  • Ramp Build with F3RVA

    Ramp Build with F3RVA

F3 brothers we have an opportunity to work with Project Homes to install ramps for handicapped people in our communities. This is Richmond based and we are helping our less fortunate neighbors that need a ramp to navigate from their house to the driveway or sidewalk. These folks do not have the means to have a ramp professionally installed. Project Homes with the help of volunteers, corporate and private donations are able to procure the raw materials and build ramp kits for future ramp builds. Staff volunteers and volunteers outside the Project Home group will meet at the ramp build site at 8:30 am and assemble the kits to build a ramp by 12 noon. They typically need 6 volunteers to work alongside the install teams to install the ramp kits. I have personally worked on 3 ramp installs and it is very organized and you will work with their assistance. You just need to be dressed for the weather and show up. They have all of the tools, fasteners and safety equipment that you will need to build the ramp.

Please see link below for more information about this volunteer program

    https://www.projecthomes.org/

If after reviewing what the ramp build is all about and you are interested we have 4 dates for ramp installs: January 18, 2022, January 27, 2022, February 10, 2022 and February 24,2022.

The sign up sheets are in the 2022Ramp Build Tab in the F3Richmond Monthly Challenges Google sheet docs file.

This is a great event and please contact me if you have further questions.

  • Help Us Fill Our Sacks!

This Friday evening we are launching a ruck out of the Hoedown AO at 8pm.  This event is open to anyone interested in a brisk, weighted 90-minute hike through the surrounding neighborhoods.

In the spirit of the holidays, we want to provide a positive impact in our local communities by collecting canned items for the food bank.  The Pax will leave the AO with empty rucks and visit F3 houses in the Tuckahoe nano-region to pick up any canned items that you wish to donate.

If you are within a three-mile range of Hoedown and want to be on our route, let YHC know via Slack by 6 pm Friday and we will swing by.  If you live outside of the three-mile range and wish to contribute, drop your canned items off with with Lockjaw or Honey Do at a convenient AO.

We appreciate your support and looks forward to seeing you Friday night, either rucking or on route!

  • Turkey Routes

This Tuesday at Spider Run we will be running a 10k. The link to the route is below and I’ll also describe it for individuals that have not run this route previously. The trails are slightly modified from the official route but everything else is the same. Headlamps strongly recommended.

It’s 6.2 miles with plenty of elevation. Ideally, we will all be finishing at the same time, right around 615. If you think you need an hour and 15 to finish a 10k, play your departure for around 5am. I’ll be there just before 5am to assist with any questions.

Feel free to ping me for any questions.

    spider run route

Section 1 – Looping Around Towana

This section starts by heading back towards the lake, taking a right, and then up behind the football stadium before exiting campus by taking a right on Campus. Continue up Campus until you hit Roselawn and then make a U-Turn to head back down Towana. When you get to the bottom, take a left and head up Roselawn. First right onto Ridgeway then back to the Commons.

Section 2 – Trails Through Campus

Once you pass the start, take a left at the commons and head across the lake, veering right onto the path around the lake. After you pass the cafeteria, take your first left up the path. At the top, take an immediate right on the path and head behind the Greek Theatre. Once you pass behind the Greek Theatre you will see tennis courts ahead of you. Take a hard right down the well lit path back to the lake. Don’t cross the bridge. Take a left, watching your step on the gravel and take the path over to College. Right on College.

    Section 3 – Westham

This part is pretty easy (directions wise). Once on College take a left on Lakewood. Lakewood all the way to Westham. Left on Westham. Left on Club Vista (last road before River). Left on College and an immediate right on Westhampton Way.

Section 4 – The Westhampton Campus

Continue on Westhampton, straight across the first intersection onto Keller. Right on Westhampton Way then right on UR drive. First right onto Crenshaw. This next part is in my mind arbitrary but nevertheless part of the route. Go up Crenshaw until you get to the Modlin Center parking lot. It’s essentially at the top of the hill. Then turn around and come back to a left on UR drive.

Section 5 – The Big Finish

Continue on UR drive like you are heading back to the starting point. Except, you have to finish with the big loop. Up Gateway to the top, left to head back behind the football field and back down to the lake. Long downhill finish back to the parking lot.

    The END

I’ll come up with some turn by turn directions that can be printed for those that may be completely confused at this point.

UPDATE: Turn by Turn Directions available here!

If 6.2 is too much there are two options for you. One is to eliminated the Roselawn/Ridgeway loop and just return back to the start via the path at the bottom of Towana. The second is to eliminate the Crenshaw out and back and just head back to the finish. The final is to cut off the hill loop at the end but I wouldn’t recommend that as it is a fantastic finish.

Complaints will be taken from 9:00 – 9:01am on Tuesday. Yes, this is after the run.

This should be fun. See everyone on Tuesday!

  • Stache Bros vs. the World

    Stache Bros vs. the World

Gents, it has become tradition at the annual inaugural F3 RVA retreat to have a friendly little Cornhole competition. Somehow YHC has twice snatched defeat from the jaws of victory along with everyone else not sporting a fuzzy caterpillar. Find a partner and start training, this year the Stacheholes go down. The rules are simple, throw the bag into the hole. Tournament is double elimination and there’s a mighty fine prize on the line. Highly recommended that you and your partner represent different nanoregions. Retreat is September 25th, tournament will start mid-afternoon. Sign up here:

With Gumbo’s blessing the Home Run Derby goes on. This year with a little West End twist. We’ll meet 0530, Tuesday July 27th at Tuckahoe Little League. Park in the lot in front of Rico’s Mexican Grill at the corner of Ridgefield and John Rolfe. Workout will be simple, slow-pitch softball style, hit a homer and pass out punishment, hit anything else the entire PAX is punished. Burpees are the standard punishment. This workout will replace Heartbreak Ridge for the week. Do not go to Quioccasin Middle. Hope to see you there. Bring your gloves, hats and big league chew and be a kid again.

  • Gauging Interest for New Southside AO

Hello Brothers, if you know of anyone who lives on the far southside or southwest side of town, YHC is gauging interest on starting an AO at Rockwood Park : 3401 Courthouse Rd, Richmond, VA 23236 . This location could draw out some people from Chester and Chesterfield. Wednesdays at 5:30 am would tentatively be the day/time for meeting there but that’s definitely open to discussion based on the needs and interest of other PAX. Feel free to share this info on the Town Hall and pass on YHC’s contact info : Florence aka Nate Levine, phone # 941-258-5594

  • Pre Blast: Q School Coming

    Pre Blast: Q School Coming

    This is a pre-announcement.

With all of us excited about F3 and an on-going push to headlock new guys and pull other guys back from the Fart Sack, F3RVA will be hosting a Q-School later this year. This is an invitation to each PAX member to provide input on what they suggest we cover.

Recall that one of F3’s five core principles is a two-part statement: workouts are led by a rotating Q who participates in the workouts. Rotating Q. Participates in the workouts.

Some of the following may (or may not) be topics and / or instructors:

    1. “Counting to Three or Four,” by Mr. Holland (aka, F3RVA’s Resident Choral Instructor)
    2. “Appropriate Use of the Single Arm Circle,” by Hardywood
    3. “I Have a Question,” by Saab
    4. “Pills: Red, Green, Blue and Q,” by EF Hutton
    5. “Touch a Tree: Why It’s Worth Doing Every Q,” by YHC

Q-School is a fantastic opportunity for guys who are newer to F3RVA or PAX looking to sharpen their Qing skills to hear about the Q from guys who have years of experience. This will cover everything from having access to the Q sheet (on Google Docs!) to techniques for managing the workout. And, remember, there are many types of Q’s. Beat downs can be different from regular runs which can be different from Sunday Funday or Dirt Church. One size does not fit all.

More details to follow. In the meantime, pass the word. And, for those who have specific ideas, specific topics, or a particular experience you would like to see covered or shared, feel free to send them this way.

    SYITG!

ALL PAX are invited to an open discussion about our Region, and how we can pull together post-Pandemic to support and refresh what makes F3RVA unique and effective.
