  • #SOT, the Funhouse of Distractions

Six of the faithful posted at #SOT this morning. Discussions, of course, centered around Hurricane Matthew, its current track, and its potential impact on F3Richmond’s 2-year anniversary. Johnsonville cut those off, planting a VSF and seizing the Q role. This is what went down, more or less:

Mosey to bus loop by school to escape the roar of the single school bus warming up in our parking lot.

Robust warmup, including SSH, crab cakes, don quiotes, scap merkins, LBCs, imperial walkers, hillbillies, etc.

    Run lap around bus loop.

Line up along sidewalk for ascending curb crawls to 10.

    Run lap around bus loop.

Group up in grass for ascending burpee / wall planks (do 5 burpees, then 1 wall plank; do 5 burpees, then 2 wall planks; do 5 burpees, then 3 wall planks, etc. to 10).

Plank sequence. Mosey to basketball court.

    COP with Alabama Prom Dates

Plank on line along basketball court lane for ascending plank walk / jump squats (do plank walk along lane, then 1 jump squat; do plank walk along lane, then 2 jump squats; do plank walk along lane, then 3 jump squats; etc. to 10).

Line up on end line. Crabwalk to center of court. Feet-first crab walk back. Flip and bear crawl to center of court.

    COP with var. Mary

    Moleskin:

The temperature was perfect this morning, and men showed up mentally and physically ready for some honest work. It was a good day, but the AO brought out a series of rather puzzling distractions.

First, there was the normal bus roaring in the parking lot by the track (OUR parking lot). The school must have dozens of buses. Why does that one always warm up in our parking lot? Why does it need to be so smelly and loud? I thought most government officials actually bought into the idea of man-made global warming.

Second, commencing during our very first short mosey (to escape the roaring, smelly school bus), the school’s fire alarm tripped and was steadily droning away for most of the remaining 44.5 minutes of the workout. A firetruck arrived around back with bright lights flashing but, stayed a while, and (inexplicably) departed without turning off the obnoxious alarm.

Third, after our first run around the bus loop, a Chesterfield Couty police officer pulled up into the bus loop and started eyeing Rosie very suspiciously. I thought for sure that we were about to get cuffed and taken to the station for questioning. Thankfully, the deputy did not seem very interested in a bunch of middle-aged men demeaning themselves by crawling around on the ground.

Distractions aside, we were very glad to have FNG Tesla out. Tesla says that he was previously involved in regular cross-fit, but that he has fallen out of shape. There was a lot of planking and crawling around today, and those things are not easy even for the regulars. Tesla did a good job modifying and stopping when he had had enough. I look forward to seeing him grow stronger.

    Great job this morning, southsiders!

YHC learned a few new things today. #1 Gumbo is a BEAST on the blocking sled, #2 Wilson is a serious risk taker, #3 the wildlife simply is not impressed with our effort.

The Circle Burp was as brutal as YHC expected although Jville tried to convince me was had taken an accidental short cut. After a quick double check we were all clear and the mission was complete.

Gumbo’s extra credit run was an impressive way to start the morning, but still not as impressive as his tenacity hitting the blocking sled. All you high school football heroes need to give it a try next week.

You don’t have to live on the south side to attend.

    Great work men!

  • What is Dirty MacDeuce?

7 of the faithful explored the grounds of SOT on a damp morning of mid-60s and high humidity.  We waited around for a potential FNG lured by the F3 signage at the AO but the wet weather likely kept him away so we got right down to it.

    THANG

    NMS

Good to see Aisle 5 back out for his first post-BRR workout.  Well deserved time off after putting in the work for the BRR.  Per Corporate, now it’s time to start working toward next year.  Great to see Salad Cream back out again for the second time this week.  He tried Wilson’s long sleeves approach but it didn’t work as he had to shed a layer during the Macdeuce.  Looking forward to him being a regular at RiverRun since it’s right next door.  Mumblechatter about DK’s pool, YHC was out in week 2 and had little to contribute.

Not sure where the Dirty MacDeuce name came from or why 4 rounds of 3×12 equals Macdeuce but I think Jville brought it out to NoToll one day and it can make for some good work.  YHC was tired of the ladies and decided to bring someone else to the PAX.  A few laps around the bus loop to satisfy YHCs desire to run a little and not on the dark track (in case of clowns).  http://www.richmond.com/news/local/henrico/article_95715ef5-234a-55a9-9603-86393297963f.html

Good to see Trophy at SOT this morning, He and Gumbo were setting a blazing pace through the exercises. Also, we had lights for the first time since school ended!!! And of course, a couple of buses trying to get the morning started right with the smell of diesel.

A newly painted “racetrack” in the middle of the basketball courts added a nice change of pace in the middle of 4 Corners. If my memory is correct they split the defensive slide races, either way well ahead of YHC.

Looking forward to seeing the number’s rising again at SOT.

  • I Brought a Friend…Her Name is Lindsay

4 SOT regulars, including 3 recovering BRR beasts, gathered in the gloom and darkness at SOT.  This time there was no solitude.  This foursome got after the morning and this is how it went down:

Mosey 1 lap around the track and circle up in paved area behind the end-zone for COP

    COP – all IC

    • SSH x20
    • DQs (Abe Vigoda style) x10
    • Hill Billies X10 (Jville hop optional)
    • Arm Circles x15 (10 small, 5 large) – forward then backward
    • Merkins x10
    • LBCs x20

Mosey half-way around track to bleachers for first Lindsay – dips and muscle-ups

Mosey half-way around track to the other bleachers for second Lindsay – incline merkins and 2-count Freddie Mercuries

Mosey half-way around track to the bleachers for third Lindsay – box jumps (squats and step-ups used as alternative for sore BRR guys) and plank jacks.

Mosey back to COP area for extended Mary, including APDs, Flutter Kicks, Dolly, Rosalita, WWII situps, LBCs, Crunches with legs extended.

ROF x2 – first with merkins and second with werkins

Mosey back to the flag for COT and YHC took us out.

    Moleskin:

As promised, YHC brought a friend to SOT this week.  Her name was Lindsay.  YHC wanted to keep the running and movement to a minimum and give the arms, shoulders and abs a good workout.  YHC wanted to give the PAX its money’s worth, and I think everyone got what they paid for today.

The PAX pushed hard through the Lindsays.  Sorry to Wilson for the plank jacks – I’m sure that didn’t feel good on the toe.  Way to push through.

Also, a movement began this morning to identify curbs in the darkness by shouting “Goldberg”.  It remains to be seen if this sticks.

Thanks for letting me lead this morning gentlemen.  Always a pleasure

    Gumbo

  • Source of Truth, Darkness and Solitude…

    Hello….anyone out there?

As YHC approached the stop sign at Robious Road this morning faced with the decision to turn right and head to Swirly’s birthday bash or turn left and head to SOT to support the south-side crew, YHC’s brain was still catching up and the wrong decision was made.  It all became clear at 0530 when YHC stood in the SOT parking lot surrounded only by groggy bus drivers and noxious bus fumes…

Undeterred, YHC moseyed to track for an extended disclaimer and COP, followed by 4 1-mile intervals.  Run a mile as fast as possible (or at least as fast as the last one). At the conclusion, perform 5 COP exercises, each x20 and, of course, each In Cadence!  Repeato 4 times.

COP exercises included: merkins, derkins, dips, box jumps (of course), muscle ups, squats, LBCs, Freddie Mercuries, flutter kicks, scissors, hello dolly.

Numberama…1…Name-a-rama…Gumbo and YHC took himself out!

At least that is how I think it went down.

Good luck to all the BRR participants.  One foot in front of the other and I know you guys will kill it.  Raise a few glasses in celebration for those of us sticking around and holding the fort down!  Can’t wait to hear all about it.

  • Shuffle up and deal

At SOT recently the gloom is real.  We believe that due to construction work on the school the parking lot lights have been out all summer and was only noticed the last few weeks as it has gotten darker.  Hopefully they will be back on for the bus drivers when they start up next week.  4 SOT regulars found each other in the dark of the parking lot for a simple yet effective card playing beatdown.

    THANG:

Mosey into the light behind the school for COP.  SSH, Copperhead Squats, Arm Circles

Mosey to the basketball court for Blackjack.  Start at one side of the court, 20 merkins + 1LBC, run to the other for 19 merkins + 2 LBC…continue until 1 merkin + 20 LBC always with a sum of 21.

Move to the center of the basketball courts for a Deck of Death.  Number on the card and designated exercise for each suit.  Jack=11 to Ace=14

    • Hearts – Alabama Prom Dates
    • Diamonds – Crunchy Frogs
    • Spades – Mountain Climbers
    • Clubs – Monkey Humpers
    • Jokers – 15 burpees

Back to the shovel flag for Numberama and Namearama.  Gumbo took us out.

    NM

Great work today guys.  As Lugnut said, a lot accomplished by not moving very much and with the monkey humpers added it there was a nice effect of jello legs as we moved back to the flag.  Bobber continues to crush the workouts at SOT and is working his way toward signing up to Q soon, as encouraged by Lugnut.  YHC has been wanting to bring back Blackjack since Lugnut brought it out at SOT months back and when a deck of cards in a nice plastic case was found recently, it was only a matter of time to put those together.  The deck will stay in the car so it can be brought out at any time if needed.  The dreaded Jokers will stay in the deck as well.

It looks like after further study the RiverRun AO will stay in rotation.  Lugnut did some daylight recon and determined that there is plenty to do with tracks, playground equipment, hills and more that have not been tapped into with the run only AO.  Time to EH those southsiders.

Run and Barkley Marathons tonight at Hillcrest and TYA’s.  Come get your BRR swag.

    A pleasure to lead.

  • #SOT Bellies Up to a Ciabatta Buffet

Six of the faithful posted on dark Wednesday morning at #SOT. Johnsonville planted a SF and took the Q. This is how it went down, more or less:

30x SSH (starting very very slow and increasing in cadence to very very fast)
    12x Scap Merkins
    25x imperial walkers
    25x don quiotes

Native American run around bus loop

Ciabatta #1 — squats on bus loop
Ciabatta #2 — donkey kicks against brick wall
Ciabatta #3 — box cutters on basketball court
Ciabatta #4 — plank walks along lanes on basketball courts

Mosey around to newish main entrance (at rear of school)
Ciabatta #5 — box jumps on front steps (or wall around steps in some cases)
    Ciabatta #6 — bear crawl / crawl-bear

Mosey back to SF. COT (YHC with prayer)

I apologize for the late back blast. It has been a busy few days …

Since LugNut brought a run-centric SOT last week, I thought I would take this one to ground. I hope the PAX got its money’s worth. There was not much mumble chatter. The bear crawls fell at the very end of the workout — about the time we usually finish things off with Mary. I think people expected Mary there, which brought on deep gloom. In fact, we could not hear the start of the 2nd round of Ciabattas over the grunting and heavy breathing.

I really enjoy seeing the southside crowd on Wednesdays. Keep up the good work. Jville

YHC, aka co-War Daddy, wanted to get some running and speed work into today’s Q. Ever heard the phrase “be careful what you ask for, you just might get it”, YHC got it.

If someone wanted to test their speed training results YHC recommends not compare oneself to Rosie, Mini Me, Johnsonville, or Bobber. On the other hand if you are looking for inspiration and motivation YHC cannot think of a better Pax to share the gloom.

The bleacher run provided an additional level of difficulty running down the stairs. Evidently the lines in the stairs, along with a slightly different color, along with darkness, create an illusion of where to plant your foot. You had to be there to understand.

Great to have Mini Me visit SOT again, while doing the COP the pax was flagging down cars to pull into SOT. Low and behold a silver car slowed and pulled into the lot. The pax was a little surprised that our efforts had actually worked!

Bobber is incredibly close to his VQ. Can’t wait for that day.

    Great work men!

    COT with prayer by YHC

It was dark this morning at SOT. The County must be saving a few bucks these days by cutting power to parking lot floodlights. But, these men arose and were undaunted.

It was good catching up with Wilson, Aisle5, and Bobber this morning. YHC incorporated a bit of running this morning to help Wilson and Aisle5 prep for the BRR. We missed LugNut, who seems to have been FSing.

    Good work today, men. Jville
