  • Tomato Run is under new management

This morning, Lab Rat set out to find out if there was still a pulse in the Tomato Run since the AO was switched over to the Rutland clubhouse.  He got there, looked around and saw no signs of life, so decided to climb back in the ratmobile to wait a couple minutes for stragglers then head back to more familiar territory and a solo run.  Alas, here comes Spike to scare the hell out of Lab Rat and let him know that the run was a GO.

This is a long standing neighborhood run, so YHC will cease to do F3 backblasts regarding this event.  However, F3 members have been invited to join in for a friendly bro-code run on Monday mornings, conveniently starting at the traditional time of 5:30 (a.m. of course).  All “pax” stayed together this mornig, and the mumblechatter was flowing.  YHC guesses the pace at around 9:00 minute miles, but didnt bother to look at GPS.  3-5 mile loops are options on this run.

YHC had a very pleasant run this morning, and he hopes to see a few more of the local pax venture out to meet up with this fine group of men.  Take note however that the meeting place is a short walk from the clubhouse, at the corner of Combs and Oakham Drives.

Thanks to Spike for banging on the glass and saving me from a lonely run this morning.  I enjoyed the company!

  • One lonely Beastie I be

Lab Rat took to the streets surrounding Atlee High School accompanied by a headlamp and his trusty Tron.  Unburdened by the pax, he felt free to roam around the neighborhoods, covering 5 miles at a brisk pace.  Conversations, albeit only internal, ran the gambit this morning as one could only imagine.

    Announcements:

-Bear Creek Trail Run is Sunday.  Food and beverages will be provided by yours truly…bring a few extra bucks to split the tab.  There will be chicken bog, hot and cold beverages (including beer), and a camp fire.  Non-runners and family are welcome to join us!  Consider car pooling to this event….YHC is driving and will happily take anybody from the greater Hanover region.

  • Moonlight Run

3 showed for the moon, 3 conquered 4.5 miles, clear skies, freezing temps, doing 3 loops around the school and 150 ish  merkins!

  • Ready for 8K

YHC picked up Sassy and drug him out after a long hiatus, and we met Spit in the parking lot for a small group run on a crisp clear fall morning.

Route:  out along the Atlee HS spur road, thru Honey Meadows etc. to Kings Charter.  Turn around at the playground for an out and back of 5.00 miles.

NMS:  Sassy was given a free pass for a bit while training up for his 100 mile ultra in September.  Free pass is over, it’s time to start dragging his butt back out to some F3 workouts!  Great to catch up with him, he is very active in the running community, and it’s always interesting to hear the races he has done and what is on his calendar for the near future.

Spit, on the other hand, seems to always be around.  Proof is in the pudding too, as he went about running the two of us in the ground.  All mile splits were fast this morning, and Spit let it go the last two miles leaving the two of us huffing in the dust.  He has been training up to 8K, and I know that he will have an awesome run on Saturday.  Cant wait to hear what is next for him after this….maybe a longer distance?  Only one man knows….

To Spit and everyone else running this weekend (TYA, TSB, Circle K, Grabber, who else?), I hope that you have a great run!  Take it all in and trust in all the hard work that you have put in coming up to this.  Should be a glorious day for a run thru the city.

  • Atlee complex laps

4 runners were found loitering on school grounds this morning.  Punishment was to run laps around complex:

    • start with short stroll around parking lot to catch any stragglers (none showed), then head down road until Honey Meadow Rd.  Left until bus parking lot, another left into lot, then across front of schools to starting point.  Each lap is 1.5 miles, pick your distance.

    NMS

Teams of two formed, Anchovy and Spike leading us out, with Lab Rat and Spit close behind.  Spit was pulling hard out of the gates this morning, and Lab Rat was struggling.  After 2 miles, Lab Rat dropped the virtual tether on Spit and let him fly.  Lab Rat pulled it in early, covering 4 miles….dragging ass after a long trail run yesterday.  Anchovy and Spike came in hot, then went back out in reverse to track down Spit, who busted out 5 miles at a blistering pace.  The front runners covered about 5.5 miles.

Announcements were:  See ya’ll in the morning.  HoneyDo Q at DaVille…..YEEEHAW!

  • The Rat was no where to be found

3 Loyal Runners and 1 FNG show up at Atlee HS parking lot this morning for nice group run

    Thang:

-5.5 milers: Out to the King’s Charter loop and back

-5.0 miler: Out to just past the King’s Charter lake and back. loop around the football stadium, soccer field, and HS parking lots to get the full mileage.

    NMM:

YHC knew that Lab Rat mentioned he would be missing the Tomato Run today so a plan was put together to do our normally run. The pax started out together but YHC knew he wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pax so earlier turnaround point was needed.

The chatter was mainly about HS football and how the whole districts were set up these days.

The full moon gave some much needed light on this run. The normally “black hole” on the loop behind the schools was brighten by it and the wonderful clear sky at to the environment.

Welcome to Juggler! I know that Anchovy and Phonics enjoyed having a long time runner join the group.

  • I just wanted to tell you that you taught my wife…

6 Mechanicsvillagers showed up for this week’s episode of Tomato run.  The weather was such that the pax had a choice in dress this morning, and you had to deal with the consequences.  Route:

-6 milers:  Out and back to the King’s Charter clubhouse.

4.4 milers: Out to the 4 mile turnaround, get lost on the way back, go into several cul-de-sacs looking for the trail back, then run out Honey Meadows to the front of the schools and cut across the parking lot.

So, the pax organically split in to 2 evenly manned groups, with the Sugar Ray’s no doubtedly feeling the calling of speed with the brisk temperatures.  YHC gave them the go-ahead to let the horses run, while Opus, Lab Rat, and Spit opted for a more mosey-esque pace good for guys either trying to get their running legs or trying to recover from 2 hour workouts and long Sunday runs.  At about the half way point, Spit dropped the bomb on Opus (an elementary school teacher) that he had in fact taught his wife in his early days as a teacher.  So much for feeling young again!

The 6 milers came in hot a few minutes late, after clocking some impressive paces for the last mile when they figured out they were out of time.  With all the bro-code runs of late, it was actually pleasant to see these gifted runners sucking a little wind!  Way to put in the effort, gents!

YHC had chosen to tough out the weather in traditional light short sleeve shirt thinking he would warm up in a few minutes.  However, with the wind still whipping, Lab Rat never got warm.  While it felt good to be chilly for the first time in months, the hot shower after felt even better.

  • A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Would you be my, wont you be my, wont you be my pax….3 regulars and a Kotters to Mr. Rogers for Tomato Run this morning:

The pax once again decided to stick together this morning, although the speedsters (Helix and Anchovy) were given the go-ahead if they felt the need for speed.  We wandered around King’s Charter whimsically, coming back to the VSF at exactly 4.5 miles.  Discussion varied, covering topics such as Shane’s Shuffle (which would be a great F3 event, had it not fallen on convergence day), Mr. Roger’s petri dish son and various colds, and how to run fast.  Anchovy let YHC know that if you want to run 8 minute miles, you should run 7 minute miles….which would make running 8 minute miles easier.  Thanks, bro.

Running with 4-6 guys has been great.  While YHC would love to see the pax grow, he has really been digging these last few weeks of smaller numbers and keeping the “bro code” that the Rutland group has brought over.  Also, great to catch up with you again, Mr. Rogers!  Thanks for the company this morning, gentlemen.

  • Run

5 pax met up for the weekly running of the tomato’s, and here is what went down:

    Route

This morning’s route was a little fluid, and we generally just went out for a morning run.  The plan was to head in to King’s Charter and run to the 5 mile turnaround, but we made a group decision to turn another way.  The change in route caused us to have to make some modifications to add length at the end, so Spike led us to the trail around the lake at Honey Meadow.  Total distance was 4.7 miles.

    NMS

-What looked like 4 pax morphed into 5, as Kit Kat caught up to us at the entrance to Honey Meadows.

-Sticky was having a battle of wills with his knees, so he and No Deal turned around a little early.  Smart call, the knees will always win.

-Chatter during the run revolved around fantasy football, F3 name changes, and the ineffectiveness of lights worn around the waist.

-YHC is really digging the runs on Monday, which have been more often than not turning in to “bro code” runs.  For the most part, we run as a pax and the conversation is high.  Emphasis has been on running as a group instead of getting in the most bang for the buck.  Lab Rat approved for sure.

-Also, the absence of Opus this morning was noted, as Lab Rat had a song memorized for him as promised.  You snooze, you lose.

  • Bro-Code Run

4 pax decided to meet the day with a run.  Weather was 70 and sticky, as summer claims it’s last few days of 2016.  A great morning for a run sans-shirt, and 1 pax member finally agreed with Q.  The run went like this:

Lab Rat had a 4, 5, and 6 mile route planned, but with a smallish pax, the decision was made to keep the pax together for a “bro-code run”, a tradition of the Rutland group to keep the pax together and only fart downwind of pax (YHC thinks that’s part of bro code).  Run took the cut through to King’s Charter, then used modern technology to turn around at the 2.25 mile mark to shoot for 4.5 miles.  Actual mileage came out a little heavier than that with some circling back to the six.

    NMS

First off, great to run with Anchovy without the larger groups….not to say they werent missed, but a smaller group means a more meaningful conversation.  YHC always enjoys getting to know individual pax members better….and DaVille has been tough on that with the bigger pax we have experienced.

Also, Spit is now back to running shape, and is now running distances with ease he struggled with a mere month ago.  He is enjoying the fruits of the hard work he has been putting in since starting F3.  That is always a great thing to see unfold.  Great work, Spit!  Glad you are a part of us.

Lastly, Opus is becoming a runner as well.  He is at the point where he can do the mileage, but it is still tough.  He pushed thru this morning like a badass though, finishing 4.5 miles (plus) for his longest run so far this year!  Well done, Opus!  Keep banging on that door and it’s going to fall.  YHC promises to have a motivational song loaded up for next week.  You do like country, right?

Great run this morning, gents.  Loved the Bro-Code style of keeping the pax together.  Easy pace was welcomed this morning with sore legs from Reesestrong.  Also, sorry about the “easy pace” comment to Opus, but it’s all relative…you would lap us in a guitar playing contest.  Lab Rat CAN sing, though.
