  • 25 to 4: No Mercy, No Math

Still feeling the sting from the 25–4 loss on July 22 in ultimate, we opened with 100 Side Straddle Hops—25 for every point allowed, descending in height until the silent count, where the Q misfired and dropped arms early. The penalty: 10 burpees for all. From there, we pushed through a soaked U-shaped grinder of merkins, jump squats, and monkey humpers, followed by a brutal fence-line rotation on the tennis courts—core, legs, lungs all tested while one ran. A hill-triple-check brought the grind home, capped by a plank hold with each man choosing his own flavor of merkin.

  • Ruck-N-Slide

16 HIM’s & 2.0’s assembled at Rockwood Park for a School of RUCK. The DTH Tacoma was heavy laden with extra rucks, bags, and bricks, and all warriors were loaded down before setting off into the woods. YHC found a couple nice cabers in the woods for the kids to take turns carrying. On our 1.5 mile trek we made it down to the lake and back, and there were a couple brief COP’s for squats and lunges along the way. We even attempted teaching and implementing the GrowRuck exercise of a thee-man team carrying one wounded warrior. It was challenging for the kids to grasp but we gave it a solid effort. We also had some kids loaded up on shoulders along the way for Dad’s to win a little extra 1st F. After about 45 minutes the PAX returned to the start for COT and we named our single FNG, Caleb (Ponch’s son) who loves baseball. Welcome OHTANI !!! We concluded our time with a lot of fun on the slip-n-slide and yummy watermelon. TClaps to all these victors for choosing the hard thing today. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • My Green Mile Base

Only way to be the heat and humidity is getting out there early! Solo Q at Morning Wood for YHC started with rucking the perimeter loop walking track which is now painted brightly green. There’s been a lot going on of late, and the quiet time rucking with Jesus created space for some good mental mumble chatter. Ended up thinking about how I hadn’t run in a while and the green loop track could be a nice distance to set a Base time with my Garmin. Rucked back to the truck and ditched the bag. Garmin set to go. Two laps completed for 1.43mi total, with a mile time of about 7:40 and VO2 Max at 53. Not bad, but despite great efforts to monitor my stride and keep the Right foot pushing properly off my right Great toe, my IT Band pain still started up pretty quick, about a mile into it. Well, at least now I have a base to compare to in future. ~DTH

  • SOJ Ghost Flag Returns!

After a mysteriously long delay, the SOJ Ghost Flag re-emerged at Satan’s Hill. Dreams of a Nancy Lopez Hulk Hogan themed workout were shattered. Here is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Warm Up: Mosey up Satans Hill. On the way back: Knee Pulls, Open the Gate, Overhead Claps, Hillbillies, Arm Circles.

Circle up for Jazzercise, Mummy Kicks, Pickle Pounders, Alabama Prom Dates.

    The Workout: Mystery Box
1 man draws a card and calls out the exercise, then totes the medicine ball up Satan’s Hill and back. PAX performs the exercise for the duration.

    Burpees
    Sprints w/10 seconds rest
    Hand Release Merkins
    Carolina Dry Docks
    V-Ups
    Bear Crawl
    Murder Bunnies
    Crunchy Frogs
    WWII sit ups
    Hello Dollies
    Lt. Dans
    American Hammers
    Smurf Jacks
    Jump Squats
    Run up Satans Hill
    *Two Others

Nancy Lopez lead 2 minutes of cool down exercises until time was called.

COT and TryHard took us out

Final Thoughts: Had a great time leading this morning and getting the flag back in circulation! Appreciate NTB, OC, DTH, Sable, House Party and Touchdown for making the trek. Nancy was a great sport and I have no doubt he and the SSOJ crew will be seeking retribution in a big way. As usual, the Mystery Box playlist created some controversy with “Thirsty and Miserable” specifically being criticized by the workout music purists – SMH. Mudslide exhibited encyclopedic knowledge of wrestling as respect was paid to Hulk Hogan. We are all Real Americans!

  • Jolly Good Fellows

Nine noble lads embarked on a 3.5mi ruck around Larus Park and the Stony Point Mall on this week’s episode of Ruckhenge. YHC brought a couple of gift bags for the PAX to share, each weighing approximately 40lbs.

Coffeerama at Einstein’s followed as per usual and the PAX had a great discussion on chapter 3 of H. Muller’s Uses of the Past, which deals with Judaism, Christianity, and their proliferation throughout history. Next week we turn our attention to Ancient Greece.

Prayers for Pad Thai and his M as they are expecting baby #2 at any day now, as well as, L Woods and his M who are scheduled for IVF implantation in the week to come.

  • NOS vs SOS, The Ultimate Rivalry

27 SOJ warriors met on the pristine NoToll fields of battle for a first ever NOS vs SOS (North of South, South of South) Rivalry matchup. The ultimate disc was the weapon of the day and both sides of Midlothian were ready to do battle. Here’s how first blood was not just drawn, but gloriously spilled without mercy.

    The THANG:

    WARMERAMA:

    • Mosey lap around the field and circle up
    • Welcome & Disclaimer
    • Brief smattering of IC Reps

    SPLITTING TEAMS:

    • SOS brought 11 PAX and a fancy LED frisbee
    • NOS brought 16 warriors, and two HIM’s who live at or just on the other side of Midlothian were sent over to balance the teams (originally we had 15 so after sending two over it was an even split 13 vs 13, then NOS had a latecomer join during the first game)
    • With NOS and SOS split, Crabgrass and DTH split their PAX in halves, so each playing team was either 6 or 7 guys
    • Rules explained – two 15min games for each team to play the opposing two teams. Final score cumulative.

    GAME 1:

    • The 6v6 teams took the further field, while the 7v7 remained on Field 1
    • LIFO Destiny’s Child arrived during Game 1 and joined the NOS 6 man team as a sub
    • The 7v7 was a fairly even match-up with NOS pulling ahead to win 4-2
    • The 6v6 was reportedly “excellent exercise” with a score of 0-0… YHC was to later learn this was the score Crabgrass wished for, but was in fact a massive victory for NOS of 7-0
    • Total points: 11-2 with NOS well ahead

    GAME 2:

    • Teams switched opponents
    • For the 6v6 game, the extra man team used a sub to keep it even, and NTB even played for the SOS and got them a TD
    • Final score for both games was 7-1, with NOS proving to be the clearly superior PAX when it comes to Ultimate Frisbee
    • Total points: 14-2 with NOS on top

FINAL SCORE: NOS 25, SOS 4

    • TClaps to the NOS Warriors!!!
    • Challenge thrown to SOS to host and choose their preferred sport for the next matchup.

Circle up at the Fieldside SF for COT:

    • Counterama # 27
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • BOM Prayer

    Prayer Requests:

    • Pad Thai and his M have reached the Delivery Day today for their second child, prayers for peace and safety for mother and child

NMS:  Well WELL, that was quite fun to trounce the boys of the deep South! So far the young pups are all bark and no bite. We’ll just have to wait and see what they can do for a comeback match hosted on their own SOS turf. Honestly there were amazing plays for both sides in all the games, but the NOS PAX have a few ringers and were able to get the passing game to work well. Look forward to the next one. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Pleothra of mini Qs

After yesterday’s CSAUP over at v Satan’s Hill(where my heart rate for that workout I averaged 143bpm), I did not want to lead. I had the previous week I was willing to do the COP, but it was time to see can I call on someone and real quick come up with something. They did not disappoint, 10 mercanaries in training came out on another Saturday in which the sun hot a certain spot, the humidity cranked up

i started it with a little COP(SSHs, Don Quixote, Helicopters, imperial Walkers, Merkins, LBCs) after we finished, I turned it over to Pierogi where he went 4 corners on the fence(10 burpees, 20 Merkins, 30 SSHs, 40 squats). The kicker was it was 3 rounds: the burpees and Merkins increased by 5, the SSHs and squats 10. The final round was 20 burpees, 30 merkins, 50 SSHs, 60 squats

Next up Steamer, A little indigenous run with mountain climbers, run to the front then a ROF ab style Melville with a great 5 rounds of 10 American Hammers. Woodsman next with a mini suicide/burpee combo followed by a triple check People’s chair, step ups and run down and up

More you say…Cha Cha went double indigenous(1st go around 5 Merkins, 2nd 2 burpees then hauling ass to the front). We had time for one more so Wet Bandit took us down the hill in the grass for bear crawls, mosey down run up then lunges to the end. I led us in a little broga with the hour up. Names, Numbers, prayer led by YHC to close it out. Plenty of activity coming up the next big thing is the homegrown in August(I am not sure if I am going to do the half or so a double of the 10 and 5k runs will see).

As you can see, others have that ability to lead. I did not want to Q today delegate it plus have those come up with something now a short Q is not easy so a full 45 or 60 minute one, there are a few factors involved. I do want to go full bore once a month though, Yesterday at Satan’s was proof that it can be done so it would be no warm up, we start and go so starting in August, whether at RNR, Satan’s or wherever we go all out I will give warning beforehand. Get rest, recover see you next time

  • 3 rebels launched into a 4 mile run while YHC +1 did some track work

It was cool but muggy, but we goter done

  • All In Gentlemen

The following is Based on a true story ….

This morning, 16 battle-ready HIMs rolled into the Woodshed to witness Teddy KGB’s glorious VQ debut — and boy, the chips were cashed in.

We kicked things off with a mosey around the lot, gracefully leaping puddles like majestic gazelles in New Balances. Warm-up was textbook: Side Straddle Hops, Merkins, and LBCs to get the blood flowing and the chatterboxes humbled.

    Then came the real fun.

Coupons were expertly stashed just out of sight like hidden Easter eggs for grown men. We partnered up and went to work: farmer carries torched the forearms while the other partner knocked out Merkins, squats, and LBCs. The pain was real. The grunts were louder.

    We weren’t done.

The pax then took it to the streets — a full loop around the block. Moms out for their morning jogs swooned as the squad charged the hill with thunderous determination. One was overheard whispering, “Is that F3? Or the cast of 300?”

Back in the lot, we quick a partner core gauntlet  And then a Ring of Fire that sealed the deal like a Russian mob handshake.

Teddy KGB delivered a VQ worthy of legend — strong voice, strong beatdown, and strong hiding skills with those coupons.

Thank you for the warm welcome to the rotation, comrades

    Aye.
