10 Davillians/Summer Tourists + 15 2.0’s as well as 2 early runner that left early. Came out for Daville’s summer 2.0 friendly workout

According to Phonics’ explanation for the morning (during a future run day), this how it went down

Mosey over to the soccer field

    Spit’s Q

COP (ALL IC) – SSH, Helicopters, Hillbillies, WWII Situps, Merkins, Arm Circles

    Corned Beef’s Q

Field Exercises – Using the lines on the field as stopping points we completed varies exercises including different lunges, karaoke, Bear Crawl/Crawl Bear, and the 2.0’s finished with some sprints while the Dad’s cheered them on!

    Bulkhead’s Q

Ultimate Freebee – Splitting teams up with families standing together (other than Trail Mix Squad of 7). When one team completes a TD the other team runs to the other side and completed 10 SSH’s before play resumed.

Mosey back to the Shovel Flags

Numberrama, Namerama, Announcements, Opus took us out

Pre Workout – Mr. Holland, Opus, and Helix showed up at our normal time for a pre run with Mr Holland & Helix leaving afterwards

    MOLESKIN

WOW! Amazing turn out this morning with 12 of our 15 2.0’s being their first workout! Highlights from workout:

    • Name (Handshake Oldest 2.0) was the MVP of Ultimate Frisbee with 2 TD’s. According Phonics “That boy is a competitor
    • T-Claps to Trail Mix bring all of his 6 2.0’s out this morning
    • Glad to have Bootleg and Handshake along with their 2.0’s join us this morning
    • Thanks to Bulkhead & Corned Beef for helping YHC’s with the workout and providing the drinks, coffee, and donuts for the post workout 2ndF time

SPIT ON THAT WHILE DRAWING 4 FOR AN AMERICAN GIRL!!

  • “Everybody PLANK!”

Veteran 2.0’s dragged their Dad’s from cozy fartsacks for a day in the park. Here’s how the animals got covered in fresh cut grass:

    The THANG:

    COP #1:

    • Oreo pointed South, and the PAX moseyed to a grassy spot to warm up with a few standard IC reps
    • Each 2.0 assisted by adding in some creative ideas, Somersaults being the most odd

    COP #2:

    • Disclaimer was provided each Dad would take a lead with the Potato, and Snuff was first to lay hands gently on the tepid earth fruit
    • Triple Check: LBC’s, Planks, and Run

    COP #3:

    • Snuff called a mosey to the Amphitheater for a Froggy Triple Check
    • P1 – Frog hops x4 steps (timer)
    • P2 – Froggy Humpers
    • P3 – Crunchy Frogs

    COP #4:

    • Potato was tossed to Splinter who organized Dad/2.0 teams for 2-3 rounds of running the Amphitheater loop while partner stayed in the bottom for exercise reps
    • YHC’s recollection of what exactly we did is getting fuzzy at this point since YHC was semi-successfully wrangling the two tiny 2.0’s to participate in some form/fashion

    COP #5:

    • Ascending the Amphitheater steps, each team rotated x5 dips with x3 step-ups on each step to the top
    • Then Splinter led the troop to the grass circle where ANIMALS was called, mostly zoo or aquarium types, and the PAX mimicked their movements across the space repeatedly…getting covered in freshly cut grass

    COP #6:

    • YHC believe’s Handshake took the reigns at this point with a mosey back to the top step of the Amphitheater
    • Descend with alternated WWII & Merkin, x1 rep each step going down
    • YHC vaguely recalls something else being done in the pit before most folks were ready to call it quits

Mosey BTTF for a Brief 3min of Mary by YHC, then circle up for COT:

    • Counterama # 9
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

NMS:  Already exhausted from the Dogpile Q, and with absolutely nothing planned for Puppypile, YHC was eternally grateful to Snuff, Splinter, and Handshake for their masterful potato handling. Their older boys did a phenomenal job leading the way, while YHC’s mini-2.0’s provided the entertainment. Oreo at one point grabbed an invisible clipboard and attempted a Q-coup to command the PAX from stage in what (I’m sure) would have been a brutal beatdown…but of course the young warrior has still much to learn… Pleasure to have the older 2.0’s back in the Gloom after a pandemic hiatus, and hope we’ll get the full complement of RVA’s 2.0’s for the big 9/11 Dopgpile/Puppypile combo. Until then, YHC, Tryhard

  • Death by Flower Pose

4 vets brought their 2.0’s for a Puppypile PAX total of 12 hard chargers. Once the Dogpile COT was done, the minions were mustered and scampered gleefully into the misty morn.

    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

    NMS:

    • Puppypile 2021 has officially kicked off with a bang! What a great PAX today, working extra hard to crush the COP’s. Hammerhead gets the award for speed today, while Oreo got first place in creativity with her Flower Pose burner. The Draper and Chaplin kids crushed the Merkin Merkin Burpee challenge. Extra credit goes to the few baller kids who actually rolled down the grassy hill! The PAX welcomed FNG “Jagger” today, Roger Roger’s firstborn, nicknamed because he named himself some nonsense that sounded like “MitJagr“, and he has the moves like Jagger, so there you go! YHC had a blast leading you guys today – way to work! SYITG, DTH

    NMS:

    • The clock struck 0700 and Oreo was looking up at DTH with her great big eyes on the verge of tears, asking where all the other kids were… Well, YHC was about to sit her down to share the hard truth that a Q never knows who, if any, brothers might post… when Boberry and his boys pulled in the save the day. The Q adjusted the planned routine to bring in a few fun games for a smaller PAX, and YHC looks forward to sharing these genius games at an adult level of pain…especially Merkin Merkin Burpee, which may well be the new Ring of Fire. Anyway, YHC’s son, Solomon, kept up for the first time today and earned the F3 nickname “BANJO” from his older sister Penniella (Oreo)… with absolutely ZERO relevance as to why or how he’s in some way related to a banjo. Oh well, isn’t that how most of our names happen? YHC looks forward to gathering a larger crowd for future PuppyPile’s this season. May well give the Sat AM post-Dogpile version a try for June. SYITG, DTH
  • PuppyPile 5/16 at NoToll

Sunday MAY 16th, 7-8am Bootcamp for our 2.0’s at NoToll. Watermelon social and playground time to follow. SYITG, DTH

  • Did you listen to this song first???

22 (!!!) PAX including 2.0s braved the soggy fields this morning for a kid friendly work out today. Fun was a had and a little exercise along the way. Here is how it happened:

7am hit and we peeled the 2.0s from the playground, moseyed to the basketball court for:

    COP/Warmerama

Short disclaimer and welcome to F3. Three 2.0 FNGs today. Reminded all the 2.0s they have some pretty awesome dads who try to better themselves! 10 reps of the following were completed: Imperial Walkers, Jazzercise, Seal Claps, Cherry Pickers, Crab Cakes, Boat/Canoe, and Dancing Bear.

    THANG #1 (Race Time)

Line up on one end of courts for races from the grass to the fence, including regular, high knees, butt kickers, crab walk, and bear crawl (some kids too this opportunity to pretend to be a real bear!). Mosey to the 1st soccer field for:

THANG #2 (Catch A Daddy If You Can)

Kids and dads line up along the end line, dads get a little be of a head start. Kids have to try and catch dads. If caught dads complete 5 burpees. One hitch, dads have to Bernie Sanders.

    THANG #3 (Kick a Ball)

One PAX kicks the ball, first to reach it calls out an exercise, PAX completes 10 reps, then repeat. 2.0s were relentless for this one, a lot of burpees!

    THANG #4 (Music Time)

Song #1= Old Town Road by Lil Nas X (ride a horse while song plays, go down on all 4s and kick each leg when they say “horse”)

Song #2 = Happy by Pharrell Williams (jumping jacks while song plays and do a merkin everytime they say “happy” [underestimated how many times that is said!]) Mosey back to playground for last round:

    THANG #5 (Playground Circuit)

Form a team with your family, One PAX runs up and down playground equipment while the other(s) complete an exercise of their choosing.

Number-ama, Name-arama. (welcome FNGs: Animal (a drummer), Blaze (a la “Blaze and The Monster Trucks), and Rubble (Paw Patrol fan)!!) No announcements, no prayers (whoops). PAX was ready for snacks at this point so Oreo brought out the Oreos and Snitch and Rubble brought out some snack and drink bags.

    NMM

YHC was more intimidated by this Q than any previous. As such it marked the return of a true Weinke. However it went great and fun seemed to be had by all! Shout out to DTH for keeping it rolling when Rubble had a “code yellow”. Shout out to Honeydo for picking up the six when YHC was trying to lead the work out and keep track of two 2.0s. Ya’ll are awesome! SYITG

  • SOJ Inaugural PuppyPile

An extraordinary THIRTY gloom warriors posted this morning to our SOJ inaugural PuppyPile at NoToll, with a few brave men outnumbered at least 3-1 by a veritable herd of adventure-energized 2.0’s! An entirely intimidated DTH noted perfect conditions – sunny, 70 degrees, 0700 – and off we went!

    • Lots of merkins, squats, burpees, and sit-ups called

    Slip-n-Slide:

    • Hardywood rounded up the gang and had everyone doing Merkins, Squats, or Sit-ups while everyone took at least one turn getting their best move on the slide

    Mosey BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 30
    • Namerama
    • YHC took us out in Prayer

    NMS:

    • Holy moly, and I thought regular F3 workouts were fun! This was AMAZING!!! Such great energy this morning with all the 2.0’s absolutely tearing through the exercises. Many thanks to Seadoo for bringing a speaker (which YHC had forgotten) so we could do the Gutbusters musical number, and of course hats off the Hardywood for bringing that awesome Slip-n-Slide back out for our grand finale today. Also big shout out to the Honeydew Crew who policed up the bricks after COT. Not surprisingly, the watermelon was a huge hit, and YHC is thinking we’ll be seeing more of the watermelonorama for YHC’s summer Q’s to come. And keep tuned – we will be doing this again in August! SYITG!
  • Circle of Life

Twenty Eight Dads and 2.0s posted for a Shark Bait VQ (wind assisted). The last Puppy Pile before school starts, so here’s what we did before the bell rings.

Switch for dads to run to top of stairs while kids do Merkins. Second round. Dads do LBCs while kids run to the top of the stairs. Switch and repeat. Third round. Kids run to the top while dads perform WWIIs. Dads Box Jump up and back.

Stage Dive: Mosey to the bowl. Dad’s and kids line up and one at a time roll down the hill.

BTTF. DK has a survivor pool if you’re interested. F3RVA Retreat is 9/21-9/22. Sign up for a corn hole team by 9/9.

Critical Acclaims: Today was a blast, as always. But it was particularly so for YHC. About a month ago Shark Bait said he wanted to Q a Puppy Pile. With most nine year olds, I wasn’t sure how serious he meant it. I think he did a great job today, and I could not be more proud of his leadership.

F3 serves many purposes, with leadership being at or near the top. Puppy Pile is awesome because it gives us a chance to show our kids how we lead by example, and it also offers them a chance to develop their leadership skills. The kids never fail to amaze me. When we switched partners, we made sure to look each other in the eyes, shake hands, and introduce ourselves. They all did great. It’s the little things.

Today we closed without words, but with inner thoughts. We often look straight ahead in life, or down at the ground, our phones, whatever. Today, by laying down and looking up in silence, I hope we all realized and appreciated greater perspective, literally and metaphorically. Making the time to take it all in is as important to your mental health as F3 workouts are to your physical health.

Have a great day, and walk proud. You’re raising good kids.

  • Puppypile Adventure

11 Warriors and 18 of RVA’s finest 2.0’s (including 5 FNG’s) posted for a cooler than expected Puppypile adventure. With everyone’s Garmin watches hitting 7:05am, we headed off into the unknown. According to eye witness reports, it went something like this:

COP (all x10): SSH, Arm Circles, Don Quixote’s, Helicopters, LBC’s, Merkins, Copperhead Squats, Flutter kicks. 5 Burpees OYO.

Thang 1. On the Carillon field: Bear Crawl to the 25 yd line, Bunny Hop to the 50 yd line, Lunge to the 75 yd line, run to the end, then turn around and Partner Carry all the way back. Props to the Dads who had 2 Kids and carried both on the way back!

Thang 2. Still on the Carillon field we played a game of Sharks and Minnows. Round 1, Kids are Bear Crawling across the field as the Minnows without getting caught by the Dads who are Crab Walking as the Sharks. Round 2 we switched. Lots of fun here!

Thang 3: Tree Touch (3 rounds). Dads do SSH while the Kids run to touch 2 trees and then back. Switch and repeato. That’s round 1. Repeat for round 2, except touching 3 new trees. Repeat for round 3, except touching 4 new trees.

Thang 4: Mosey to the Amphitheater and under the watchful eye of several security guards, Kids run from the bottom to the top of the Amphitheater and back down again while Dads do Step jumps. Switch and repeato. That’s round 1. Do again for another 2 rounds for a total of 3 rounds.

Thang 5: Mosey to the Rusty Cage. Dads and Kids do 5 pull-ups then run to the fire hydrant and do 10 LBC’s / WWII’s. That’s round 1. Do again for another 2 rounds for a total of 3 rounds.

Thang 5: E.F. Hutton takes the Q and we mosey back to the traffic circle. The group did a variety of exercises while each of the PAX took turns running around the traffic circle.

Head back to the flag. Number-a-rama. Name-a-rama. YHC took us out in prayer. Group picture at the end.

NMS. What a great morning! A chance to push our bodies and workout, yes, but more importantly a chance to do that with our kids. As a Dad, I’m always searching for ways to bond with my kids and spend quality time with them. A chance to face obstacles and overcome, together. A chance to challenge our minds and our bodies, together. A chance to practice teamwork and fortitude, together. I’m thankful Puppypile gives us that opportunity.

    In that we welcomed 5 new 2.0 FNG’s: Llama and BB-8 (E.F. Hutton’s 2.0s), Macho Man (Sugar Sock’s 2.0), Creeper (Shakedown’s 2.0), and Preakness (Flange’s 2.0 FNG). Great showing!

Thanks for letting me lead such an amazing group! See ya in the gloom.
