Great fun was had by all on this gloomy Christmas Eve Eve. YHC showed up a little later than normal to find the parking lot empty (5:25). But all of sudden a wave of cars came rushing in and things got started.

During COP, YHC introduced a new exercise LBFC (Little Baby Flutter Crunch). On your 6, feet do flutter kick while upper body does crunch, only counting the crunches. This may make an appearance during part 3.

The mumble chatter was at a all time low during Vixen’s game. YHC feel this was due to the focus level of the PAX and the fact that no Rat could be found.

Cupid’s Loves Bear Crawls (aka Bear Crawl Snake) was not well greeted by the PAX. YHC feels some member should have been at The Shining the day before to understand what Love is all about.

During COT a falling object (maybe an acron) feel into Emoji’s eye. He seems to be ok but Wild Thing came over to comfort him just in case

YHC had an elaborate theme for today’s workout, which quickly dissolved as the thrown cinders blocks broke on the frozen ground. But after some serious modifications and making it up on the spot the PAX was able to start working.

The Carpenter pointed out that there was one guy there today for every degree.

Great effort was done by all. And it was an honor to Q for you guys this morning

    NNM

Strong work this morning by the PAX. The 27 degree weather increased the intensity and sense of shared challenge. We were missing some normal guys due to travel and fart sacking but a strong team stormed the parking lot and got to work. The mumble chatter was minimal due to heavy breathing that could be seen due to the frigid air. There was notable encouragement during each transition from the exercise to the run during the Secret Santa gift “exchange.”

The loudest laughter came when YHC asked the PAX to repeat after him and they said to their partners, “I have a gift for you… It is a BEATDOWN!” The gift was given and given with intensity.

Spit burned through the runs around the building in between exercises and continues to excel. Nobody gave up and everyone pushed through challenge together. Opus continues to take no prisoners with his commitment and improvement. He leads music at an elementary school by day but he is a becoming a beast in the mornings!

Two FNGs came to play and they brought their A-game for sure. Small Mouth (FNG) had heard about F3 but had hurt his back right before it launched. He drove 30 minutes to engage in the workout. That is dedication to discipline! Spare (FNG) was EH’d by Mudface at the Beer & Hymns gathering last night at Center of the Universe brewery where Chow-DAH led the music with his notable guitar and singing skills.

There are all kinds of connections and opportunities right in front of us if we keep our eyes open. The SadClown Syndrome better be scared because we are taking it to it hard. This race is a marathon, not a sprint, and we need one another to keep pushing forward one day at a time. Our wives, children, friends, co-workers, neighbors, communities of faith and strangers in need can be impacted eternally as we continue to engage and reject passivity as men.

    Let’s keep pressing on!

  • Everyone’s Sweat Looks The Same

18 warriors arose to greet the day and to dominate Friday.  The willing and able of the Atlee brigade answered the call to action:

    The thang:

COP:  SSH, Imperial Walker, LCB, Freddie Mercury X 20, Merkin X 10

Power of 10:  10 rounds of the following – 10 Merkin, 10 Squat and 10 two-count American Hammers.  Complete one round at each end of the parking lot.

Pyramid of Success: Partner up and complete a round of Boo-ya merkins and Partner Burpees.  The pyramid is 2, 4, 6, 8, 6, 4, 2 of each exercise with a short run between each one.

Circle of Life:  Partner up.  Working your way around the building one partner runs and the other partner completes a forward moving exercise.  Once the person running catches the person exercising, they switch it up. The exercises are lunges and polar bears.  Alternate until a complete circle has been made around the building.

Numberama, namerama and The Carpenter took us out.

Moleskin:  The Creek has been on the radar for quite some time for YHC and the Atlee brigade did not disappoint.  YHC found it very pleasing to see an incredible effort from the entire pax.  Of note was a considerable variation in ages.  From teenagers to a 60 year old warrior, everyone’s sweat looks the same. If you can show up and give a hi-five, you can do this.  TClaps to the men who have built and strengthen this community.  You should be very proud of this work.

News:  Bear Creek 10 Miler is this weekend.  If you have interest in a rumble in the woods, see Circle K or Lab Rat.

Next weekend is the final weekend of the Hampton Roads launch. Rosie is leading the charge.  The willing and able should join him.

The M of Emoji completed her final round of chemo this week. She is a warrior princess and has won this battle.  Here’s to a speedy recovery and a lifetime of adventures.

Please keep Toga and Abacus in your thoughts and prayers.  Both of these fine men experiences the passing of family members this week. The will be challenges in the coming weeks and months for our brothers. However, if there was ever anyone up to the call to lead their families it is these two outstanding men.

Your call to action is to be the best version of yourself and dominate your Friday.

    Be super.

Great showing at the Creek today with most PAX members staying in their fart sacks or being on the road today.

With today being Black Friday, YHC felt was only fitting to share with the PAX they specials they would be able to find today (these are actual specials at the retail stores for anyone that is interested).

The final count on the Merkins should be around 300 to 305.

The Carpenter made a comment it seems that it was smelling like we are still in our fart sacks. No worries it was just some near by septic tanks giving a wonderful aroma in the air.

At about the halfway point the PAX ask if the Karate Kid could come back. HeHe not allowed.

Welcome back to Tea Party! Glad that you were able to make it.

YHC shared at the end how thankful he is for F3. This has truly be a major impact in his life. Thanks to The Carpenter and Abacus for their special F3 work out during Restoration’s Men Retreat back in May. You guys are inspiration to YHC, you have help this once Sad Clown become a leader.

Thanks also goes out to Emoji, Opus, Lab Rat, and Circle K. YHC has love getting to know you guys in a deeper level. Really has put that 2nd F to work.

Finally thanks to some of the DogPile guys (Swirly, TYA, Hardywood, and Honey Do). YHC truly looks up to you guys to push himself more and more every gloomy post to become stronger!!

    Abacus took us out

    Moleskin

YHC, The Carpenter and Abacus have been talking for weeks about including a F3 workout at our church’s annual student fall retreat. With Psycho being a member of the student leadership team, the plan was most definitely happening.

On Friday night  Psycho request the present of the YHC on stage and to make the announcement about the workout. It was made clear that this was open to all FNG’s (Guys and Gals) and all ages.

YHC was up earlier (mainly because his students didn’t get to sleep till 4am) to complete some Merkins and plant the flag. The rest of the students and adults made there way onto the basketball court to meet at 5:45 am.

The Carpenter was mostly blind due to not putting in his contacts. He later would regret that decision.

Abacus helping out one of the FNG’s hand them some gloves to keep warm. In true Abacus fashion he only had 2 right hand gloves. That will go perfect with his two right shoes from The Creek a couple of weeks ago

YHC took extra steps to ensure that every person understood the name and how to perform each exercise. Many were impressed with YHC’s ability to lead exercises while going around the shovel flag during the warm up.

YHC wisely decided to avoid Alabama Prom Dates in light of the make-up of the PAX.

Wanchees (FNG) made sure to let The Carpenter know that she was going to keep up with him while running through the fields in between the WWII sit-ups. She kept up an impressive pace and exchanged many high fives while running back & forth in the gloom.

Psycho’s family was well-represented with Twinkle Toes (FNG) and Snake (FNG) posting though Snake disappeared part-way through the workout.

Ruble (FNG) and Flu Shot (FNG) left before the namerama in order to shower, put on make-up and get ready for the day. That is not something that normally happens…

There were multiple casualties during Catch Me If You Can. One FNG wiped out and cut his hand. The Carpenter stepped into a hole with his right foot, twisted it, rolled on the ground and got up but could not catch the speedy Spit.

Many of the FNGs did not anticipate the level of effort required to complete a full workout. Most of them stayed to the end and experienced the benefits of completing a full workout.

One student shared that he woke up to go to the bathroom and he then saw a bunch of people doing jumping jacks in the field. He didn’t believe what he was seeing at first but then he remembered who was out there.

Upon returning home, one FNG was asked, “What was your favorite part of the retreat?” Her response was, “The F3 workout!”

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • Karate Kid

Nineteen men spanning five decades of ages stormed the parking lot to post at The Creek along with one FNG. The Carpenter (YHC) planted the shovel flag (thanks to Toga!) and the PAX took off running across the field into the dark to begin the workout.

    The THANG:

COP warmup: Merkins IC x20, SSH IC x60, Arm Circles IC x10 large/x5 small reverso, Merkins IC x20, Copperhead Squats IC x10, SSH IC x20, Merkins IC x20, Copperhead Squats IC x10, SSH IC x20.

Mosey back to the parking lot near the corner of the church building.

    Run from the Cobra Kai
Catch Me If You Can – Partner up.
First partner does 20 Merkins while the second partner takes off around the church building. The second partner stopped to do 10 Merkins at the halfway point. If the first partner catches the second partner, then the second partner does 20 Burpees. If the first partner doesn’t catch the second partner, then he does 10 Burpees.

    Repeat, switching roles.

    Training with Miaygi
Mosey to the pavilion and locate a picnic table bench.
10 Merkins, 10 Incline Merkins, 10 Derkins, Plank until everyone is done, 30 SSHs IC
    Repeat 3x

    The Tournament
Mosey back to parking lot. Line up opposite one another with half the men on one side of the parking lot and half the men on the other side. Step toward your partner. Bow. Do an exercise. Rotate down one person to face a new opponent. Repeat.
    Here were the exercises:
5 Burpees, 20 Merkins, 20 American Hammers, 12 Imperial Walkers, 10 WWII Sit-Ups, Crab crawl to the edge of the parking/Bear crawl back to the original position.

The final exercise was “Daniel-Sons” (think of Daniel Larusso on the beach and then the final move in the tournament against Johnny Lawrence). Do as many as you can. The last two going faced off against each other and continued until finished.

    Mosey to the SF.

Merkins IC x20, SSH IC x30

    COT
Updates shared – 190 Merkins today (for the November challenge) and 190 SSHs to match them…
    YHC took us out

    Moleskin:

YHC rolled into the parking lot at 5:20 am and saw 10 men already circled up and ready to go. Cars continued to pile into the lot. Two Boston Red Sox fans met for the first time (Chow-DAH and a FNG now known as Tea Party). They were surprised to see a man get out of his truck who looked like Rob Gronkowski. It was actually a F3 returner named Hoss. Ratio was also back and he opened his mouth with some immediate trash talk to YHC (no surprise here!).

The theme of the morning was Karate Kid (1984 version). The PAX didn’t realize that they had automatically been signed up to The Creek dojo with The Carpenter as the Sensei. The Carpenter’s Dad has a similar look to Miyagi so everything kind of fit together…

The mumble chatter was loud due to the normal enthusiasts (Emoji, Abacus). The COP warmup was as close to the surrounding houses as we could get. The loud counting hopefully woke up some fart sackers and peaked the interest of sad clowns all around The Creek area…

YHC brought out “Catch Me If You Can” but reframed it in light of Daniel Larusso’s running away from the Cobra Kai. The Merkins partway around the church building simulated Daniel’s attempt to climb the fence before being pulled down. Unfortunately for the PAX, there was no Miyagi to save them from the burpees and intense sprints.

The Tournament provided ample opportunities for Karate Kid quotes to be shared. The PAX shouted out, “Sweep the leg, Johnny,” “Put him in a body bag,” “Mercy is for the weak, when you are on the streets…,” “Squash like grape,” and the singing of “You’re the Best Around.”

The “Daniel-Son” exercise ended up looking more like a Russian dance or Irish jig than a karate tournament fight. Spit and Toga outlasted Chapstick by 3 seconds and they were anointed the two finalists. The PAX circled up and cheered them on as they went head-to-head on the final exercise. Toga pulled out the victory and cheers erupted!

The announcements included updates on the F3 Hampton Roads expansion.

Ratio shared about his wife’s friend who has been battling bladder cancer and is now on hospice. He asked for prayers for her, her family and his wife (close friend). Emoji shared about his wife’s chemotherapy and recent struggles as she finishes up the treatments this month.

The PAX pulled in and YHC took us out. Ratio was overtaken by the moment and started to cry. The whole PAX surrounded our brother and encouraged him after the prayer.

F3 is a LOT more than just a workout. We are a band of brothers who are in the battle together. We are fighting more than burpees and derkins. We are all facing life’s challenges but we do not have to face them alone. We can face them together. We need to stay with the pack and fight our sad clown tendencies on all fronts!

Game over… The Carpenter is OUT!

Circle of Fire – 5 Merkins

The Thang:  As The Carpenter was placed on his six by an angry meal grinder bug, the stand in YHC wanted to make sure we all slow down.  By slowing down we can all take in the beauty of the mornings and life’s blessing. To accomplish this we did our exercises (outside of our Merkins) nice and slow.  Everyone embraced the concept till we completed the first 5 “Ts”…  Counting throughout the morning was erratic in respect of the Q.  YHC had the intention to use the Merkins as an encouragement to join the Merkin challenge.  However, realization that 400+ Merkins during one workout might have the opposite affect came to light as Emoji and everyone’s pace of Merkins dropped significantly as 615 came closer to the Pax.  However the Pax is strong and 200 to 425 Merkins were completed by the PAX this AM.  EF Hutton was happy to break his previous workout record of 350 by 75.  Others were not so happy…  Don’t forget to record your Merkins on the challenge sheet >>> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-L8e9W24ygnU0suaGyKxzi1PgPqY1CBd57hLrKTZI-g/edit?ts=563e70a3#gid=711611107

The Pax was challenged by Mud Face to keep Chewy in our prayers as he takes on challenges brought to him by fellow students seeking to gain recognition by having fun at other kid’s expense. This is what a Pax is about and a good conversation was had about the value of a Pax that provides healthy examples of love and encouragement.

Announcements: YHC reminded everyone of Tidewater Expansion starting tomorrow and asked for the Pax to practice some headlocking.  Lab Rat is set to Q tomorrow so encouragement and prayers were requested.

To close up the morning Mud Face prayed us out.

  • Two Right Shoes

19 men awakened from the fartsack to enjoy perfect weather to work up a sweat.  Here is what we accomplished before most people have opened their eyes:

Mosey around church parking lot to form a plank line.  Merkin x15 IC.  Polar Bear across parking lot stopping at each parking space to perform a merkin.  Plank when finished. Merkin x5 IC.

Mosey to field for some fun 11s.  Run across field, perform 10 merkins.  Run backwards across field, perform 1 WWII situp.  Repeat until 1 merkin and 10 WWII situps.

Mosey back to church parking lot and around church building for four corners around church building.  Corner 1 merkin x25, Corner 2 Jump Squat with a Jump Shot x 25.  Corner 3 American Hammer x25. Corner 4, LBC x25. Repeat entire circuit x3.

Alabama Prom Dates x25, FlutterKicks x40, Freddie Mercuries x20, Rosalitas x10. (All IC)

Line up along parking lot for an abbreviated Mini-Beast. Lunge across parking lot stopping along three points and perform x3 of called exercises. Exercises called included BallDippers (Spit), Merkins (Chapstick), Burpees (Emoji at YHC insistence)

Mosey back to VSF.  Numberama, Namearama, Abacus took us out with prayer.

NMM :  The hardest part of Qing for YHC is writing the backblast, especially coming up with an appropriate Title.  So Abacus showed up to the AO on his bike with 30 seconds to spare.  THE Carpenter mentioned that he had about 30 seconds to change into his running shoes from his cycling shoes.  Abacus’s response to said issue was that he had plenty of time.  Until the second issue of the morning presented itself to Abacus.  Abacus “OH no, I picked up two RIGHT footed running shoes”.  With that being said YHC pronounced it was time to Mosey and YHCs dilemma of an appropriate title was solved.  In true F3 spirit, Abacus put on both RIGHT shoes and crushed the beatdown. (On a side note, Abacus in true F3 spirit, used this morning beatdown for a 40 mile bike ride afterword. Respect.)  YHC had not Qd at The Creek and was not familiar with the entirety of the property.  Therefore, YHC did not have a true game plan for this morning.  Fortunately, Emoji mentioned how much he enjoyed HoneyDo’s 5 mile Polar Bear earlier this week.  YHC thought to himself that would be a great way to start the beatdown.  YHC was thinking The Polar Bear would be a option for the day, but Emoji cemented the start.  During the 11s, the mumblechatter subsided, as YHC believes the PAX was concentrating on not running over each other.  That field is real dark at 530am.  Nobody collided, although YHC believes Helix? performed a backflip over a PAX member performing merkins as he began his backwards run during one pass.  Spit and Helix led the PAX through the four corners, with the rest of the PAX really pushing through a fast pace.  We finished with an abbreviated Mini-Beast to cool down.  Only an F3 beatdown ends with a Beast.  That is how we roll.  AYE!

Welcome to Front Porch and I-Beam.  Looking forward to seeing you at future workouts.

    Great work this morning gentlemen.

PS. My apologies to the PAX member I am missing.  Not intentional, I still have visions of Abacus running around the church with two right shoes and that is creating a fog in my memory.  Someone please help me, so I can update the PAX list.  Credit is due upon the completion of an F3 workout.

    Moleskin

YHC didn’t know what to expect this morning. The Carpenter had some serious EHing going on the night before in FB. When YHC arrived he was surprised to see all the FNG’s that showed up. The shovel flag was planted and we got to work.

Chatter was lite to start during the COP but with two FIFO FNG’s showing up, the PAX quickly got excited.

The theme was an extension of Carpenter’s ESPN post from last week. It’s a busy time in american sports at the moment so YHC (a sport fanatic himself) felt a sport theme was needed

First up, basketball. College basketball starts up in a just a few weeks and one of the most popular exercise for this sport is suicides. Also you can’t play basketball without practicing your jump shot so about 200 should do the trick. The PAX reluctantly agreed.

Next in honor of the up coming World Series time for a little baseball. Every PAX member was able to bat 1.000 with 2 homers. They had to do it the hard way but hopefully it was worth it.

Final sport was Soccer. YHC isn’t a huge soccer fan but if you add some crab walking and bear crawls into the sport I guess it’s ok. Abacus and Sugar Baby were some tough goalie but a few goals were had. Final score ended in a tie 2-2.

Time to mosey back to the flag for a ring a fire. Near the end of exercise and special guest came though and gave Abacus a slap on the butt. It’s ok that was just his wife 😉

Shout out to our most seasoned FNG Wild Thing (Double Respect) and our youngest Chewy (12) for posting.

Welcome to our other FNG’s: Pincher, Mud Face, ChowDAH, and Strickland (had to leave early will be named later). Hope to see you post again soon

YHC continues to be encouraged by Iron Sharpening Iron every week. The Creek has bought about just another reason why the 2nd F is so important.

    Announcements

YHC and Abacus explained a little more about what F3 is all about.

    SPIT ON THAT!!
