  • Finally an amateur bike ride

Seven posted at Atlee High School on this perfect Tuesday morning for a run and ride that included a Tuckahoe traveler and a new guy. This is what we did:

    The Routes:

Run: Spit and Marco Polo did the farmhouse look for just under 5 miles.

Ride: Corned Beef, Offshore, Circle K, Classified (FNG), and YHC went Atlee to Honey Meadows, to Kings Charter, to Totopotomoy to Milestone and back for just over 9 miles.

COT – Numberarama, Name-O-Rama, Announcements, Corned Beef took us out.

Offshore had planned on doing the Anvil Ride a week ago but with the uncertainty of having over riders, he delayed his travel for a week. Corned Beef was able to get his neighbor, Wes (Classified) to post and with Circle K joining us, it gave us 5 which felt like the amateur bike ride that YHC had been hoping for all summer. For the runners, Spit said the plan was for Marco Polo and him to run together. At 6:15 AM, it appeared on their faces that one of the runners had plenty left and one was done.

As we were riding this morning, we passed runners and walkers in the neighborhoods. It occurred to YHC why the amateur bike ride is so important. We were not concerned with how elite our bikes are or even how we looked on the bike. We were just riding for the pleasure of being out there which was great.

    Announcements:

    • Labor Day Convergence – Dogpile.
    • 1/2 marathon and 10K at Twin Team – Coming soon.
  • Coming to the Nuisance

6 Davillians as a group did a triathlon the F3 way. A pair of bikers went about 10 miles, with both YHC and Phonics contributing to correct and wrong turns along the way. Opus and Marco Polo kept the traditional Anvil Run going with just under 5 miles, and Corned Beef and No Idea both posted to ruck so that Yardsale would not have to ruck by himself. Their loyalty must have created enough good karma to ensure that today no one rucked alone, even if Yardsale succumbed to the fartsack. After some 10 minutes of good-natured chatter, we realized we had not done numbers and names, so we took care of that business. Announcements included early planning stages for an upcoming 2nd F event and the assumption that any AOs in the city are now pickleball AOs. There is also a planned The Carpenter Q upcoming at The Creek Friday. Mark your calendars. Also thoughts and prayers for those who move next to a community pool and suffer through pool noises and those whose open windows next to a lake let moisture into a house. Opus then took us out.

After an impromptu discussion of cycling last week when YHC posted elsewhere, a cycling option was added to the run and ruck options for the summer. We can keep cycling, running, and rucking as long as we have the numbers to do them. Summer tourists are welcome, and if you let us know you are coming in advance we can make sure no one runs/rides/rucks alone. This is the way.
