  • November Breathing Challenge

    November Breathing Challenge

All pax and family members are invited to participate in a monthly breathing exercise challenge for November.  Please note that this is NOT to take the place of our traditional November merkin challenge, rather to complement it.  Directions and video tutorials are on the spreadsheet.

YHC is using this as a way to dive in to meditation and breathing exercises, so if there are knowledgeable pax out there, please share your tips and strategies.

  • PRE-Blast: Breaking Bread 8/27 – Help Needed

    PRE-Blast: Breaking Bread 8/27 – Help Needed

Gents, I have the Q for the upcoming Breaking Bread 2nd/3rd F opportunity on Sunday, August 27 from 5:15 until about 7:30 p.m. at The Daily Planet (180 East Belt Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23234).  We will be preparing and serving dinner to patients recovering from illness or injury or surgery in the Medical Respite Program.

I’m looking for 3-4 volunteers to attend with me and help out.  Let me know if you plan to bring your 2.0.  They recommend that any 2.0s be at least 10 years old and they ask that we not bring more than 10 people total.

I will plan the menu and take care of the main protein and would be looking for folks to chip in with bread, salad, dessert, drinks (lemonade or ice tea are the two options the program has given us).

We will serve the residents, eat with them and then join them for an activity (Bingo or something like that) until 7:30.

Please respond in the comment or contact me – 804-687-0120 or mgoldman@hunton.com if you are able to help out.

    Thanks!

    Preblast – GhostFlag in DaVille

The Ghost Flag will be at The Creek on Friday to send Abacus out in style!! Come get it boys!!

  • Ghost Flag

The idea of the Ghost Flag is to encourage PAX to travel outside their normal circle of AOs to meet, interact and generally get some 2nd F with PAX from other areas.  This is not a challenge to see who can keep the flag the longest, the goal is to have it passed around to all areas and AOs.  Areas outside of Richmond are welcome to join,  Hampton Roads has already expressed interest in stealing the flag and I expect Charlottesville might have a run at it too.  Below are a few ideas on the general rules of the Ghost Flag, these are general and should be enforced in accordance with advancement of the 2nd F.

    • The Ghost Flag should appear at least once every 2-3 weeks but can be more frequent.  It can appear at any AO of the GF holders choice.
    • The AO at which the GF will appear should be announced 2 days before it posts – Twitter, Facebook, and/or Backblast
    • In order to take the GF a group with a minimum of 5 PAX must show up at the AO on GF day.  All 5 PAX have to be outside their normal AO area but can be a mix of different areas.  ie 2 SOJ, 3 West End organize to go to DaVille
    • If more than 1 group posts with 5 PAX at a GF AO, the group with the most PAX at the AO takes the GF.  If there is a tie the Q gets to choose where the GF goes.  Could be to the group that has been the longest without the GF, a contest of the Qs choice to decide the winner or the group with the best mumblechatter.
    • The Ghost Flag can also make an unannounced appearance at an AO.  If it does, the holder of the Ghost Flag must bring at least 3 PAX and can commandeer the Q (non-VQ dates and commandeering a Swirly Q at your own risk).  If the Q is commandeered the Ghost Flag is passed to the original Q.
    • The GF may also hold contests, such as a Beast Relay, at various AOs and the winner will take the flag.

Thanks to Lab Rat and Honeymoon for the idea, Lab Rat, Circle K and Hardywood for the creation of the flag, and various Emissaries for input on the above rules.

If you have any questions/comments/complaints about the rules, my office hours are the same as TYAs but at various locations throughout the area.  I’ll be happy to help at that time.

Any and all Ghost Flag disputes will be arbitrated by the Ghost Flag’s attorney, Gumbo.

Let’s have some fun with this!  One more suggestion, bring your mumblechatter ‘A’ game.

  • PREBLAST AO and Time change for #Punisher Memorial Day only

While contemplating Monday morning workout plans over a plate of smothered and covered, YHC, HoneyDo, and Hardywood came up with the brilliant plan of moving the Monday morning workout to 7 a.m. at Tredegar Parking lot.  This is the parking lot at the footbridge to Belle Isle.

This will be a hot-potato style Q that will be kept between the ditches by Lab Rat and Honey Do.

Also, it will be Memorial Day, so if you have a shovelflag, bring it!

Questions can be directed at Lab Rat.

Complaints can be directed at HoneyDo.

  • F3/LEAP Launch Preblast: Building the Blocks in Old Dominion

This past week, Tim “OBT” Whitmire has been in the capital of the Old Dominion actively laying the groundwork for the LEAP of F3Nation into what will now be F3/Richmond. We have men ready to lead, and now is the time to plant the Shovel Flag and build a great new AO in the Commonwealth.

There’s good reason why the men of F3 Nation are passionate about bringing this model of Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith to Richmond: this can have IMPACT on you and the people around you. Having fun and going hard with other men of like mind is what will take place at these workouts — a lot of life happens before the sun comes out. We’ll plant the Shovel Flag as deep we can this Saturday and beyond at Pouncey Tract Park in Short Pump. We’ll gather for the Inaugural Workout at 0650 and launch promptly at 0700 (don’t be late!). Steve “Blue” Hitzemann has the lead (called the Q) and will have two wingmen, The Mighty Lance and Nancy Drew, there to assist. Coffeteria will follow at The Daily Grind.

This is a great chance to say you were there for the grass roots start of something big. Even if the time/location is not ideal, come out of your way to give this a shot — it’s only going to get bigger from here. In fact, there is already significant #mumblechatter about new F3/Richmond workouts being launched in short order in the West End and Midlothian.

The workout style for tomorrow will be a challenging, F3-style bootcamp. Nothing good is easy, and this is no different. Our style of workouts is a living, breathing retort to most of what you’ve experienced with a gym membership or a personal trainer with a clipboard. Don’t worry about your fitness level, as everyone is welcome, and we promise that the workout is structured to keep everyone together.

Where: Pouncey Tract Park, Short Pump (Just North of Short Pump Middle School on Pouncey Trail Road).

When: Saturdays, starting 9/20. Meet at 0650. Workout starts promptly at 0700 until 0800. Coffeteria to follow.

Going forward, we’ll continue meeting every Saturday at 0700 at Pouncey. What happens beyond that — weekday workouts, other sites in other neighborhoods or in West End, Downtown or Midlothian, etc. — will be up to the men of F3/Richmond, under F3’s peer leadership model. E-mail Richmond@f3nation.com for more info and follow @F3Richmond on Twitter.

We’ll gather in the parking lot at the park. 0650 meet, 0700 launch. See you in the gloom. Aye!
