  • VQ Backblast

Tin Man led his VQ a week ago and the only way we know about it is this backblast. Tin Man has been a regular triple poster of late and the pax is better for it. After 50 of various exercises and a weird 12—3 cadence the pax fell in line and are the better for it.

Nice job entering into 50 and COT respect with F3, great having you.

  • Frosty the Forge-man

Eight popsicles gathered at the Forge for a snowy beatdown. With temps in the low teens, constant movement was top of mind for YHC and here’s what we did:

Mosey to the flag pole for warmarama to include slow squats, side straddle hops, jazzercise (with toe tap), Fudd’s wife, Wilson’s wife, merkins, etc.

    COP #1 – Lindsay

    • Mosey to the stairs by the football ticket booth for 30 hoedowns then 10 dips, traversing the stairs between each set.
    • Adjust the rep count by 5 each round until you perform 10 hoedowns and 30 dips.

    COP #2 – Hillside Dora

    • Mosey around the school to the amphitheater for an incline Dora.
    • 100 WWIIs, 200 Flutter Kicks, 300 LBCs. Timer runs to the large amphitheater steps and back to the hill.

COP #3 – Meet In The Middle

    • Find new partners and run opposite directions of the amphitheater loop where PAX 1 box jumps the large steps while PAX 2 runs the stairs. Each time the partners meet, drop for groiners before continuing the loop.
    • Started with 20 groiners and decreased by 1 each meeting until we got to 10 reps. Some of the partners would swap directions every-other time they met on the loop.

Mosey back to the flag, stopping just short for a quick 10 count cocaine bear crawl (1 merkin at each white parking stripe) before time was called.

    Numbers/Names/Announcements

    • Frozen Triangle 2/8
    • Sign-up for Breaking Bread (TClaps to Last Call for the endorsement)

    • YHC took us out.
  • Rockin out MABA Tabata

A 12-pack of Bud on ice? No. A perfect bakers dozen of jelly-filled donuts? No. This morning the Forge locked and loaded a magazine of 12 full metal jacket heroes and Rambo blazed the start of MABA Day 2 with the following badassery:

    The THANG:

***1 minute prior to start, PAX given the game plan for 100 BURPEE TABATA = 1 minute to complete x10 Burpees, timer going off every 5min during the 45min beatdown for a total of 100 burpees. Classic Rock ON, Let’s GO!!!

    0530 Strikes —> 1st set of 10 Burpees

    • Also requested prayer for upcoming missions trip to PNG

NMS:  After the Convergence MABA Day 1, YHC felt completely wiped out, and was a little surprised yesterday to see “DTH” signed up for the Forge. This, my brothers, is the power of accountability at work. Sign up ahead of time, and no matter how much you’re temped to fartsack, guys are depending on you to lead. All the PAX were encouraged this morning to sign up on the Q sheet. AWESOME work put in by the PAX to conquer Day 2 of “Make America Burpee Again.” It is truly SO much easier to get back up when you have awesome brothers on either side of you. Speaking of awesome brothers, WELCOME BACK to Fresh Prince!!! New year, new you! Excited to see what 2025 brings to this awesome group of men. Yours AYE! ~DTH

  • Imperium

Holiday gone, time marches slowly on. 5 men, our bodies and our minds locked in a war of attrition with entropy itself. The expectations of a mechanized society, the weaponization of technology. In the gloom, we are winning, but it is trench warfare and we had the soundtrack to prove it.

Mosey to the flagpole for warmarama.

Mosey back and down the hill for some knoll work: 11s with mirkins, bear crawl the knoll, jumpsquats, lunge down.

    100 WW2s.

Mosey to the roundabout for a cinco de checko. Timer runs the loop, flutter kicks, mountain climbers, squats, burpees. Rinse and repeat 5 times.

    COT. Peace.

  • smash the silence with the brick of self-control

9 kind souls and one new playlist gathered around the warm fires of the Forge for an beatdown audible. Tin Man’s 50th VQ will have to take a rain check after too much egg nogg at Rosie’s Christmas Special.

Crank up the volume: Warmarama. Mosey to the amphitheater for a triple check: run the loop, WW2s, squats. Then, 11s with box jumps up the big steps, incline mirkins and dips.

Mosey over for some wall work Pigskin-style: people’s chair, balls to the wall, and donkey kicks, each 3 times.

Mosey to back to the flag for some ab Mary, some mirkin Mary, and some breathing exercises to the sound of violins.

COT. Prayers for those on IR including Tin Man.

Warm welcome to Salt Lick, except, where’s that warm Texas weather we were promised? Look forward to seeing his enthusiasm out there this season. And welcome back Dookie – new Green Day pop-punk playlist coming soon! Great to see you both.

  • Mystery Box 2024: Remembering Puddles, Oreo, and Sherpee

Lighting the Christmas Tree, drinking egg nog, and gathering with friends around the Mystery Box at The FORGE……….This is what the holidays are all about! 8 of SOJ’s finest posted in the cold for some revelry and exercise. Here is a brief summary for your viewing pleasure:

Mosey to the front of the abandoned Middle School for warm-up: Side Straddle Hops, Ukranian Soldiers, Mummy Kicks, Copperhead Squats, Alabama Prom Dates.

To the back of the school for the main event: Mystery Box
PAX take turns pulling an exercise out of the box, then grab the medicine ball and run to Forest Hill Avenue and back……….everyone else does said exercise for the duration:

Bear Crawl, Jumping Herpees, Lt. Dans, Plank Walk, Crab Walk, Crunchy Frogs, American Hammers, Squats, WWII Sit ups, Mountain Climbers, Appalachian Lunge Walks, Freddy Mercuries, Mummy Kicks, I probably missed a few

Back to the Flag for Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayer Requests

    YHC took us out

Final Thoughts: Mystery Box is typically a time to celebrate. But it can also be cathartic as evidenced by several PAX discussing dogs that died tragically?? Still not sure what a Sherpee is. The latest Mystery Box Mixxx had just enough euro metal to satisfy Last Call. Until next year…………………

  • Thanksgiving Part 2

6 Windy warriors came out to see Machismos part deux. As Snuff’s Forgecast predicted: “Machismo pushes the cold air out of town with a high pressure system bringing heat, humidity and high impact. SYITG” with high pressure came lots of wind as the pack quickly mosied to find the cover of the amphitheater.

Warmarama in quick succession included SSH, UkS, Merkins, Sholder Taps, Peter Parkers (great combo), LBC, American Hammer, Freddie’s, Rosalitas, DQs, and arm circles forward and reverse.

With 2 triples the pax partnered for a triple check. Part one was PLTs with the runner circling the amphitheater.

Part deux was P1 plank, P2 Merkins P3 Runner; then Boya WWII, then Boya Merkins. It was quite the Bro fest with lots of Q help from Wedding Singer.

The Pax hit some Wall work then. sprinted out the last of the 45 before COT.

Announcements were few but included the Magnum PI ad from Gumbo. Bring a Hawaiian shirt and kids clothes donations for those impacted by hurricanes to Dogpile. Flatline will carry the loot to SWVA.

Prayers for temperance in this holiday season.

It was a pleasure to lead twice this week. I was on a Thanksgiving high with the TYA Q and a full family and friend holiday. I’m putting in a request to rebrand Christmas Thanksgiving part 2. Let’s refocus the holiday on the joy fellowship and the promise fulfilled. The old Testament ends with Malachi 4 and the New Testament picks up in Luke 1:13-17 “And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” In the spirit of the season let us prepare our hearts and our families in the spirit of thankfulness for the gift that is to come. (I’m not talking about an Xbox. )

VQ alert!!! Tin Man with a 50 year old Virgin Respect VQ coming to the Forge 12/19 what a way to enter strong Tin Man!

  • Thunderplanked

10 PAX tackled the Forge with grit, from warmups to the Thunderstruck plank challenge. A morning of sweat, strength, and unrelenting energy!

Rolling hills to start out, bear crawling up the side of the hills.

Warmups: Side straddle hops; Imperial Walkers; Don quixotes; arm circles; lbcs; alabama prom dates

COP 1 : Musicrama Thunderstruck: The Q plays “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. PAX complete one standard merkin for every “thunder!” heard in the song and hold a plank during the rest of the song.
“Bring sally up” stay in squat position throughout song- squat up on “bring sally up”, squat down “on bring sally down”

COP # 2: Indigenous people run with 5 normal burpees for hte person at the back of the line
Bernie Sanders indigenous people run: PAX lunge walked backwards in a line, the PAX in front did five burpees then Bernie backwards to the back of the line.

Mosey towards stairs, 20 x donkey kicks on wall; 20x mohammed ali

COP 3: Triple Check at stairs. pax 1 runs up stairs and around, pax 2- hand release merkins, pax 3- world war 2s

    Sprint at the parking lot

close out: Ring of fire with each pax doing 10 merkins

Announcements: Chili cook off this Sunday November 24 at the Alamo; 3-6. Convergence at Mary Mumford Thanksgiving Day.

Prayer Request: job losses for Snuff’s friends.

  • Sneaky takeover

YHC arrived early for an EC pre-run with a downranger and planted the SOJ Ghost Flag. Apparently no one noticed the black flag at the AO entrance and Chaplain was surprised to have his half marathon taper plans upended. In respect the taper, as Lockjaw would approve, we went easy on the legs but heavier on shoulders.

Mosey to the cul-de-sac with a stop to wait for Snuff. Various Warm-up exercises with an RVA special – Jazzercise – thrown in for the out of town guest.

Make our way back up the road with a stop at the first 8 light poles – 10 merkins/10 box cutters at each. Up the sidewalk with a Jerkin indigenous run – 3×5 rounds. Triple check with HRM and WWII. In front of the school for random Mary. Since the PAX were expecting Chaplain, we could not leave without some standard parking lot activities. Back and forth across with Mummy Kicks, mario jumps, bear crawl, lunges and a few others. Ring of Fire and some stretching to close it out.

Thanks for being a good spot Chap – SOJ Ghost Flag rides again. Supply Chain made his way around RVA the last few days picking up points for a CSAUP – lots of good ideas to implement in RVA.

    Announcements-

Chili Cook Off 11/24 – Rountrey – see Heist

    Thanksgiving workout – 7 am at 45MOM

  • Where da cops at?

7 outlaws rolled up right at 5:30. YHC VQ. Checking over their shoulder for the law, but saw none.

Mosey down the road to secluded cull de sac hideout.

Warmara included: SSS, Don Quixote, cherry pickers, arm circles, plank, push ups, LBCs, and Alabama prom dates.

COP#1 Indigenous people mosey to ramp, six doing 5 push ups

COP#2 Indigenous people working up the ramp w/ jerkins and incline merkins.

COP#3 Mosey to arch for triple check: flutter kicks and squats

COP#4 With only a few minutes remaining (man that went fast), YHC threw out forty corners. 10 laps around parking lot between 4 corners: 10 burpees (descending each lap), 20 LBCs, 30 squats, 40 monkey humpers. We made it to about 11 corners before time was called and before the PAX was lapped by belay.

    Announcements/prayer: YHC closed in prayer
