  • Beware of flying kettlebells

Nine needed to get their day started right and posted to the Circus.  Some posted without Kettlebells, others without gloves but we got after it:

COP:  Hillbillies, SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks, Don Qs.

Stay in Circle and grab KBs:  10 Snatch each arm, burpee, then 20 High Pulls.  Repeato dropping by 2 on Snatch & High pulls but increase burpees by 1 until down to 2.

Triple check:  Run lot and back, Lunges w/ double bells, & Sit & Presses.  Then some Boat & Canoe.  Head over to back of school for Lindsays:  Donkey Kicks, bear crawl, & KB Swings.  Back to side lot:  2 sets of Skull Crushers & Pullovers, and WWIIs.  Finish up with Freddy Mercurys and American Hammers.

NMS – YHC started his day by realizing he put his KB by his car but not in his car as he pulled in to the lot.  Luckily White Deer travels with spare KBs and we were off.  Good to see Tonka back out after recovering from a torn Achillies.

Jville posted with no gloves and managed to drop his KB on the ground a few times on the snatches.  Guess he is not used to that much snatch… During the triple check ample fumes were traded from White Deer and Keymaster, 2 of the more noxious PAX members in RVA.  Good to have Kubota and Keymaster out at CM and 9 is a good showing.

    The F3 Nation GrowRuck

    What, you ask, is GrowRuck?

    It’s simple: GrowSchool + GORUCK Tough challenge. In one weekend, you’ll get, 1stF + CSAUP + 2ndF + F3 Leadership Development & Training.

We rolled out GrowSchool in November 2016  as an offering for F3’s “Nomads” — workout locations that are on their way to becoming Regions and can use a little support and encouragement along the way.

After teaching through a couple of GrowSchools, we started to realize how important CSAUP events are to building 2ndF and the overall momentum toward a region. And no CSAUP event that we’ve ever seen has the same catalytic effect on 2ndF and F3 growth as F3 guys getting together to do a GORUCK Tough challenge.

So, we thought, why not combine the two?

GrowRuck will be led by GORUCK Cadre Daniel and will be in all ways an official GORUCK Tough challenge, but Daniel will tailor activities and the teaching to reinforce the GrowSchool curriculum and lessons. Dredd and Slaughter will participate in the challenge alongside the rest of the pax.

Over the last year we’ve had almost 300 men complete the GrowRuck in Jacksonville, Eastern North Carolina, New Orleans, Seattle, Chattanooga, Toledo, and Memphis.

    T-Shirts

A GrowRuck T-Shirt will be included with your registration.

    Gear

The most frequent question asked when an F3 group begins to look into doing the Challenge is “do I need to buy a $300 backpack”. The short answer is no. A GORUCK ruck is not required, but GORUCK Rucks last — FYI: the Rucker model ($265) goes on sale from time-to-time & the F3 Ruck Club will have discounts that may work for the Rucker, depending on the month. Contact Winnebago at F3NationRuck at the end of the Pre-Blast. The 511 Rush 12 is a $99 version that some guys use. The 511 Rush 24 is slightly larger and slightly more expensive. Also, many guys pick up second-hand rucks at Army surplus stores, eBay, or Craigslist.

Another option is to Tweet with the hashtag #LendARuck and tag the @F3GrowRuck account in your tweet asking for a ruck, and someone from the F3Nation will answer the call (kinda like the Bat Signal) and ship you his ruck to use. In return, you’ll wash it and send it back to him with a sweet F3 Lend-A-Ruck patch.

Besides a ruck, you’ll need some bricks for weight, a headlamp, reflective PT belt, and a hydration bladder.

    Lodging

Lodging recommendations will be provided soon for traveling PAX.

    Next Steps

    1. Sign up on Google doc above and follow @F3GrowRuck

  • More NC visitors

Six strong posted to Gridiron.  Bogey, from NC, was waiting to receive his first RVA beatdown.  We did:

COP:  SSH, Hillbillies, Merkins, Don Qs, Scorpion Kicsk, Flutterkicks.  Stay on main field for some Benchwork:  4 Rounds increasing by 5 starting at 5:  Derkins & Box Jumps – run width of field between exercises.  Down to SPMS for:

Triple Check:  Donkey Kicks, Reverse Crunches, & run loop.  Head back to Jerkin bars:  Descending Jerkins: 10 down to 1.  Then 3 Sets of PLTs, 10 Burpees for Chum, head to shelter- 2 Rounds of 30 Dips & 10 Step ups.  Back to main field:  Sprints to the 50, 75, and 100.  Finish with Bear Crawl to mid-field then back to flag for 2 min of Mary.  Atilla took us out.

NMS –  What better way to ensure you post after Thanksgiving than to sign up to Q.  YHC arrived to see Bogey streching out and met Quest.  Good to see Atilla back home from his trip to AL this week.  Jville lamented the Donkey Kicks during the triple check after doing a ton on Thanksgiving at CM.

The RVA PAX were happy to introduce Bogey to Jerkins.  He immediately groaned once we started and swore he will import the Jerkins back to Chapel Hill.  Thanks to Handshake’s VQ earlier this week for the idea of the 10 down to 1.  Bogey’s in-laws live in RVA so hope to see him back in the VA gloom in the future.  Atilla was quiet today, likely still stewing in the Hoos loss last night to VT, I hope you got you dead car figured out.  Sounds like Earthworm is recovering well from surgery.

Coffee after was great to get to know Quest, who was not EH’ed but heard about F3 on a podcast. Happy to see you becoming a regular at Gridiron.

  • Tuckahoe’s newest AO

3 non-SOJ’ers came out on a brisk 28 degree morning to Twin Team to enjoy the company of the SOJ PAX.  With no SOJ PAX to be found the 3 did their best to sweat out their Turkey day excesses:

Mosey to JRHS lot for COP:  SSH, Imperial Walkers, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks.

Triple Check:  Donkey Kicks, WWIIs, run to stop sign & back.  Head across to parking lot.  Bear Crawl up but stop for Merkin ever parking spot.  Back down with Crab Walk & 3 Reverse Crunches per spot.

Head over to main lot- Increasing Burpees at lights, 1 up to 8.  Freddy Mercury and then head up to BWES field for 11s:  Merkins & American Hammers.

NMS:  YHC arrived at Twin Team and found Sir Topham Ham from CLT waiting.  Conspiracy arrived to make it 3 but we all were left to wonder where the SOJ regulars were.  It isn’t unusual for Mr Holland and Flipper to represent Tuckahoe at Twin Team but today was just 2 West Enders and our CLT visitor.  YHC was left to wonder were the Black Friday deals on chicken feed, starter jackets, unnecessary golf carts, & EZ Pass transponders too tempting to pass up?

Sir Topham Hat posted in shorts making it 2 SOP’ers in the 28 degrees.  Conspiracy went the opposite direction with a good 3 layers to make Wilson proud.  Sir Topham Hat lead the way on the exercises, always good to have him back in his hometown.  At the end he gave a resounding endorsement for the GrowRuck and gave a soft commit for attending ours in March, aye!

Enjoy the quiet Friday today, Go Hoos and come celebrate UVA ending the losing streak to VT tomorrow at Gridiron.

  • MCV is cloning rats now I guess

27 came out on a frost morning with FNGs and out of town visitors we had a lot of ground to cover:

COP –  Imaginary Jumprope, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Imperial Walkers

Head to Carillon field – Bear craw width, 20 merkins, crawl back then 10 more.  Crab Walk across, 15 WWIIs, then back and 10 more WWIIs.  Wheelbarrow across, switch partner and back.  Head over to the Rusty Cage for:

5-10-15-20.  5 Pullups, 10 Jerkins, 15 Dips, 20 Jump Squats.  5 Rounds through. Then head down Pipeloop with just enough sunlight to allow for:  Triple Check – Run loop, Elbow Plank, & Reverse Crunches.  Merkins at the end to get count up while waiting.

Mosey past Love Hill and Bernie Sanders up grass hill, run rest of way to brickhouse – Derkins on the wall until all pax arrived.  Then 15 Burpees per Honeymoon’s request.  Back to flag & 2 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS – YHC arrived to find the RVA version of Lab Rat giddy with excited.  As PAX arrived the NC version of Lab Rat ran in.  Yes there are 2 Lab Rats in F3 nation apparently.  Luckily RVA Lab Rat had to leave at 6:30 to avoid the confusion.  PAX were left to wonder if those 2 partnered up would it cause a ripple in the time-space continuim.  The NMRC (New Market Rucking Crew) arrived with headlights and rucks on having earned some extra credit before 6 am start.

Welcome FNG Brexit, who put in solid work and also great to see Toy Store on his 2nd post in the week after his first post at 45MoM 2 days earlier.  Bone Thug keeps getting stronger.  Handshake remarked how the pipeloop was just light enough to see how dangerous it was to run on the trail with all the wet soggy leaves. During the Triple check the PAX were cleared out for a Lyft of Shame to pass through.

Kubota showed up sick as a dog and 2 shades green, he bailed a few minutes in after being up all night with sick kids.  He gets the bad idea of the day, feel better brother.

Annoucements – Prayers for Earthworm has he recovers from surgery this week (YHC forgot to mention that), 45MoM is at 6:00 am on Thanksgiving.  Handshake’s VQ is Tuesday at Heartbreak Ridge.  Come out to one of RVAs finest AOs if you have not been there and heckle (support) him. FNG Brexit has a mens group that meets monthly, similar F3 vibe without the merkins:  https://league-extraordinary.squarespace.com/2810

  • Early voting, the F3 way

Nine came out to settle the election day the F3 way: Burpees and Merkins.  2 PAX (1 FNG) were underage to vote but participated just the same:

COP – SSH, Helicopters, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Invisible Jumpropes.  Mosey to Heartbreak Hill.

Battle for the House: Split up PAX into 2 groups.  Group 1 were dubbed Republicans, Group 2 were dubbed Dems.  218 total to take the House so 218 Burpees total amongst each group while 1 PAX runs up & down Heartbreak Hill.  First to magic number wins the House.  Republicans took the House (they had an extra member)

Battle for the Senate:  Stay in same groupings, race to 51.  First man to get to 51 Merkins (good legit merkins) raise their hand and claim the Senate.  Seymour won it for the Rs again.

11s for the Old Dominion:  VA has 11 congressional seats so 11s consisting of: Box Jumps & WWII Situps.  Down to the Jerkin Gym:

7th District:  4 Sets of 7 Jerkins.  Then early voting by Garbage Plate for Benchkicks got us:  50 Benchkicks and 7 Derkins, 2 rounds.  Back to crowded parking lot for some Mary and then COT.

NMS:  YHC couldn’t resist an eleciton day theme but not sure the 218 Burpees for the House worked very well.  Many a groan was heard when we altered the Merkins to Hand Release in the COP, breaking the seal on the wet ground.  FNG Wah Wah is a friend of YHC’s 2.0 and expressed interest in posting today, good work.  He is a Trombonist (Tromboner??) in the Freeman band so think Wah Wah in the Charlie Brown adulted muted speaking sort of way.

Great to see Ronnie back out.  He said this was his 2 year anniversary, 1 year of which was on the PUP list.  Ponch was back out at HBR and P-Trap is officially a regular in the PAX. Also great to see the line of people and cars coming & going to Vote as we ambled around the AO.

Annoucements:  Go Vote & Be Nice today.  Also GrowRuck is 3/22-3/24 2019.  Mark your calendars.

  • So…. what do we do until 5:30??

Eleven West-enders came out to HBR for some HRMs and other fun the day before Halloween.  We covered a good amount of the AO by:

COP:  SSH, Don Qs, HRMs, Freddy Mercurys, LBCs, Imperial Walkers, Scorpion kicks.

Back to the main parking lot –  Rows of 2 and proceed around the lot, exercises on every arrow.  First side – Bear Crawl and 5 HRMs, then carioke & 2 burpees to other side.  Then finish with Crab Walk and 10 WWII Situps.

Then head up to blacktop behind school for Dora 123.  100 Hand Release Merkins, 200 Donkey Kicks, 300 Jump Squats.  Gotta hit the Jerkin Gym – 3 sets of 8 then finish up with one last AMRAP set.  Back to flag for 2 min of Mary.  Atilla took us out.

NMS- YHC arrived around 5:20 to find Hank Hill securing the AO.  A few more PAX came in, but then at 5:27 Mr Holland pulled up for what has to be the earliest YHC can remember.  He gets out of the car and it was kind of awkward as he seemed to think the PAX does something before starting at 5:30, having never been in this situation before.  YHC was temped to tell him we do Upright Alabama Prom Dates until starting at 5:30 but then more cars rolled in to give us another double digit HBR PAX.

Good to have P-Trap and Hank Hill continue to post, getting stronger each week.  The 100 HRMs got ugly after the first round, you know it is bad when you’re glad to get to Donkey Kicks.  YHC also learned that Handshake can knock out some Jerkins with ease.

After the COT LeTigre expressed interest in getting on the Q sheet, now if we can get Bromance in on the VQ action too! Overall the PAX put in solid work to earn some well deserved candy tomorrow night.

Annoucements – YHC forgot to mention the November Merkin challenge.  5,000 for the month, or more if you are Swirly…

  • (John) Deer watching Kubota

3 runners, 1 rider, and a 2.0 hit the roller-coaster in the Wednesday evening heat.

Kubota and Husky did a loop then went off to church. YHC did 3 loops, each loop seeing more deer. Lug and TYA were not spotted but vehicles were spotted by YHC.

  • 5.0 is in our spot

9 strong came out to enjoy the perfect fall weather with 65 degrees and clear skies greeting the PAX at Heartbreak Ridge.  It went like this:

COP:  SSH, Don Qs, Merkins, Helicopters, Freddy Mercurys, Imperial Walkers (aka upright freddy mercurys??)

Mosey to Pemberton loop – Dora 123 of 100 HR Merkins, 200 Jump Squats, 300 LBCs.  Back to front of middle school for some bench fun:  10, 15, 20 of:  Box Jumps and Derkins.  Then head down to Jerkin Gym: 3 Sets of 8 Jerkins.  Quick trip to Heartbreak Hill, up 1 time 10 WWIIs at top, back down then 10 Burpees at the top.  Back to Jerkin Gym for 2 more sets of 8 then back to flag for some Mary.  Loose Goose took us out.

NMS – Great to have 9 out this morning.  Good mix of newer PAX and HBR veterans.  YHC arrived early to find Handshake having secured the AO but 2 of Henrico’s finest parked in our normal parking spots.  They stayed there until 5:28 then sped off, having entrusted the AO to the PAX.

The 100 Hand Release Merkins caused some groans from the PAX during the Dora.  YHC continues to find a use for that Pemberton side of the AO but so far not much luck.  The Jerkin Gym was extra fun with fresh cut grass to stick to your shoes and any other body part that came in contact with the ground.  YHC finally got to meet LeTigre, he put in solid work as did all the PAX.  Good to see Loose Goose back out at HBR.  Apologies goes to Garbage Plate for us not getting in any Benchkicks, I know he was looking forward to those.

Announcements:  CSAUP run on 10/20 and October challenge of Run a mile daily are up.

  • A fitting location to remember 9/11

Seven Stalwarts showed up to carry the shovelflag around and enjoy the fog. First we did a lap with the flag in solidarity with the other RVA AOs. Then we did:

COP- Ssh, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Reverse Crunch, Imperial Walkers. Mosey to Pemberton ES side to check out new construction. Totem pole leg raise then Burpee Arrow loops and back to QMS. 5 Box Jumps & 10 Derkins.  More rounds increasing each by 5.  Stop for 25 WWII Situps.

Down to Jerkin Gym- 4 sets of 8 Jerkins. Then 3 times up Heartbreak Hill with Jumpsquats at top. Back to Jerkin Gym for 2 more sets of 10 Jerkins. Back with Flag & some Mary.

NMS- Vinnie made sure all the AOs kept Old glory on display this morning. YHC thought of some theme ideas to remember 9/11 but instead for a standard beatdown. In the COT YHC was glad to bring up Alysia Burton, a fellow WM grad from my year, who died on 9/11.  She attended Byrd MS and when they renamed the school recently there was talk of naming the school after her. YHC thought it a nice tribute to honor her memory at Heartbreak Ridge along with others.

The trip to Pemberton side of the AO was uneventful as there isn’t much there so why not knock out 30 burpees. The Jerkin Gym grass had recently been cut so all our shoes got covered in grass. Mumble chatter was light as the humidity took it out the Pax.

Announcements – Convergence 9/22 and Csaup run next month on 10/20.
