Pocahontas Middle School

  • Trying out new kind of Merkins

Five showed up today early morning. Pigskin and Blue Moon did things around the School. YHC asked if remaining wanted to spend fun time with Pigskin, they refused. So, we ran around neighborhoods. After some warm up, we started with 20 Merkins and 20 Freddie Mercuries. After that we kept the same 20 Freddies, but changed Merkins at every stop keeping number at 20 to Diamonds, Wide grip, Merkin with right leg off the ground (Scorpion may be?), same left leg up, Spider Monkey (only 15 of those on account of them being harder), Carolina Dry Docks. And the time was up to come back. Overall, ran 3.5 miles. So much fun!

YHC will appreciate any help with the name of Merkin.

Whitesnake: We are registering official complaint about dogs barking in your neighborhood. It was the first time in several years, so we understand, still… we expect a more friendly attitude toward strangers who show up at 5am in the morning.

  • Still time to vote??

Pocahontas middle school was still open for eight late voters today.

Blue Moon voted to do some track work as he comes back from knee surgery.

Pigskin voted to do laps around the school with 200 merkins, 200 dips and then four stops with 20 reps of different ab exercises.

The rest of us (6, including guest Cappuccino) ran away from the pollsters and went to Short Pump Park. They did whatever I asked including warmups of DQ, Hillbillys, Cherry Pickers, Merkins and Freddies. I then used my platform of “the government is running in circles” to get 80 merkins in (4 sets of 20 with 4 laps in-between). I then promised a triple check and the team fulfilled the promise with a running timer, dips and step ups. The power was going to my head so we ran to the Nissan dealer and we did 5 burpees at every red car. There were 8 red cars in total. BTW, there was only one blue car (and a hundred + white or grey cars). We know what that means: car colors are boring. If elected, I promise more cool car colors!!

We ran back to the flag and did a run of the bus loop to get to 3 miles. While we voted differently to start the morning, we circled up as one brotherhood for some announcements and prayers.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • WTH Thriller

    Darkness falls across the land
The 5:30 half hour is close at hand
Five Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize the West Broad Village neighborhood
    And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for running up and down
Must stand and face the Hounds of Hell
And run inside a parking deck shell
To the top we ran in the air
The funk of four corners fear
10 Merkins, 20 Plank Jacks from every tomb
30 Squats and 40 Smurf Jacks to seal your doom
And though you run up and down the stairs to stay alive
And at the Gazebo your body dips and steps up & starts to shiver
We finish with 35 merkins and 40 WIIs because we can’t resist
The morning of the WTH thriller
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • Not Extemporaneous

Lighthouse requested the Pocahontas route. And so that’s what we did.

Start out with 20 merkins by the stairway to the right of the entrance to the school, run on the sidewalk to the side of the school at the low walls and do 20 dips. Run around the back of the school and over to the tennis court benches; 20 merkins and 20 dips. Continue around the school on the sidewalk to the entrance to the school and run on the sidewalk to the front door to the school and back to the start at the stairway. This takes me about 5 minutes. Lighthouse and Mr. Rogers stayed with my pace. We did this 5 laps for a total of 200 merkins and 200 dips.

Next, the same running route but substitutes 20 Crunchy Frogs for the 1st set of merkins, 10 V-Ups for the 1st set of dips, 20 bench kicks for the next set of merkins/dips, run to the corner and do 20 reverse crunches (pole smokers without the pole) and return to the start. 3X.

On the third abdominal set, Mr. Rogers and Lighthouse altered the routine and ran a mile on the track while I completed the set and then did a final lap around the school minus any stops for exercises.

    No announcements:

Closed out with the Prayer of St. Francis:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

  • Better late than never, no fines according to Lighthouse

The Thing Regular Cul-De-Sac workout for us, run to neighborhood and 20 merkins and 20 LBCs each cul-de-sac. 10 cul-de-sacs once completed mosey around pond long way and then over to John Rolfe to get back to the flag. 4.25 miles covered, 200 merkins and 200 LBCs. Great combo for getting chest abs and some fat burn. Q closed with prayer.

  • WTH Fall Fun

5 gathered to enjoy the fall temps and get our workout in. We cover 3.8 miles of distance with some workout in the midst. Ran from flag over to Barrington neighborhood, first cul-de-sac we warmed up with 15 Side straddles, 10 Ukrainian solders, 10 merkins, and 10 Suzzanne Summers to pay tribute, mosey down the road to another street end, 20 merkins 20 LBC and 5 burpees, mosey around and find anothe cul-de-sac to start 11’s Merkins and Jump squats. Turned out to be a big spread of distance and covered 2 miles doing 11’s. headed back to flag, loop around bus loop, finished with 20 merkins, 20 LBCs, 5 burpees and 1 minute plank to end the time YHL closed us in prayer. Praying for White snakes family with the loss of his Mother in law and Father in law who needs care full time.

  • Back, if only for a little while

For a litany of reasons, had been several months since YHC had 1) posted 2) Q’d. Upon arrival at the AO, Lighthouse asked at 5:26 if I wanted to Q. Of course, why not!? Having given no thought to a gameplan, I decided to reheat a workout from my last Q. It went something like this:

    • Head out from the AO and run to Windsor Place/Thamesford Way neighborhood
    • Continue running through the neighborhood to the parking lot at Church Run Community Pool for Elevens, consisting of squat jumps and merkins
    • After Elevens, caught our breath with a smattering of Mary exercises
    • Quick escalator around the parking lot consisting of body weight squats, Carolina Dry Docks, Parker Peter’s and step back lunges
    • Departed the parking lot and continued the run, back across Three Chopt
    • Run back to the shovel flag for CoT
    • Right around 3 miles even

Continued prayers for Roger Roger’s ongoing recovery and rehab as well as all those that continued to be impacted by geopolitical conflict/war.

  • Pub Crawl Penance

With the end of Oktoberfest, it was time for some penance. We ran 2.7-3 miles, hit 9 different spots where I have had beers in the past and did increasing multiples of 1 burpee, 3 reverse crunches and 5 squats. Ended up with a total of 45 burpees, 135 reverse crunches and 225 squats plus the mileage. The 9 stops were:

Pour House, Rusty Taco, World of Beer, MPM, Chuy’s, the old Kona Grill spot (under construction to be Fogo De Chao), Burger Bach, Park Lane/Keegans, & ended at the old Halligans spot (under construction for something new). Ran out of time to do Dave & Busters and get to ten.

Announcements: Firehouse subs near Innsbrook next Tuesday at noon.

Prayers for healing, helping us find FNGs & my job search

Thanks for the opportunity to lead

  • Where is everyone?

After going all the way to five last week, this week we fell back to two, and it would be one if I would not drive Tonka with me. Where is everyone? Pig Skin had grandkids to take care of, but what about everyone else?

Anyhow, we went in opposite direction this week to the end of Three Chopt road, but still did 11s: Hand Release Merkins on one side and Squats on the other (sorry, I am not very original). By the time we got back to the Flag the time was up. Total distance 3.5 miles.

  • So many people

We had a crowd! Five instead of regular three. We have not done 11s in a while, so this is what we did after some running: Merkins on one side and Squats on the other. On the way back it turns out we had extra time left, so we went around the lake and did three rounds of 20 derkins, 20 dips, 20 Freddies. Back to the flag with total distance around 4 miles. Great job everyone!

Sorry for a delay… I am working on it.
