Excellent cool weather for the latest edition of Morning Wood. House Party and I hit the streets with our ruck sacks at 6am and got in some miles. Big Rig was already running upon arrival and ventured down to the Genito Road Corridor. He joined us for the last 15 minutes or so. Post-workout survey suggested that a good time was had by all.

Where is the Y?
Excellent running weather this morning! YHC’s incredibly detailed route required the PAX to find a paved trail near the pond. This takes you up to the YMCA parking lot. Don Draper and I circled the soccer field, then made our way back to Midlothian Middle – a lap around the school and track finished things off. Bullseye/Singer reportedly asked for directions at one point…………But at 6:15 everyone was accounted for!
Had a great time this morning – it has been awhile since I posted at MOT, or run for that matter. Appreciate the wise words from Draper on a variety of subjects -
Third Annual Homegrown Half
For the third year in a row, YHC’s disorganization and lack of social promotion led to yet another successful homegrown half, 10K, and 5K!
Feedback from the PAX identified that the route last year kept everyone wanting more hills, so we brought back the OG double hill climbs and it was a big hit for all the half marathoners.
There was lots of mumble chatter along the way, but also a lot of camaraderie and shared disdain for the sudden resurgence of heat and humidity. At 6am, we kicked off to a true 70 and sunny, and the temp kept climbing throughout the race.
After the race, there was lots of speculation that our downrange guest, Dementia, was actually the infamous Bryan Kohberger, which turns out to be Fake News.
Special thanks to DTH for organizing a family, friendly 5K ruck with lots of participation.

Have you smiled in the mirror lately?
Four gloom brothers denied the fart sack a win, choosing instead to confront the dragon of chaos to capture the treasure it guards. Pleasant weather, funny mumble chatter, we had a decent schvitz and covered close to three miles.
Run over to parking lot. SSHs, Andy Dufresne, dead man hang, cherry pickers, copperhead squats, merkins, Roscoe’s mom, the Hermey stretch, the wife stretches
We ran the full track around the perimeter of the park and acted as if there were four corners. Non-prostitute style. The “corner”exercises were: 10 broad jump burpees, 20 mountain climbers, 30 lunges (15/leg), 40 groiners.
I wanted to go to the tennis courts, so we ran halfway around the park again, completing two corners. The corners were: 10 burpees, 20 scrunchy frogs.
Dora at tennis courts. Runner runs the perimeter of the court, 100 chain smokers, 200 mountain climbers double count, 300 monkey humpers.
Run to the concessions stand. 20 hoedowns followed by 20 merkins with feet elevated on a bench. Repeat 3x.
One final, non-prostitute style four corners around the parking lot. Corners were: 10 burpees, 20 jump squats, 30 mountain climbers, and 40…something. We did 40 of something. Time called.
Hermey took us out. Prayers for PAX on IR.
Good hustle this morning fellas! The best way to begin a weekend that I can think of. Thank you for letting me lead you!

Apocalypto
3 HIM’s representing the lumberyard – we stretched and we ran miles. Great run fellas way to push through! We talked about 2006 movie Apocalypto – if you haven’t seen it, it’s a great film and it involves running….for your life.
We all supported each other through the run and ended on a high note – the tone was set for the day!
Some runs are good, some are a struggle. This one was good.
Be where your feet are!

R&R, the new normal
Mid-60’s and breezy for another extremely peaceful Morning Wood – ample time to think, pray, and reflect on a missions project we’re partnering with in Papua New Guinea. After 30min rucking, returned to the Taco for some water and Woodsman arrived to drop a load of coupons on the grass hill. YHC convinced him to join a run of the green loop circuit, and he gamely participated in 2 loops while YHC (feeling no IT band pain) went for a third loop, total of 2.14mi with an improved VO2 Max of 54, up from last weeks 2-loop run. Overall excellent Morning Wood warmup for the Woodsman Beatdown to follow. Plenty of room for growth in this running game – maybe will shoot for 4 loops next week and just keep going up to see if we can outgrow this IT Band problem. Yours AYE! ~DTH

Goodnight, Construction Site
It’s often mentioned that Alamo and surrounding AOs are just pavement, and we like it that way! There’s a new neighborhood opening by Satans Hill and the smell of new pavement got us from six to midnight and we had to go explore. Nancy brought the ghost flag as a reminder of the power he possesses, but he held onto the flag for another day.
YHC announced we had a long mosey, and away we went. Up the main road and hang a right at the construction zone. Warm up included standard items, but we added a new one, the Merman, known for loosening up your back.
Partner up. There are 4 workout stations spaced out along the road. Each team ran to a different one to start, but it would go 1-2-3-4 then back to 1.
1 – 8 KB squat curl press, 8 upright rows, 8 skullcrushers
2 – 8 cinder managers, 8 curls, 8 overhead press
3 – 8 sandbag squats, 8 thrusters, 8 plank pull throughs
4 – 8 banded merkins, 8 deadlifts, 8 overhead press
Nancy and YHC completed two full circuits then made the mile long run from station 4 BTTF, grabbing PAX members as we went.

My Green Mile Base
Only way to be the heat and humidity is getting out there early! Solo Q at Morning Wood for YHC started with rucking the perimeter loop walking track which is now painted brightly green. There’s been a lot going on of late, and the quiet time rucking with Jesus created space for some good mental mumble chatter. Ended up thinking about how I hadn’t run in a while and the green loop track could be a nice distance to set a Base time with my Garmin. Rucked back to the truck and ditched the bag. Garmin set to go. Two laps completed for 1.43mi total, with a mile time of about 7:40 and VO2 Max at 53. Not bad, but despite great efforts to monitor my stride and keep the Right foot pushing properly off my right Great toe, my IT Band pain still started up pretty quick, about a mile into it. Well, at least now I have a base to compare to in future. ~DTH

Lumberyard Ruck and Run!
3 HIM’s emerged to the Lumberyard for some heavy rucking and running!
Wonka and Beaver carried a lot of weight – I decided to venture off for a run and we met back at the starting point for names and numbers.
