  • My Legs Don’t Work

10 dudes, sporting 20 working legs and 2 failing legs, ran (or rode) into the “GLORIOUS” morning for the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures remained stable at precisely 70 and sunny. According to the same young lady running with her dog, the following disparate routes might have happened:

Sunday Funday often starts with a question: “What time does the 7 o’clock run start?” Yep, time to mosey.

The main pack did the Bridge (not THAT Bridge, but nonetheless a bridge) across to Buttermilk, then east to Belle Isle. Roll over the river. Back on The North Bank. 6.6 miles.

YHC turned tail prior to Belle Isle and, like the Three Wise Men of lore, returned home by another route, that being the service road along the railroad tracks.

Swiper swiped a route that started earlier and ended later.

    TYA rode around in circles.

Somewhere in France, Saab (not pictured) ran at least 10 miles on French roads.

Pita ran further on 4 legs than most of the PAX ran on 2.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

NMS: Discussion today centered on a key topic for many parents of juniors / seniors in high school: how to make the “right” college selection for each kid based on academic interests, acceptances, financing, and individual preferences. All the best to those facing such choices this week.

    Announcements:

Overnight 2nd Inaugural, Semi-Decennial Century Classic is Friday night starting at 6:00 p.m. Most teams will run until 9:30 / 10:00 a.m. Saturday, except Hutton’s team, which expects to finish prior to dawn Saturday.

The Bridge had a solid re-opening this weekend. Look for the Backblast from Corned Beef shortly.

Hermes has the Q at The Bridge on May 10. Let’s go!

  • Spring in Bloom

Three emerged at the strike of 7 and off we went on our respective run and ruck routes. Plenty of animals out early and the first of the flowers are in bloom. The sunrise around the river is spectacular!

  • Omega Route

5 started together, another on his own, and another on his own in the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the lady walking her dog down by the canal, the following might have happened.

Route (to keep from damaging trails): North Bank to the stairs. Up to the top. Reverso. Back down the hill, stairs, and slides…back across North Bank to the parking lot…up Love Hill…curl left around The Amphitheater…to the pull up bars…down the Pipeloop…across the road…across the bridge…hard right…to the end of the trail…reverso…back to the Pipeloop, pull up bars, Amphitheater, Love Hill, and the parking lot. That’s one. 3.5 miles.

YHC did just under 5 total. Other guys did 2 or 3 loops (TBD).

Anthrax did 14 miles in Forest Hill, but only the ones after daylight count.

Numbers, names, and there you have it.

  • All Carrot, No Stick

6 wabbits gathered together and another on his own for the latest edition of the run at Sunday Funday. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the super outgoing young lady who runs with her dog, the following might have happened:

    Three options:

10 miles with Saab on the roads…launch early to make Libbie Market

6-ish with Sippy Cup, Helix, and YHC…North Bank, Belle Isle Loop, and North Bank again.

Almost 7 with Anthrax, Shakedown, and Offshore…North Bank, Buttercrunch, and BTTVSF.

NMS: Today was a 24-carat experience. Great dudes, good chatter, and great weather.

YHC has been absent from Sunday Funday for a bit. It’s going to take a few weeks to work back into shape. Parts of today were a slog, but the dangling carrot of pork products, coffee, and biscuits at Libbie Market kept the motivation high.

Prayers to those whose homes and lives have been impacted by the fires in California.

Note: TYA has updated his office hours. In a pinch, he is available late evenings on Wednesday for shallow water swimming sessions. No advance booking is required.

  • New Faces on the Trail

YHC roped in a couple of FNGs (Friendly New Guys) for this morning’s trail run: one was fresh meat to the F3 workout crew, and the other, a transplant from Raleigh, NC, was new to the F3RVA scene. Six trailblazers, including three seasoned vets, kicked off their Sunday with a brisk morning run. The PAX tackled the Buttermilk/North Bank loop, crossing the legendary T. Pot Bridge for a total of 7 miles.

After a deep dive into the naming pool, the FNG new to F3 was christened EV (a nod to Eddie Vedder), while the Raleigh newbie was rebranded as Kashmir.

  • Sunday Fun-No-It-Was-An-Awful-Run

Six guys in groups of 1, or 5, or 1, set forth only to come back as groups of 1, 4, 1, and 2. Even if the math does work, these guys did. Temperatures held steady at 70 and sunny. According to the 3 people dudes running faster than YHC on the opposing loop, the following might have happened.

North bank, some did the flood wall, then south bank (Buttermilk), then home. Others did T-Pottersfield. At least one did Belle Isle. That guy ran terribly, but completed the loop. 6.5 or so.

Numbers, names, and everyone took off for coffee.

    Announcements:

10 Year is on Saturday. Who remembers what they were doing when F3RVA was founded?

NMS: YHC has been buzzing all over lately. BRR, some overseas travel, and then the wall might have hit temporarily Sunday morning. Weather was great. Company was great. YHC’s legs just didn’t want to do it. No matter – find a horse, and get back on it. Push yourself, don’t hurt yourself.

  • Sunday FUNday

Welcome to F3RVA, where breaking away from the status quo serves the F3 Mission, brings families together, creates momentum and space for FNG’s, and where we get to have a whole lot of fun together in the process!

The usual runners took off for BRR training while 23 ruck-loving F3 Dad’s, a gaggle of awesome kids, and a couple FNG’s hit the North Bank trail towards the city. The PAX stopped to count off a few times, stopped at about the 40min mark within sight of skyscrapers, snapped a group pic, and then reverso marched BTTVSF for a total of 3.3 miles in 90 minutes.

    COT:

    • Counterama # 30
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Below)
    • YHC took the PAX out in Prayer

    Prayer Requests:

    • Pool Boy’s 15 year old cousin getting scans for Melanoma
    • Offshore’s Dad passed away a couple weeks ago

NMS:  Awesome numbers out this morning and welcome to all our FNG dads and kids!  FNG NICK is a Poolboy’s friend and he’s gonna come out to Goyne Park soon to get nicknamed with those guys. FNG MATT is Rodeo Clown’s new neighbor and he’s excited about plugging in with the Midlo PAX. If there’s ever a question about whether changing things up at an AO might prove beneficial, remember today. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • This is a Running AO. Run It.

6 ran their tails off in the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures were 70 and sunny. According to the Chairperson of the VCO Data Science Department, the following exercises were pre-planned and might have happened.

North bank, Belle Isle, South Bank, Buttermilk, Bridge, Home. Roughly 6 miles. Six slogging miles of heavy, wet air.

Numbers, names, and we all went out.

Ellwood’s to celebrate. Good to have some other dudes join us.

NMS: Sunday Funday is a different sort of AO. Ten cuidado. 95% of the time, there is no Q. There is a very limited COT. Not one anyone would think of as a COT, but it’s there, if you know what to look for. If you sign up to Q it, you had better do it – and not half way, or a mile or two, or some other way, or make up some new thing and call it this thing. This is a running AO – if you can’t do it or don’t want to do it, don’t Q it. ‘Cause, it’s hard as it is. This PAX earns this. There are unspoken rules (like, don’t tell the PAX what to do, don’t wait for certain PAX, or don’t not wait for the other PAX). It’s intricate, it’s delicate, and it’s not to be trifled with. Surely, don’t show up to do something that’s not Sunday Funday. That’s very much not Sunday Funday. That’s some other thing. And, if someone wants to do that, then do that. But, don’t try to do this. It’s different. It’s not your average F3 workout. It’s different.

And, like this weekend, Ollivander is on these trails. He has a wicked sense of humor.

All else equal, it’s great to have Sippy and Offshore back on the trails. Our best to Offshore. Sorry to hear about your dad. The PAX send their best.

  • Please Don’t Ride Over Faceplant

Five runners hit the circle of vrroom today in the latest edition of Sunday Funday. Temperatures remained 70 and sunny. According to the lone rider intent on squishing Faceplant into the dirt, the following might have happened.

South bank (Buttermilk), T-Pottersfield, North Bank, BTTVSF. 1x loop for most of us (6.5 miles or so).

Anthrax x2 loops. If you start earlier, you get the trails to yourself, and you get to break all of the spider webs.

Numbers, names, and YHC took us out.

    Announcements:

Pickleball Tournament. This Saturday. 06:00 a.m. Forest Hill Park. Sign up in advance.

Rumor has it no Dogpile due to Pickleball. Need a confirmation from Bootleg.

August 21: My dad’s 100th Birthday. Come out and celebrate (and celebrate your own Dad). First Watch. 05:00.

The Bridge has re-started due to the commitment of 7 studs. The Bridge is a ministry-led educational program for men coming through, and we hope out of, the prison system. It’s in Buckingham, Va.

Each of the men below has agreed to organize others from his immediate workout area. Call this a nano-region or a micro-region or some other F3 nom de guerre of your choosing. It’s the guys you work out with regularly. These seven will organize you into a group to visit The Bridge twice a year. Simple enough.

    State Farm – Goyne Park
    Heist – Alamo
    Hardywood – Amelia
    Whitesnake – Gridiron
    Corned Beef – DaVille
    TYA – City Proper
    UpChuck – Tuckahoe

BTW, someone asked YHC, “Where are the other areas?” Great question. Candidly, if you don’t see your area represented, you can be the guy to lead, all you need to do is step forward. We can expand our investment almost limitlessly (up to 52 weeks/year). “F3’s mission is to reinvigorate male community leadership.” Here’s an opportunity to work with F3RVA’s finest on a mission to help other men. Let’s go!

    UpChuck spits the bit.
