  • Amateur Astronomers

Moonlit and unseasonably warm, this group of four embarked on this week’s edition of Punisher.

Short mosey to the from for COP. Another short mosey to the side of the school for Jack Webb. 1:4:8 ratio of merkins, air presses, and arm circles with reps of 1-10.

Off to the bus loop for a set os 11s – Rocky Balboa on one side, lunge to the other for 4-count American Hammers, and lunge back.

Back to the soccer field for Dora in the soft dirt. Partner 1 runs the perimeter of the field. Partner 2 performs 100 dips, 200 Carolina Dry-docks, and 300 2-count flutter kicks.

Off to the other side of the school and assume a spot on the wall in people’s chair while the Pax works down the line each completing 30 donkey kicks. 20 decline merkins on you own then BTTW for a line of 10 chicken peckers.

Chum Bucket concluded with some yoga and then took us out.

Announcements: The next Punisher happy hour will be late February.

  • Slower than semaphore

Five posted for the most recent Punisher. Breeze shooting in the parking lot followed by prompt 6 PM start. Mosey around the parking circle to the grass on the western edge of the school for COP with SSHs, IWs, DQs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Shoulder Taps, Suzanne Somers(es), Freddie Mercur(ies), and Arm Circles.

Follow with Super 21 with Merkins and Reverse Crunches. One of each then mosey about 25 yards to the school driveway and 25 yards back. Two reps of each then a mosey, and so on, up to 21. Break the action with 21 reps of other exercises after 5, 10, and 15 reps of the other. Plank and Al Gore at different times collecting the six.

Mosey back around the school to the concrete crescent in front of the school for a few rounds of Dips and Side Lunges with Six Inch Holds awaiting the six.

Few minutes of stretching and mosey back to the cars. Good seeing Splinter and Pigskin at Punisher and welcome back for week number two Half Nelson. You are OK, too, Forty Whacks.

  • Frozen Triangle Part Duex

A total of 46 guys, including an FNG (big respect) showed up today for the first RVA CSAUP event in quite a while.

An eager 45 (including 3 ruckers) gathered before 0600 in the dark gloom of Dogpile ready to roll. The temperature lived up the CSAUP name, it was chilly, but the adrenaline was flowing. 0600 on YHC’s watch, so the ruckers hit the road and the rest of us grabbed the shovel flags and moseyed to the COP circle for disclaimer (you v you and pay attention to your body) and COP, including:

    • SSHs
    • DQs
    • Helicopters
    • Deadman Hangs
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Alternating Shoulder Taps
    • Tempo Merkins
    • Freddie Mercuries

Head to the Amphitheatre and pass the baton to Rosie for the THANG:

Ladder – 5 incline merkins on each step going up; 5 dips on each step going down; bunny-hop/box-jump back up to the top.

Circle up for numbers and names and then grab the shovel flags and runners take off for Punisher. Flags were flying. We were getting some honks, and the air was brisk. Many guys circled back to pick up the SIX. I think Gypsy did it 5 times and ran an extra 3 miles.

    PUNISHER

33 of the 43 bootcampers made the run to Punisher for bootcamp #2. OC and CB got the provisions set up and guys fueled up. Then CB set up the audio and lead a Tabata ground and pound for that included merkins (OUCH), DQs, Arm Circles, Squats, LBCs and other

Circle up for numbers and names and then grab the shovel flags and runners headed for Mary. Again, bro-code was in effect.

    45MOM

31 of the 33 made it from Punisher to Mary, and we picked up Handshake for the last bootcamp and last leg of the Triangle. There was no catching your breathe or fueling up because UpChuck was ready to roll. Thankfully, UpChuck started us off with SSHs and then added some Broga (which really pleased Last Call). Then he dropped the hammer:

The THANG: Twisted Dora – Line up across the blacktop and partner up. Exercises were 100 Carolina Dry Docks, 200 Squats (either jump or touch 5 fingers to the ground), and 300 SSHs. Runner – bernies across the blacktop to the fence and runs back. Oh, and the TWIST – every time the runner returns, partners do 5 Boo-yah Merkins…KILLER.

Mosey back to the starting point for numbers and names before taking off to for Dogpile and to close the Triangle.

The run back to Dogpile was blinding and painful. We gutted it out and everyone made it back to Dogpile where the ruckers were waiting for us and Circle K had the grill going with dogs and sausages.

One last number-rama and namarama, announcements and COT.

We prayed for our F3 brothers – Fudd, Gomer Pyle and Pigskin – heading to Honduras in service.

    Other announcements –

    • Great job F3RVA for donating around 400 shoes for various groups. Well done!
    • Shank has his VQ on Tuesday at Bermuda Triangle
    • Add any others I missed in Slack

Huge shout out to all those who helped bring this CSAUP back. Rosie and I put it out there and the PAX stepped up to Q, drive, get provisions, chip in, and just generally to do whatever is needed and check on the SIX and make sure everyone was accounted for and good to go. LOVE this group for all those reasons.

We can sometimes get lost in our daily/weekly routines or often times we don’t have time to hang out and chat before or after weekly workouts. CSAUPs give us the chance the see new guys, and to deepen our fellowship with other guys. In addition, they give us the opportunity to push through our normal boundaries and test ourselves. We all aced the test today. Well done men!

Get some rest this weekend, enjoy some family and football, rest those legs, and I’ll see you all back out in the gloom soon!

    Who’s planning the next CSAUP?

No more Gumbo for you and It’s all coming up Rosie!

  • Watch out for the PTA

6 strong, including a FNG, came out to a packed parking lot at Punisher. We got out of the way of all the PTA attendees and got after it:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Helicopters, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, LBCs

Mosey to side of school: Alternate Bear Crawl & Lunges down to blacktop. Partner up for min Dora: 50 Merkins, 100 V-Ups, 150 Jumpsquats. Mosey over to playground for 4 sets of Merkin-Ups and WWIIs. Head over to benches: 4 sets of 30 Dips and 10 Deep-slow squats.

Partner up again: 3 rounds of 20 PLTs then some B2W and Chicken Peckers. Back to the front of the school for a Triple Check of HRMs, Reverse Crunch, & run the loop. 1 min of Mary and finish back at the flag.

NMS: FNG Full Nelson posted on recommendation of a friend. The double-respect FNG put in solid work and will be back. EF Hutton joined YHC on a Monday double dip after Flo’s solid VQ. Whitesnake thinks he’s a Punisher regular now but he needs to Q a few more times before qualifying for regular status. Good to see 40 Whacks back out and he was even nice enough to dress in same outfit as the Q.

  • Folding chairs

Eight posted for the first Punisher of 2023, including a couple of Punisher first-timers. Hellos and fist bumps were followed by a loop around the front parking lot and a circle up in the grass on the western edge of the Holton school property – to be visible for latecomers. Circle time start with disclaimer and included SSHs, Hillbillies, DQs, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, Suzanne Somers(es), APDs, Monkey Humpers, and Arm Circles.

Loop around the Butterfly Garden to high, dry, but dark ground for Deck of Death. As is typical, card value equals number of reps with the Ace at the high end – Diamonds=Box Cutters, Clubs=Slow Squats, Spades=Wide Grip, Hand Release Merkins, and Hearts=Imaginary Jump Ropes. Joker means 10 Burpees. Sequential black or red cards means adding one rep to the indicated card. About 2/3 through, took turns guess the suit of the next card and change the exercise but not the reps.

Relocate to the school wall for Donkey Kick wave – one guy completes a few Donkey Kicks while the others hold People’s Chair. Work down the line and back. Return to the parking lot for COT.

Announcements – Frozen Triangle later in January. YHC took us out.

Welcome Punisher first-timers Handshake and Hitchhiker. Good to see everyone.

  • Late to the Punisher Party

YHC was coming in hot to Punisher and Chum Bucket had started the warmup and YHC took over to finish the COP.

    COP

Chum started SSH and YHC finished for a total of 20 SSH, 10 DQ, 10 Ukrainian Soldiers, 20 LBC’s 10 reverse scorpions, 10 scorpions, 20 merkins.

    THANG

YHC had a headlamp so we could mosey to side of schooland we did a triple check with four stations.

    Triple check 1:

P1 – lunged to tree (about 30 yards) and bernie saunders back as the timer, P2 – Hand release merkins, P3 – Squats, P4 – LBC’s. We rotated through all of the stations for 1 set and performed 2 more sets for a triple check.

Triple check 2 – We moseyed to the back of the school in the play ground. P1 – Ran 2 laps around the bBall courts as the timer. P2- with hands on merry go round in a plank moved to the left and then to the right, alternating after one full rotation. P3 – Dips and P-4 10 pull ups and rest(recovery before running laps). We rotated through all of the stations for 1 set and performed 2 more sets for a triple check.

Mosey back to the front for 2 minutes of stretching and we are done for the evening.

Numberama, Namerama, Chum Bucket took us out in prayer.

    Moleskin

Punisher is a great location for an evening workout, as it was nice to see some veterans here this evening and really enjoyed the banter about anything under the sun. 2022 has been an interesting and challenging year in many ways. One consistent barometer through all of this has been the F3 Brotherhood, the faces may change from time to time; however, the friendships are there and I look forward to an awesome 2023. Be safe this holiday season and I will see you in the gloom soon, Cheers…CB!

  • No, Not Backwards

Four men of accomplishments stood tall at 18:00 hours and answered the call for the latest version of The Punisher. Temperatures remained a steady 70 and sunny. According to the ghost of AP Hill, the following quite likely happened:

Mosey to the northwest southwest field for the COP. Exercises included:

Interpretive dance of UpChuck’s recent 50th birthday/20th anniversary trip to Oklahoma (“Why?”) and Hawaii.
    20 Imperial Walkers (4 count)
    50 SSHs (4 count)
Don Quixotes 10, Abe Vigoda style
Some light yoga to stretch the calves
    15 hand-release merkins
    10 WWIIs
    20 flutter kicks

Mosey over here for a triple check, four-man style

    Man 1: Wheelbarrow walk
Man 2: Partner wheelbarrow carrier (and back-up walker)
    Man 3: Frederick Mercury
    Man 4: Monkey Humpers

    Rotate through three times.

Mosey over here for a Sidewalk Cycle:

This is a one-man, three-exercise cycle. Each man acts as a one-person team. Do the first exercise in your cycle. Man 1 starts with Exercise 1. Man 2 starts with Exercise 2. Man 3…if I still have to tell you…Start in a rectangle on the sidewalk. When you are done with evolution 1, move south on the sidewalk to the next open rectangle and move to the next exercise. Continue to the corner.

    Exercises: Flutter Kicks (4 count x 10), WWIIs x 10, and Hello Dolly x 10 (four count).

Mosey over to the front of the school, stopping for some light stretching along the way.

There’s no name for this exercise.

5 parts, cumulative with a run in between. Audible available to anyone…simply call the audible, and for that round, run only the 10 meter concrete loop, but add 10 boo-yah merkins.

First round: 10 merkins (Fireman Ed suggested we start with exercises, then run), and run the loop.

Second round: 10 merkins and 20 flutter kicks, and run the loop.

Third round: 10 merkins, 20 flutter kicks, 30 incline lunges, and run the loop.

Fourth round: YHC called the audible. 10 boo-yah merkins, 10 regular merkins, 20 flutter kicks, 30 incline lunges, and 40 consecutive, one-second wall sits.

Fifth round: 10 merkins, 20 flutter kicks, 30 incline lunges, 40 consecutive, one-second wall sits, 50 side-straddle hops, and run the loop.

Run BTTVSF, numbers, names, and the PAX took us out with a series of simple, thankful statements.

    Announcements:

Gomer wants to ruck around the track, run around the neighborhood, and have a workout. For some of us, this is also called a weekend. Sometime in May.

My mother is coming tomorrow for the winter.

    NMS:

My mother is coming tomorrow for the weekend. Peace be upon us. And, be grateful for the time we have with our older relatives.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of YHC’s mother-in-law’s passing. If you ever needed a completely biased, total homer in your corner to support you through your worst moments, she was the human equivalent of Old Faithful, a person who would stand by you no matter how dumb you had been. What a treasure. We should all be so fortunate to have a person like that standing behind us.

YHC is also incredibly thankful for the gift of an amazing week with his kids and M. Oklahoma City for the Cowboy Christmas Ball (50th state before turning 50 years old) and then Hawaii for some R&R and to celebrate 20 years of marriage. What a gift.

Hutton is hitting some milestones this week. Well done, my friend.

    UpChuck spits the bit.

  • U-ran-ium

Four posted for a mid-December Punisher, including an FNG. Greetings in the lot then warmup in the grass with several of the usual. Continue north on Hermitage to Claremont Avenue, cross Hermitage, and complete the same at each post heading south on Hermitage.

Round 2 with 2 Merkins, 8 Presses, and 16 Arm Circles – and so on up to 11 rounds. Take breaks for stretching a couple of times during the sequence.
