harder to fit in in the early mornings — so let’s make the most of it!!

  • Pickleball Singles Championship

    Pickleball Singles Championship

2 fleet-of-foot denizens of the Pickle Ball kingdom met on the courts of battle for the Inaugural F3RVA Singles Pickle Ball Championship. Conditions were sunny and 70. According to the lady of the night and her escort, the following back-and-forth action might have happened.

    COP:

Lap around the courts. Various stretches and exercises. Pre-game workout was intense with Applesauce setting the F3RVA record with 1,110 merkins (before 5:45 a.m.). He also Invented 2 new AI models and cured one strain of the common cold (but, only one). Vaccines were banned from this tournament, as was flouride and several books that few have read anyway. But, in this world of manufactured fear mongering, the players remained steadfast in their focus on sports science – only HGH, creatine, and good ole Ben-Gay were allowed. Shoes were required – sorry, Bodos.

Indeed, this was pickleball at its most raw.

Main Event – The Championship (Singles).

Some time later this summer there is a double’s tournament (which is on the Summer Tour). Today, the two survivors of the fortnight-long round robin singles tournament fought it out. Back-and-forth, back-and-forth, back (ok, out!)…

    Highlights:

Applesauce twice pulled off the unintentional double-tap (permitted in PB),
Several balls that were “out” were called “in,” as a courtesy (thank you, Oyster),
The stupid rule requiring that every ball which is out be actually called “out” was suspended for being dumb, stupid, and a poopy-face rule, and,
Lobs to the Moon and Back were used extensively (and, candidly, quite effectively).

In a three set nail biter, UpChuck narrowly defeated F3 newcomer and veteran Pickle Ball player Applesauce in a  mega cage match for the ages. This is Pickle Ball scoring, so it’s odd. 11-5-2, 11-7-1, 11-4-2 (17-12). The math works, and if it doesn’t, check Truth Social and ask yourself whether anything on the Inter-webs is really a lie if you want it to be true. Say it enough, and it becomes true.

Also, Applesauce signed his first NIL deal to promote paddles for New England Asset Management company (NEAM). Incredible. Don’t believe me? Check out his paddle next week.

There were already too many numbers for today, so all of the rest we did silently and shared good will and brotherhood on the way out.

Next year, Applesauce. But, for now, age won out over youth.

  • Early Morning Pickleball: Double Trouble for Oyster!

Early Morning Pickleball: Double Trouble for Oyster!

It was an early start for a group of five pickleball enthusiasts today, who showed up bright and early, paddles in hand, ready to hit the courts. And while everyone had some great rallies, it seems Oyster had a particularly challenging morning!

The dynamic duo of Hitchhiker and Upchuck were clearly on fire, as they managed to defeat Oyster not once, but twice in quick succession. Ouch! While we don’t have all the details of the matches, it sounds like Hitchhiker and Upchuck were a formidable force, leaving Oyster and Faceplant to perhaps strategize for their revenge in the next session.

It just goes to show, you never know what the morning pickleball games will bring! Sometimes you’re the hammer, and sometimes… well, sometimes you’re Oyster.

  • We run these courts!

4 of the best guys around!! Ready to smack those balls. Let’s go!!!

Warmarama: Put your paddle in the hole and wait your turn.

    The Thang:
    Greatness!

Moleskin: When YHC says “We run these courts”, what I mean is when it’s our turn you run to the next available court. Bodo’s and I were a bit disappointed that no one knew what happened here at Forest Hill Park on Saturday and that they were getting ready to play with The Champs Chimps. Great to see Honeydo and Hardywood putting in the work for the 2025 Roger Roger F3 RVA Pickleball Tournament. Let’s Go!!!

  • You Don’t Need to See the Ball

Seven strode onto the hard courts of south Richmond for the latest presentation of Batteau, Pickleball Edition. Conditions court side remained 70 and sunny. According to the neighbors calling 911 with reports of noise violations, the following might have happened.

Quick disclaimer. But, not THAT disclaimer. The other disclaimer – the one about “watch out for the ball catcher obstructions between courts.

Mosey around the courts while waiting for the sun to arrive.

Lap 1: jog around courts. Mutually assist in avoiding obstructions.

Lap 2: parking space tracers, sideways slides, Bernie Sanders, etc. YHC completely forgets Disclaimer and destroys one of the barriers. Cue the laugh track and lessons from the chapter of Freed to Lead on Clysdale’s Physics.

Circle up. Quick Disclaimer, so quick the Pax might have missed it.

    COP:

    1,000,000 SSHs
    Dead Man Hang
    Fudd’s Wife
Right leg high, left leg high, various legs and arms high.
    Wilson’s Wife
    Pigeon right / left

Sufficient light present for white balls. Let’s go!

    Round 1:

Court 1: NTB / Orange Crush vs. Whitesnake / YHC

Court 2: Sable, Tryhard, Hitchhiker round robin.

    Round 2:

Court 1: Sable / Tryhard vs. Whitesnake / NTB (YHC thinks these were the pairings)

Court 2: Hitchhiker / Orange Crush vs. YHC

Time called at 06:15, at the end of the Hitch/OC vs. YHC match, or exactly when Tryhard dropped the hammer of a slam on Whitesnake & Co. Tryhard might have been in The Kitchen, but VAR did not overrule the point.

Numbers, names, and NTB took us out.

  • We run these courts!

The three amigos put in some extra work this morning, right after Morning Wood and Rock & Roll. We headed to the courts to challenge Ethel and Frank in our off-the-books Pickleball training session!

Oyster / Paul (78 yrs old) (W) vs Nancy Lopez / Hardywood (L)
Notes: Paul asked multiple times if these guys have played before…

Oyster / Hardywood (W) vs Nancy Lopez / Kim (L)
Notes: It happened so fast, I forgot what happened.

Oyster / Hardywood (L) vs Nancy Lopez / Val (W)
Notes: Nancy/Val strategy was “when in doubt call the ball out”…. it worked. jk jk, Well done! Nancy was unstoppable this round.

    Oyster / Hardywood (W) vs Ash / Kim (L)
Notes: Hardywood was locked in, played the kitchen, deadly serve, drove it home. They never had a chance.

NMS: If you don’t have a partner yet for the PB Tournament you better grab Nancy Lopez or Hardywood they have been working on their game and it shows!!
