  • Sunday Ruck

4 Ruckers took to the streets around Mumford to find some hills and good conversation. Variations in footwear, ruck styles, and attire did not slow us down.

Doozy got a good tour of the area in the light since he is only familiar with the 45Mom area in the dark. Main discussion centered around whether the ghost of Marcel Marceau still haunts the streets of Windsor Farms at night.

Sunday afternoon ruck the afternoon of the Super Bowl is on the calendar. Come and burn some calories before the big game.

  • No black ice to be found

4 runners took off wary of black ice and poor road conditions. All we found was bitter cold wind instead.

Gomer did his Walking thing while other 3 did:

pump to falconbridge all the way to Ridgefield. Ridgefield to Pump then loop around school.

    Handshake took us out.

  • The 3 Day Rule

8 PAX became 9 when we had a First Watch first timer PAX drive into the COP, like literally, to make for a Triple Check friendly beatdown.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey down Burpee Lane to covered area for Triple Check: HRMs, Squats, & run.

Head over to main lot for Curb Crawl: burpees instead of merkins, up to 6. 3 Rounds of PLTs for Handshake.

Over to other side of lot: Crab Walk across then lunge back. Mosey over to Coupon drop zone.

Triple Check #2: Block Thrusters, Boat & Canoe, run the loop. Back to flag for quick American Hammers finish.

    Splinter took us out.

Announcements: There is still time to get a generator before this weekends Snowstorm, just call Handshake.

NMS: Lots of quality mumblechatter this morning as always. We were in the normal front of church COP spot when we had a car almost pull into the group. Turns out Steamer was determined to find us. He parked and then joined us for the fun.

Lots of whining about the crab walk, even after the burpee curb crawls. Oversharer award goes to Bacon Bits, who beat out Handshake in a close call. As to the BB title, this may or may not pertain to a certain rule in Splinter’s household about length of time between when he can mention a certain ginger-Press Secretary. Happy Kiss-a-Ginger Day!

Welcome Steamer, via Mimi, to his inaugural First Watch post. Glad to have you back out for 2nd time this week.

  • Finding your safe space at school

Three PAX came out to Heartbreak Ridge to see who would be the fist to bite it on the ice. Instead we stayed safe and had some fun:

COP in loading dock area, perfect for only 3: Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Mosey over to bus loading covered area.

3 rounds of Donkey kicks & Merkins. Run length of school then more exercises on other side. Mix of Mtn Climbers, boxing roaches, B2W, Peoples chair, & other fan favorites. Finished with a bear crawl length with stop for merkins every pole. Back to COP with a safe mosey for some Derkins and Step ups. Then back to the flag.

Announcements: It’s cold and time for a nap.

NMS: HBR is not only a great AO 52 weeks of the year but it is a solid option in bad weather. Bus loading area is covered and plenty long. YHC guessed that we did more mileage than Spider Run this morning. Aye!

Glad to have Pigskin and Handshake make it out. Roads were decent but parking lot of QMS was 100% ice. Handshake was hoping for some sledding on the namesake hill but getting over there would have been difficult.

  • No Q, no Handshake, No Problem

Five faithful came out to HBR wondering was Pigskin not on the Q? He’s still being safe so we took off at 5:30 with a Hot Potato.

COP (Honeydo): SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Freddy Mercurys (no Scorpion kicks since Handshake wasn’t there)

Over to tables next to COP: 3 sets of Box Jumps and Derkins. Over to covered side for 3 rounds of Donkey Kicks & Jump Squats.

Over to PES back playground: 4 rounds of Pullups and WWIIS. Pass Q to Lighthouse:

3 rounds of run lap on track & Flutterkicks. Mosey over to Heartbreak Hill. Bear Crawl up, 10 WWIIs, & down. Then Crab Walk up, HRMs, next Bernie up then 10 Burpees. Q over to Fudd:

Down to concession stand: 1 min B2W, 1 min Peoples Chair, some plank. Over to bleachers for jumps and hops over then 2 min of Mary. Gomer took us out.

NMS: Fun PAX this morning with some regulars out but some vets from other AOs in their place. Bacon Bits was grinding after being sick last week. Gomer keeps up well for a guy who can’t run.

Prayer Requests: Gomer Pyle’s family with in-law Aunt passing. Also prayers for Upchucks family with MIL passing.

Annoucements: HDHH tonight at Hardywood. Bring a pair of shoes get a beer on Vagabond!

  • Who is the out of state visitor with the white beard? Can it be Santa?

16 regulars came out on a clear winter morning to see who the jolly visitor with the white beard was. Some thought it was Santa, but found a better surprise when Toga joined us in the Gloom. We did:

COP on blacktop: SSH, Don Qs, Hillbillies, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks

THE THANG: Stay on blacktop for some 4 corners:

11 at each corner: Round 1: Merkins, Round 2: V-Ups, Round 3: Burpees. Then 2 rounds of 22 PLTs.

Mosey over to Coupon Drop zone, hoping we had 6 or more blocks to use. We had just enough for a Triple check: Mtn Climbers, Squat Thrusters, run loop. Mosey over to 3rd back lot for: Wheelbarrows, Crab Walk, Lunges, and Bear Crawl. Mosey down to TES lot for Bearrows: 4 HRMs at each arrow and bear crawl the loop.

Over to flag for 1 min of Mary. COT and YHC took us out.

NMS: Last 2 times Toga has posted at Hoedown YHC has been the Q. Is he timing his family visits to RVA to get a Honeydo beatdown?? Always good to have him back in RVA. Many PAX were expecting a Fudd sighting as well, maybe later this week.

11s on the 4 corners took a while to hit the theme but EF Hutton figured it out. 44 Burpees was just enough to warm us up. We learned that Bodos checks our Coupon drop zone daily to ensure proper coverage. Always good to have Kubota post on a non-Wednesday and happy birthday to Libby!

Good times at Starbucks after with a good group.

  • 1 PAX, 2 Legit

8 studs made it out to a pre-Thanksgiving beatdown. Temps were in the 20s but all but 1 PAX were SOP. The other one rocked some sweet 90s hammer pants.

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey down river to Gaymont. Stop for 10 burpees, keep going for stops of Merkins, Squats, WWIIs, & others. Onto University then back to RRbC parking lot.

3 rounds of PLTs, Dora 123 of: Merkins, Jump Squats, LBCs. Mosey back to Coupon drop zone: 50 presses, 40 swings, curls, and ASPs all while completing the loop.

2 min of Mary then done. Kubota took us out.

Announcements: Alt-History lesson at 6:00 at 45Mom. Circus Maximus at 7:00.

NMS: Nice crowd of FW regulars and Gomer Pyle joining us, an army of one, in anticipation of an FNG who never showed. With no FNG YHC opted for a jaunt off campus, which was a departure from YHCs claim of the beatdown being headlamp discouraged. The moonlight was ample though. Good times at coffee after with 5 total since no school today.

  • These blocks still have some life left in them

Seven strong swung over to HBR for a beatdown. We did:

COP: Invisible Jumprope, Don Qs, Hillbillies, Merkins, Flutterkicks.

Mosey to covered side- Aussie Mtn Climbers. Head over to tennis courts. Bear crawl across court, run 2nd court, then 20 merkins. Repeato with Crab Walk, Bunnie Hops, & broad jump burpees.

Over to basketball court: 6 HRMs at each hoop, alternate bear crawl and lunge between the 6 hoops. 2 rounds of benchkicks and Dips. Over to DK wall for some more Aussie Mtn Climbers. 3 sets of 20 PLTs.

Down to the coupon drop zone, grab a coupon then onto field. Partner up: Murder Bunny length of field while other pax runs length and back & flapjack. 2 rounds of Block the Plank.

Drop coupons then another 2 rounds of Derkins and benchkicks.

NMS: Crisp morning with regular group of HBR veterans. We did have whole AO to our own with no 5.0s, other workout groups, the one walker on the track pretended we didn’t exist. Bacon Bits apparently is on the Q sheet with his VQ coming soon to First Watch. YHC looks for him Q’ing at HBR soon as well.

YHC tries to call Hand Release Merkins whenever both Atilla and Handshake are both there. Lots of whining about how broken and dirty the coupons were, the frost should have killed any poison ivy on them. Anyone who gets a rash can submit their complaints to HR.

  • MCF morning at Hoedown

13 Hoedown regulars and 1 out of towner from Raleigh found it easier to take on the Gloom with the time change. Majority of PAX were there 5 minutes early, even Handshake arrive at 5:25. With a call for 10 pre-beatdown merkins we took off to 3rd’s lot for COP:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Russian Soldiers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks. Mosey to office building for 4 corners: Accumulating style: 10 WWIIS, 20 Merkins, 30 Jump squats, 40 LBCs. Over to Coupon drop zone. Triple check of Scissor Sisters & run the loop. 20 Merkins after.

Mosey down to Triple check loop for proper one: Balls2Wall, Heels2heaven, & run loop. Once the lights were on in the parking lot head over for Bear-arrow loop. Bear crawl arrows loop with 8 merkins at each arrow. 88 in total.

Over to flag for few minutes of mary + 40 more merkins getting us to 238 count for the morning. COT and YHC took us out.

NMS: Several pax were anxious to see what the Honedyo Q would look like. Kubota wasn’t there to find out. Good to have Burt join us from F3 Raleigh. He’d never seen Scorpion Kicks before but afterwards said it was a keeper to take back to Raleigh. Good to have 14 out at Hoedown!

  • Anybody motivated to run?

3 PAX came out to Currahee in the first day of below freezing temps of the season. YHC took the Q with a lead from behind directions style. Route: Left down Pump, turn L on Falconbridge and over to Deep Run, around lake and back via Ridgefield. 3 min of stretching and then COT.

NMS: YHC pulled in first at 5:26 and wondered whether this would be a cold Solo run. Luckily Handshake and Gypsy pulled in to make the gloom tolerable.
