  • What’s in that bag?

14 dudes ranging in age from 13 to 50 plus decided to enjoy a nice fall morning at Northern Short Pump with a slightly more cardio centric beatdown.

COP on a nice wet field: DQs, DMH, Helicopters, HRMs, MCs, FMs, arm circles Mosey to track. I am carrying a bag. What is in there?

Go round the track. 1/4 the way – 1 burpee, 1/2 the way – 2 burpees, 3/4 the way – 3 burpees, fully around – 4 burpees. Mosey to nearby road for:

Curb crawl with 2 squats per merkin go up to 5 wait for all PAX to finish then go down to 1. Mosey to bus loop.

Now I reveal what is in the bag I am carrying and it is… discs for disc golf. But…we did not just play disc golf. I incorporated it into a triple check with disc golf the second person doing WWIIs, the third person doing flutter kicks. Seymour showed some accuracy with a near hole in one on the third round. Mosey to chin up bars.

10 chin ups then 20 dips, 8 chin ups then 25 dips then 6 chin ups then 30 dips. Mosey to burpee hill.

4 sets of burpees, first set is 5, then 6, then 7 then 8. Then a set of 10 diamond merkins. Mosey to benches near football field.

Set of elevens with 2 count step ups and heels to heaven. Mosey to home base. Set of American hammers and then stretching because most of us are AARP eligible.

Prayers for Handshake’s niece who needs 0 negative blood badly. If you have O negative blood and can donate, please reach out to Gypsy to see how you can help. Prayers also for Fudd’s sister, my full recovery and for Gyspy’s ankle. Also, Whitesnake is covering the Pixies, rather Whitesnake’s band is covering the Pixies tonight at the Canal Club tonight. Lastly, Tater is hosting a celebration on 9/6 for soon to be married Pinto and Gypsy (no they are not marrying each other). Thanks for letting me lead!

  • No Crazy Train today

15 of the West End and Midlo’s finest including a new KBer met up at MG to endure a Fireman Ed beatdown.

Fireman Ed thought of an Ozzy themed workout for a few seconds and thought better of it.

COP: DQs, helicopters, merkins, plank jacks, FMs, phelps the arms out. Lots of mumble chatter with White Deer leading the way.

Mosey to bus loop: Perform lunges until Gypsy complains, do more lunges. Mosey to pump road curbs.

10 lawnmowers each arm, 15 lawnmowers each arm, 20 lawnmowers each arm. Mosey to front of school.

Triple check with run around parking lot, high pulls and swings. Mosey to pump road curbs.

Death crawl (bear crawl with coupons) back and forth twice. Feel the burn. Mosey to bus loop.

Overhead pulls 10, 15, 20. Mosey to home base.

Finish with stretches cuz most of us are old. Coffeteria although slightly delayed was good as usual.

Prayers for Roger Roger and his wife, Fudd’s sister Mary, those doing dry July and Handshake’s niece. This Saturday Gridiron is at Lake Anna marina 7 a.m. – see Tater for details. Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Down!

14 Pax said “It is humid. It is hot. Should I go to Gridiron? Why not?”.

COP: DQs, Jazzercise, Invisible jump ropes, merkins, MCs, LBCs.

Mosey run with merkins. This is where we found out that despite his size Tater has quite the high decibel yell. The intent was to jog and then do 10 merkins when called. Some of the PAX had trouble hearing me so Tater took his degree from the school of the hard of hearing to yell “Down”. Two instances of this bellowing cry was heard from many a pickleballer causing temporary panic amongst them. Ended up at the bus loop.

One burpee per pole to first path (~12 burpees). Next section – 3 squats per pole. Third section – 3 wide grip merkins per pole. Mosey to tennis court.

Triple check with audible: Bear crawl to end of 2nd tennis court, run to end and back, 2nd PAX: flutters, 3rd PAX: heels to heaven. Audible when 2 folks showed up to actually play tennis (go figure). Run back after bear crawl. Da$n it is hot out! Mosey to field with the most shade.

Four corners – modified prostitute style Cumulative 10 diamond merkins, 20 WWIIs, 30 plank jacks, 40 SSHs. Wet field had a nice cooling effect but we are not sure what wetness is sweat vs. the field. Mosey to playground.

2 sets of 20 PLTs. Followed by triple check of run around Mr. Roger’s long time loaner car (swear he has had that for 6 months), elbow plank, and derkins from the swings. Finished with a set of ab exercises and at the strike of 8 I was cooked.

Prayers for Fudd’s sister and family, Roger Roger’s recovery, Pigskin in Honduras, those staying the course with dry July and those affected by the flooding in Texas. The Bridge is on 7/19; see Slack for details. Also, Gridiron on 7/26 will take place northwest of Short Pump at Lake Anna. Enjoy your weekend.

  • Tapioca Pudding and Kale Salad

12 dudes, mostly regulars with a couple newbies and a celebrity guest who usually does not go this far west came to lift some weights. It felt weird not seeing Attila but we had a Handshake appearance so I call that even.

COP: DQs, helicopters, ACs, diamond merkins, plank jacks and LBCs. Mosey to bus loop.

11s with presses, halos with a rifle carry in between. They say if you can’t do it don’t Q it. Well that is what I did. I started faltering on rifle carries after a few sets of these. Good shoulder workout nonetheless. Gypsy gets major credit for throwing around a monstrosity kb.

Lindseys: bench presses and triceps. Triceps are now feeling real good. Mosey to benches.

Leg time with 11s of step ups, lunges and squats. Lunges were taken out eventually due to time constraints.

The title of the backblast came from Handshake’s question about the type of jello/pudding that old people like to eat and a passionate Magnum PI reference to Kale Salad. Magnum is a republican who loves kale salad. Imagine him handing out kale salads at a Maga rally. Good job on the mumble chatter and for pushing through lots of reps.

Dry July, convergence at Atlee on 7/4 (hopefully it is cooler up in Daville), Bridge on 7/19 (see Whitesnake for details). Prayers for coworkers of Roger Roger (welcome back), Fudd’s sister, the world avoiding war and Magnum’s friend preaching the gospel.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Homer is becoming a Ute

15 chiseled behemoths of power alternated between Tomahawk Park and Short Pump Middle School. They did not all arrive at 7 but that is OK. The morning went something like this.

COP: DMH, DQs, ACs, sumo squats, merkins, plank jacks, Freddies. Mosey to main field.

Cumulative exercises with # corresponding with yard line (well there were no yard lines so it was a guess).

10 HRMs, 20 WWIIs, 30 2 count Mountain Climbers, 40 squats, 50 LBCs. Mosey to front of school. Lots of mumble chatter throughout.

Triple check with run around oval, donkey kicks and flutter kicks. Mosey to adjacent field.

Four corners of fun: Cumulative 10 burpees – 40 total, 20 shoulder taps, 30 jump squats and 40 heels to heaven. The humidity was kicking in like a mo fo at this point. Mosey to chin up bars.

I got this exercise off Chat GPT for Father’s Day. 21 dips, 9 chin ups and 15 2 count step ups. I was supposed to play Springsteen but I did not have my phone with me. Mosey to playground.

Finished with American hammers and stretching cuz that’s what old people do at the boneyard.

Deliverance on Wednesday at 5 a.m. – Huguenot Flatwaters, Dry July and Magnum is raising funds for his trip to Peru. Prayers for Magnum’s friend, me, Fudd’s sister and Roger Roger. For those who don’t know Homer is leaving the humidity of Richmond to hang out at the University of Utah. Rumors are that he needed a football program to root for and Utah can be a good squad. Good luck Homer!

Thanks for letting me lead, Attila for taking us out and for coffeeteria where we can learning the 5 stages of pee color.

  • 1000th RVA post for the ageless wonder! Pigskin not me.

12 studs of varying ages – well varying from age 45 to a lot more than 45 descended on the back end of Mills Godwin’s high school to lift weights so we can look like Nitro from Convergence. At the end of our workout we found out that Pigskin made his 1000th post in RVA today. Not too shabby.

COP: DQs, helicopters, merkins, MCs, Plank jacks, Fudd’s wife (as a greeting to Fudd when he showed up late – White Deer was a little too excited for this exercise), FMs and LBCs. Mosey to bus loop.

Doras with 50 2 count side lunges (w/ coupon), 100 triceps and 150 calf raises. Mosey 30 feet.

Triple check which took multiple minutes to explain. Coupon bear crawl, sit and press and bench press. Most gave it their best effort; others were discussing features of the anus. Mosey 20 feet.

Run around curb as pacer, exercises include squats, sumo squats, curls, halos and coupon flutters. Mosey 60 feet to benches

Partner up – partner one takes both bells and does shrugs and partner 2 does 10 2 count step ups. 3 sets. Mosey to home base. Counterama.

Prayers for Roger Roger, Fudd’s sister and my last infusion tomorrow. Summer tour is in motion and look to participate in Breaking Bread this year. See slack for details on summer tour and breaking bread. Coffeeteria was good as always. Thanks Offshore, Mr. Rogers and Lighthouse.

  • I remembered all 18 PAX, does that make me young?

As I arrived at the Circus and saw Upchuck, EF Hutton and Lockjaw I thought to myself “Did First Watch go west?” The after a horde of regulars and a visitor from SOJ (State Farm) I thought “Oh sh^t I need to remember all of these names”. After a short COP (DQs, helicopters, merkins and Freddies) and dodging of a few incoming cars (including a couple of teenagers who thought the parking lot speed limit was 40 and finally slowed down after 10 seconds of our yelling) we started our workout.

E1: Mosey to the track area. Lindseys with high pulls and curls. I thought the high pulls would be difficult but the curls were killing me. I had no idea the track was so popular so there was so more car dodging.

E2: Another Lindsey with squats and lawnmowers (one count). a bit of mumble chatter about how to handle odd # of one counts between two arms. Mosey to basketball court.

e3: Bear crawl across court with kb; lunge back with kb.

e4: Mosey and do 3 sets of sit and press (10, 15, 20).

E5: Mosey back to front of school. Rifle carry and do 3 sets of calf raises (10, 20, 30).

E6: Head to home base (near the coffee): Finish with sets of swings, american hammers, bench presses, coupon flutters and DMH.

All of us likely know of the CSAUP this weekend. Also a folk music concert (ask Whitesnake for details) and May 10th is the bridge (meet at Wawa in Westchester Commons at 6 a.m. I believe). State Farm wanted to give thanks for being able to start/promote F3 up in Pennsylvania. Prayers for Fudd’s family, Roger Roger’s surgery and my treatment tomorrow. We had 18 strong today and I did not need my phone to remember everyone. It would have been less stressful if I used my phone but whatever.

Thanks for all of the PAX and for letting me lead.

  • Keeping the Peace for all Pickleballers

On the eve of Easter, 11 of our finest mature gentlemen converged on an Easter themed workout. We noticed two unmarked cars and a marked car gracing us with their presence. Was it for us? No it was for the following Pickleball tournament.

COP: More jumping than usual. Inivisible jump ropes, SSHs, HRMs, MCs, DQs, FMs. Mosey to field.

E1: Partner 1 broad jump burpees, other partner runs most of the way down the field and back. Switch until both reach the destination.

E2: Partner 1 bear crawls, Partner 2 bunny hops switch at 25 yards at 50 yards do lunges until the end.

E3: Wheelbarrows switch at 25 yards, run the last 50 yards.

E4: Dora with 100 merkins, 200 WWIIs, 300 jump squats. Mosey to back of school.

The main event. The Easter egg hunt while crabwalking. This took a lot less time that I anticipated. Tater came out as the winner with 9 eggs. Free coffee for him. Mosey to chin up bars.

10 chin ups 20 dips, 8 chin ups, 20 dips, 6 chin ups, 20 dips, 4 chin ups, 20 dips, 2 chin ups, 20 dips. Mosey to home base.

Triple check with wall sits, flutter kicks and run around most of the parking lot.

Ended with a few ab exercises and stretching.

Don’t forget the CSAUP in early May. See slack for details. Also, Whitesnake’s Pixies tribute band, Here comes your Band will be at the Canal Club tonight. Prayers for Fudd’s family, Roger Roger and me. I am doing pretty well though. Good job White Deer with your attempt to recruit a police officer to join F3, even while we were doing APDs. Thanks for letting me lead.

Fireman Ed – let’s see how bad the Jets mess up the draft this Thursday!

  • Fifty Two

I Q’d on my birthday. 10 Pax descended on the friendly confines of the land of pickleball but no pickleball for this crew.

COP: DQs, DMH, ACs, merkins, FMs. Mosey to main field.

E1: 4 corners cumulative with 13 HRMs, 26 heels to heaven (3 sets of these were kinda rough), 39 jump squats and 52 SSHs. Mosey about 50 feet.

E2: Doras with 52 burpees, 104 2 count flutter kicks and 208 LBCs. Mosey to benches

E3: 4 sets of 13 derkins with 13 2 count step ups. Mosey to burpee hill.

E5: After PAX tried to convince me that the hill was renamed LBC hill, I told them we had so far only done 26 burpees so we needed to do 26 more. We accomplished that OYO in 4 sets. Mosey to chin up bars.

E6: 3 sets of chin ups and tricep dips. First set 10 and 20, second set 9 and 18 and the third set 7 and 14. Mosey to playground.

E7: Triple check with shoulder taps, WWIIs, and lunges across parking lot and run back. For some reason this exercise had some grumbles. Finished with stretching.

Prayers for Pinto’s friend and his family, Fudd’s sister and family, Roger Roger and me. I am doing well overall (praise god) but prayers that I can manage a medication side effect. It was good to go to coffeeteria and we even had someone ask Chum and Jville for help to try to fix a large car dent with a suction cup. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for allowing me to lead.

  • Thankful to be Q’ing again

After a hiatus to take care of treating my cancer (which has gone well overall so far) I was back again leading the PAX with some kettlebell workouts. Admittedly I did drop 5 pounds in kb weight; otherwise I would have struggled more.

    The workout went like this:

COP: SSHs (just kidding I don’t do those for COP), DQs, helicopters, DMH, HRMs, MCs and FMs. Mosey to back of school.

Doras with a theme of 52 (upcoming birthday): 52 sit and press, 104 bench press and 208 LBCs. Mosey toward other side of school. 2 sets of 13 lawnmower pulls each arm.

4 corners: 13 burpees, 26 high pulls, 39 curls (I struggled on this one) and 52 coupon squats (gotta build those legs for pool season). mosey back; 2 sets of 13 lawnmower pulls each arm.

2 sets of 13 triceps and swings combo.

Finished with coupon wall sits and a couple sets of halos.

Gypsy is hosting a help him with chainsaws, shoot stuff and drink beer on 3/22. Hope everyone has good medical insurance and a good time. I will be Q’ing on my birthday on 3/29 at Gridiron. Attila took us out in prayer; it was good to see everyone out there. Also enjoyed coffeeteria ala Offshore; Al Gore would have been proud of our discussion.
