  • Saab saves Christmas

Five left the AO and were met with a runner joining as we crossed River. After normal COP spot and stuff we went down River to Gaymont. Stopped for WWIIs, then at bottom of hill time for a Triple Check: HRMs, Reverse Crunch, & run up hill. Mosey up to top of Gaymont and then down to Kubotas road with stops to do a Burpee for any outdoor Christmas lights.

Stop at Site Qs house for Dora 123: Merkins, Squats, LBCs. Back up Ralston to River. Stop a few spots along the way for some Mary. Back at parking lot: 2 Rounds of PLTs then 2 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: It was 3 PAX at 4:59 and Hitch & Handshake pulled in to make it a dreaded 5 PAX. The Q took off for the COP cursing the prime number 5 but then something arose out of sight: Saab appeared out of nowhere to make it an even 6 as we hit the COP. We stopped at Kubotas for the Dora assuming he was at he was away but apparently he was home while we were outside. No neighborhood children were woken up from sophmoric mumblechatter so not a repeat of last week. Nice to have 6 PAX out to start Christmas off right.

    Merry Christmas!

  • Cold Weather Gloves season

Eight strong started their December off in the Gloom and were met with temps in the 20s.

COP of basics. Mosey down Hepler with some stops along with way for Merkins, WWIIs. Get to end of Hepler. Partner up for Dora123: 100 Merkins, 200 Jump Squats, 300 LBCs. Mosey across Forest over Spottswood. Stop for more Merkins, Heels 2 Heaven. End up in 3rd Parking lot. Bear Crawl halfway, run to end then Merkins. Repeato x2 but Crab Walk & lunge.

Back to parking loop. Double check of run loop & Ball2Wall, Peoples chair. Finish with 3 min of Mary. YHC took us out.

NMS: Was great to see Senior Frog waiting when YHC pulled in. Sounds like he had a long eventful trip to the South Pole, congrats SF! Oyster was pestering Bodos to setup a meeting with the Mayor Elect to petition for some heated-outdoor Pickleball courts in the City. Good to have Vandalay out at Hoedown.

  • Fudd for Five

Five came out to Hoedown with the time change. We started with 4 but Fudd joined us in the COP.

COP: SSH, IWs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks.

mosey to 3rd parking lot for 4 corners. 1st round: Merkins, WWIIs, Heels 2Heaven, SSH. 2nd round: 10 Merkins, increase Merkin count by 5.

Over to Walgreens lot. Alternate 1 Burpee and 5 Squats each spot. 2nd round 10 Merkins & 5 Jump Squats.

Mosey back to front of TES. 3 rounds of PLTs. Some other Ab stuff. Run parking loop and Balls 2 Wall. Finish with 3 min of Mary.

NMS: RVAs darkest AO was still pitch black with the time change. Solid group this morning. Merkin count was 200.

  • He came out just to watch

Twelve PAX came out to find out what a Joint Q of Horny-Shake would look like. With a long initial mosey here is how it went down:

Tag Team COP: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Scorpion Kicks – Correct and incorrect, Flutterkicks.

HD: Mosey to PES bus loop. Split pax and each 6 do Pole Smokers up the way with end guy doing 5 Merkins. All the way up.

Handshake: Sprints and various exercises back & forth. No sneaky name of this, maybe a modified Michigan, call it: Upper Peninsula.

Honeydo: Over to PES track for Triple check: Heels2Heaven, Squats, & run a lap.

Handshake: Driveby past the Tomatoes workout group, to QMS bus loop. Attempt at HSKT but Pax wasn’t buying it. Cover the stench of shame with some Donkey Kicks and Dirty Hookups. Over to the DK wall in back.

Honeydo: 10 Burpees, 2 min of Mary. Back to flag.

NMS: With no Q last night YHC asked Handshake if the Bash Brothers were exclusive or was he allowed to Joint Q with other pax. The idea of a Tag Team COP was birthed. It was kinda awkward when EF showed up as the other Bash Brother to see Handshake share the Q with another guy, especially since EF is normally a Spider Run regular.

Glad to have Limey back up posting in RVA for a few days, he rounded out the PAX to the perfect Dozen count. The ladies were back in the PES lot, their temperature range seems to be very narrow as they take off the summer and winter months. You know it’s good company when the mumblechatter naturally flows from Pregnancy Scares in to Economic Choice theory seamlessly.

  • A welcome visit from an OG

An energetic eleven PAX found a perfect fall morning for a beatdown. We were blessed to have a F3RVA legend Toga join us, he flew into town just to catch a Silent Assassin beatdown at Tuesday’s best AO. YHC tried not to disappoint.

COP: SSH, Ukrainian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion Kicks.

Mosey over to front of PES for Triple Check: HRMs, Heels2Heaven, run loop (short or long) then over to back of PES and partner up: 5 rounds of 8 Pull-ups and WWIIs. Long mosey down to QES track to benches for everyone’s favorite: 4 rounds of 40 Benchkicks and 15 Squats.

Over to the Jerkin Gym: 4 rounds of 7 Jerkins. Finish up with 5 trips up & down Heartbreak hill. Stop at bottom for 1 burpee. Increase burpees up to 5 after each trip. Back to flag for 1 min of Mary. YHC took us out with Prayers for Fudd’s sister & family. Also prayers for PAX struggling at home right now, please remember No-OYO brothers.

NMS: Always great to arrive at the AO and see an old friend. Toga is always welcome back in RVA and he usually steals ideas from us to pass of as his in Nashville. Was great to have him in the Gloom with us again.

Solid group of 11 this morning, YHC wanted to work the arms this morning and we did with Pull-ups, HRMs, and Jerkins. Most of the mumblechatter was Handshake trying to upsell his goofy Hoedown ideas from yesterday but the PAX were skeptical.

Announcements: West end lunch today at Firehouse Subs in Innsbrook. Also Whitesnake’s band is playing on Saturday 6-9 at Kindrid Spirits Satelllite room (next to Hardywood downtown location).

  • Feel the burn… in your Rectum

Nine dedicated PAX saw the forecast and came out to HBR anyway on a muggy morning. We did

COP: Normal stuff, sans Scorpion kicks.

Mosey up to PES lot, assured the ladies group would not show with the rain, and we did: Triple Check of: Jump Squats, Heels2Heaven, run length and back. Over to PES playground for 4 rounds of 8 Pullups and WWIIs. Head over to Benches for 3 rounds of 40 Benchkicks & 5 Burpees.

Over to basketball court for 10 HRMs each hoop and alternate Bear Crawl & lunge between baskets. Finish up with 4 corners of: 10 WWIIs, 20 Heels2Heaven, 30 American Hammers 2x cnt, 40 Reverse Crunch. 2nd round add 5 to each stop. Back to flag for 3 min or Mary. YHC took us out.

Annoucements: 10 Year on Saturday morning. Pre^36 workouts start tomorrow morning, your mileage may vary.

NMS: Tater asked the Q what his plans were to keep us dry and quickly learned YHC rarely has any set plan. We did stick to the pavement but still got plenty wet. YHC opted to skip Scorpion kicks in the COP but the HRMs later made sure we finished up 100% soaked. BB title came from Senor Frog regretting his dinner choice from last night during the Benchkicks. It was unconfirmed whether a Shart on the benches did actually occur…

Mr Rogers continues his Christmas beard prep, we may need to request that Splinter add Santa Claus as an Alias for him. One of the HBR regulars, who shall go unnamed, texted YHC and said he forgot to set his alarm. Likely he was afraid of a Silent Assassin beatdown.

  • No more Seersucker allowed

Eight stalwarts came out to HBR, no Summer Tour points to be had, just for the fantastic weather in the gloom and the promise of Scorpion and Benchkicks from YHC. They were not disappointed:

COP: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Ukrainian Soldiers, Merkins, LBCs, Scorpion Kicks.

Mosey over to PES parking lot: Dora 123 – Merkins, Jumpsquats, LBCs. Over to pull-up bars area: 4 rounds of 8 Pull-ups while partner does WWIIs. Down to the track and grab a bench: 3 rounds of 40 Benchkicks & 10 Derkins. Visit the Jerkin Gym with 4 rounds of 8 Jerkins. Trip up Heartbreak hill for good measure then back to the flag.

NMS: We saw Senor Frogs truck in the lot but he was pulling a Gypsy with a pre-run. He came in hot from the other side in the COP. Always good to Q at Tuesday’s best AO as there is so much you can do.

Announcements: 10 Year Anniversary in 2 weeks. See Slack for details.

  • How close can we get to Boshers?

Five Friday kayakers took to the river for some combined 1st and 2nd F. Weather was perfect. All left saying we should have more River Happy Hours…

  • CSAUP Training

Two hardheaded PAX met at Lararus Park to get some BRR training miles in on a Thursday afternoon. As soon as we got out of our trucks the floodgates opened up. We took to the trails and spent the next several miles doing some good Steeplechase training through streams on the trails.

Always good to hit the trails with Shakedown!

  • Debby doesn’t do Richmond

Six strong PAX came out anticipating getting soaked. Instead we were treated to a refreshing light rain and an old school beatdown:

COP on blacktop: SSH, Don Qs, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Scorpion kicks. Over to tennis courts: Dora 123: 100 Merkins, 200 Reverse Crunch, 300 SSHs. Switch Partners and grab a spot on the grass for 3 rounds of 20 PLTs. Mosey over to soccer field for Triple Check: Carolina Dry Docks, WWII Situps, & run width of field & back. Over to dip bars for 3 rounds of 8 Jerkins.

Back to flag for 2 min of Mary.

NMS: Great morning to be out in the Gloom with some old school RVA brothers. YHC was expecting a deluge from Debby but all we had was some drizzle while we got after it. Good to see BT, Swirly, and Shakedown out at 45MoM. With the perfect 6 pax number we had to do some Triple Check and Doras.

Lot of mumblechatter about last minute BRR training and looking back on BRR training miles and pace of younger years.
