  • Poker Theme Workout

Q didn’t get his poker night in the prior Thursday, so decided to do an all poker/cards theme. After warm up we had a mosey over to Burpee Hill where we drew from the Deck of Death for a few burpees. Then on to the pickleball court for King of Hearts (suicides on 4 courts) of jogging forward, jogging forward and jogging backward, bear crawl and grapevine. Mosey to benches for four pulls from the Deck of Death for two sets of dips and derkins. Pretty sure we had a few face cards for those derkins. Then mosey to the football field for Black Jack (20 merkins, run to other side, 1 LBC, run to other side 19 merkins, etc.). After reaching close to 100 merkins the Q realized it was time to call an audible and cut it short. (Note to self, modify Black Jack to start with LBCs, not merkins). Mosey to school wall for another Deck of Death pull of the cards for donkey kicks and chicken peckers. Another mosey to the football field for the 7 of Diamonds to get our ab work in for the morning (Heals to Heaven, WWIIs, American Hammers). On our mosey back to base we stopped by more benches for another Deck of Death pull of the cards for step ups, reverse crunches, box cutters, and Carolina dry docks. (Everybody gets to participate by pulling from the Deck of Death).

Happy Chum convinced his buddy Bernard Robinson (Way Back) to join us. Welcome, and hope to see you again soon.

  • I can’t feel my fingers

It was a brisk 39′ at Grid Iron this morning but we had 12 brave men willing to put up with YHC’s second Q. After a warm up running the lines in the parking lot, we did the normal Side Straddle Hops, (modified) Imperial Walkers, Don Quixotes, LBCs, APDs, and Suzanne Summers. But we added a Bat Wings (fun to search the Exicon to shake things up).

After warm up we moseyed to the grid iron for 4 corners (props to EF Hunton for his Wed Q) with: 5 WWIIs, 10 Merkins, 15 Mtn Climbers, and 20 Side Straddle Hops…with a Bear Crawl to the last corner. Increased by 5 on round two but most of us couldn’t feel our fingers in the 39′ wet grass. YHC probably should have stayed in the parking lot, but whatever.

Moseyed to the school wall for 3 rounds of 20 Chicken Peckers and 20 Donkey Kicks. Moseyed to football field for a few sets of (partner assisted) Chin-Ups and Pull-Ups on the goal post. Final push was the Quarter Pounder: 25 Heels to the Heavens, 50 Freddy Mercurys, 75 Flutter Kicks, and 100 American Hammers. Ended with a Ring of Fire choose your own Merkin.

Other than freezing our fingers off before sun rise, it was a great day with an awesome group of guys!

  • Tater’s VQ

Beautiful Fall morning when 7 brave lads joined YHC for his VQ.
After initial false start by announcing first exercise as Merkin but performing Side Straddle Hops, a good laugh was had, and we got the morning underway.

Warm-ups: 20 side straddle hops, 15 cherry pickers, 10 Don Quixote’s, 30 count arm circles forward/backwards, 20 APD and 10 LBCs. Q broke out the iPod for toe-taps, jump rope, and air punches to the Rocky theme song.

Mosey to lower Football Field for Exercise 1: (Elevens- Burpees and Mountain Climbers). 55 Burpees may not have been a crowd pleaser to start the day, but the PAX stepped up to the challenge.

Mosey to Pillars of Pain for:
Exercise 2- 30 Boxing Cockroaches, 20 Partner Leg Toss, and 10 Pull-up (partner assisted).
Exercise 3- Q broke out the iPod again for a 3 min 12 second extended plank session to the Police’s Roxanne, with Merkins to every “Roxanne” and Plank Jacks for every “Red Light”.

Mosey back to football field for:
Exercise 4- Quarter Pounder (mosey to 25 yrd line for 25 WWII’s, back to end line, mosey to 50 yrd line for 50 LBCs, back to end line, mosey 75 yrds for 75 Flutter Kicks, back to end line, and final mosey to end of field for 100 American Hammers).

After a well needed 20 count, Q added a little levity for Exercise 5- Crab vs Bear Soccer Game. Finished off the morning with Exercise 6- Ring of Fire Merkins, followed by 10 pull-ups on football goal posts.

Appreciate the opportunity to lead such a great group of men.
