  • When EF Speaks, Ollie Doesn’t Listen

A solid 14 sought truth on a beautiful Wednesday at Midlo Middle.  Only a few travelers from north of the river, the rest were business as usual.  Here’s how it went down.

    MOLESKIN

YHC traveled down to SOT with a simple, but effective plan of attack.  A total body beatdown with very little fluff was the idea.  YHC loves a good theme, but sometimes it’s best to just get to work.  After having just done 35 sets of exercises each with 10 repetitions and a little running mixed in, somehow Ollivander got the idea that the PAX was to do 5 Burpees on the last set.  YHC and others looked on in amazement as Ollie shot back down the field while the rest of the PAX was on Burpee # 2.  Even Sippy couldn’t keep up with that pace.  As Q called for a reverso of exercises Ollie caught on that 10 was the correct number.  Being a man of principle, all Burpees were completed.  YHC, didn’t hear a lot of the mumblechatter, but did at one point hear someone say “EF you’re getting me so wet.”  YHC isn’t sure whether to be flattered or disgusted.

ANNOUNCEMENTS HDHH – SOJ status is Questionable to Doubtful

  • Omaha, Omaha

An impressive 15 strong men, from Hate to Respect, Respect, reported to SOT this morning to enjoy the comfortable temps and find the snake Wedding Singer planted last week.

    COP:

Mosey for a partial lap around MMS stopping in the front lot for a warmup… DQs x10, Windmills x5, Russian Soldiers x10, and SSHs x10.

    Modified Curb Crawls

Mosey along the front of the school picking up Döner Kebab, who made a pitstop on the way to SOT.  Line up on the curb.  Bear Crawl to the opposite curb and perform 20 box jumps on the curb.  Crawl Bear back and perform 10 walkout Merkins.  Repeat 5 times.  Exhausted and hearing mumble groaning, YHC called an audible to finish with 4 rounds.

    Triple Check

Mosey to the track and partner up for a Triple Check.  Partner 1 runs, partner 2 performs Merkins, and partner 3 performs Squats.  The run… up and down the grass hill.  A nicely manicured hill used by the cross-country team that YHC can’t believe hasn’t been utilized previously.

The “audible” here was made prior to the start.  YHC intended to use this hill for Crawl Bears but altered because of the grumbling heard during the Bear Crawl / Crawl Bear mentioned above.

    Triple Nickel

Mosey to the back of the concession stand.  Wall Sit, followed by a backwards run (Marmaduke style) up the paved hill, perform various Merkins at the top.  Repeat 5 times.  On rounds 3, 4, and 5, stop in the middle for a short section of Crawl Bears.

    4 Corners

Mosey to the courts for 4 Corners, ascending.  Merkins x10, Jump Shot Jump Squats x20, SSHs x30, LBCs x40.  Mosey back to the flag.

    Numberama, Namerama

    Announcements

HDHH in the west end on 6/19.

Grateful for the strong showing this morning.  YHC is always a little nervous adding to the Q sheet – fearing no one will show.  YHC is also fearful of snakes, so we stayed away from the west end of the track / woods.

I’ve never seen a dog run backwards, but Marmaduke was first to the top on all 5 backward runs.  Great job buddy.

I appreciate you guys pushing me harder every day.

  • Modified Murph

And so it begins, the infiltration of PAX members from abroad. Eleven showed up to Source of Truth on a balmy May Wednesday.

Mosey to lower parking lot, warm up- SSH, Don Q, Slow squats, LBCs, box cutters.

Mosey to track – MURPH with a modification. Run 1 mile, partner up with the closest person finishing with you, perform 100 Boo Ya Merkins, 200 Partner leg Throws, and 300 yards of Partner Carry across the field. Finish with one more mile.

Mosey to flag, hold feet at 6 inches while each PAX member individually gives a shout out to a Veteran and performs 5 heals to heaven.

Great job men! YHC has been well aware of ‘coasting’ and not doing his part in the leadership of F3RVA. With Big Data in the trail, there’s no hiding, so back to Q it is! Thanks for indulging, apologies for a few protocol mishaps but all was covered and no member was harmed.

YHC admits not all planned exercises are productive in nature (see Bridge from Hell – Fudd), this modified Murph had good intentions but was proved to difficult. Also it’s never a good idea to put a workout like the Murph right on top of a recent Murph, my apologies to the Twin Team folks attending both Friday and today. But it all worked out and the PAX got the blood flowing.

Enjoyed meeting and partnering with Corned Beef from Hanover, who’s been crushing it for only a couple weeks now. Doozie and Tobit were well out in front. Steady redwoods Rosie and Gumbo, Honey Do and McRib not too far behind. Lug you’ve been on a tear this year, bedhead and all. Bullseye logging a few extra miles before the workouts, impressive.

By the way, anyone identify the snake on the track??? That think looked venomous like a Timber Rattler.

    NMS:

Lots of MumbleChatter before 530 hit, but not much after that. Strong work by all this morning. Great to see McRib and Bobber continuing to post. Also good to see Singer back out and pushing through some injuries that have been lingering, keep it up brotha! TCI Claps to Bullseye, OC, and Rosie for putting in the EC run prior to posting. Respect to Lug and Gumbo for doing some light reading in the cars before posting, not sure how thats possible, YHC is barely awake at that time. Doozy continues to fly on the runs, dude is a monster. Awesome partnering with DK and Gumbo today, appreciate the push fellas. And of course Sugar and Rosie crushed the 11s pretty quickly as expected. Wilson was first back to the flag, who says he doesn’t like to run!?!? Appreciate the PAX allowing me to lead, this group is special and its awesome to watch it grow. Have a great Day gents!!

    Marmaduke!!

Eight strong mosey into a brisk gloom

    COT

    Moleskin

Knowing the plan to run the streets around the AO YHC was surprised/concerned to see Bullseye had launched early for extra credit.  Being the stud Bullseye is he had no issue adding extra miles to his morning.

Doozy, Tobit & Mouse Trap led the pax between corners.  They were so fast on the downhill portion YHC thought we lost them.  Never fear though, they reappeared from behind at corner 2.

DK and Bullseye had a nice conversation about the YMCA and cool stuff that’s going on with the kids.  YHC listened, couldn’t breathe, and was very thankful one child just graduated college and 1 is halfway through.  Lookout guys, time flies!

Nancy Lopez & Wilson did not share the same enthusiasm about the run as Tobit & Doozy.  I can certainly appreciate that, but will add Nancy took off from corner 3 like he was shot out of a cannon and led the pax for quite a while and finished strong.  Wilson says he’s not a “runner” but can kick into any gear necessary and closed out the run in super strong fashion.  I think I heard him say “I can’t wait to do the BRR again”?  Maybe not though.

Anyhow, strong closeout speed from Wilson & DK at the end was impressive.

If anyone has a good story on how Tobit became Tobit please let him know.  The more grandiose the story the better!

    Great work men!

  • In honor of Orange Crush

YHC secured pickup of Don Draper & Orange Crush and delivered them to the Source of Truth, where we picked up some other SOJ stallions to welcome the Sunny & 70 degree May morning. The beatdown went something like this:

    THANG

Mosey to front of school for COP: SSHs, DQs, Imperial Walkers, Bob & Weaves, Tempo Merkins, LBCs, Capital Letters

Mosey down to field for Beast-a-Thon: Beast until the Q says stop with several varying plank-o-ramas after 2 reps. Exercises included: Copperhead Squats, Merkins, Squat Jumps, Monkey Humpers, 2-count Mtn Climbers, Russian Soldiers (traditional 6 sets), then BURPEES, then Shoulder Taps in plank position

Circle up for some Slow Mary: Freddies, LBCs, Hello Dollies, Flutterkicks

Mosey to the bottom of the hill back up to the VSF for Dealers Choice: 90s bear crawl or forward lunge up the hill

COT – Marmaduke took us out

    NAKED MOLESKIN

DKs SOJ Clown Car was alive and well this AM. Bullseye called for a soft pass over the texts last night…then Don Draper and I saw him pull out in front of us on Winterfield.

The Beast was in honor of Orange Crush, since YHC thought he hadn’t ever experienced one. Wilson was quick to point out that he had, hence we didn’t stop BEASTING until YHC said to. There was part of YHC that wanted to just BEAST for 45 min. Maybe next time.

Doozy led most of the reps, but Lug Nut surprised all of us by leading the Monkey Humpers. We see you Lug! What is it about Humpers that spur you along faster?

    Announcements:

    Field Day Saturday

    Convergence Memorial Day

  • These fields aren’t like NoToll fields…

5 SOJers started their hump day with some action. The flag was planted and off we went with a slowsy lap around the parking lot in case Mr. Roper or any other LIFOs were coming…none…so we headed down to the field for COP.

COP included DQs, Helicpoters, SSHs, Imperial Walkers, Copperhead Squats, Alternating Shoulder Taps and LBCs – All IC.

    THE THANG

    Long Distance Lindsays

Line up on the end-line and do 30 merkins and 10 Jump Squats, then run the length of the football field. At the other end do 25 and 15 and so on down to 10-30.

Recovery Lap up the stairs across behind the bleachers and back down the other steps.

    Suck Relay with Stairs

4 men exercising while one man runs up the stairs, across behind the bleachers and back down the other stairs – rotate when runner returns. Repeat x 2. Exercises were – plank (regular or elbow or back and forth, just hold it dammit), APDs, SSHs, Box Cutters.

Mosey up the stairs past the Sysco truck (who was late today…Wilson!) and over to the Tennis courts

    Compounding Four Corners

Corner 1 = 10 merkins, then sprint AYG to the corner 2

Corner 2 = 10 merkins, 20 jump squats, then lunge to corner 3

Corner 3 = 10 merkins, 20 jump squats, 30 single-count mountain climbers, then sprint AYG to corner 4

    Repeato back to the start.

Slowsy back to the Flag for 2 rounds of ROF:

    • Round 1 = hold six inches and perform 10 Hello Dollies when it is your turn.
    • Round 2 = hold plank and perform 10 plank jacks when it is your turn.

COT, Number-rama, Name-a-Rama and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

    • Field Day – May 11 at Dogpile – claim your nano region and show up to compete. SOJers – let me know if you will be there. Uniform is t-shirt (preferably white or a Hooters shirt) with cutoff sleeves and cutoff jean shorts.

    NMS:

No partner work today….the dreaded 5-some called for some individual you vs you work and of course a version of YHC’s favorite, The Suck.

It was warm this morning and the planking and running certainly got the sweat rolling. During the Lindsays, other than sucking wind and watching Doozy and Tobit fly, YHC noticed the stark difference between the field conditions at old Midlo Middle versus the plush fields of NoToll. Heads up Timberwolf PAX – we may need to test the Timberwolf field tomorrow.

Way to work fellas. It was great effort by all. And, of course, a great way to start the day.

No More Gumbo For You…until Timberwolf!

  • Doozy, Stop making Sh&% up!!!

8 Faithful warriors met at the battle ground of SOT this morning to see what craziness YHC might have in store for them and it went mostly down hill from there.

Mosey to the bottom of the hill.

    COP:

    (10) SSH

    (10) Don Quotes

    (10) Helicopters

    (10) Was supposed to be what YHC would call Preacher Seat SSH’s, crab walk position push with arms and clap hands over your stomach before you return to crab walk position. Note to self: TEST new exercises before reveling them to the PAX day of your Q

    Triple Check:

    Squats

    Wall Sits (Low)

Run to the top of the hill and back

    Mosey to the track:

1 mile relay, for what I thought would be the perfect number of warriors (8). (2) at starting line doing Box Cutters, (2) ¼ way around the track doing Ball Dippers, (2) half way around track doing Russian Soldiers, (2) ¾ around the track doing Cherry Pickers. When the whistle is sounded first group sprints to tag second group, second group sprints to third group and then third to forth. This would have worked great if YHC would have realized that when the first group left that left a gap with nobody to push to the next group. Rosie pointed out that it would have worked with five sets of (2) or one Warrior from each group running while the other stays to continue the exercise. I will go back to the drawing board on this and revise it for the next Q.

    Mosey to the bleachers:

Stick with partners from 1 mile relay.

(50 total) Brake it up anyway you want to get to 50 as a team. Backwards sit ups, one partner lays on the bleacher with torso hanging over the end while partner holds their feet, raise up level to bleachers.

(100 total) Brake it up anyway you want to get to 100 as a team. Leg tosses

Run 5 (each) laps up one side of bleachers across the back down the other side and across the front

Mosey to the front of the school for a tree touch with the same partners:

Touch 1 tree, come back to your partner, touch 2 trees – so on and so on. Exercises are your choice American Hammers, WWII’s or Dips, while your partner is being the best tree huger he can be.

    Mosey back to the flag:

    (10) Burpees – OYO to end on a good note

    Number-Rama, Name-O-Rama

    YHC took us out

    Announcements:

Ghost Flag at The Forge tomorrow

    Puppy Pile this Saturday

If I missed one please mention it below

    NMS:

The PAX was being very generous this morning in putting up with YHC’s 2nd Q. I think I heard more than one snicker as I took my notes out to reveal the next exercise, YHC does not have the best short or long term memory. PAX did seam relieved when the new Preacher Seat SSH was not able to be demonstrated by YHC (we skipped it). YHC had every intention of practicing that before this morning but due to life and softball, forgot about it until he saw it on his cheat sheet and decided “why not?”.

  • No Bullseye? Ab-tastic!

7 SOJ warriors assembled at Midlo Middle School. Their search for the Source of Truth went something like this:

    THANG

Mosey to far side of school for COP: SSHs, Empirial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, 20 Tempo Merkins, Plank Shoulder Taps, LBCs, Slow LBCs, Box Cutters 1 direction, Box Cutters other direction, Alabama Prom Dates

Mosey to front of school for Curb Crawl: up to 6 and back down

Assemble for Doors for Orange Crush: As a PAX, run school perimeter, stop at each numbered door, perform 1 burpee + an ab exercise according to the number on the door. Each member of PAX gets to call exercises for 5 doors, which included Flutterkicks, WWIIs, American Hammers, Hello Dolly Crossovers, Pickle Pounders, Freddies

Mosey back to cars for Partner Pain: Partner up, 1 dips on benches, other performs 25 squats, switch, repeat until time is called

Walk to VSF for COT: Gumbo took us out with a quote that went something like “If the people in your circle are not inspiring you, then you’re not in a circle at all, rather you’re in a cage.” Given this definition, the F3 circle is definitely a circle!

    Naked Moleskin

It’s not much on paper, but that was a smokefest for sure. 20 tempo merkins left the Q winded, in case anyone couldn’t tell….then followed by a traditional curb crawl.

In fact, YHC thought we could get a Beast in as well. YHC must be a little rusty…because the Doors ended with 5 min to go!

Tobit lead the PAX through the doors…and was good to wait for the PAX after 5 doors.

Not much mumblechatter today, except for the College BBall/Kyle Guy talk as we moseyed.

It was a pleasure, and YHC appreciates the PAX helping call out the exercises.

    Announcements

Lots happening tomorrow: Gomer Pyle stamps his SOJ Passport to Q Timberwolf, while Don Draper performs his VQ at THE FORGE

  • The Old Ball and 20′ Logging Chain

11 hardy veterans from the Gloom showed up to greet the early morning and enjoy a VQ beatdown and some fellowship.

As this was YHC’s first actual Q, mistake number 1 was to ask the PAX if they where ready to mossy? Mumble chatter about how “this is your Q Doozy” and “I don’t know, what do you want to do” were heard throughout the AO. The PAX did give in and did a (Rosie) Mossy to a spot in front of the school, from there this is what went down.

    (12) SSH
    (12) Don Quixote’s
    (12) Wind Mills or as everyone else informed YHC Helicopters (but Wilson said “you be you Doozy” so Wind Mills they stayed

My cadence was disrupted a few times by the silly person talking inside my head but once I had a word with him, things got straightened out

Mossy another 20 yards line up on the curb

Bear Crawl to the other Curb (12) Merkins Bear Crawl back (12) Merkins
    Repeto – with Crawl Bear
    Repeto – Crab Walk

Mossy to bus parking lot to find (10) bus parking spaces with exercises written out in chalk at each parking space (we had 11 warriors this morning so an 11th spot was added to allow every warrior their own spot). As it is YHC’s (48) birthday today 4+8=12 all exercises = 12 count, complete the exercise in your space run a lap around the school move to the next space complete that exercise repeto for all spaces. Space 5 reserved for the ball or chain, I had a 20’ logging chain in my truck (doesn’t everyone?) and a dodge ball that the dog popped, now filled with sand and covered in duct tape. Take either ball or chain and run around the school (extra credit if you could carry both) I don’t think anyone attempted it.

    1. American Hammers
    2. Merkins
    3. LBC’s
    4. Ball Dippers
    5. Run with ball or chain
    6. Box Cutters
    7. Carolina Dry Docks
    8. WWII
    9. Squat Jumps
    10. Heals to Heaven
    11. Burpees

Time was called finish where you are, mossy back to the flag. 2 minutes remaining finish out with various forms of the plank position.

Number-rama, Name-a-rama and YHC take us out

Announcements: The Forge #Dos happening tomorrow – Good times to be had

    NMS:

“I do not intend to offend; I offend with my intent” – only 80’s metal heads will know what song that is from. My intent was not to run as much as the day prior because of Old Glory but I can’t help it it’s in my DNA. Wilson was more than happy to hear that we would run around the school after each exercise which someone mentioned put us right around 4 +/- miles for the morning. It was either that or run around the track and I thought the track was a farther run (my Garman is broke). As usual Rosie and Tobit lead the way and everyone worked on what they could.

Well done team and thank you for helping me start my birthday in a positive, fun, rewarding way

P.S. Senility must be setting in because I did call out 47 during the Name-a-rama
