  • Conversational Broga

2 insomniacs pulled out their sponsored Broga gear to welcome the warmer tides of spring. Introductions and salutations were upfront with good stretch session that emphasized the shoulders, neck, back, hips and glutes. Shorter shavasana then planned as the breeze created a bit of a nip.

Always enjoy the conversation with Hutton making the effort to answer the bat signal. Great way to catch up on life. Thanks for the comradery.

  • Neighborhood Watch

The best looking of SOJ’s finest descended upon the glorious accommodations that awaited them at No Toll. Conditions were ideal for a stroll off the typical parking lot and plush fields. DJ Snuff dropped the beats so here is how things went down.

Short mosey around the basketball courts and circle up for introductions and disclaimers. Warmorama included SSH’s, Helis, Dead Man Hang, Jazzercise (with toe taps), DQ’s, another Dead Man Hang with a bit of broga mixed in.

Off we venture out towards Robious and across into the Greenleigh neighborhood.

Lindsay was 1st up with stops at each intersection for 30 Merkins, 10 squats. 25/15, 20/20, 15/25 & 10/30 until we arrived at Greenleigh park.

Triple Check with a few of your besties. Exercises included, LBC’s and Mountain Climbers, timer touches 3 different trees (no repeatos). Enough shenanigans at the park.

Burpee Road on the way back. Weave our way back thru the neighborhood using the long way. Stop at every vehicle parked on the road. 1 merkin for cars, 1 WW2 for trucks, 1 burpee for anything else. Gazelles doubled up the number and waited for the 6 at each intersection.

Back into Huguenot Park for another quick triple check at the restrooms. Pole Smokers and Lt. Dans while timer runs to the playground entrance and back.

Mosey back to the basketball courts for quick Ab centric Mary. 10 ab exercises completed in cadence. Time was called. Numbers, Names, Announcements, Prayers. YHC took us out. Prayers for Family DTH as the embark in Papa New Guinea on their medical mission for 3 months. Thoughts for Snuffs Papa-in-law and his family as they deal with declining health. Chili Cook Off at Castle El Woods on March 22nd; plush TP has been promised. Mad respect to Bone Thugs as he continues his recovery from knee surgery for putting in the miles.

NMS. Been a while since we moseyed into Machismo’s backyard to wake the neighbors. Thanks to Snuff for providing the tunes as we ventured the mean streets of Greenleigh. Always fun to mix things up a bit and appreciate the efforts of the PAX for accommodating. Good to see Dry Rub back out after his winter slumber. Thank you fellas for the opportunity to work with you guys. Great times and good conversation.

  • Murph is on the Menu

10 of SOJ’s finest looking fellows were joined by a lost Westhoean to at the velvety smooth confines of the Twin Team Lounge. Doozy went off to log miles while the rest of the PAX were enthused by YHC’s date reminder of this being the last day of the month and traditions need to be upheld so they are not forgotten. Handshake arrives with 24 seconds to spare, here is how things went down.

Short mosey around the drop off circle to collect the tardy El Woods, circle up for introductions and disclaimers. Brief warmarama that included SSH’s, Helis, Dead Man Hang, Fudds Wife, Wilsons Wife, Broga and DQ’s.
    Let us begin the Murph:

Mosey down to James River High School Stadium, 1 lap around the track and back up to Bettie Weaver playground to complete Mile 1 of the Murph. 10 rounds of the following: 10 pull ups, 20 merkins (hand release for some), 30 squats. After each round, run across the field and back. After 6 rounds, YHC modified for time to perform a set of exercises at each end of the field using the opposite playground as well. Still had to cut short due to time, with most of the PAX getting around 8 rounds completed.

Extra Credit was handed out to all participants due to YHC poor time management. Numbers Names Announcements, YHC took us out.

Chili Cook Off at Casa de L Woods in March. See slack for deets.

NMS: YHC took the Q thinking of a loungy style beatdown but Q energy took over with the reminder of the Twin Team Murph tradition being on the last friday of the month. Will utilize both playgrounds in the future to save time. Not much conversation to be had during a Murph as it is truly a burner of a beatdown. Always good to have the Tarrington Clown Car show up and a pleasant surprise for Handshake to visit his juvenile stomping grounds. Thank you fellas for the opportunity to start the weekend off well. Enjoy the weekend however you feel is best. Well done boys.

  • High School Date Night

Ahh, young love. What better way to spend teenage adolescence than planning and cooking up a meal for some incredible men with your boyfriend under the scorning gaze of her fathers eye. It was Italian night at the Southside Health Center. Lasagna with warm buttered Italian Bread. Apple Pie and Homemade Chocolate Pie for desert with Vanilla Ice Cream topped with Whip Cream.

Swifty wanted to include her boyfriend in the preparation and delivery. Conversation was minimal, mostly grunts and piercing looks if the young couple were within touching distance of each other. Overall, this was a great event and one our family looks forward to every year. Thank you Oyster for the communication and please consider participating in this great event.

  • Frozen Forge

10 delirious popsicles decided to come out and drop their core temps for 45 minutes. It was not sunny and certainly not 70. 9 f^#@ing degrees, yes, you read that right; single digits. It was cold and we were stupid enough to decide to come together and make ourselves better. The things men do for bikini season. Here is how things went down.

Motion was the call of the day. Mosey down through various parking lots. Introductions and disclaimers were done in motion to keep the blood flowing. Mosey for lightpole 11’s (merkins and squats) down to the cul de sac. Gazelles did SSH’s as they waited for the turtles.

Mosey thru the open gate to the track. Run 2 laps around the track, stopping at each corner for 20 reps of various exercises. PAX assisted in selecting the exercises that included WWII’s, Booyah Merkins, Elbow Plank, Lt. Dans, SSH’s, American Hammers and Burpees (not YHC’s choice).

After the 2nd lap, triple check was on the menu. Timer runs across the field and back. Hoedowns and LBC’s were performed.

Back down the road performing various motion exercises between light poles. Lunges, Imperial Walkers, Ukrainian Soldiers, Butt Kickers, Bernie, High Knees, etc.

At the ramp we Polar Bear 1/2 the distance up the ramp, Lunge walk the remaining.

BTTVF performing tooth fairies up the steps.

Name/Numbers. Too cold for announcements and prayers. See slack for upcoming event (Frozen Triangle, Breaking Bread, etc.) YHC took us out.

NMS: It was cold. YHC arrived with Tin Man and Dealer already awaiting enjoying the heated seats of their vehicles. YHC was certain he could convince these early risers to join him in the warm confines of Starbucks instead of only for 6 arrivals at 5.27. Great work out there today with a on the fly Q. Good to get the blood pumping and great conversation. Salt Lick loves a burpee. Thank you fellas for joining me in the cold. Next time lets meet in June.

  • We Did Burpees

A trio of SOJ’s finest embraced the cooler temps in hoodies, winter gloves and short sleeves to embark on a variety of activities. Someone cut out the lights at the flag so we ventured off campus a bit to keep active and fight off the chill. Here is how things went down.

Mosey past James River High School to the student parking lot for introductions, disclaimers and warm ups in conversation so Pax could complete their respective tales of days past. Warm ups included a variety of standing exercises with a dead man hang as the cherry on top.

Mosey to the track for a quick lap around stopping at each corner to complete 20 reps of merkins at corner 1, WWII’s at corner 2, Monkey Humpers at Corner 3 and Flutters at Corner 4. Enjoy the playful canine along the way.

Exit the stadium to enjoy a triple check. Timer runs to the 2nd light pole and back, exercises were Heals to Heaven and Squats.

Mosey to the student lot. Lunge across the lot, stopping at each line for 2 squats. 1 burpee completed at each light pole.

Mosey back to Betty Weaver across the field to the rear blacktop for a quick 4 corners. 10 Merkins, 20 somethings, 30 of something else and 40 of something completely different.

Mosey back around the school to the drop off loop for a 1 round triple check. Timer runs the loop, curbside merkins and lunges?

BTTVF for numbers, names, announcements (Chili Cook-off, Alternative Thanksgiving), prayers, YHC took us out.

NMS: Cool dark morning led to a great star gazing session at the Lounge. More of a Après Ski vibe but still very good way to end the work week. Conversations were plentiful and various but most of the worlds problems were solved and forgotten. Thank you fellas for the opportunity to work with you this morning as this AO and the comradery is always a highlight.

  • Check out the fresh nugs, wheezin’ the juice,

A generational blend of X’s and Z’s ventured onto the First Watch campus for a beatdown mixed with movie quotes, spring break destinations and other quality conversation gems that will remain discreet and anonymous. Here is how things went down.

5.30 strikes, lets mosey. Handshake coming in hot, let us circle back to collect. Down the dark path to the church parking lot, honoring various burpee traditions. Mosey around to the front of the church for introductions and disclaimers. Warm ups were in cadence and conversation with a few Dead Man Hangs, Invisible Jump Rope, Ukrainian Soldiers, Copperhead Squats, Merkins and DQ’s. Let us move along.

    Mosey to the main church lot for escalating 4 corners – brocode style utilizing the entire parking lot. 1st corner – 10 merkins; Corner 2 – 10 merkins, 20 WWII’s; 3rd corner – 10 merkins, 20 WWII’s, 30 squats; 4th corner – 10 merkins, 20 WWII’s, 30 squats, 40 monkey humpers.

Wosey to the church steps. Partner 15’s. Timer runs to the dumpster performs 15 merkins, runs back to the stairs while partner performs LBC’s. Switch, with timer running to dumpster performing 14 merkins and so on. Everyone runs together to complete the last single merkin.

Mosey to the side parking lot for 11’s. Donkey Kicks and Squats with lunges between both to and fro.

Mosey BTTVF for quick 4 corners around the lot. 10 jump squats, 20 CDD, 30 mountain climbers, 40 SSH’s. Perfect timing for Names, Numbers, Prayers (Fireman Ed, Fudd’s Sister, those who are currently on IR), announcements (Chili cookoff). Kubota took us out.

NMS: Great way to start the cool morning. Hutton was the early riser by getting in some broga on the frozen tundra. YHC was called out for performing a perfectly executed 3 point turn getting into the lot. Always enjoy a conversation heavy beatdown with good laughs, lite jogging and little counting. Enjoy the libations fellas. Grill or cook until the bacon is cooked but not crisp. Plenty more if refills are requested. Always enjoy getting together.

  • Birthday Broga

A trio of finely tuned Brogiis hit the mean Tuckahoe mats early for limber event prior to Huttons birthday celebrations. Backs, shoulders, hips and glutes were the emphasis under the ideal conditions of the morning. Good discussion, about what, i have no idea. Great work boys.

  • In Conversation at the Forge

An unorganized group of ghouls enjoyed the ideal conditions for a numberless beatdown with plenty of good mumble chatter. Here is how things went down according to Bobby.

Mosey to the bus loop for introductions and disclaimers. YHC announces that no numbers will be used in todays beatdown. Warmarama all in conversation, shout out to the Lounge, which included DQ’s, Helis, Dead Man Hang, Ukrainian Soldiers, Heals to Heaven and Merkins. All seemed loose and limber, so lets get this thing going…

Triple Check: Timer runs a variety of loops routes without repeating (Big bus loop, small bus loop, around the school to the stairs and back). Partners perform various exercises changing each round. Opening Round – Elevated Merkins, WWII’s. Next Round- Shoulder Taps, APD’s. Next Round: Carolina Dry Docks, LBC’s.

Catch Me if you Can: Partner up. Partner lunges around the bus loop. Partner runs around the loop and catches lunger from behind. Switch roles and repeat for single lap.

Triple Check: Peoples Chair against the school (milkers and Muhammed Alis), Lt. Dans while timer runs up the hill and back down the stairs.

Indigenous Curb Crawl: Mosey back to the small loop. Curb Crawl around the loop while last person runs to the front. Single round was completed.

MBTTF: Quick stop for some additional curb crawling to balance out the burn.

Few minutes of broga. Names, announcements, prayers. Flatline took us out.

NMS: Great work today fellas. Thank you for entertaining an idea that was in my mind to eliminate the counting in preference of good mumble chatter. This was achieved with a phenomenal variety of conversations and laughs. Things got a bit serious once we noticed Bobby waiting for us at the flag. No conversations were had as Bobby did not leave his vehicle choosing instead to text Rosie. Stay tuned for next weeks exciting adventures.

  • Conversation Broga

2 of F3RVA’s finest looking chaps took River Road Baptist Church Patio by surprise in the early dawn hours to work out the kinks and pops prior to the FW 5 year anniversary. Good conversation with incredible stretching was on the menu for these 2 regulars. Standard shavasana is always appreciated. Thanks Hutton for joining me this morning.
