  • Hot Dog Style

9 grown-boys kicked off The Boys of Summer competition this morning at Timberwolf. Ultimate FOOTBALL was the sport of choice this morning and here’s what went down.

Moseyed down to the track. Explained The Boys of Summer point system, gave the F3 mission and got into it. Stretched, broke into teams and split the field “hot-dog style” using cones.

Team #1 – Rudy, Matlock, Bru, Bobsled, McGruff

Team #2 – Fandango, Warby, Crabgrass, Fly Boy

    Result: Team #1 (2 scores), Team #2 (7 scores)

    Lessons learned:

    • Fandango prefers hamburger style
    • Warby is yoked these days!
    • Crabgrass is a 5-tool guy
    • Fly Boy is a bit pessimistic
    • Matlock can’t be a ninja wearing orange
    • Bru wants to tackle people
    • Bobsled is a saint
    • McGruff is ALIVE!
    • YHC may eat his words and look into buying cleats

    POINTS AWARDED

    • The PAX each get (1) for showing up
    • YHC (Rudy) (1)
    • YHC Prop (Warby) (1) for sweetest catch
    • Battle Points: McGruff for making an appearance and Bru for his consistency as of late (2 each)

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    PRAYERS

    • WIN: Warby has made some off-the-field changes and thanks F3 for the impact
    • WIN: Matlock and his M are celebrating their 10-year dating anniversary.
    • PRAYER: Fandango’s father had a heart attack last night.
  • PR-ecipitation Punisher

A couple of stallions joined YHC as he kicked off training to PR his mile time by year end. As the pax joked ‘I think we’re getting wet,’ the downpour turned torrential. We did brocode to the Midlo High track, then it was each man for himself for 800 repeats, then back to the flag – all totaling about 4.5 miles of exhaustion.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out. Prayers for Hermey’s upcoming surgery.

We immediately scattered like water drops on a hot skillet, as if the rain could get us any more wet.

  • Ruck-a-ccino

5 wet bandits made their way to the stop sign today. Some dawned umbrellas, some embraced the rain in a more natural way. 5:30 off we go

Did the typical route through the hilly part with a brisk pace. We managed to make it past Toby’s house before any HR violations. Topics today were Holly Madison, what age is appropriate for Jurassic Park, the importance of submarine regulations, and TSG found out that Flyboy is the Bubba Gump of Midlothian golf courses.

rain was consistent but couldn’t hold us back!

  • Broga to start

When I arrived home from work, the rain let up. I was still committed to do a routine it would be more standing, not much on the ground. Luckily we were blessed it was not bad at all. I used the meet up area as our place to get ready. A day like today, try to work everything top to bottom, hit the muscles get them mobile knowing they’re about to take a thrashing. It was about 15-20 minutes, then we were ready for the main part

A tip for those who want to just get started. You don’t need to do 1x a week for 20-30 minutes, you can get more of a benefit with shorter 10-15 minutes multiple times a week. When I get home from work, I have a few playlists on YouTube with over 100 short sessions, pick one get it done and that’s it. Sometimes the hardest part is simply stepping on the mat, hit play and start. Takes 3 weeks to develop where it becomes a routine. Give it time. See you at the next gloom

  • 300, Broga and my return to the Q sheet

i took time away from leading Qs, one thing is simply enjoy the workouts led by others yet the other part is yours truly on a tear going to this or doing that which takes me away from going to my usual spots especially the weekend ones. This morning…..15 brave souls(they forgot to read the Satan’s Hill and 1st fitness board to bring a weight). Luckily I brought a few extras plus the Cindy’s and Crabgrass having a couple sandbags available we worked it out. I like to try things out, do things we all are not used to today a version of the 300 workout(which down the road, I will do more cause it”s one that have a lot of potential and possibilities with what can be done. Broga was also on the menu, guys need it especially as you get older, you want to stay flexible and mobile. Here’s the breakdown:

A short warmup(SSHs, Helicopters, Copperhead squats, Merkins, a little stretching) it was time to get into the 300. The original plan was 6 different exercises at 50 reps a piece but I felt this time it was a little too much(don’t think down the road I won’t have one). I spilt things up smaller parts there were a couple that were straight 50 reps(a bit in after the party was finished, up the hill, 3 Navy Seal Burpees then back down). Each part was

    1. 20 swings, 20 skull crushers, 10 plank suicides
    2. 20 goblet squats, 20 rows/side, 10 cleans/side
    3. 50 Australian Mountain Climber
    4. 20 poop shovelers, 20 plank pull thrust, 10 presses/side
    5. 50 walking lunges
    6. 20 Waiter Presses, 30 Hindu squats

Once we finished or came close, it was Broga time. A little stretching out plus a moment where Heist was relaxed(I have something in the future for that). Time was up, Numbers, names, announcements and prayer led by YHC to close it out

Weather was nice for it, I have future plans for 300 Fridays all kettlebell, all bodyweight etc or simply another thing will be 12-20 minute AMRAP workouts (fact next time I lead at Satan’s, we’ll do that). Monday if you come to convergence, you will see the new amphitheater that opens 6/6. My dream workout spot would be a place like Red Rocks in Colorado(has everything there you need to get in a great workout plus they do huge yoga classes). Fact I have a female friend who is a certified yoga teacher perhaps one time for a fee to help her out she can do a class. Things in Richmond area here recently I have been doing: my son goes to a place the Glass Spot (where you make things with glass using a 2000 degree oven and watch it go from nothing to say a drinking glass or a vase). Another thing is the dome at the science museum. 1x a month they do laser shows with music(we have done Dark Side of the Moon, Quuen last week that was awesome, next month the music of Prince it’s 55 minutes(they do sell alcohol there and they sell out so let me know I know someone who works there gives us a heads up to what they will have). Tomorrow will be neat, I have an opportunity to demo drive a Rivian(all electric vehicle) I will drive the SUV I will not buy one now, but it will be neat to actually drive one and feel what it’s like. See you tomorrow, Monday at Brown’s Island, etc I have a little break before probably the homegrown later in the summer, Spartan in October and running the Richmond half in November.

  • Death by 1,000 throws

14 grown boys came out to Timberwolf this morning to play some Ultimate! Initially YHC thought we had 13 but Matlock emerged from the shadows like a ninja and suddenly appeared while we stretched.

Moseyed down to the track to stretch. Gabe the mission and got right into it. Full length of the field and end zones were the full width of the field this time around.

Team 1: Warby, Mudslide, Tzatziki, Fly Boy, Wildcat, Woodsman, The Duke

Team 2: Crabgrass, Fandango, Festivus, Cookie, Matlock, Bru, Rudy

Team 1 executed their playbook to perfection (think Patriots dink and dunk offense in the early 2000’s) and were able to pick apart Team 2 at will. Frustrating to defend but VERY effective. Team 2 showed some flashes of brilliance but struggled to get back on defense which led to their defeat. YHC will of course own the L.

    Team 1: 5 scores

    Team2: 2 scores

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    • Memorial Day Convergence
    • Boys of Summer starts soon

    PRAYERS/WINS

    • YHC’s son graduates preschool today! Huge pay raise. Proud of you, Maddox.
  • Ruck-a-ccino

4 brave HIMs came out to play in the rain this morning. Had we known there was vandalism running amuck in Pountrey, we may have hit the streets earlier! According to Rudy’s Ring camera, here’s what took place…

Went down Bellstone Ct to check in on some of our compadres, but lights were off. Loop down to the reservoir and back up past McGruffs to the burnt down gas station and through the rolling hills. Good pace today, rain held off for the most part, and we’re better men for being out there!

Lots of good chatter. Fandango wanted to hijack an amazon car for fun, Toby has many HR violations to log at work today (unless he truly is CIA), Flyboy got realllllly excited when someone mentioned vortex ring state, and YHC asked is anyone was watching Last of Us.

    Good times boys!

  • 364-127-44-30-5ish

    364-127-44-30-5ish

    POOLBOY’s 1 year Qversary

long mosey to the bball court for the the WARMARAMA. Helicopters, cherry pickers and 44SSH. Hoedowns on the wall 15 count x2 to equal 30. Mosey to the busloop. I measured and verified it was exactly 127ft long kinda for a curb crawl. Long mosey to the cow pasture for some Turkish getups on the fence. My two least favorite workouts are running and burpees so that’s what we did. 10 burpees at 3 spots (30)while running the perimeter of the cow pasture to the Pavillion. From here we made it to the parking lot for abc’s then pole dancers and stiletto double clutch squats. I noticed Broadway was missing out on some merkins so I had to call it. We Bernied the hill and crawl bear down 5ish times. We finished off with a ring of fire on the yoga mat for abs. This was a fast fun Q to mark the 1 year. It was one day shy of a year so 364, 127 is how many Posts I’ve had, 44 lbs I’ve lost, 30 Q’s, and 5ish FNG’s. Thanks to everyone continuing to push me.
