  • 3 big loops

Four posted for the beginning of the Wednesday hill run

    The Thang

3 loops on the extended hillcrest loop.  Just under 5 miles

    NMM

Swirly was back at the Wednesday hill run.  Good to see him back out there today. He was a good boy and took it easy on the hills.  Its hard for a man like Swirly to give anything less than 150%.  But sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.  Hopefully Swirly can someday see that.  Maybe, maybe not.

Jville and Honeydo were back out on the hills and setting the pace today.  Honeydo had to get home quick so left a little bit early.  The Q consulted with corporate to see if someone posted to a workout, but did not stick around for the COT if that counted as a post for Big Data.  Corporate said yes.

  • Track team practice

2 Studs posted for a Wednesday evening run and were met, yet again, by the women’s track teams from VCU and UR.

    The Thang:

45 minutes of hills around hillcrest, random loops and directions

    NMM

Great to have some male companionship out on the run this morning.  Last week was a real burden being by myself and having to take care of both track teams on my own.  Jville’s presence was much appreciated, and he got to personally witness the joy that is hillcrest running.

I think the track teams are like the baseball field on Field of Dreams.  If you do not believe in them, you will not see them.  I kept telling Jville that they were with us, but he could just not see them.  They so much wanted to interact with him, but he could just not see them.

  • Alone…….listless

1 brave F3 soul and the women’s track teams from UR and VCU showed up for a Wednesday evening hill run.  Weather was sunny and 70 and all the track ladies had their racing garb on.  TYA let the ladies lead the way and followed them for a 45 minute jaunt around Hillcrest.

    The Thang:

Three extended loops around hillcrest.  West Hillcrest to Old Orchard to Hillwood up and back, to Chairman, to Pocahontas to Poplar, to Virginia, to East Hillcrest and repeat x3.  Loop is about 1.6 miles with a few hills along the way.

    NMM:

Pictures of the ladies and I can be seen on various websites.  You know where to find them

  • The Jeans Experiment

Two PAX members took advantage of a quick run prior to HDHH.  One more joined wearing denim leggings and accompanied by two of his 2.0s.  Route was fairly simple:

    – Proceed to Broad Street for quick episode of frogger
    – Mosey down Broad to West Club
    – West Club to FitzHugh
    – FitzHugh a ways then turn around and come back

    Moleskin
YHC wasn’t sure anyone was going to take him up on the run before HDHH.  Leave it to Singer to show up strong.  Ronnie was wearing jeans and athletic shoes and decided to join us.  His 2.0s were much better prepared and crushed the run.

Frogger across Broad was “fun”.  There aren’t many running options from The Answer so we made the best of it.

Great to see everyone while it was light outside.

    Splinter out.

  • The hills are alive

The Wednesday afternoon hill run continues.  YHC has been qing the last three weeks and has been  lax in getting the backblast out.

    The Thang:

Wednesday October 19th  and Wednesday October 26th.  4 loops on hillcrest.

Wednesday November 3rd.  2 regular loops and 2 extended loops on hillcrest.

    NMM:

Flew solo on the first Wednesday.  Swirly was a little tense and irritated that day as he was trying to get out of work after finishing his budget process, but did not make it.  YHC took to the hills alone and had an acceptable run.  Even though I don’t usually run alongside swirly, his presence and the presence of others helps keep me motivated and my speed up.  I wasn’t slow, but i was not on par with the pace I had been keeping.

October 26th Swirly made it early and YHC was coming in hot.  I was at a x country track meet watching TSB and headed to the AO right after the meet.  I was pumped up for the run..  Swirly was energetic as well and we cut our laps times down each time around the loop, last loop was in 6:50, a record for me.  Swirly was a bit faster.

Yesterday we decided to extend the loop on two or our rounds.  We went straight past east hillcrest around chairman and back to east hillcrest.  I took the extended loop on laps 2 and 3 and swirly hit it on laps 2 and 4.  Weather yesterday was a little warmer than normal, but a good run was had by all.

Being a numbers guy, I was hopeful that at least one additional pax would show up yesterday so that we would keep our progression of numbers going: 1 the first week, two the second, and 3 (or 4) for the third….Oh well..

  • DaVinci (and Swirly) try to turn their days around

4 stalwarts posted to a Wednesday evening hillrun.  Weather was perfect, high sixties and sunny.

Loops on hillcrest.  Pax choice on how many.

    NMM:

DaVinci had a tough day at school and was a little wound up when he got home.  Dad had the perfect medicine for a 2nd grade boy in need of a way to expend a little energy.  To the wednesday night run it was.  He and his dad were moving right along around the loop.  On one of the downhills, I was watching DaVinci on the downhill and he was taking two steps to my one and easily keeping pace with me.

Swirly didn’t have a difficult second grade day, but is in the middle of budget season at Woodfin.  Budget season means spreadsheets and lots of meeting and sitting at the desk work.  Not a good thing for Swirly. As such, he was a super excited about coming to hillcrest to expend a little energy.  The hill run is the perfect remedy for a little inactivity at the office.

We played a little catch football postwar with DaVinci et all.  Fun times.  Come on out for a run next week.  Hills are just as tough, but weather is a whole lot better.

  • The training continues !

2 strong posted for the Wed evening hill run and here is how it went down…

Hillcrest Loop : 5:30 PM – run the loop – nice and easy pace 4 laps .

YHC and TYA had a great run yesterday afternoon post BRR.. A beautiful evening for a run we set out to tackle Hillcrest .. Both of us felt great – 4 laps was the right amount – not too little not too much.. We are going to keep the Wed evening runs going so come on out after work and enjoy some hills and fellowship. We did not hit TYA’s patio or ET’s for a cold one or two last night but I am sure that we will continue that tradition as well in the near future.. Look forward to seeing members of the pax out there next week and the weeks to come.. BRR 360 days out !

  • Showing of Barclays

10 runners – 13 total guys came out for the Wed afternoon hill run and here is how it went down..

    Hillcrest Loop  – run 4-6 laps…….. Boom!

On the schedule this was the final afternoon hill run in preparation for the BRR…. However  YHC would like to continue this event throughout the year – stay tuned..   The pax put in a good solid effort in hopes for some cold ones at the finish line…Thankfully cold ones and burgers along with great fellowship and a showing of The Barclays Marathons followed our run… Thanks to TYA for hosting and organizing the Wed hill run/ fellowship/ BRR – well done brother… The pax received packets of info regarding the BRR along with their drinks / food / movie…  In the packets there was a special gift designed by Honeydo that was very well received by the pax – can;t wait to wear mine – Corporate baby! Special props to Junkyard who locked his keys in his car before running – dude did not freak out – he simply called for help and began what he came there to do – well done dude..

YHC would like to congratulate the pax for all of the hard work they have put in training over the last year. It’s hard to believe the BRR is only 6 days away from today – in fact YHC would be close to finishing up my first leg right about this time….. Not that YHC thinks about this much…

Huge props to TYA and Bleeder for their leadership – these guys have put together a great event and we are sure to enjoy this coming weekend – thanks guys we could never pull this off with out y’all ! Every route is hard – just remember 1 foot in front of the other give this race your best effort – you can make it – your fellow pax and BRR team are with you every step of the way..YHC would also recommend remembering each time you run that cold beers, hot tubs, college football and some of the best stories ever told lie just ahead at the finish line..   It’s almost game time fella’s and YHC is  ready to take the field – are you with me??

  • Return of Fall Weather

10 strong and eager runners posted on a glorious Wednesday afternoon for a few hills.

    The Thang:

Hillcrest loop…Charmian extension – choose the number of loops

    NMM:

Only two weeks left until the BRR, one more Wednesday hill run. Pax all seem to be ready to roll. Weather is starting to help us on the training front. It was 85 degrees and low humidity for the run, and it was nice to finish a run without looking like I had taken a swim in the river. Swirly has so much energy around the BRR, that I am afraid he might start running towards Asheville starting Saturday.

Bleeder posted for the pre-run hoping to get a look at TYA’s new toy (the toy was not on site, but Bleeder did manage to crash the toy within 2 minutes of operating it, this morning). One of Bleeder’s best friends stopped by during his bike training on Hillcrest. Bleeder has been trying to get this guy out to F3 for 2 years now. Now that he met a few of us and saw what we had to offer, I am not sure if he is more or less likely to post.

The PAX headed to ET’s post workout. Issues continue with the service and the services at the bar. The normal non-existent staff was not there, plus the beer tap was out of commission. This did not stop the F3 crew. The crew just bought some bottled beer onsite and poured a few on the patio outside. Lab Rat continues to be a regular on Wednesday night. No, he doesn’t run on Wednesday’s, he just posts for the post race activities. I am a little worried that he might miss the running portion of the BRR and just show up at the post race house for the party. Only time will tell.

A couple of classic highlights at Ellwoods. 1) Saab who was trying to track down Aisle 5 in the store, turned the corner at Ellwoods and yelled “Aisle 5″….lots of confused looks from the patrons and a bit of self consciousness from Saab 2) The naming of the new Monday morning run at Atlee (first non official run was this Monday). Lab Rat threw out the text stream he and Abacus were having, then suggested some pretty lame alternatives. He redeemed himself at the end coming up with “Tomato run” since its in Hanover…. 3) Aisle 5 drinking some Cabernet with the the rest of the boys chugging beers. YHC does not understand why he finds this so funny, but I do.

    TYA Out

Next Wednesdays run followed by some food and beers at my house with a special showing of the Barkley’s Marathons

  • 70 and Sunny – Not Really

A bunch of folks posted for a Wednesday evening hill run, 10 runners, one BEERFO, and a couple of folks for the second F at YHC’s house.

    The Thang

6 or so loops on hillcrest, discretionary run up Chairman as desired.

    NMM

The weather was rough. At the start it was 97 and 85% humidity. To compensate for the weather, the PAX had a cooler full of waters at the top of the hill. Everyone hydrated, but it was still a struggle.

The front of the PAX was rolling yesterday with Rosie, Hardywood, Marv and Sippy laying down some impressive laps. They took on the Chairman hill on at least 3 of there spins around the neighborhood. Swirly, despite his promises to himself to take it easy, cranked around the route with Fudd for four or so laps. Aisle 5 is a complete beast, when he came back to the top of the hill for the 5th time and saw everyone had finished, he simply kept rolling around the block, because he was committed to six laps. Circle K had a good pace going around, but found it hard to leave a late arriving Lab Rat alone at the top.

Second F followed at YHC’s house. We had plenty of beer and conversation. A long talk about the BRR ensued. Marc is still composing another 50 or so questions about the logistics of the BRR. M TYA, TSB and Herbie (my 2.0’s) joined in on the second F outside for a bit. The weather broke up the party prematurely, but fun seemed to be had by all.

I would like to claim that this run was my worst ever athletic performance, but alas, I can remember a few that would rank lower. I started off strong on the first two laps, getting warmed up and into a groove. I still had a few of the PAX in front of me in sight and was keeping up pretty well. I stopped to hydrate on the third lap and poured some cold water over my head. That is where things began to fall apart. I made it around on the third lap OK, from pure stubbornness, but on the fourth and fifth I struggled severely. I ended up walking about half the back side of the hill on each lap. One of the things I pride myself on is that I never give up. I am always willing to work through anything…walking the hills crushed me. I know it is not a lack of effort on my part, I have been doing these hills for the past three months and have never had to walk before. My body or my will simply didn’t have the energy yesterday. Triumph never comes without failure, I am hopeful that since I experienced yesterday’s failure, I will soon find the triumph. I will have to wait an see

TYA out…21 days til the BRR
