  • Windy Sunday Morning

5 faithful posted for a Sunday morning jaunt around the James.

    The Thang:

Northbank, across T. Pottersfield, Buttermilk back to Pump House. 2 opted for an additional run around Forest Hill park.

    NMM

Beautiful morning for a run in November.  Temp was hovering around 60 degrees at the launch.  Temp dropped during the run, but only a few degrees.  By the time we ended it was mid fifties and still quite nice.  Only weather issue was the wind…it was quite breezy out there this morning.  Only place it really affected us was coming back over the Nickel Bridge.  When Saab and I returned, the wind was howling and it was hard to keep forward progress rolling.  Also beins (a tribute Circle K there) that we were at the end of the run, we were sweaty and the cold wind was really cold.

Ran into Hardwood and Flashdance on the trails this morning.  They were returning from a 3 mile run on the south side heading into Forest Hill.  Great to run into F3 brothers out there, and both were more than happy to see the PAX.

Today Saab was leading the way throughout followed by Lab Rat and Shakedown.  YHC and Wedding Singer were battling for the last spot in the line.  I think I was able to be slower than him on a majority of the run. Trails are nice and quiet in the winter/late fall.  We probably saw a dozen people this morning with only 1 or 2 other souls seen in Forest Hill.

Thx giving workout 6-7 on Thursday.  It is sure to be a beatdown and to be educational.

  • Merkins and C-Strings

An intrepid trio descended upon the pump house for what turned into an 11 mile run:  Buttermilk trail to Forrest Hill (counter clockwise).  Continue on Buttermilk to new-bridge, then return on north trail.

YHC could not think of a better way to spend this particular Sunday than on a long trail run followed by some good, wholesome, g-rated conversation with friends at ETs.  The day did not disappoint.  With each passing year it is important to continually expand one’s knowledge.  On this particular day YHC was educated on the various types of accoutrements used to strategically cover (or augment) one’s pubic-region…thus the name of today’s BB title.

  • Trails

7 pax for Sunday trails this morning.  The weather was iffy for the trails, but another runner informed us that the trail report was 2 thumbs up, so off we go.

Route:  Bummermilk to T. Potterfield bridge, return on North Bank.  7 miles in change.

NMS:  Comfortable temps and good trail conditions made for quick feet.  Run was great, and ET’s was better.  Caught up with Upchuck, who returned from Heaven’s Gate, one of the uninhabited Mechanicsville AO’s.  We started making fun of his “Starsky”….showing up to Coffeeteria dressed like he worked out, but he had photographic evidence of posting to the Atlee HS AO….a pic of the blue fields closed sign.  RESPECT.

    Have a great Sunday.

  • Rain or no rain, we run

5 runners could have used a better weather app and showed up for Sunday trails run.  The most surprising face was Rosie, who would have normally been at Off the Books….however it looks as though Honeymoon heard the pitter patter of the rain drops on the bedroom window and decided the old stink bag was better than getting nature’s shower.  No matter, the more the merrier!

Rainy Day route:  Over the bridge and down the hill to the access road.  Head over to Belle Isle, 6 milers do a loop and return the same way we came.  10 miler press on across to Tredegar, Down Canal walk to Mayo Bridge.  Take the Floodwall back to T Potterfield bridge, then back the way we came.

NMS:  Although I got an HC from Shakedown and Upchuck, and a soft commit from Saab yesterday, you never know what will happen when it rains….everybody knows my stance on wet trails, so I thought that might leave me solo.  My worries of a lonely run were dashed before even getting to the AO when I pulled up behind that beautiful green Land Rover….going slow, but luckily running under it’s own power.  Saab wanted to show off a little bit this morning, so he demonstrated his car alarm for the world to hear….Classy.  After setting off the car alarm, he couldnt get the interior lights to turn off.  That seems about par for the course.  We waited for a minute, then had to leave him to troubleshoot alone knowing that he had the ability to catch up.  Turns out he left the back door open.  Oh Saab!

The rain for the most part held off and let us have a for the most part an enjoyable run.  Everybody was a bit banged up from the week’s workouts and the end of the monthly running challenge I think.  Upchuck and Rosie opted for the 10K route, and were waiting for the rest of us in the parking lot.  Unfortunately, I had a commitment to family church time, so had to bolt against Upchuck’s siren song of bailing on the family to hang out over coffee and muffins.  Maybe next week…

  • Who did we agree was Q?

Three dudes in white long sleeved shirts and one other guy with a brain in his head toed the line at the Pump House this morning for trails:

    Route:

-Regular: Buttermilk to Forest Hill and back.  Roughly 7 miles.

-Insane:  Keep running until noon.  2 Full monty loops.  20 miles, give or take.

    NMS:

Saab and Lab Rat had an enjoyable run, once they got clear of TYA, who kept yelling that Lab Rat was talking.  Well yeah….he and Saab were having a pleasant conversation!  The regular run was great this morning, just a stunning morning to be out.

TYA and Swirly reportedly had a great run as well, even though both took a fall during the day.  They also got tied up in the bike portion of the King of the James event happening on the trails yesterday.  All’s well that ends well, as two healthy young men came out the other side.

  • Sippy Cup Friendly

Four studs posted on a Sunday morning.

Across the bridge, Buttermilk to T. Pottersfield to North Bank and back to the parking lot.  7 miles covered by the PAX

    NMM:

Pulled into the parking lot this morning and who did I see.  Sippy Cup.  Yep, this is only the second time that Sippy has posted for a Sunday morning trail run.  The last time was more than two years ago.  Great to have Sippy out there.  Speaking of pulling into the parking lot when I was coming down the hill I spotted Saab’s RR in front of me.  In a move that would have made Bleeder proud,  I pulled to the left, passed Saab and took a right turn into the parking lot just ahead of him.   Saab was also back on the trails for the first time in a while and the second time in the last four months.  I know he was happy to be out there…we were certainly happy to have him back in the running PAX.  Shakedown continues to lay the miles down…he stayed with Sippy for the first half and then Sippy had to make an appointment so left Shakedown in the dust…..

  • A midsummer run in October

5 studs and YHC posted on a sticky Sunday morning for a trail run.

    The Thang:

Northside to T. Pottersfield to Buttermilk and back.

    NMM

2 Pax, Hardywood and Upchuck took the actual route today (I think).  YHC was hurting after the first mile and opted for a straight cross off Belle Isle instead of T. Pottersfield.  The other PAX opted to take a loop up to the war memorial and then back to the route.  Not sure why they visited war memorial, but at least two of the PAX members hated the addition.

Swallow got bit by a bee on the way back. Although he is luckily not allergic, the bee sting still had affects and he limped back to the parking lot.  Hardywood and Upchuck were doing the 1 minute walk, 3 minute run technique.  YHC opted for walk up hill and run down and flat for the final 5 miles.  Either way, it was crazily humid out there today.  Felt like a mid August run only this was mid October.

  • 2 Pauls and 1 not-so-Paul

3 pax shook off the cobwebs of yesterday’s convergence and overall taxing week to test out this new weather….50 degrees at start time!  Welcome to Fall (finally).  Here is what transpired:

Route: Buttermilk to Belle Isle, take the down river trail around to the pedestrian bridge and back on North Bank.  Classic route, with the Garmin variability putting the pax somewhere between 6 3/4 and 6 7/8 miles.

    NMS:

A stunning morning for a trail run had the Pauls confused about what to wear….both had long sleeve shirts on.  Lab Rat got the closest by wearing 1 standard t-shirt, but the right call was to go sans shirt (obviously).

The cooler temps really brought the scenery out, and several dear (yes, that’s spelled correctly) were spotted this morning.  TYA claims that one of the said dear did a double take in the direction of Lab Rat, but YHC thinks it was probably due to Lab Rat wearing sandals, so the dear thought she was getting a glimpse of renowned trail heart-throb, Patton Gleason.  She was surely disapointed to find it was just some schlub with cool shoes.

Mumblechatter was heavy on the convergence yesterday (I think that happened, but havent seen the bb yet), but sprinkled in with other usual topics that included what body part is hurting this week and upcoming races.  Just the two of us at ET’s for a quick bite and coffee, but we made the most of it.

Since this is the first non-Tuckahoe bb in quite some time, let me just say that the Tuckahoe guys absolutely crushed it this week!  This was a whole new level in takeovers, what with the uniforms and choreographed Q’s.  The takeover of the podcast was an awesome grand finale that was pulled off with impeccable timing.  Well done to all.

Apology of the week goes to Bleeder of all people…..sorry for making fun of your red shorts! #sorrynotsorry

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Feels like the BRR again

Three pax took to the trails on another beautiful morning. 65 degrees and sunny. We did:

Northbank to Belle Isle to Buttermilk. Gomer Pyle added the Potterfield bridge.

NMS- Strong pace this morning, did the loop in 75 min give or take, no surprise as all 3 pax are West Enders. YHC had BRR flashbacks of chasing Gomer Pyle as he set the pace, hence the BB title. YHC got to chat with Best Shot as well. Sounds like he is in for the Bel Monte.

Unusual to be at trail run with no Lab Rat or TYA as they were finishing up their last hour of the Powhatan race. Sounds like all 3 of them crushed it, as if there was any doubt.

  • Quiet Trails

2 runners posted for a Sunday trail run.

    The Thang:

Buttermilk to Belle Isle to North bank and back to parking lot.

    NMM

Exceptional to have Saab back on the trails.  It has been a couple months, at least since Saab has been spotted running on the trails around RVA.  He has been missed.  Conversation was Lab Rat friendly today, but only two pax were there, so Lab Rat did not get to partake.

Overall, the trails were pretty quiet today.  More bikers than normal, but a lot less runner.  See you out there soon.
