  • Breaking in the new trail sections

10 strong and a triple-hate FNG started their day off on the trails.  It was 40 degrees and a hint of rain as the PAX started off on Northbank.

THE THANG:  Northbank – Belle Isle – Buttermilk loop.  The PAX ran up the new section of trail on Buttermilk.

NM:  YHC was pleased to see such a great turnout this AM for the trail run.  Although the forecast called for rain overnight the trails were just about perfect and the PAX saw nobody else on the trails until Buttermilk.  Not a single biker in site, Aye!

Splinter set the pace and proceeded to burn through the trails well ahead of the PAX.  Rumor has it he had church plans and needed to knock out the miles quickly.  YHC believes after completing the 8th and final workout of the Corporate Challenge this week Splinter was heading back for some well deserved rest.  He took FNG D-Day along for the run, as D-Day being 18 can keep up.

The rest of the PAX stayed together.  It is great to see Oyster and Aisle 5 knocking out the miles consistently.  YHC was dismayed that Offshore was not wearing his platform shoes again for the run, although his duct-taped pants made up for part of it.

There were rumors of a fleet footed assassin closing in on the PAX as we moved along the trails, as Saab chased us down right at the end after being LIFO to start.  Hope the back feels better.

Topics of discussion on the main group covered respect for Rosie and Splinter for doing the full week workouts A.k.a the Corporate Challenge.  Respect to both of you, Aye! Now there needs to be a F3 RVA shirt for completing it, alongside the long awaited Double Dip shirt.  These shirts cannot be purchased, but rather earned…

Additional benefits of completing the Corporate Challenge according to the PAX:

    1) 5 excused absences to be submitted to Swirly-F3C, good for 6 months

    2) Early entry Hot Tub passes for the BRR after-party house

    3) Guaranteed reserved double bed for BRR first night hotel

    4)  Your selection of either:  A pair of TYAs short-shorts from the 70s OR Offshore’s spring shoes

    5)   A better understanding of what Swirly feels like every sunday!!

Other trail run notes:  Rosie continues to grow out his beard, apparently after visiting Spain he thinks he resembles the Most Interesting Man in the World with his graying beard.  Alas no amount of gray can help you avoid Hate in the COT.  Lastly Lab Rat shared with the PAX that when he passes a runner going the other direction he looks directly at their junk, well at least for guys he does… be sure to post to DaVille to learn more. D-Day was given his name by his lack of talking, being that EF Hutton is already taken.  On second thought Bizzaro-Lab Rat could have worked as well.

YHC forgot to close out the PAX in prayer today, please forgive me.  Good work this morning men!

  • Another audible Q thanks to the snow

Four faithful braved the snow to start off their Presidents day right at Punisher.  It was snowing and 21 degrees.  Here is how it went down:

Mosey to field for COP:  40 SSH, 20 merkins, 20 DQs, 20 IPs, 20 Mtn Climbers.  Mosey to basketball court:

Partner up: 1 partner does Elbow plank while other runs to end of court, does exercise then run back.  Switch.   Round 1: 20 merkins, Round 2:  20 Tuck Jumps, Round 3:  20 Carolina Dry Docs, Round 4: Jump Squats

Stay on Bball court:  Broad jump width of court, lunge back.  Repeato.  Partner up.  Wheelbarrow width of court, switch partner.  Repeato.

Mosey to front of school.  Grab a spot on school wall.  20 Donkey kicks, run to street, 20 merkins run back.  Round 2:  BTTW hold for Q, run to street 10 Burpees and back.  Round 3:  20 more DKs, run then 30 Flutterkicks, back.  Hold plank for 30 seconds.

Mosey back to playground.  Clear off bench for: Dips & Merkins.  Round 1: 25 dips, 15 derkins.  Round 2: 20 Dips, 10 Derkins. Mosey to pullup bars. 2 Sets, 1st 5, 2nd Max out.

Mosey back VSF. Finish with Mary – 20 Russian Twists, 25 Freddy Mercurys then Ring of Fire to close us out.

    NMM:

This is the 2nd beatdown that the YHC’s Weinke has been scratched because weather. The original plan was to use the map of the US on the court and follow the presidential primary schedule with each state getting a corresponding exercise based on the first letter in the state’s name.  Unfortunately an inch of snow covering the court made the game impossible.  Given the current political climate this 2016 electoral season YHC is sure there is metaphor there…

YHC was glad to see Flipper join the PAX in the COP.  Because of the weather YHC deemed this allowable rather than counting as a LIFO, even though Flipper said he would have been later regardless.  With his arrival it made for a even number or else YHC had visions of a lot of Triple check for the rest of the beatdown.

Swirly led the PAX as usual although Oyster crushed the 20 tuck jumps faster than anyone else did 10 of them. Seriously, YHC has never seen anyone knock those out so quickly, Aye!  The wheelbarrow across the court twice smoked the PAX, It was pretty cool to see the mix of handprints and footprints on the court as we left.

While at the front of the school doing our Burpees a Jeep honked as it rode by. There was speculation it was a seal teamer trying to inform the PAX that workouts were cancelled for the day because of the snow. Luckily F3 Corporate was there to confirm F3 RVA workouts are never canceled due to weather.

During the RoF at the end Flipper upped the stakes by getting up and running around the circle and back to his spot. The PAX followed suit during their turn.

Afterwards there was discussion of Coffeteria but no one knew of a place close by.

Announcements: Loose Goose has No Toll tomorrow. HDHH is this Wed at Answer Brewpub, Viral is organizing. If Viral offers you Chipotle while there, do NOT eat it…

  • Did he get prior F3 Corp. approval?

15 strong posted to “the best AO in all of F3 Nation” on a frosty Saturday morning. The PAX had to assemble in a different area of the parking lot because of obstructions but everyone met up for a old fashioned beatdown:

    THE THANG:
Mosey to circle for COP:  30 SSH, 15 Merkins, 20 Flutterkicks, 20 IPs

Mosey to Boulevard for Burpee Road: Run up the Blvd and do 2 Burpees per lamppost.  Cross and head back at break in road and come back with 2 burpees until back at start of memorial field.

Mosey to side of Carillon for newest iteration of Touch a Tree:  Touch a Tree – Tag a Partner:

Partner up.  1 goes out to touch set # of trees while other does exercise until partner returns.  Switch and other one runs and T-A-T.

    Round 1:  5 Trees – Donkey Kicks, Round 2 – 10 Trees – Carolina Dry Docs,  Round 3:  12 Trees – Boxcutters

Mosey to Amphitheater:  Decline plank down the steps in unison.  25 LBCs IC at bottom.  Then scale back up steps – 5 Decline Merkins each step until back at top of Amphitheater.

Mosey to Love Hill:  Partner up again – alternate run & exercise.  Lunges, Broad Jumps, walk-out merkins.

Mosey back to Flag, 1 extra min of Freddy Mercurys.  COT.

    NMM:

Pleasure to lead a large 15 strong PAX this AM.  The PAX got a lot in during the beatdown and covered a lot of ground.  The 40+ burpees during Burpee road got everyone off to a strong start.

The Touch a Tree – Tag a Partner worked out better than YHC had anticipated even though some PAX varied in their methods of tracking down “available” trees as instructions dictated not touching the same tree twice.  On the mosey over to the Amphitheater there was mumblechatter about whether this TAT-TAP had been properly  F3 Corp approved.  Luckily YHC had obtained the requisite approval from Swirly at RAMM the day before.  Sippy decided to do 20 trees on the last round and YHC tried to tell him but alas Sippy was going too fast for YHC to catch him.

The extended planks down the amphitheater steps were hard, maybe Offshore can show the PAX more about this “plank-off” YHC has been hearing about. T-Claps to Wilson for providing extra motivation to Lockjaw during the decline merkins up the steps.  Whatever it takes to inspire!  YHC was impressed how all the PAX burned through those 90 decline merkins in short order.  This week has been heavy on the merkins.  Flipper put in a strong showing at I believe his first dogpile.  For some reason Splinter and Rosie sprinted back from Love Hill to the flag at the end.

Announcements:  Swirly has Q on Monday after the Superbowl.  Attendance will be recorded…

  • Outdoors, but under a roof

19 faithful and 1 FNG braved the icy conditions at Mumford. 28 degrees and black ice abounded but the PAX put in a great workout:

Mosey up and down commonwealth, slowly. COP attempted in the street but aborted, moved to the pavilion.

    COP: 40 SSH, 10 Merkins, 20 Flutterkicks, 20 IPS, 10 burpees OYO

Stay in Pavilion for Dora 123- partner up for 100 merkins, 200 jump squats, 300 boxcutters. One partner runs to grove and back while others does exercise

Partner shoulder presses – 20 reps each partner, repeato. PLTs – 20 count, 3 sets each. Finish with Mtn climbers x30 then Ring of Fire

Mosey back to flag. Toga took us out in COT.

    Moleskin

YHC had a very different  beatdown planned but the snow turning to ice caused a change in plans. The PAX was tight in the pavilion but stayed mostly dry. The Dora 123 YHC stole directly from Swirly’s BB from SOT yesterday.

Only YHC and Lab Rat had a good almost slip, but no wipeouts with all the ice. Welcome to Snooki (e)(sp) , great work on your 1st beatdown.  That makes a handful of Double- haters now at 45MoM. Also Chesney is headed back to Nashville next week, show them F3 boys there how RVA does it.

Prayers offered up for BT and hs family, thanks Toga for leading us out.

Announcements – regular workouts planned for rest of week.

  • Sunday bonus beatdown, with Snurpees

Four from Sippy’s Dogpile gathered again for an extra Sunday beatdown in the snow and to plant a shovel flag in maybe the deepest snow seen at any F3..  Conditions were 20 degrees and a little icy but to those of us who like to play in the snow it felt like 70 and sunny:

Start on Lindsey Rd with Mosey to Westham Pkwy.  COP in the road: 30 SSH, 15 Merkins, 20 Jump Squats, 25 Don Qs.  Mosey back up to School:  Bear Crawl up fresh snow on hill x4

Mosey to Forest – Merkins in the road, Mosey back to Westham.  Stop midway for 100 LBCs.  More Merkins at Westham.  Lunge 50 yards then mosey back to Forest.  Merkins in the road x12, 25 Jump Squats, then Crab Walk 50 yards then mosey back to Westham.

Stop in school parking lot:  Broad Jump length of parking lot in virgin snow.  Mosey back to Westham, more merkins, then Bear Crawl up hill x3 again.

Finish with 4 min Mary in the road-  60 LBCs, 20 Alabama Prop Dates, 20 BoxCutters, 20 Rosalitas.

Finish back at Shovel Flag with 10 Burpees in virgin snow – Snurpees.

    Moleskin:

YHC threw out a suggestion after all the fun at Dogpile yesterday to have a Sunday beatdown since the Trails were closed.  Since TES is near many RVA PAX with the road conditions YHC chose it.  Glad to see 3 others from yesterday there.  There was a lot of going back & forth on Lindsey as the 14+ inches of snow made it difficult to go off the road.  When the PAX did venture off the road it got messy quick with the uphill Bear Crawl getting the PAX covered in snow.

The broad jumps across parking lot were very tough, YHC was wiped out after that.  The Snurpees at the end were fun to see how our weight could leave a detailed impression after finishing.  Lots of discussion on the mosey about BRR, again if you haven’t signed up – do it!

With all the snow and ice none of the PAX slipped or wiped out.  YHC fell backwards during the broad jumps but that was from exhaustion not ice.

For those who haven’t posted in the snow yet – come out to an AO you can get to this week, the snow isn’t going away anytime soon. If you are worried about your feet getting cold talk to TYA about his wrapping your feet in grocery bags strategy. It is always fun to get out and play in the snow no matter what age you are!

  • Shorts or Pants?

7 strong posted to SOT on a brisk and clear morning.  It was 22 degrees at the start, pants weather for some, shorts for other.  It did not matter as the PAX moved plenty to stay warm:

Mosey to front of school for COP:  30 SSH, 12 Merkins, 20 IPs, 50 LBCs

Grab a spot of wall on school front for Donkey Kick sets: 15 Donkey Kicks, run to school sign and back.  Repeato x4.

Mosey to the track: 20 Merkins then 20 broad jumps, run the rest of 100m.  15 merkins, 15 seconds bear crawl then run the rest of 100m.  10 merkins then crab walk half way off the 100m.

Mosey to bleachers for Chiabattas:  Alternate Muscle-ups & Box Jumps for 4 min

Go back to track for set replacing the merkins with WWII situps.  Finish with extra 10 burpees and sprint 100m.

Mosey to top of hill to fence. Derkins x20, Flutterkicks 20 IC, then 15 more derkins.

Back to the flag for 3 min Mary:  Alabama Prom Dates x20, Cross leg lifts 15 each leg, 20 Hello Dolleys.

    NM:

Great work by the PAX today.  There was discussion before the beatdown as to how cold it needs to be to forgo shorts for tights/sweats.  Lugnut and Rosie sported shorts, while YHC opted for running pants in 22 degree weather. The rest of the PAX shall go unnamed. Bleeder and Sheik lit the way with their bikes which was helpful, especially on the track.  The Derkins at the end were quite tough in just getting your feet on top of the fence.  As Swirly said it was more balls to the wall/modified Carolina Dry docks.

Tclaps to Bleeder for keeping time as YHC forgot a watch.  One of YHCs resolutions for 2016 is to Q every AO once a quarter, thanks to the SOT normals for pushing YHC today on the SOTVQ.

    Announcements:

    HDHH next Wed: See DK

Frostbite this Sunday for those running.  YHC has a free pass (M has to work) for the race if anyone is interested.

  • Where is TYA?

7 strong (no TYA) and 1 FNG posted to Gridiron on a relatively warm 44 degree morning and the rain held off.  Here is how it went:

Mosey to upper field for COP: 30 SSH, 12 Merkins, 25 Flutterkicks, 25 IPs, 20 Richard Kimballs

Mosey to bus lane for:  Curb Crawls.  1 up to 8 Merkins

Mosey to main field to bleachers for:  Chiabattas    Alternating – Muscle Ups & Box Jumps

    Grab a bench for: 10 Decline Merkins , 20 Dips.  Repeato x4

Mosey to front of School for Triple Check – Run , Plank, Wall Sits

Mosey to lower field for:  PLTs – 25 each partner, Repeato x4.  Finish with 10 slowcount merkins

Mosey back to front of school for:  Donkey Kick Burpees – 3 Donkey kicks then do a burpee. x10

Mosey back to flag for some Mary:  100 LBCs, 30 Alabama Prom Dates, 20 Mountain Climbers

Earthworm led us out in prayer.  Jville tried to rename all the PAX

    NM:

Good work today men.  YHC arrived early to check the field conditions, which although soggy were not too bad for some field work.  At 45MoM on Thursday TYA told YHC he would be in attendance for a Honeydo Q but alas he apparently fartsacked.  If this continues YHC may develop a complex.

Tclaps to Wilson for the double dip, while Chum Bucket tried a new option – the half dip as he arrived 20 min in.  Upon seeing Chum arrive there was some quick calculations by the PAX on how he could DD so quickly, alas he was a LIFO. Better to LIFO than fartsack!

The derkins/dips after the Chiabattas smoked the PAX, including YHC.  The PAX were challenged with the donkey burpees, those will have to make an appearance at Dogpile soon.

Good work by White Deer (renamed from Pre per JVille) on his 2nd post and by Exile on his first post.  Jville insisted on the renaming Groh to Atilla the Hun.  YHC will leave it up to the Gridiron regulars to enforce the name change or keep it to Groh.

Afterwards at Coffee YHC learned that White Deer has some great stories and that Earthworm does not know how to comment on a Backblast, even though he has authored many a BB.  When YHC left Wilson was providing a tutorial to Earthworm.  We’ll see if it worked. Coffee after Gridiron is always a great start to the weekend.

    Go Redskins!

  • All is quiet on New Year’s Day

Five fleet footed faithful fought off the fartsack to start off 2016 right.  Temperature was 45 degrees and clear, perfect running weather.

4 Mile loop – no takers, Aye!

5 Mile Loop – north on Westmoreland , right on Monument, right on Boulevard, right on Cary, right onto Exeter through Windsor farms, back to MM

6 Mile Loop – north on Westmoreland , right on Monument, right on Meadow, right on Cary, right onto Exeter through Windsor farms, back to MM

    NM:

YHC was pleased to see 4 join in the run early after NYE. The PAX had the roads to themselves this AM as the rest of the Richmond was sleeping in after ringing in the New Year.  Offshore and Saab did the 6 mile loop while Swirly, Lockjaw, and YHC did the 5 miler.  Running on monument with all the Christmas lights still on was a good vibe while the only merriment the PAX saw was a guy in a Civic with music on keeping the party going on Monument and a 6 AM walk of shamer on Cary.  The 6 milers reeled us in crossing over 195 on Cary.  Offshore looks ready for the marathon next week!

Back at MM there was discussion of the movie Trainwreck (2 pax watched in on NYE) and confessions that all but one of the PAX turned in NYE before midnight.  Aye the call of the gloom this AM was far stronger than watching the ball drop on TV!

Announcements:  Regular workouts this weekend – With Wilson and Earthworm Q’ing Saturday will they serve up some New Years burpees after completing the December Burpee challenge or take a much needed break? Post to find out…

Happy 2016 and here’s to F3 RVA getting stronger in the New Year: in number and in brotherhood!

  • Goodbye Christmas pooch

12 Dogpile regulars and 2 FNGs gathered around the 2 shovel flags for a post Christmas beatdown.  It was 72 and foggy which helped the PAX sweat out more of the Christmas dinners the day before.

    THE THANG

Mosey to the Circle – COP

    SSH x 30 , Merkins x 10 , LBCs x 30 , Flutterkics x 20 , Richard Kimball x 20 (combo Turkish get up & Good mornings)

Mosey to Carillon Field – Glowstick chases

Broad jumps, Crab Walk, Bear Crawl, Crawl Bear, 10 Burpees at Midfield, Broad jumps & Bear Crawl back

Mosey to other Circle for:  Ghost of Christmas Earthwortm:

Partner up for Partner Leg Toss x 25 , 5 sets , finish with 15 more Richard Kimballs

Mosey to back of Carillon:  Donkey Kicks x20 , 15 Lunges, 10 Merkins, Lunge back. Repeato x3

Mosey to Amphitheater: Descending plank down the Amphitheater steps: Plank every other step

Regular Decline plank, RHH, LHH, Derkins x10 , Inc Merkins x15 , Countdown Decline plank.

At the bottom IC:  30 Box Cutters, 30 Freddy Mercury’s

Stairway to Burpen back up to top – Back to COP Circle

IC Flutterkicks x25 , Helly Dollys x25 then Ring of Fire – Flutterkicks

    Mosey to Flag for COT

    MOLESKIN:

Great work men! Welcome Wurlizer and Turncoat.  YHC was determined to focus on Abs this AM to offset all the Christmas goodies and libations of the last few days.  The PAX attacked their collective christmas pooches with enough PLTs to qualify for respect from our Gridiron brothers to the west.  There was much discussion before the beatdown of the various levels of soggyness of shoes and other items from Saab’s 45MoM.  At the onset of the beatdown something felt amiss and then the PAX figured out what was missing – Swirly.  Maybe he had too many of his own famous Christmas Balls yesterday!

YHC is not sure about the effectiveness of the newly dubbed Richard Kimball exercise, but liked that it got the PAX rolling around on the ground to start the beatdown.  The side of the Carillon (or Carillon like Pavilion) seemed to work well for the Donkey Kicks as there was no slippage against the wall.

YHC still remembers a Doner Kabab dogpile beatdown this summer where he made the PAX plank at the Amphitheater for what seemed like forever so blame him for the idea.  It was fun to share some fun christmas stories, like Turncoat’s affinity for the NY Giants and Fudd’s affinity for Single Malt Scotch, while suffering deep in the Gloom.  Thanks to Wilson for his punishing countdown on the last plank step.

T-Claps to Winston for the EH on Wurlitzer and DK for bringing Turncoat (his nephew) and Rohawk.  Turncoat is only 9, just like Bass Pro earlier this week.  YHC thinks we should reconsider anyone posting under 10 yrs old should get Respect, not Quad Hate as it takes guts to enter the Gloom at that early an age.  Good work to both Turncoat and Rohawk.

Announcements:  Trail Run tomorrow, likely not on the Trails but sounds like Lab Rat has some ideas.

  • Helping Wilson with his burpees

8 faithful woke up extra early to scrape the frost of their windshield and come to Dogpile for a good Saturday morning beatdown.

    THE THANG:

    Mosey to circle for COP:  SSH x25 , Merkins x12 , Imperial Walkers x20 , Flutterkicks x25, Burpees x10

Mosey to Carillon field for Tabatas:  Alternate Broad Jumps & Lunges until other end of field.  From end of field run up boulevard up to the turn and back.  Stop at every lamppost for 1 burpee. 20 in all.  On way back audibled to 2 burpees per post.

Tabatas back to other end of field again:  Broad jumps & lunges.

Mosey back to cirlce & partner up:  Partner should press x20 then planking partner wheelbarrow to center of cirlce & 10 decline merkins.  Switch partners, 2 sets.  Finish with 10 burpees

Mosey to Amphitheater for Incline Merkin Ladder: Up to 8 Steps.  After done complete 20 walk-out bear crawls.

Mosey to bowl behind theater for Jacobs Ladder to get Wilson above his 100 burpee mark for the day.

Finish with Mary at the flag:  30 LBCs, 50 Boxcutters.

    MOLESKIN:

YHC signed up for Q for purely selfish reasons, to minimize running to save YHC’s legs for the Bear Creek 10 miler.  The PAX responded well with a burpee & shoulder heavy beatdown.  For the last several weeks it has been funny as the PAX has been able to guess when Sippy’s light would come over the hill at 3 minutes before 6.  Winston shared that Sippy hurt his back and was out for Dogpile, hope you get better soon

    Good workout today men!
