  • Doublin’ down on that hill

It was a hot and humid morning but 16 HIMS were up for the challenge. I had this workout planned for several weeks and then Crabgrass decides last week to do it but I like the pain so why not do it again? Mosey across the way and circled up for some warm up exercises including SSH, Jazzercise (after being complimented by Nancy last week for good form), cherry pickers, LBCs, and merkins.

Thing 1: partnered up for 100 reps of squats and merkins alternating exercises after 10 reps, then a run to the next intersection. This was repeated again and a bear crawl was thrown in there because, why not? Run to the next intersection. Same concept but switched to LBCs and Alabama prom dates. Run to the next intersection, repeat, and then one last run.

Thing 2: Mosey through the neighborhood stopping for a circle up with SSH and some burpees, then more mosey with a sprint thrown in there. Finally we arrived at the hill. Triple Check with flutter kicks, monkey humpers, and a run up the brutal hill. Not much time left after this so a slow mosey to mosey back to the flag for a couple minutes of plank until time expired.

    Circled up, numbers, and names.

Announcements: Home grown half in August, mini CSAUP in September, the bridge next week, Spartan in October. All others please check slack. Prayers out for Wildcat’s quarterly scans tomorrow, Futon’s family, and Matlock’s trial at work this week. Great work out there this morning grinding it out with the run heavy boot camp. Each time I lead my cadence improves. Pleasure to lead you guys. Each time it gets easier. Hope everyone has a great week!

  • Back to the hill

YHC has a little nasty hill he likes, but I save it for special occasions (i.e. Nightmare Before Christmas) and today was a good day to revisit…not too hot, not too cold. Futon pointed out that the clouds were parted with a little bit of sunshine coming through above the hill, it was destiny today.

Quick mosey through the bunker, up the stairs (watch out for mud) and we did a series of butt kickers > high knees > karaoke rotating at each mailbox. Quick stretch sess and we hit firecracker alley 1>2>3>4>5>4>3>2>1 at mailboxes. oh hey looks, there’s a hill.

    11’s (Chase the Hare Version)
Swoop was randomly selected to be the hare. Rules are simple – once the Hare completes his 11’s, everyone is done. If any PAX member beats him, Swoop pays a penalty. If Swoop beats everyone, the PAX pays a penalty. Lt Dans at the top of the hill, planks at the bottom (21 seconds first round, 22 sec, 23 sec…). Swoop ran valiantly only losing to Wildcat, so the PAX paid the penalty – two burpees each.

Warby wondered where the trail went so we did an Indian run to show him. PAX members were dropping like flies so we turned it into a slow mosey back to the start of firecracker alley. Did butt kickers > high knees > karaoke back to the playground.

Four Corners on The Dukes block. It’s a big block. Someone tried to make a last minute rule that if you cant see the next corner then you can’t do four corners. YHC vetoed, lets go. 10 J’Lo’s, 20 V sit ups, 30 donkey clappers, 40 mountain climbers. BTTF for a ring of fire. PAX clocked 2.6 miles today, not too shabby!

Numbers, names, announcements, prayers. Prayers for Futons family and those impacted by the storms in TX.

  • Prepare for Glory!

19 Spartans converged on the Alamo this humid morning to start their week off right. 6 gents were bamboozled into schlepping sandbags from Crabbs house to the flag, extra credit boys!! Thank you to Rudy for giving up the Q so YHC could lead his 300th post. Lets go!!

5:30, not a second late, the PAX went for a mosey down through the tunnel and back to the flag. Mission statement, 5 core principles. SSH, Don Quixotes, Cherry pickers, LBCs, scorpion kicks.

First battle: 6 exercises, 2 rounds 25 reps = 300. Merkins, jump squats, WW2s, heals to heaven, Crab cakes, Plank jacks.

Second battle: Partner up at the end of the parking lot. Partner 1 picked up a sand bag or 2 cindys and walked roughly 300 yards while the partner performed 300 high knees. Instructions were to walk, but a handful of Spartans decided to run. Men among men!!! Switch and continue.

Third battle: Partner up at the parking lot entrance. Partner 1 ran up to the top of the hill and back while other partner did SSHs. 300 count.

Fourth battle: Circle up for a combined, you guessed it 300 Navy Seal burpees. Ended with 2 min of stretching and 2 min of plank.

    Numbers, names, announcements, PR, COT.

Please keep Mr. Bradys daughter and Fandangos son in your prayers.

Thank you each and every one of you who has ever pushed me to not take a lazy day, to come out and post, to push, to challenge. This group is more than just a workout group, its a brotherhood of positive momentum! Love you gents!! Thanks Crabby for assisting with the set up.

Always an honor to lead you men.

  • Le Dukes VQ – High Heart Rates, Lots of PAX, More Burbees than expected

On humid morning 20 men rolled out of bed to The Alamo for an exciting beat down. Any indulgences from the weekend would be quickly quelled with the workout to come. The Q was more nervous than he was in high school when the girl up the street invited him over to “chill and watch One Tree Hill” while her parents were out of town. He would definitely see more action today than in the past. F3 is about leadership and stepping out of your comfort zone and accepting the honor of leading others.

The Duke led them on a mosey and then warmup that involved side straddle hopes, imperial walkers, some stretches and leaning into multiple people’s moms and wives. From there the main set began. Four corners around the alamo parking lot prostitute style. Corner 1 Toe Taps (10 Count), Corner 2 Burpees (20 Count), Corner 3 LBC’s (30 Count), Corner 4 Squats (40 Count). The PAX complained but never wavered in their pursuit of completing every rep.

The 20 Men persevered and pushed through the workout. To quote President Calvin Coolidge “Persistence nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The Slogan ‘Press on’ has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.” Through the burpees, and sweat the PAX did just that and “Pressed on” in the face of adversity.

With time remaining the PAX did their best Novak Djokovic (the GOAT) impression and had some additional strain on the tennis court. Partnering up for some bear crawls into partner shoulder taps, Crab walks into linked WWIIs and finally lunges into Mike Tysons. Punches were thrown but none were landed.

The workout ended with a ring of fire core burn out and some broga to release the lactic acid tightening up the muscles. COT: 3 more VQs for the SOJ boys this week. Convergence on the horizon for the 4th of July holiday.

After 2 months of posting, it was an honor to lead the men of F3 this morning. It is both and honor and a challenge that is worth pursuing. Consistency is key and there is always room for improvement as a leader. The Duke cannot wait to hit up the Q sheet again and get creative.

  • “Dad(s)…Do you want to have a catch?” – Field of Screams …er… Dreams.

‘Twas the day after Father’s Day, when all through the town, F3 men and dads rose with a groan, not making a sound. Their bellies were full of sinful libations and feasts from last night. Yet their movie spirits were high, ready to fight.

In sneakers and t-shirts, they converged on the Rountrey parking lot “gym”, each man with a grin though their eyes were quite dim. From burgers and brews, and gifts wrapped with care. They’d celebrated well, now it was time to REPAIR.

Fandango led them on a mosey and then a warmup that involved side-straddle hops, dead man hang, cherry pickers, copperhead squats, and imperial walkers. From there, we went on a movie tour of Clark Griswold “Light Burpees” and the Frequency of how many there were. We made our way to the Field of Dreams and had an Adora style catch with each other, once the ball dropped, partners completed 2 burpees at home plate and then went to 1st base to complete 100 WW2, 2nd base to complete 200 squats, 3rd base to complete 300 merkins, and home plate (which no one got to) for 400 side-straddle hops. From there, we jogged back for a Triple Check “Godfather style” – The Michael = plank, The Fredo = run to stop sign, & The Sonny = 10 Firecrackers +10 Side Straddle Hops.

We ended with our COT and the naming of 3 new FNGs: Snook, Rooney, and Gotham. Prayers for Futon’s mother in law, Boberry’s friend and family, and for ALL the Dads out there!

By the end, they were sweaty, but beaming with pride, For they’d honored their title, with no need to hide. From diaper disasters to teenage debates, These dads showed up strong, carrying life’s heavy weights.

‘Twas the day after Father’s Day, and they proved it so well, being a dad’s about heart, not just stories to tell. So here’s to the dads, who lift more than steel, with love and grit, … they make fatherhood real.

  • Gauntlet 3.0

During the CSAUP, Alamo got pooped on for “just being a parking lot” so I was set on showing that Alamo has a softer, gentler, more delicate side once you really get to know it. Today the pax got to experience the tranquil embrace of nature as we made our way to the serene views of the reservoir…

And were met with two piles of coupons to remind us that our @$$ was Grass today!

Nancy reminded YHC we start at 5:30 but I didn’t want to leave the downrange (and 12 year F3 Veteran, Guinness) in the dust. 20 HIMs moseyed down to Heist’s favorite hill for a quick warm-up. Mumble chatter knew YHC had something planned, they just wondered where it was. Down the hill and over the bridge to the path by the reservoir we went!

Gauntlet – two stations with 5 exercises were strategically set up in the wee hours of the morning. 3 burpees entrance fee, complete 10x of the 5 exercises, run to the second station, 3 burpees entrance fee, complete 10x of the 5 exercises. And around and around we go for ~30 minutes.

    Station 1
    Banded Deadlifts
    Skullcrushers
    Lateral Sandbag Lunges
    Banded Overhead Press
    Front Raise with block

    Station 2
    Banded Merkins
    Firecrackers
    Sandbag Squat Thrusters
    Mountain Climbers
    Curls with Block

Pax members were gracious to help move coupons to the street for easy pickup, and we ran back up that lovely hill to the flag. 6 is in, numbers, names, announcements, prayers. Was cool to see two FNG’s come out and an F3 veteran join us downrange from Charlotte. this was the third gauntlet I’ve done, first at Alamo, and each time the Pax walks away with smiles on their faces. I think it’s a keeper

  • Ripping off the Band-Aid

On this clear and cool morning, 18 men came out to support YHC on his VQ. Ten weeks ago, I came out to the Alamo after seeing a Facebook post and haven’t looked back. I’m grateful for the motivation and support offered by the PAX, so it seemed only right to try and give a little something back.

After a brief mosey, we warmed up with some SSHs, Arm Circles, Cherry Pickers, Side Shuffles, Karaokes, and Ukrainian Soldiers. Then it was down to business . . .

    Round 1:

    15 Walkout Merkins > Run > 30 Squats > Run > 45 LBCs > Run back to start

    Round 2:

15 Mike Tysons > Run > 30 Lateral Lunges > Run > 45 American Hammers > Run back to start

    Round 3:

15 Diamond Merkins > Run > 30 Reverse Lunges > Run > 45 Under Knee Touches > Run back to start

    Round 4:

    15 Merkins > Run > 30Lunges > Run > 45 Freddie Mercurys > Run back to start

Next, we headed to the tennis court to partner up for some Rock-Paper-Scissors. After bear crawling to your partner, the PAX played Rock-Paper-Scissors with the loser completing 5 Burpees while their partner did SSHs. Once complete, it was Crawl Bear back to opposite sides of the court. This was repeated, with varying consequences for winning and losing, for four rounds. Rudy and Heist needed a tiebreaker round, so the PAX chose a player to back with the losers completing 10 Burpees.

I’m a big fan of the Paul Petzoldt quote, “Plans are crucial, and plans are crap.” And this, dear reader, is when YHC realized his plan was crap. With ten minutes remaining, I did not have enough planned (classic rookie mistake). After some Broga, there was still time on the clock and the PAX would not be shorted. Shout out to Nancy for calling for a Ring of Fire and to the PAX for getting us to the finish with some ab work.

Then it was numbers, names, and Announcements (Boys of Summer and Summer Tour continue). Prayer requests for Fandango’s father who was recently diagnosed with a hole in his heart and Bobsled’s family as he looks for a new opportunity to relocate to Florida.

I want to thank Warby for hyping up my VQ, Heist and Crabgrass for reaching out and offering help beforehand, and to everyone who came out.

  • Iron manito

Been awhile since I led the merry men of the Alamo, so I put together a little something special about five minutes before blast off.

5:30. Let’s go! Warmed up in the thunder dome after providing the official F3 mission statement, creedo and various warning labels. Warmup included squats, various stretches, and introduction of the “superman swim”.

COP 1: Jog as a group to the bottom of Endstone Trail. We basically did an overly complicated iron man themed Jacob’s ladder. Run all the way up hill to mailbox #1 where 1 merkin was performed, followed by 10 Freddie Mercury’s (cycling). Run back to base of hill for 10 squats and 10 superman swims. Repeato to mailbox #2, add an extra merkin, etc. Each set, runs get shorter, but merkins go up. Finish with 7 merkins, 10 FM

Native American run towards Litton and Endstone Trail for two rounds of the triangle of death (almost another geometric shape).
    1. Lunge towards corner 1, perform 10 reverse lunge each leg.
    2. Bearcrawl to corner 2, 10 merkins.
    3. Side shuffle to corner 3, 10 bigboy situps.

    20 count.

Group jog up Litton where we did mailbox burpees, increasing by 1, hitting 5 burpees, working down to 1 as we reached Graythorne.

And now a word from our paid sponsor: Tiesworth Family Dentistry:

Tired of feeling like royalty without the bling to match? Swing by Dr. Dan “Hermey” Tiesworth’s office, where smiles are polished, and peasants become kings—one crown at a time. Today at 4:30 p.m., our very own Heist will be ascending the throne of dental glory, courtesy of Hermey’s steady hands and uncanny resemblance to that elf who really wanted to be a dentist. Come for the crown, stay for the charm—and maybe a lollipop if you’re good.

Anyway – after the brief add, we formed two groups for a final Native American run to culdesac at GrayThorne and Rankin.

BTTF for a big beautiful round of stretching.

Announcements: Memorial day convergence. Alamo has two clown cars so far. Big Herm and Futon celebrating six and two years with F3, respectively.

YHC took us out in prayer.

  • The Self Named FNG

What a great morning in the gloom today! Weather was perfect, 15 deep PAX, an FNG that found us via Mens Alliance group and we kicked off the Week of Warby.

After a nice jog to through the tunnel and back to the parking lot was the warmarama. Mission statement, 5 pillars and disclaimers. Imperial walkers, DMH, SSH, and a handful of wife stretches.

COP 1,2 & 3: The pyramid. 10 burpees, 20 merkins, 30 WW2, 40 squats, 50 mountain climbers(double count), 40 SSH, 30 reverse lunges, 20 plank jax, 10 Carolina dry docks. After each pyramid, the PAX ran up to the entrance stop sign and back.

COP 4: 2/3’s of a triple check. We used the stage from the Rountrey 5k for dips and the ground for windshield wipers as the timer ran up to the entrance stop sign. Closed out with a plank until time.

Numbers, names, announcements, PR, wins. Prayers for Moses and POTUS for a speedy recovery. From the Bridge, Buckets to continue to rite his own ship, keep pushing brother! Flyboys neighbor Leann is home from the hospital.

Great to have our newest member Bru. From South Africa, dad of 3 and is NOT a firefighter. After much discussion his F3 name, he tossed out Bru and the PAX agreed.

Always a pleasure leading you gents! Lets keep it rolling!

  • The wetness.

14 grown-boys ran around in the rain this morning at The Alamo! here’s what went down…

WARMARAMA – Moseyed to the other side of the horseshoe. Gave the F3 Mission, made some promises about keeping the PAX as dry as possible and got into stretches.

COP #1 – Moseyed to the Tunnel of Love to stay dry and knock out (5) burpees. Moseyed up the hill, around the corner and made our way to the other RounTrey entrance. The PAX finished the journey out by performing various runs (run, cherokee, bernie) until we reached the playground at the far end of RounTrey.

    COP #2 – “Rudy’s Playground”

    • 2 at a time, each PAX member ripped out (5) chin ups on the monkey bars while the PAX grabbed some curb and shuffled around the playground. Repeated (2) times.
    • In cadence, the PAX then performed (10) Incline and (10) Decline merkins on the curb.

COP #3 – Moseyed back to the Tunnel of Love (repeated the various runs on the way) for (5) more Burpees. Happy Birthday, Maddox! Love you, Kid!

    COP #4 – BLIMPS

    • As promised, the PAX did their best to stay dry. Bear crawls in, burpees out.
    • B – Bear Crawl to the mailbox.
    • L – (5) Lunges, Double Count
    • I – (5) Imperial Walkers, Double Count
    • M – (5) Merkins
