  • You wanna sit on Santa’s lap?

Only 3 months till Christmas! Our own version of Santa showed up today — the Mudface beard is strong.

Father Christmas (best Christmas song ever) — plank for the instrumental parts, verses are mountain climbers, chorus is merkins, bridge is AST’s

COP — a few exercises including Helicopters and other stuff I don’t remember right now

    Reindeer Games
Dasher Dancer — Dancer runs sprints, while the Dancer does hillbillies (repeato 3x)

Prancer Vixen – Prancer skips or leaps around the basketball court, Vixen does APD’s — repeato 3x

Comet Cupid — Comet lunges up to the school Cupid does pull ups

Donder Blitzen — Donder means thunder, so he does merkins. Blitzen is bear crawling up to the school

Rudolph run — like a native american run, but with reindeer.

A couple stretches at the end.

    Names, Numbers, Announcements

NMS — YHC loves a good themed workout. Watching Yardsale prance around was priceless. Always a good time at the creek with meaningful deep conversations 😉

    Peace

    Opus

  • Inaugural Daville 35

12 Davillians (11 + 1 honorary member) verged on the grounds of the Rutland clubhouse parking lot for a great alternative to the Colonial 70.

    This how it when down

Setup: 4 teams arrived at the parking lot at 4:30am, setup camp, warmed up, and got instructions from YHC on the 35 mile race.

    THANG

There were 4 teams of 3 runners. Each runner would completed two loops (6.2 miles & 5.5 miles) in a relay style race.

    Routes

Loop #1 – 6.2 miles (10K) took the runners over the fly over to service road around and behind Atlee HS. Then into Honey Meadows and around the trail. Finally back the same way then around the Bojangles loop

Loop #2 – 5.5 miles took the runners around the Rutland Neighborhood into Knollwood for a loop and a hill. Out of Knollwood into Cool Spring West for a loop around that trail. Out and back to Rutland passing the parking lot to the Bojangles loop

    MOLESKIN

What a great CSAUP!! The PAX crushed their projected times with every team finishing in less than 5 hours. Team Trailblazers lead the way after time penalty was add to another team (more that later). Here were the results

    • Team Trailblazers (Marco Polo, Pavarotti, Helix) – 4:45:10
    • Team The Rat Pack (Faceplant, Corned Beef, Trout) – 4:46:20
    • Team United Nations (The Carpenter, Spit, Bulkhead) – 4:46:35
    • Team Alpha Omega (Sludge, Opus, Glide) – 4:57:20

The Rat Pack had to take a unfortunate time penalty since Corned Beef didn’t take the correct turn on his 2nd run.

    A few highlights:

    • Faceplant to the title for the fastest 10k with a 44:25
    • Several PAX set PR’s on their 10k including YHC (47:34)
    • Thanks to Luggie who was our runner support on bike
    • “The Returners” (last year’s Colonial team) show what they learned from last year by prepping wiser.
    • The whole race felt like a competition with all team at one point within 5 minutes of each other and three time finishing within a minute and half.

Final Thoughts – This was fun, challenging, and up lifting. The PAX is already looking forward to do it again soon!

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Non-runners only, please

3 men showed up to ‘run’ around and workout on a rainy Friday morning.

    The Thang

Slowsey to blacktop for COP, SSH, helicopters, DQ, LBC’s, Imperial walkers. Slowsey to parking lot for 4 corners. YHC stole this version from Gypsy. Start in middle of parking lot, 10 SSH, run to first corner of lot, 40 calf raises, return to middle for another 10 SSH, second corner – 40 sumo squats, third corner – 40 toe taps, fourth corner-40 flutter kicks.

Mosey to middle of school, partner up, nobody wanted to be Mudface’s partner so he went solo. Switch off between teams, first team lunges while second team completes exercise then runs to catch first team, switch off until both teams complete all exercises. These were 20 each of American hammers, LBC’s, merkins, boxcutters, and Superman.

Slowsey to flag, do an exercise then run to and from where buses were parked, next exercise. These were 20 each of Alabama prom dates, shoulder taps, split jacks and Bobbie Hurleys.

Numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Much of the Daville PAX is competing in the Colonial 70 run tomorrow, so many of The Creeks usual suspects were resting up, and those in attendance enjoyed the slower paced workout. Mudface introduced a different, harder version of flutter kicks and named them, but YHC is hesitant to put that name on a backblast. Just ask Mudface. Was great to catch up with these two, and all stuck around for 20 minutes discussing our wish that people on different sides of the political spectrum would more often engage in civil discussion of issues, instead of insulting each other. That being said, Yardsale’s version of Alabama prom dates is still pretty disturbing, but YHC said this to him in a civil manner! Kidding aside, was great to have exactly that kind of discussion, would be interesting to do at a 2nd F gathering.

Thanks for letting me lead, as usual I have No Idea what I’m doing…

  • Dont back dat a$$ up

While waiting for everyone to gather for the morning beatdown Yardsale came flying in on two wheels and proceeded to BACK into a parking space which put Opus’s blood pressure through the roof. He’s got some strong feelings about back in parking and was so fired up he started the hot patato with the COP which I dont remember any of the exercises. He then went into a triple check of donkey kicks, lunges, and something else but cant remember, maybe heals to heaven? He then passed it to mr. Holland who had use job over to the parking lot and do suicides on the parking lot stripes, 1st station we did merkins (10), 2nd we did american hammers (20), and the 3rd burpes (25), did this 3 times and increased reps.. then it was passed to Yardsale, who tolds us to partner up and did a combination of balls to the wall and touch 6 trees, however, the most disturbing part of his explanation was this ass backing shaking movement that would probably be banned on Netflix which should tell you how disturbing it was to witness. Then mudface ran the fastest I have ever seen this man run back to the play ground, again triple checked with fat boy pull ups, regular boy pull ups and run and touch the school was the 3rd. Did that 2 times and time ran out. Ran back to the parking lot, numbered around, announcements, and Opus let us out… great time this morning fellas..learned a lot…Trout

    • Mr. Holland nailed it this morning as we were wrapping up and the sunrise was painted above our heads….
You wont get that inside a gym
Well said sir.. the natural beauty of this morning’s sunrise is something only the Great Sky Q could paint for us. YHC likes to consider those wonderful acts of nature as a gentle reminder from him to us that he is: all powerful, all loving, and all forgiving.
    • Next 3rd F virtual meet-up is 9/1 at 8pm. See slack 3rd F channel for Zoom meeting URL.

    2nd F: (Fellowship)
Lots of opportunities in RVA for fellowship and just like the 1st F in the morning.. you just have to show up.

    • Friday HH is moving around the region and it does not always have to mean having drinks. Top Golf, new Restaurants, chips and salsa at Honeydo’s (Hint Hint), etc. lets keep them moving around so all pax have an opportunity to join in. This week it is at Ardent Craft Beer at 6ish.
      • Next week we are moving the show out to Midlothian with Florence to try out Steam Bell Beer Works
    • YHC is working with Disaster Ops to set up a trip down to the Gulf coast for helping our F3 PAX in that region that have been crushed by the recent hurricane. DM me if you are interested in going.
    • October 3rd is the Fellowship retreat. Sign up for the Cornhole tournament

    • Burn Out: Nonstop workout rotating who the timer pax is
      • Each location is assigned an exercise then one pax takes that position. One pax runs to a designated location and back (the timer) as the remaining pax continues to do the exercise at his location until the timer returns; then everyone moves down one exercise position.
We had 4 pax this morning so we had 3 assigned exercises and 1 timer.
        • Exercises:
Station 1 Plank (Hold in high plank until timer returns)
Station 2 Donkey kicks to the wall.
Station 3 People’s chair air presses.
          Station 4 was the timer.
      • Rinse and repeat.
    • Return to the AO for a cool down:
      • you cool down like you warm up. One round of BLIMPS.

    MoleSkin:
1st and foremost, thank you to the men this morning for allowing me the opportunity to lead. I look forward to seeing you all in the gloom again very soon.
Lots of good mubblechatter this morning. I am pretty sure we have convivence Mudface to sign up for the 1/2 marathon beer tour. Need the Da-Ville guys to keep on him for that. 🙂
Best of luck to Mr. Holland as he not only takes on the adventure of being a teacher during this new learning environment. but also having two 2.0’s of his own at home that are also going through this from a student perspective. If you need to get away for coffee or lunch or to hide.. just give me a call and I will be on my way.
Cornbeef is laying down the gauntlet this morning with regard to the upcoming team relay race. Sounds like his team is stacked and I might just have to put a wager on them taking the 1st place position on this one.

    NMS (Naked Moleskin)
AS always, I challenge every pax member that has taken the time to read this far down the Backblast to spend the next 30 seconds texting an F3 pax you have not heard from in a while. Reaching out to someone for no reason is hard to do…but we are F3.. we do hard things every day. So just do it. It may be the quick hello your gloom buddy needed for the week.

Next Challenge: Look at your F3 actions in the last 30 to 60 days. Have you signed up to Q? Why not? Have you come out to a 2nd or 3rd F event? Why not? The reasons and excuses are just as vast as that sad clown you had to convince to get out of the fartsack and post in the gloom (no time, not ready to lead, I get my fellowship somewhere else, etc…).
F3 is a fellowship of men .. leaders leading and teaching peer leaders.
Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership. Our mission is not to be the fastest, most fit, strongest guy out there in the gloom… Don’t fall into the trap of making F3 only about the 1st F.. there are 2 more F’s to explore and for that matter that you can bring FNGs to. There is no F3 rule that says your FNG has to post 1st to a bootcamp. Bring him out to a 2nd F.. or invite him to the virtual 3rd. The workout is just 1 aspect of the thing we call F3.

  • Edward Brickyhands and the minishubbleflag

    How it went down:

Q rolled up to find Mudface all alone.

Mini-shovel/Mini-Flag planted and red bricks stationed around it as Yardsale and Trout rolled in.

Mosey around inner court of school.

Circle of Pain:     SSH x 10 (4 count)

Arm Circles 10 big, 5 small

                                  Reverso

                                  LBCs x 20 (4 count)

                                  Merkins 20 (4 count)

                                  American Hammers 20 (4 count)

Merkins 15 (single count from here on)

                                  American Hammers 15

                                  Merkins 10

                                  American Hammers 10

                                  Merkins 5

                                  American Hammers 5

                                  Merkins 10

                                  American Hammers 10

                                  Merkins 15

                                  American Hammers 15

                                  Merkins 20

                                  American Hammers 20

Mosey to mini shovel flag, grab two red bricks, one for each hand…at this point bricks had to stay in your hand.  If dropped at all, then someone had to yell, “Charlie Brown, you Blockhead!” and corporate punishment with 10 push-ups for each offense.

    Mosey to track

20 Air squats with bricks held way out front

                                  1 lap around track

20 Air squats with bricks held way out front

                                  1 lap around track

20 Air squats with bricks held close front

                                  1 lap around track

Mosey to monkey bars, partner up, one person holds others bricks while each partner gets in bar rows (old man pull-ups, whatever you call them.)

Mosey to field (everyone still hadn’t dropped a brick yet)

40 yard bear crawl with bricks in hands

40 yard crab walk backwards with bricks in hands

20 x SSH with bricks in hands

                                  5 yard brick bear crawl

5 yard brick crab walk backwards

10 x SSH with bricks in hands

At this point Mudface decided to punish all of us and so he PURPOSEFULLY dropped his bricks, “Charlie Brown, you Blockhead!!”  10 x Merkins

Mosey to minishovelflag. Name-a-rama, Number-rama,  Annoucements:  Mudface informed Yardsale and Trout what Circus Maximus is and that he plans to attend soon, trying to get all to attend.

    Q took it out.

All seemed to be in good spirits, Yardsale talking collegiate sports (anyone surprised?), Trout flexing on the Q as he walked out his car, rolling up and putting his shirt on in order to not intimidate us too badly and Mudface looking like a happy Garden Gnome today instead of an angry one!

    –Rounders

  • Gettin fat up north

Q thought it was going to be another solo work but Yardsale took his time finishing up his morning oats and taking out the trash and decided to come in 5 minutes late.

This is how it went down…ran around the parking lot, arm circles, LBC, some other things.

Then heals to heaven, then bear crawled to parking lot island, then lunge to next parking island, then merkins, bearcrawl then ran back, did that 5 times.

Then one ran around the parking lot while the other did WW situps to squat.then changed the exercise to LBCs. Did this 5 times.

    Then it was 615.

  • Only 2

only 2 came out for a hot and humid morning beatdown. Dont remember exactly what we did but it went like this…

decided to run down Seminole road, nice run loop with hills, bugs and dogs and the loop is about 1 mile. Then COP, then went over to the parking lot and did 20 split jacks, bear crawled to 1st landscape island, then did WW2 situps to squats, bear crawled to next landscape island, then merkin position on the islands curb and walked around on island with our hands (dont really know how to describe what we did), then bear crawled and ran back. Did this 3 times.

Rounders then took over and we did copy cat, on person ran, the other guy did an exercise, once the 1st person finished running they had to copy the exercise. Did that 4 or 5 times

Ran back to the flag area. Rounders took us out.

  • Look at the planet

After star gazing for a while hoping the Q would show up Rounders, Yardsale and Trout ventured out on their own hot potatoe.

Yardsale lead the COP with arm circles, pushups and abs. Then Yardsale continued with 4 corners on the blacktop with heels to heaven, LBCs, dips, and squats, went around twice to make it 100 count.

Trout then took over with a triple check. One ran around the parking lot, one did split Jack’s and the other did windshield wipers.

Rounders then took over with ran over to the playground, did some rows, ran a lap, did some rows ran a lap. Then did hound and hair, let yardsale (hair) get a little headstart running back to the car then the hounds were released to chase him down…he almost survived..

Numbered out and rounders took us out to start the weekend.

Great to be back from vacation and seeing everyone this week..Trout
