  • 2.0 friendly, but not 1.0 friendly?

A tenacious ten took to Gridiron, including 4 2.0s.  With an age gap from youngest to oldest of 50 years a diverse PAX moseyed forward with:

COP –  SSH, Don Qs, Freddy Ms, Merkins, Hillbillies.  Mosey to front of school.  Balls 2 the Wall for 30 seconds.

Partner up- 1 partner runs loop while other does exercises:  Situps, Merkins, Squats.

Mosey to covered drop off zone-  Totem pole run.  PAX holds feet 6 inches while end person does 5 Leg tosses.  2 rounds through all.

Mosey to baseball field, plank up in line for human hurdles across width of outflied. Then head to home plate for Left, Right, center.   Stay with partner.  1 does AMRAP exercises while other runs to right field fence & back.  Switch when runner gets back.  Rounds were:  Merkins, Donkey kicks, Peoples chair, and LBCs.

Mosey back to drop off zone for quick Bermuda triangle:  Bear crawl 1 length, then crab walk, finish up with broad jumps.  Back to football field for 10,20,30.  Start on goal line, run to 10 yr line do 10 of exercise, then run back and to the 20, do 20 of exercise,  Same to the 30.  Rounds were:  LBCs, Jump squats, and Merkins.

Back to flag, Earthworm took us out.

NMS – YHC really enjoyed seeing 3 new 2.0s out at Gridiron.  Emmylou Hoo was slow to warm up as it must be intimidating to be a 6 yr old girl out in the cold with a bunch of boys.  Once she got going though she put in a ton of work and gave Nightcrawler a heck of a time keeping up with her .  Joey Chesnut and Pit Stop being 8 were both game for anything YHC threw at them.

There was some mumblechatter from the Respect crowd about the difficulty of this 2.0 friendly beatdown.  YHC’s only goal from this 2.0 Q was to avoid any awkward discussions about exercises with Ms later so stay clear of APDs, Pickle Pounders, Monkey humpers, etc.  Merkins were on the menu since the November challenge and also the reference is obscure enough to stay safely hidden from impressionable minds.

White Deer persisted with his normal instigating but with the 2.0s.  Lots of laughs.  The PAX all did a great job of encouraging the kids.

Cecil did a great job with the pre-game.  My 2.0s dug the armor references, that is bible study that can keep them interested.

Both Pit Stop and T-Swifty talked about the beatdown the rest of the day at YHC’s house.  YHC’s boys are already EH’ing their sisters to come and give it a try.  YHC greatly enjoyed leading this beatdown although T-Swifty immediately remarked his first post with Wedding Singer was much harder.  With a 7:00 start time at Gridiron and consistent 2.0s like Jolly Rancher YHC would love to see this 2.0 friendly become monthly event.

  • The PAX has voted… with their attire

Ten tightless travelers came out to run on a beautiful morning. 39 degrees made shorts routes only needed so:

4 Milers:  Commonwealth to Monument, Right on Belmont, Right on Cary

5 Milers: Monument to Davis, Cary back

6 Milers: Monument to Allen, Cary back

NMS: None of the TLM movement were in attendance so the normal 456 routes were offered. Lugnut asked before the start the 4 mile route so he could arm himself with an appropriate weapon against those pesky Pinecones. He opted not to bring his shotgun or broom, instead chosing to run carefully. Good to have you back Lug! YHC forgot to ask if Lugnut opted for the Zamboni feature on his new ride to sweep SOT of cones.

As soon as the PAX hit Commonwealth Saab took off with the normal 6 Milers Sippy and Marv keeping pace. Saab mentioned he got a tune up this week and said his mechanic gave him the all clear for higher mileage. YHC supposes being of Swedish origin Saabs are designed to run better in colder temperatures.

Splinter left YHC, Rosie, and Swirly on Monument and got some extra mileage in.

All 10 made it back safely again today, taking the count of weeks since last directional incident to 2. YHC was somewhat concerned about BackBay but he made it back fine.

Announcements- 45Mom is a full hour on Thanksgiving, normal start time. RVA shirts are up on the F3 Mudgear site.

  • Pre-blast: 2.0 Friendly at Gridiron this Saturday

Bring your kids along to Gridiron this Saturday for 2.0 friendly beatdown. Milk and Cookies may be provided after.

  • HalloGloom

A frightening four came to Batteau on a warm Halloween morning. 58 degrees and breezy, perfect weather to sweat off the extra candy to be consumed later today. it went down like this:

COP – SSH, IPs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, DQs

Mosey to other side of stone house. YHC demo’ed the newly dubbed Human Centipede:  pax elbow planks in a line, last man broad jumps up then over pax until reaching front, keep going like Indian Run across field.

Team up for Dora. 100 Box Jumps, 200 Dups, 300 LBCs. Add instead of running runner bear crawls to tree and back.

MOSEY to tennis court.  modified beast- 2 stops across court, 8 reps:  Burpees, WWII Situps, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Mtn Climbers ,CDDs.

MOSEY down the hill. Run up hill 5 burpees at light, jog down. Repeato x3. hit 6 for Box Cutters and Heels 2 Heaven. Mosey down to bottom for Box Jumps and Derkins. 10, 15, then 20.

Back to the flag, American Hammers to finish.

    Flipper took us out.

NMS – Although YHC is a horror movie fan he has not seen any of the Human Centipede movies, so some of the PAX were wary of the initial  mention and demo. The exercise itself seemed to work and with more pax than 4 could be even more fun.

The Dora with bear crawl took a lot of time. The audible from incline Merkins to LBCs was applauded.

Hardywood was fighting off a sore hip the entire beatdown. Flipper enjoyed his chance to outrun  him during the hills.

Stay safe tonight, be sure to post tomorrow to burn off the sugar this evening…

  • Salmon: Healthy, but not Gloom friendly

A fearsome four posted to Circus Maximus on a beautiful fall morning. Temperature was 48, in between short sleeve and long sleeve temps.

COP:  SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Hillbillys (w/Jville flair optional)

THE Thang-  Mosey to back of school. attempt Merkin Rows into Side plank, audible to side palank with KB. then 5 sets of: Donkey kicks, 20 Swings, lunge, KB Hops, and Halos. 30 seconds of plank with KB drags.

MOSEY to field- Triple check. Run, Situp press, Cleans. alter to Dora- 50 Situp presses, 100 Swings, 150 Tricep presses.

Mosey back to parking lot for Chiabattas- Rows and Alabama Honeymoons. Finish up with American Hammers. Atilla took us out.

NMS- It was a PAX of 3 until 5:30 when Chum arrived to make us an even four. mumblechatter broke out immediately from the Gloucester gang during the COP, but subsided when Jville had to make a facility run 5 min in. Apparently he had Salmon last night and that did not go well with tossing around a kettlebell in the gloom. YHC thinks this after Wilson’s digestive issues at Dogpile last week means PAX should avoid Salmon before posting. Stick to Ribs and burritos, but I digress.

The side plank with KB high might be a keeper although getting it up repeatedly is unwise. YHC felt at liberty to tinker with KB variations with a small and veteran KB PAX.

Jville arrived back refreshed during the Triple  Check, moving us into a Dora.

Mumblechatter at the end was about how Atilla has a future in radio with his gruff and low voice. If we ever have a F3RVA event to broadcast a pairing of Marv and Atilla would be gold over  the airwaves.

The Circus Maximus regulars were missed today, even Toga.

  • Glowsticks, baseball, and Orion’s Belt

13 Regulars and 4 FNGs posted to Daville to gaze upon a star filled sky, play some baseball  (F3 style) and enjoy the gloom. Here is how it went:

Circle K pointed YHC to a field, Mosey over to field

COP: SSH, Merkins, Heels 2 Heaven, Don Qs.

Break out glowsticks to make a baseball Diamond. 4 stations, where the numbers added up to #  of years since World Series appearance. Count was 27 on 1st, 17 on 2nd, 17 on 3rd, 5 on home.

Game 1- Merkins, American Hammers, Shoulder Press, Burpees.  CUBS WIN

Game 2- PLTs, Mtn Climbers, Heels 2 Heaven, Burpees.  INDIANS WIN

Game 3- Jump Squats, Plerkins, Alabama Prom Dates, Burpees.  CUBS WIN

Game 4- CDDs,  Freddy Mercurys, WWII situps, Burpees. CUBS WIN

Game 5- Merkins, AmericanHammers,  Shoulder Press, Burpees. INDIANS WIN

Game 6- PLTs, Mtn Climbers, Heels 2 Heaven, Burpees. CUBS WIN.

    Celebrate with 15 Burpees!

Mosey to parking lot. Polar bear 50 yards. Mosey back to flag, Ring of Fire Merkins. YHC took us out and Tigger did as well.

NMS- YHC tried to make his maiden voyage to Daville count. Whether the PAX did 4 to 7 “games” depended on time, 6 was about right. It has been a year since glowsticks made it out on a Honeydo Q but Circle K remembers from past beatdowns and knew the PAX was in for some fun. After YHC declared game 1 for the cubs some pax began to root for the 4 game sweep, alas the Indians made it a series.

It has been a while since Partner Shoulder Presses made it into the gloom, and Plerkins are a hit in Daville now too. YHC lucked out to partner with Chapstick on the presses as he weighs at most 130.

Welcome FNGs Atlas, Hurst, Tigger, and Sparky. Each of you put in a strong effort today. As well be warned if you ride a bike, or even just own one, in Hanover Abacus WILL EH you.

It was a pleasure to come out and Q this fine group of men. YHC has not met some of this PAX enjoyed the warm welcome. Tigger’s words at the end were a great way to start my day, it is powerful to see someone new articulate what an awesome thing we have here in RVA with F3, Aye!

  • American-Mexican Relations Are Perplexing

A Terrific Twelve turned up for WDog for another cool fall morning in the gloom.  The PAX knew it was trouble when YHC brought out the headlamp.

COP- 15 of SSH, Mtn Climbers, Freddy Mercurys, Merkins, DQs. Mosey to field for: Bunny hops and butter kickers, x2. Then Karaoke across x2. Mosey to Rusty Cage.

Pull Ups and Chin Ups. 4,6,8 then back down to 4. Then Jerkins, 2 sets of 6 each: overhand and underhand. Back to Pull ups. AMRAP with partner, 2 times  then AMRAP Jerkins x2.

Mosey to Carillon for Triple check. Plerkins  (Elbow plank and Derkins on partner back) while runner goes up and down Carillon.

Mosey to field for Honeymoon Suite: Diamond Merkins  (focus on triangle placement ), APDs, Monkey Humpers, more Diamond Merkins, the ln Pickle Pounders. Finish up with Circle Burp. Mosey back to flag.

COT and BackBay took us out.

NMS – YHC learned upon arrival he was the topic of discussion at Spider Run yesterday, thanks Splinter. At least that lead to a legitimate chance to use a Lebowski quote in context. YHC was also surprised to see TYA post, given his longstanding aversion to YHC’s Qs, maybe he has heard Honeydo Qs are getting soft, and we can’t have that.

The PAX spent most of the beatdown in the dark at the Rusty Cage. There was some confusion as to how the 468 was to work but the PAX figured it out. On the 2nd round YHC made the call to AMRAP the pull ups to which some PAX wondered what that meant. Apparently we do not AMRAP enough exercises and YHC will aim to fix that. Also PAX be warned there is a written part of Corporate re-certification that pulls heavily from the Lexicon.

This 2nd iteration of the Triple Check using Plerkins was a hit again. YHC made a crucial miscalculation by partnering with PAX member with tree trunks for legs making the plank all the more painful.

The Honeymoon Suite produced very ltitle mumblechatter this time, even with the addition of the Diamond Merkins. Either the PAX was spent by then or the HS has outlived it’s cache. Also good to see Peaches out 3 days in a row this week, Aye!

Announcements- be sure to EH and sign up to help with a Hampton Roads beatdown in November. DK is leading a 2.0 friendly Gridiron this Saturday.

    1. Pleasure as always to step out and lead this am.

  • 100s for Saab

Seventeen sweaty and soggy faithful posted to Dogpile for yet another rainy and humid beatdown. Theme for the day was 100 in respect to our brother Saab undertaking the Cloudsplitter today.  It went down like this:

COP:  100 SSH, 100 Merkins, 100 LBCs.  SSH were IC.

Mosey to field:  100 PLTs, each partner 4 sets up to 100.  Then Elbow plank – Indian run to end of field.  Then Burpee Road, but escalating.  All the way up to 8 burpees at the 8th streetlight.

Mosey down road to right.  Partner up again.  Bear crawl across street and up hill to top & back while partner does Donkey Kicks.  Switch and repeato.

Mosey back to Burpee road.  Same thing 1-8 increasing burpees at every streetlight.

Mosey to Carillon.  10 burpees more.  Partner up again.  Run up and around Carillon while partner does Freddy Mercurys.  9 more burpees.  Mosey back to the rcircle.  American Hammers then round out to PAX’s 100th burpee.  Mosey back to the flag.

NMS:  YHC enlisted some help from the PAX to call out Cloudsplitter during exercises to change the count to 100.  Lab Rat, always game, started with the 1st call at SSH.  100 of those in cadence is awful.  Calling cadence throughout is even worse, but when compared to running 100 miles today not so bad.

The rain started back up during the PLTs.  YHC actually enjoyed the rain as it washed off the grass and other muck hitting my face while knocking those out.  YHC was impressed with all the ground the PAX covered that Fudd was able to follow directions without the usual diagrams and printed instructions sometime required.

The Bear Crawl / Donkey kicks proved to wipe out the PAX.  YHC decided to run down the hill the first time and proceeded to wipe out hard at the bottom.  The audible to 2 rounds instead of 4 was well received.

The rest of the beatdown was a blur of burpees and rain.  Way to hit the 100 burpees PAX!  Mumblechatter centered around Saab’s race today of course.  During the burpees back on the road Trophy lamented his choice of attending a Honeydo Q.  YHC savors those comments.

What was even better was seeing Receptile, Flatline, and Taxi Cab posting again.  Great to have some energy from the recent FNGs in the PAX.

Announcements:   Convergence next Saturday, 2 hour.  The 6:00 show is totally different from the 7:00 show.  F3 Hampton Roads kicks off 1st week in November.  See Jville for more details.  Lab Rat has issued the Oct monthly challenge to run 1 mile every day.  There was some debate on whether beatdown mosey’ing counts but the challenge required contiguous (not necessary straight line) running of 1 mile.

    Good luck Saab!

  • A reminder it still is Summer for one more day

A faithful five disregarded the rain and humidity to post to the gloom for one more summer beatdown. 74 and very humid, it felt more like July than mid-September. Here is what went down:

COP – 25 SSH,  20 Merkins, 20 Flutterkicks, 20 LBCs, 15 DQs, 15 IWs. Grab a spot on front of school wall. Touch a tree, but first 20 Donkey Kicks. Then repeato but add 25 merkins, then repeato and add 30 Freddy Mercurys, then same but add 35 Jump Squats.

Mosey to bball court. Wheelbarrow across width of court, switch. Each PAX does it twice. Then 4 corners of court. 2 laps with increasing Burpees, up to 8.

Mosey to benches. 10 RL step ups, 15 Merkins, then LL step ups, 15 Merkins. REPEATO.

Mosey to front of school for some Mary. WWII Situps, Flutterkicks,American Hammers, lbcs.

Then Sprint 2 laps around scholarship loop. COT.

NMS: Splinter and YHC clown car’ed to Punisher and were debating whether we would be only ones. Luckily when we arrived Toucan had arrived to secure the AO. With 1 min to spare Offshore and Goldberg came in to make it an uneven 5.

The PAX commented on the comfortable grass at Punisher. We did make use of the wet grass plenty. During the TaT there was some discussion as to whether the saplings counted as trees. YHC reminded all it was UvsU.

Still 1 week out from BRR YHC’s quads have PTSD from the NC hills. Goldberg says his toe is somewhat better but you can tell he is in pain, he still gritted it out the whole beatdown. Toucan continues to push hard, keep it up man. The humidity was definitely a challenge this am

Pleasure to get back on the Q with this group.

  • A fitting messy tribute to Grunge

Twenty “Teen spirited” tallboys took to Dogpile on the 25th anniversary of Nirvana’s debut video on MTV.  For the Silver anniversary occassion YHC requested the PAX show up in Grunge garb to enjoy another themed beatdown.  Temperature at 6 was 84 with high humidity, not ideal for extra flannel layers, but still the PAX persisted:

COP – 30 of all exercises to note 30 million albums of Nirvana’s Nevermind.  SSH, Merkins, Flutterkicks, IWs, Arm Circles.  Mosey to Amphitheater for

Modified Beast – 6 sets of exercises, 6 for each step, up to the 6th Step.  6 also was the highest that Smells like Teen Spirit peaked on the charts.    Box Jumps, Derkins, Tuckjumps, Dips, Mtn Climbers, Carolina Dry Docs.

Mosey to field for Pearl Jam tribute, their first album was Ten so of course we did:  10 Minutes of Burpees.

Mosey to Rusty Cage (aka pull up bars) for 5 sets of partner Pull ups (4) and Balls to the Bar (5).  Mosey to Carrillon for Alice in Chains triple check-  Plerkins (1 PAX planks while other puts feet on back to do Merkins) while 3rd PAX runs up and back down Carrillon steps.

Back to the flag for some Mary:  Freddy Mercurys, LBCs, Cross Leg lifts, Russian Twists.  COT & Flashdance took us out.

NMS – This theme’s genesis goes back to RAMM several months ago, at least 8 months since YHC was running with Rosie which he has not been able to keep up with for at least that long, in discussing music and the fact these Grunge albums us late-hate somethings grew up with are now 25 years old or more.  YHC did some research and determined Smells Like Teen Spirit’s video debuted this weekend so signed up to Q and pleaded to the PAX for plaid attire.  Well done in responding F3 RVA.  However flannel long sleeve shirts and August summer heat do not mix well as this was one sweaty beatdown.

Mumblechatter was high during the 10 min of burpees, who knew so many PAX hated Eddie Vedder.  One plus of long sleeves is Elbow plank is much better on the arms, there may be some method to the madness of Wilson, who at the end mentioned he might need YHCs speaker for a future beatdown theme.  Looks like the seed has been planted now we will have to see what he comes up with.

The Balls to the Bar did well this 2nd time out, that one could use a better name but the exercise is here to stay.  The Plerkins/Triple check was a hit as many PAX mentioned their displeasure with the new Plerkin exercise.  YHC encourages all to take that ire on to Offshore for introducing that to F3 RVA at Punisher this week. Also great to see Best Shot back out, hope to see you back out again soon!

ETs afterwards went on for what seemed like a record amount of time with, as usual, a wide array of topics ranging from Lab Rats graduation party, capital murder, circumcision, HR policies, and of course BRR. TYA was there as well with his drone to do some taping.  We’ll see what he was able to record.

Pleasure to lead this AM, thanks for going along with this loose flannel thread of a theme!
