  • Still Running Circles in Windsor

    Happy Valentine’s Day, boys!

The 6ers and one 5 did YHC’s Windsor to Hillcrest route. It wasn’t the same without Bodos taking a wrong turn and then grousing a bit that the directions weren’t “run this straight line to this point then run back.”

The tough part about the run is making that cut through from Dover, over Lock to Pocohontas…to be sure, if you aren’t looking for the two pieces of wood that separate Lock from Pocohontas it’s not easy to find. Once you are on Pocohontas you head to Hillcrest, do a couple of loops around that bad boy then head north to Patterson…east to Commonwealth then back to the flag.

There is some concern that we lost Boberry as he was the only 5 and we 6s, admittedly, didn’t do a good job of keeping an eye on him. Our bad, Boberry…I do hope you made it out of the southside of Cary St ok. In all seriousness, I’ll take the heat on that one, I wasn’t prepared for only one 5 to show up and should’ve done a better job explaining the route.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a special February 14th with their loved ones, whoever they may be.

  • Great morning for a run

A mix of runners, walkers and ruckers convened for this week’s edition of RAMM. YHC posted the routes the day before but reviewed them once more. Then, off we go.

    5s: https://onthegomap.com/s/a9kdl0qg

Conditions were ideal for a good run and mumble chatter.

Announcements – Frozen Triangle tomorrow. See Slack for Details.

    Numbers / Names

YHC took us out with a paraphrase from Luke Chapter 6 a former Rector of my church said at the end of each service: Do good to those who hate you, lend expecting nothing in return, for the measure you give is the measure you will receive.

  • RAMM and BAMM

A nautical 9 showed up to Mary for a moist and chilly morning of running, walking, and burpees. Routes are posted below….

Moleskin: The tomatoes overtook the pavillion, so those completing their burpee challenge were relegated to the gazebo…a structure that had been deemed unnecessary – until today.

Props to those who finished their month of burpees – much respect.

  • Takeover interrupted

Six stallions emerged from the gloom to observe that the Ghost Flag appeared at RAMM today and interrupted a week of SOJ takeovers. In place of what must have been an intricately well planned route making strategic use of Grove Avenue by Oyster the following was provided by YHC:

All distances: West on Grove / Left on Tuckahoe / Cross Cary to Paxton / Follow Paxton around as it becomes Ampthill and loops back to Cary / Cross Cary and follow Stratford Crescent around to Cary / Cross Cary to Hillcrest

4’s – do a loop on Hillcrest and return via Oak Lane to Grove

5’s and 6’s – start down the west side / right turn on Hillcrest, around the bottom of the loop and take the second right up the steep side of Charmian / Follow Charmian as it sharply turns left and take a left on Pocahontas / Return to Hillcrest and finish the loop

5’s – Return via Oak Lane to Grove

6’s – Do another loop around Hillcrest and return via Oak Lane to Grove

    What actually happened:

YHC ran most of the 4 mile route, curtailing to manage injury recovery

2 of the PAX rucked their own route which I understand involved Grove Avenue

1 of the PAX was obligated to make his prescribed offering to the basketball spirits by circumnavigating the Siegel Center pulling in the two remaining PAX members to witness the ritual

It was a great morning to run.

  • Planetary Alignment

When the stars align – or at least the planets – running, rucking, or walking just seems to happen. Routes were called and off we went. There was slight complaint when I mentioned the routes were intentionally a little light in miles. I will make it up to you next time.

    YHC took us out.

  • Speaking in Movie References

Eight Pax members sculpted by classic movie quotes and references embarked on running and rucking. North on Westmoreland, right on Fitzhugh to Broad, and come back on Antrim or Tilden, Mulberry, or Meadow depending on your distance. Grove brings you home.

    YHC took us out.

  • Yesterday’s News

A triumphant twelve eagerly departed on routes of 4,5, and 6. Commonwealth to Monument, west to Willow Lawn, pick up Patterson and head west. Pick up the associated cross street and return on Grove.

    Splinter took us out.

Libbie Market coffee time is always fun, but today was full of laughs and engaging! Talk ranged from a variety of topics, but always entertaining and lively!

  • Crowd Sourcing Movie Recommendations

Six bodies shivering in the light as the Q showed up just in time making it a lucky 7 + 1 K9. Directions were called and all embarked on their routes. Commonwealth to Monument and head east picking up the appropriate turns to come back on Grove.

Announcements: Ask Hitchhiker about his thoughts on family fine dining.

    YHC took us out.

Coffee at Libbie Market on a weekday is special indeed. Today was extra special as we reminesced about classic movies – both for kids and adults. A solid list was compiled.

  • It’s clo-VELL’-ē. Perhaps French?

Twelve of the most loyal fellas east of Parham road gathered in the most well-lit parking lot in the city for today’s edition of RAMM. Route was posted early so there weren’t many questions. In fact, even Faceplant generally knew where he was going.

    The Route

    https://onthegomap.com/s/hg080or6

Everyone go east on Grove then south on Malvern into Windsor Farms. Begin the horseshoe, veering left at the triangle park onto Clovelly for some virgin ground. Touch the bottom then reverse course. 4s turn around at Park, 5s at Broad, 6s all the way to Top Golf and inspect the parking lot there.

Everyone returned on time before numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin

YHC hadn’t Q’d RAMM since the summer so was well overdue. Creativity was lacking yesterday so the good ole topographic map of Richmond was consulted to try to find a strong contrast of red/green while keeping us generally close to the AO. Clovelly was found and thus the route was created using that road as inspiration.

It was virgin ground for YHC. Even if I saw 4 gentlemen exit the depths of Clovelly as I was entering, that’s still new ground for me. Post run mumblechatter was generally positive, with comments on how that road could be combined with other hills over there to make a better route than out and back on Malvern. Regardless, seems like a keeper.

YHC ran solo today but still had great conversation. You’ll have to ask what we discussed.

    Announcements

    • Visit Dogpile tomorrow for special recognition of Hitch. See Slack for details.
    • Breaking bread is covered for 2024 but 2025 dates are open.

    Splinter out.

  • Bodos’ Boot

A formidable 5 showed up to see what areas we would explore outside of Mary’s netherregions. This route was named after Bodos, given it’s shape, proximity to his abode, and his absence. Today was a reverso of stated routes.
