  • Like a frightened turtle…

A mix of 8 gents traversed a refined version of the Carillon route. As to whether it was the normal direction or reverse, that is open for debate.

  • Hoe X

Nine runners and riders assembled near the eye sore of a community garden for this week’s iteration of RAMM. Some more bikers started but didn’t return. Be on the lookout for them out there.

    • Last day of school for some of the high school seniors (My 2.0 and Marv’s 2.0)

    Moleskine

Soupy run this morning. Everyone seemed extremely excited when snake river was called. Good thing everyone is stretching before workouts now.

Enjoy your Friday’s fellas. Seek something to be happy about, it’s likely not too far from you.

  • Legit Chicken Sh!t

Ten traversers-of-the-ballsack, gathered in the waning darkness for today’s RAMM. Gumbo arrived staring at his phone, likely studying the route. Saab appreciated the ball sack route which prompted many jokes on balls. Bone Thugs appropriately stated, “that escalated quickly”.

    The Route

    • South on Commonwealth and around the Windsor Farms loop
    • North on Malvern
    • East on Grove
    • Left on Nansemond (4s), Cleveland (5s), Sheppard (6s)
    • West on Patterson
    • Left on Westmoreland (4s), Bunting (5s), Lex/Albemarle (6s)
    • Back on Grove

    Announcements

    • Pickleball is starting up the first Monday in June at Batteau. Normal time and place.
    • Breaking Bread signups available for this month

    Moleskine

If you want to know what happens when you load chicken shit into your car, check with Chippendale. If you want to save money on garbage disposal, check with Saab. There were competing backblast title candidates related to composting. Tomatos with feathers was a close second.

    Have a great Friday everyone.

  • FTLOBD

14 showed to run, walk, ruck. Route was posted the day prior…glanced at by a few, absorbed by none.

  • Wait, You’re from Rochester too?

An un-claimed Q-sheet brought a handful of guys to the land of Mary Munford and really no direction.

Which brings up this question….do you have direction in your life right now? A vision? A goal? We should all have visions and goals of some sort…for us on this particular Friday morning we needed more direction and it came in this form.

YHC told everyone to head north on Commonwealth and get to Monument…to run 22.5 minutes and to run back to the flag via a south on a street and Grove.

Funny couple exchanges as welcome FNG Ridge (his real name, his F3 name is Body Armor, based on the fact that Ridge went to St. Johns and the dude that is funding Rick Pitino’s team is the same guy who created and sold Body Armor)….anyway, Ridge is introduced to Garbage Plate and immediately says “Are you from Rochester?” And, of course, GP is from Rochester. Small world. I also think there was another Rochester connection in there somewhere, maybe By-Product’s wife’s family(?), can’t really remember.

Beautiful weather and a wonderful trip around the near west end of RVA…not a bad way to start the Friday.

  • One For the Records

One rucker and the rest runners; off we went on our routes. All distances were covered.

  • Always Be Tapering

A hearty crew of 11 showed up on Friday the 11th for a crisp morning trundle around the near west end.

For the record…The Carrillon is finally open (that was news to me) and we got to run up the stairs for the first time since pre-COVID. Better late than never, huh?

Also, for the record…the 4 mile Carrillon run looks like this…

Out on Grove to Arthur Ashe.

Right on Arthur Ashe (south) and that takes you to Idlewood.

Right on Idlewood. Right on McCoy. Take McCoy to Cary St. Left on Cary St.

Cary goes to Malvern. Right on Malvern, left on Grove and go to West Moreland and double back to Commonwealth.

And that’s the 4 mile Carrilon route.

Good to have Frozone at the Q from the great city of Savannah, GA. He and his family were heading up to DC with a stopover here in RVA.

  • it’s all relative

Age is relative, sometimes you’re feeling young and sometimes you’re feeling old, and sometimes you’re old and then TYA shows up and then you’re young again. The PAX was greeted by the local RAMM gears biker gang. The Bloods and Crips have red and blue respectively, while this particular gang had their hi-vis yellow. As the bikes circled ominously the pax stood their ground.

when it came to routes, there was none, no one had picked up the Q, but YHC was feeling inspired and wanted to do the route of our grandfather’s as I believe Marv had put it. So it was out and back on Grove. Some rain, some walked some rain really fast some walked really fast and there was even a lone rucker out there.

Moleskin: YHC enjoyed running for the first part with bootleg, and caught up on all things, travel and mental health related, including an in-depth conversation about coffee and caffeine. On the way back YHC was able to run part of the way with an old familiar face, LugNut. YHC got to catch up on all things car racing related, and learned why younger car racers are better than older car racers, my theory was that an older car racer would be better because they have more experience – but experience also comes with caution, so a younger car racer is more likely to be more daring, and that’s what may win the race.

    announcements:

See OBT for information on a panel he’s moderating and the screening of an inspiring movie.

Go to the bridge, check it out. It’s really worth it. Such an awesome experience.

century classic is coming up the weekend of May 2nd. See EF Hutton if you want to join a team of reigning champions.

  • WAMM

With a ratio of 3 to 1, a nonsensical nine chose to walk:run around Mary’s outer quarter.

With age and injury, running may be less of a thing. Despite that, a route was offered to the few who were willing and able.

    https://onthegomap.com/s/fhk6n1ne

All:  Head West.  Take Seneca to Tuckahoe loop, then Paxton to Ampthill loop….

4’s return on Grove after completing aforementioned…
5’s :  Repeat Seneca/Tuckahoe loop then return on Grove.  Reverso is suggested.
6’s: Also repeat Paxton/Ampthill loop before returning on Grove. Note early cutover before hitting bottom of Paxton

  • Tour de Crabs

Nine Mary nincompoops gathered for a potential duel that was eagerly anticipated. After YHC signed up in a blank cell last night and created a route, Saab also signed up in a blank cell last night and created a route. After some threatening text messages back and forth, it was established that it would be figured out in the AM. Under a haze of disappointment, it turns out there was no duel. Bodos had studied YHCs route and was planning on running that. Saab wanted hills and was planning on running his route. So it was left to YHC, as others were either walking or had no clue what was going on. 0530 arrived and after some studder stepping in each direction, YHC’s route was chosen. Off we went, for a flat, somewhat of a double lollipop kind of route. Turns out Bodos didn’t study it enough.

    The Route

    • East on Grove
    • North on Nansemond
    • West on Patterson
    • North on Spokane (who knows why there is a Spokane in RVA)
    • Jog over to east on Monument
    • 4s turn at Commonwealth, 5s at Hamilton, 6s at Tilden
    • West on Grove

Numbers, names, YHC took us out.

Saab hasn’t yet signed up for 3/21 but promised he would. Someone needs to check their internet connection b/c one of us was wrong last night.

Title was stolen from Saab’s comment that the route apparently passed by each of his youngin’s homes.
