  • Starting 2017 off right

A feisty fourteen (including 1 FNG) said no to the fartsack, yes to the rainy gloom at Punisher to get our year started off right.  Some LBCs were offered up to the PAX in the January challenge but got oh so much more Ab work

COP –  SSH, Merkins, Imperial Walkers, LBCs, Arm Circle

THE THANG – Triple Check –  Plerkins & Running.  3 sets. 100 LBCs oyo.

Mosey to basketball court.  Partner up, Wheelbarrow width of court with 10 Derkins at end.  Each partner goes.  Repeato.

Four Corners – 5 Burpees, then 10 Merkins. Finish with 50 LBCs.Mosey to front of school for:

Honeydo’s Favorite Things–  Donkey Kicks, Bear Crawls, and then do some running. 10 Donkey kicks, bear crawl 20 yards, run to street and back.  Increase Donkey kicks by 10.

Partner Leg Toss –  3 Sets of 25 each man.  Then mosey to space in front of street for Burpee Shuffle modified.  PAX calls out number 1-3, cannot repeat previous number.

COT & Lab Rat took us out.

NMS –   Color YHC impressed, 14 on a cold rainy morning!  Looks like the PAX was itching to get the first beatdown of 2017 in the books. And we got after it.  Toga started off the mumblechatter with the query of what theme of the day was, alas this was a 100% on the fly Q. Good to have Lab Rat back in the gloom in RVA.

The Plerkins Triple check is the perfect trifecta of exercises for Triple Check.  No slacking off on the peoples chair or flutterkicks.  Elbow Plank with someone’s feet on your back is never easy, and neither Derkins.

LBC count for the day was 190.  YHC wanted to get some PLTs instead.

Good to see Spit and The Carpenter out at Punisher, although Spit started off the Burpee shuffle with a 4 count Burpee call out. This lead Upchuck into the best Monty Python YHC can remember in the gloom.  In fact we should consider calling the 1-2-3 Burpee Shuffle the Holy Hand grenade of Antioch shuffle.

Nice work from Statomatic, posting in the rain in January for your first time is legit.  What a pleasure to lead this motivated PAX this AM.  We got 2017 off to a strong start and know the RVA PAX will do even greater things in this new year.

No talk of goals this AM but YHC will throw out his F3 goals, put your down in the BB so it is in writing:  Honeydo –  Post 180 x’s in 2017.  Q at least 40 times.  Aye!

  • Pre-blast: Trail Run Monday morning Jan. 2nd

With school in session for the kids and a day off from work for some there will be a trail run heading off from Pump House at 9:00 AM on Monday 1/2. Tell your M this is a required run for Belmonte if need be.

    All are welcome to join.

  • Putting on the post holiday pounds, 40 pounds worth

Eleven RVA regulars and 3 visitors posted to WDOG for a mid-holiday week beatdown. The PAX found some leftover presents from YHC to play with.

COP- SSH,  Merkins, DQs, Freddy Mercurys, Helicopters.

Mosey to Rusty Cage, pick up a Sandbag, mosey back to Amphitheater. Partner Up.

1 Partner scales the Amphitheater steps and back with sandbag while other does exercise. Round 1- Overhead presses. ROUND 2- Flutterkicks with bag held up. Round 3- Squats. In between rounds Sandbag APDS and WWII Situp presses with SB.

Mosey to field. Lunge width of field with SB, drop it and run up carillon & back. Repeato.

Mosey to circle- Side lunges, APDs, Boat-Canoe, all with sandbags.

Mosey back to Rusty Cage, drop Sandbags. AMRAP Pull ups and Jerkins x2. Long mosey back to the flag. COT & Viral took us out.

NMS – YHC had given the PAX fair warning via Twitter about the Sandbag workout. 20 of them were waiting for the pax when we got to the Rusty Cage. The sandbags and PAX held up for the beatdown. YHC was concerned about someone throwing out their back, but instead everyone attacked the weight with gusto. YHC borrowed from his Circus Maximus Qs for Sandbag exercises. The Boat-Canoe and Alabama Prom Dates seemed to be a hit with the pax. Situp presses are just as awful with a Sandbag as a Kettlebell.

Mumblechatter mostly centered around how YHC managed to get 20 full Sandbags to the Rusty Cage awaiting the pax in the gloom this am. It is all in the Qs commitment to the theme.

Glad to see the familiar visitors back in Dr.Evil and Guinness. Always good to have you guys in town.

Announcements – Frozen Triangle CSAUP on Jan 21. Mark your calendars! Even the Hampton Roads guys are coming up.

Pleasure to lead this am and thanks to the Pax for trying something new.  The sandbags are staying there so anyone Q’ing is welcome to bring them out to play at Dogpile, until they fall apart or some recalcitrant PAX member slits them open…

  • Dwindling days of hate

A frosty five beat the fartsack on the longest night of the year to post to SOT. With school on break no diesel fumes to keep us warm we moseyd to front of school after YHC found a soft spot to plant the flag.

COP – SSH,  Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins,  Boat-Canoe, Arm Circle. Go to wall for 2 min of people’s chair.

Mosey to Basketball court for Hoop-O-Rama: 10 exercises at each of 8 hoops. Exercises were Merkins, Freddy Mercurys, Jump Squats, CDDS, Heels 2 Heaven, Tuck Jumps (aka Kangaroos). To finish we did 5 Burpees at each hoop. But bear crawl instead of run.

Mosey back for some Mary: American Hammers, Boat-Canoe, LBCs, then finish with Ring of Fire.

COT , Wilson took us out.

NMS – YHC wanted to Q SOT since he hasn’t been out there for a while. Was welcomed with a strong pax. Forgot what a great AO it is. Now that YHC is officially 39 it is just another short year to tolerate the hate in the COT.

Wilson and Honeymoon got more acquainted during the beatdown. With them living close to each other Wilson will have to go deep in the Fartsack excuse playbook to miss beatdowns. YHC was planning on using the track/field but was made aware of the 10 degree lower temp so we hung out on the basketball court for most of the beatdown. The burpees at the end were a hit, especially couple with the bear crawl. Always good to see Rosie smoked, a true sign that the Q has done his job.

We may not see Honeymoon out for a while as the pax tried to describe the phenomenon that is Man-o-Rama. YHC would love to say his RVA brethren is not always this goofy but that would not be true.

McRib shared he is playing at the Jefferson tomorrow afternoon. It sounds like they will be doing Christmas music but YHC believes there might a Footloose or other Loggins cover on the setlist. The band name is Kevin Bacon & the Riblets.

    HDHH at Triple Crossing tonight.

  • A beatdown that will live in infamy

14 faithful found their way to WDog on the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  So there is the theme for the day, here is what went down:

COP – SSH ,  Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Arm Circles.

Down to Amphitheater. In honor of 75th Anniversary:  75 Burpees, 5 each step on up 15 steps. Mosey to Carillon.

Partner up. 110 Merkins and 188 Box Cutters. 1 partner runs up and down Carillon. Finish with APDs  – Arizona Prom Dates.

Mosey to Rusty Cage.  3 Sets of 7 of: Pull Ups and then Jerkins. 7 being # of battleships sunk, 21 total ships sunk.

Mosey to field- Broad Jumps across, 21 Flutterkicks. Lunge back. Bear crawl acrossand back. lastly Wheelbarrow across and back, with 10 Derkins at end. Mosey back to the flag.

NMS – So YHC ran out of stats after the Rusty cage since the pax crushed the 75 Burpees. On the bright side after that start YHC may not be seeing TYA at any Qs in the near future.

Glad to have Lab Rat there to shore up any naval references.  the Arizona PDs were lost on some…

We learned that EF Hutton can broad jump faster than he can run.

Glad to see Toga back in the gloom with all he has been dealing with. You are still in our prayers brother.

Announcements – Weekly Thursday lunch is tomorrow, on Thursday…  Location is Pop’s Market on Grace at Noon.

Pleasure to lead this am. YHC loves WWII history and tried to keep this theme reverent. We are lucky as hell to be Americans and can always do more to remember those who fought for the blessings we take for granted.

  • Flipphone saves the day

A PAX of 1 initially posted to Circus Maximus on an unusually warm December morning. 10 minutes in another pax arrived later to push YHC.

Solo pax- 200 burpees, 150 pull ups on a tree branch, 500 Donkey kicks. Elbow plank to rest, Flipphone arrives.

Farmers Carry around loop. Cop- ssh, Don Qs, Flutterkicks, Merkins ,  Helicopters.

Parking space escalator – Start at 1 spot, 10 reps, lunge to next spot, increase by 10, up to 30. Exercises were : Swings, Halos, Squats, Cleans.

Mosey to grass. Boat/Canoes w/ KB for 2 mim.Elbow plank for 1 min. Run lap around loop. 30 Swings, 20 Tricep Press, 20 Rows each Arm. another set of Boat/Canoe. Alabama Honeymoons. American Hammers, 20 Situp presses,  10 Burpees to finish.

NMS- YHC estimates the solo part, not sure as he descended into madness quickly. YHC chose to forgo KB exercises, instead leaving it to rest as an inanimate PAX, ala Wilson from Castaway. Just as YHC was thinking of ways to draw a face on the KB Flipphone arrived, with his own (albeit borrowed) kettlebell.

From there we got down to business. YHC enjoyed getting to know Flipphone better. The boat/Canoe with the kettlebell was tough. that gets a burn going fast. Definitely need to add that to the CM rotation.

At 5:35 YHC was tempted to hop over to 45MoM but glad I stayed so Flipphone would have not been alone.

  • Beware of falling objects

5 RVA regulars and 1 from CLT – Huntersville posted to RAMM on a foggy and warm morning to jog of some of the Thanksgiving excess.  Temps were 50 degrees at the start.  Same route as last week.

5 Milers – Commonwealth to Monument, Right on Davis, Right on Cary back to MM.

6 Milers – Comm to Monument, Right on Allen, Cary back to MM

NMS – So YHC took Q again at RAMM hoping to put in some extra miles in preparation for Bear Creek.  Unfortunately YHC’s legs were not in agreement with this plan and neither were any of the other PAX interested in some extra miles past the 45 minute timeframe, excluding Sippy who jogs out & back anyways.

Glad to have Megaphone along for the run. He lived up to his name and made for good company for the 5 miles.  Even Lab Rat said he was chatty.  Hope to you can make it out to Dogpile tomorrow  while you are in town.

On Monument with the 2 other 5 mile PAX running on one side of the street we heard a loud crash on the other side of the street, right where TYA was running.  Believing he had finally spontaneously combusted we stopped to make sure all was right.  Turns out a large limb had fallen off a tree 50 feet in front of TYA on the sidewalk.  Who knew running on the sidewalk on Monument Ave is more dangerous than the RVA trails.

Sippy and Saab blew past YHC and Megaphone on Cary and made the 6 miles look easy as usual.

  • Who else drives a WDog truck?

A determined dozen posted to the cold, but dry, fields of NoToll on a brisk 26 degree morning. The PAX got right to it to get warm:

COP – SSH, Merkins ,  DQs, Freddy Mercurys   (done in Flutterkick variant style), Merkins again

Plank line up for Human Centipede. Elbow plank while end PAX Broad jumps up and over pax. 2 rounds.

Mosey to covered benches. 10,20,30 of 3 exercises. Dips, Derkins, and Box Jumps. Run field in between. mosey to bleachers. partner up. 1 runs field and back while other does bench kicks.

Mosey to new fence. 20 Donkey Kicks and 8 Polar bears, 3 sets. head to tennis court. Bear crawl 1 court, 5 Burpees, run next court 5 more burpees. 2 sets. Then Crab walk court, 5 Burpees, lunge next court. 2 times. mosey to Basketball court for mary: Freddy Mercurys  (traditional) & American Hammers.

NMS – A strange vehicle for NoToll was there when YHC arrived- a Woodfin truck, hmm, who else do we know who drives one since Swirly doesn’t post to NoToll since Spider Run began? Rosie and YHC pondered this  we waited for  the other pax to break the seal on their warm car and enter the Gloom. after some discussion Swirly emerged, good to have you back at NoToll.

Attire again was varied, some in shorts, some in layers. Gumbo had so much on YHC could not tell it was him until he spoke. Hardywood pussed out and wore a vest finally. Seriously no sleeves in 26 degrees? Did you give all your sweat shirts to Lost & Found?

YHC has been wanting to break out the Human Centipede at a larger Q but felt doing it at the 2.0 Gridiron was possibly inappropriate so the PAX got to try it with a dozen of us. 2 rounds of that got us going. YHC was out of breath for pretty much the rest of the beatdown.

Good to see Sin Bin out again, Rosie must have a special EH power since he texted him to come back out on a cold A$$ morning and he actually posted.

YHC did brain fart on the Freddy Mercurys in the COP, or maybe it was a test to see if the Pax are watching the Q. Consider this a pass Pax .

Mumblechatter focused around the need again for Winter Gloom gloves. it’s that time of year again where the hardest part of posting is the evening attire prep the night before…

Announcements – 60mom at Mumford at normal time on Thursday. YHC expressed interest in longer routes for RAMM this Friday with the lack of school and reduced work schedule for most. Chime in if you are game. Lab Rat?

  • 2.0 friendly, but not 1.0 friendly?

A tenacious ten took to Gridiron, including 4 2.0s.  With an age gap from youngest to oldest of 50 years a diverse PAX moseyed forward with:

COP –  SSH, Don Qs, Freddy Ms, Merkins, Hillbillies.  Mosey to front of school.  Balls 2 the Wall for 30 seconds.

Partner up- 1 partner runs loop while other does exercises:  Situps, Merkins, Squats.

Mosey to covered drop off zone-  Totem pole run.  PAX holds feet 6 inches while end person does 5 Leg tosses.  2 rounds through all.

Mosey to baseball field, plank up in line for human hurdles across width of outflied. Then head to home plate for Left, Right, center.   Stay with partner.  1 does AMRAP exercises while other runs to right field fence & back.  Switch when runner gets back.  Rounds were:  Merkins, Donkey kicks, Peoples chair, and LBCs.

Mosey back to drop off zone for quick Bermuda triangle:  Bear crawl 1 length, then crab walk, finish up with broad jumps.  Back to football field for 10,20,30.  Start on goal line, run to 10 yr line do 10 of exercise, then run back and to the 20, do 20 of exercise,  Same to the 30.  Rounds were:  LBCs, Jump squats, and Merkins.

Back to flag, Earthworm took us out.

NMS – YHC really enjoyed seeing 3 new 2.0s out at Gridiron.  Emmylou Hoo was slow to warm up as it must be intimidating to be a 6 yr old girl out in the cold with a bunch of boys.  Once she got going though she put in a ton of work and gave Nightcrawler a heck of a time keeping up with her .  Joey Chesnut and Pit Stop being 8 were both game for anything YHC threw at them.

There was some mumblechatter from the Respect crowd about the difficulty of this 2.0 friendly beatdown.  YHC’s only goal from this 2.0 Q was to avoid any awkward discussions about exercises with Ms later so stay clear of APDs, Pickle Pounders, Monkey humpers, etc.  Merkins were on the menu since the November challenge and also the reference is obscure enough to stay safely hidden from impressionable minds.

White Deer persisted with his normal instigating but with the 2.0s.  Lots of laughs.  The PAX all did a great job of encouraging the kids.

Cecil did a great job with the pre-game.  My 2.0s dug the armor references, that is bible study that can keep them interested.

Both Pit Stop and T-Swifty talked about the beatdown the rest of the day at YHC’s house.  YHC’s boys are already EH’ing their sisters to come and give it a try.  YHC greatly enjoyed leading this beatdown although T-Swifty immediately remarked his first post with Wedding Singer was much harder.  With a 7:00 start time at Gridiron and consistent 2.0s like Jolly Rancher YHC would love to see this 2.0 friendly become monthly event.

  • The PAX has voted… with their attire

Ten tightless travelers came out to run on a beautiful morning. 39 degrees made shorts routes only needed so:

4 Milers:  Commonwealth to Monument, Right on Belmont, Right on Cary

5 Milers: Monument to Davis, Cary back

6 Milers: Monument to Allen, Cary back

NMS: None of the TLM movement were in attendance so the normal 456 routes were offered. Lugnut asked before the start the 4 mile route so he could arm himself with an appropriate weapon against those pesky Pinecones. He opted not to bring his shotgun or broom, instead chosing to run carefully. Good to have you back Lug! YHC forgot to ask if Lugnut opted for the Zamboni feature on his new ride to sweep SOT of cones.

As soon as the PAX hit Commonwealth Saab took off with the normal 6 Milers Sippy and Marv keeping pace. Saab mentioned he got a tune up this week and said his mechanic gave him the all clear for higher mileage. YHC supposes being of Swedish origin Saabs are designed to run better in colder temperatures.

Splinter left YHC, Rosie, and Swirly on Monument and got some extra mileage in.

All 10 made it back safely again today, taking the count of weeks since last directional incident to 2. YHC was somewhat concerned about BackBay but he made it back fine.

Announcements- 45Mom is a full hour on Thanksgiving, normal start time. RVA shirts are up on the F3 Mudgear site.
