  • On a Scale of 1-10

Seven of Westmoreland’s finest gathered for what may be the last running meetup for a while. Consensus was no one wants to run on crunchy black ice. Regardless, YHC called a route that was only partially stolen from Marv. That’s what you get when you sit in a car and plan a route before stepping out.

    The Route

    • Meander over to Malvern and right into Windsor Farms
    • Do the back loop around to left on Dover
    • Cut through to Lock Lane
    • Inspect to see if we can sneak past the guard gate
    • Right on Charmian
    • Left on Charmian
    • Right on West Hillcrest
    • Left to Cary then cross to Oak.
    • 4s Oak to Grove then back home.
    • 5s/6s Oak past Grove, past Patterson to a right on Park
    • 5s right on Commonwealth (a little short)
    • 6s right before 195 then back on Grove

Numbers, self-rating, YHC took us out.

    Announcements

    • Pigskin still going to the Bridge tomorrow, see Slack
    • Blank Space VQ at Dogpile tomorrow
    • Frozen Triangle coming up Super Bowl weekend
    • F3 is open to everyone once, then men

There were some crazy bikers heading east on Cary when the 5s crossed Cary into Windsor Farms. I mean, who bikes when it’s that cold, doesn’t stop at stop lights, and has music playing on a bluetooth speaker while riding? Must have been some of those millennials. We put them in their place.

Conversation in COT centered around rating scale of rabbits and how accurate it can be when it’s 0530 and dark.

    Stay warm my friends.

  • Frozen Carillon Triangle’ish

10 total at RAMM/RAMM Gears this morning. 4 6-mile rabbits (well, Faceplant and the Respect Rabbits), 2 5-milers, 2 ruckers and 2 bikers braced for the windchill.

YHC posted routes last night – heading to the Carillon through WF and the 6-milers were supposed to continue around Park to Shirley to Spottswood to BURPEE LAKE, but Faceplant took them around Swan Lake (an acceptable alternative), then back to Arthur Ashe to Grove.

5’s hit the Carillon and then headed up Blanton to Sheppard to Grove.

    All back on Grove.

The Ruckers spent more time in Windsor Farms searching for Marcel Marceau. Still no luck.

The bikers minimized any flesh showing and avoided frostbite – I think.

We counted, announced and prayed. Then dispersed for heat. Thanks for coming out gents!

    No More Gumbo For You!

PS – YHC will be giving the porta-potty at Richmond Little League a positive review on Hitch’s Porta-Dash. 5 stars for right place, right time!

  • Average Respect

7 bipeds of average age hit the streets of Richmond. Ruckers covered a variety of interests and topics as the miles passed by.

    YHC took us out.

  • Faceplant Was Supposed to Do It

Five of us were there. Two walkers, one thought he was solo until two more showed up. Walkers tried to get lost in Windsor Farms, runners did something easy (directions wise).

Faceplant apparently owes Bodos another backblast from somewhere…

Coffeteria at Libbie Market was excellent as usual.

  • A Duel, of sorts

Four runners and two cyclists gathered for today’s Q-less edition of RAMM. After TYA and Marv agreed upon their lunch plans and invited half the PAX (don’t worry, YHC couldn’t make it anyway 🙄), YHC and Marv debated on the best route of the day. Neither were new and the PAX determined that Snake River hadn’t been forged in a while. So off we went for Snake River.

    The Route

    • West on Grove to south on Granite
    • Cross to Kennondale / Tempsford
    • 5s 2 lefts and 1 right
    • 6s 2 lefts and 2 right
    • Back the way we came

Numbers, names, discussion of college football before YHC took us out.

YHC has been getting into crossword puzzles again over the holidays, hence the backblast title.

Great to have a running partner with Offshore as the attempt to keep up with Marv and Sippy only lasted a couple hundred meters.

Always great to start the new year off with a solid run. Let’s get those RAMM numbers back up next week!

  • It was supposed to be raining

4 runners and 4 walkers gathered at MM. It was 60 degrees! It rained right before and right after, but the 45 minutes of the workout were dry.

The workout. The course was the second try at the Windsor Farms cul-de-sac run. 5 milers take the Long, Stockton, Clovelly/Lynton, St. David’s, and Marston out and backs. 6 milers add the Lock Lane cul-de-sac. Both take Queen Charlotte back to Cary and Grove. The walkers did their thing. YHC took us out.

    Moleskin. Random thoughts:

YHC picked the route to check out holiday lights, but the show was underwhelming–perhaps the miserly Windsor farms folks turn them off early. Marv and YHC did note the beach-ball sized ornaments hanging over the road on Lock. They are spread over multiple blocks. It is certainly worth a daytime trip over.

Marv’s $10 weather app is proving to be a good annual value. We reminisced about the early days of RAMM and the major decision to add new routes to our repertoire.

The 5 milers got lost in Windsor Farms. I’m not sure if they found Marcel Marceau.

Bleeder was complaining that he could have biked this morning instead of walking. I guess RAMM Gears doesn’t happen in the rain? Hmm.

  • Do you have one of those for your…

Nine runners and two or three riders, including one with a new pair of battery powered gloves, convened for today’s snow-less edition of RAMM. After a quick route creation from the warmth of YHCs heated seats, and a possible reverse (or regular) Carillon route was almost suggested, we chose for the newly created route. Which in reality was simply retracing of old routes with a goal of maximizing holiday lights.

    The Route

6s go west on Grove to Wisteria, Wisteria to east on Patterson

4s / 5s north on Commonwealth to east on Patterson

    4s turn right on Roseneath

    5s / 6s turn right on Allen

Everyone turn right on Floyd and work their way back to Grove an the VSF

    Announcements

    • See this thing called Slack for details on Swiper’s son’s Eagle Scout project. Small donations accepted. Beware of the tip.
    • Prayers for those in our PAX that are dealing with various health and life issues, especially in this holiday season.

So much for holiday lights. Data centers must be drawing all the power for LED twinkle lights. Lots of dark segments out there today. Still a pleasant route through the fan.

Apparently YHC can’t follow his own directions. Enamored in conversation, we missed the turn at Allen and went all the way to Lombardy. My bad.

For those that haven’t noticed, Bodo’s has moved onto a new pair of shoes with a much darker cause associated with them.

Thanks for letting me volunteer a route with 2 minutes to spare. Glad Sippy caught up to us all.

    Splinter out.

  • Tag in the snow

Quick summary: 6 Pax tried to recreate a magical workout held in the snow almost 10 years ago. It was fun!

The details: Instead of our usual mileage-based RAMM, yesterday we played a bit of sharks and minnows. The 6 PAX were split into two teams of 3:

    Team 1: Marv, Sippy, Faceplant

    Team 2: Splinter, Chippendale, Bodos.

Team #2 was given a head start and told to run in the square bounded by Westmoreland, Patterson, Grove and Malvern. They were also given a flashing white light to wear for easier detection. Team #1 was in pursuit.

Running rules: No 180 degree turns. No alleys. When found, switch roles and repeat.

The final score was 2 catches for each team. Team #1 had the advantage of raw speed. Team #2 excelled in strategy.

Team #1 won the time of possession battle, but Team #2 ultimately was declared the winner due to their surprise snowball attack.

    Moleskin:

The 1.0 version of this workout happened 3/9/16. 9 years is way too long to wait to do something that fun!

  • PBMs….Hitch’s Newest Data Set

Runners, walkers, and bikers hit the roads – all covering distance suitable to their goals. Everyone had a companion to make the miles fly by.

Good Luck to everyone running a race tomorrow. You trained and put in the time! You got this!
