  • Lots of Mumble Chatter

YHC signed the Q sheet for Timberwolf late last night and made his way to the AO at 0 dark 30 to find the loneliest number in the wolf pack. Oh well, virus or no virus the show must go on.

Mosey to the front parking lot COP

DQ’s, Helicopters, Cherry Pickers, Copperhead Squats and while YHC is by himself tested a new exercise the PAX is going to love when things get back to normal and YHC will call them Snake Bites.

    Mosey to the bus lot

Man Killers. Things started to go down hill from here because YHC 1 lost count a couple times and YHC 2 and YHC 3 complained about how YHC always does Man Killers and we should just leave the dude here to do his workout by himself.

    Mosey to Light Pole alley

YHC 2 & 3 really started in here before we even got started because they somehow knew what they were in for. Light Pole Burpee Suicides increase by 1 burpee at each Light Pole. 1 through 10

Mosey to the front parking lot again

Of coarse by now YHC 2 & 3 are really letting YHC 1 have it and saying we should just pack it up and go home because light pole alley was plenty for one day. YHC 1 was not having it 10 parking lot bear crawl Merkins up and 10 parking lot crab walk LBC’s down.

Mosey back to the flag YHC 1 gave in to YHC 2 & 3 because YHC 1 doesn’t like them anyway and YHC 1 did not want to hear anymore of their bitchin

Numbers / Names YHC 1 took us out

    NMS:

Self Motivation is hard and we don’t always realize how much we need the PAX to keep us going.

Missing my Wolf Pack this morning

  • Mile Sandwich

Three men and a 2.0 joined up at The Forge to exercise by lawful right of essential activities.

Workout: Disclaimer -> run to DTH warmup turnaround, back up around bottom two parking lots to point of beginning which is exactly one mile.

Warm up – SSH, don Q, russian soldiers, imperial walkers, mountain climbers, seal jacks

Prison cell AMRAPS – find a parking spot away from others (physical distancing). Merkin walk around cell one direction for one minute. Next exercises in same direction – lunges, bear crawls, March sadness slides. Reverse directions with same 4 exercises.

Move to grass – AMRAP abs – WWII, LBC, Flutter, plank

    One mile run to finish.

Moleskin – YHC awoke at 3:00 AM with anxiety of Qing and putting together a 45 minute workout while maintaining distance and a bad back. A blank Q sheet at 5:00 AM came a calling. Running and prison cells seemed to make the most sense. Way to go Merlin, crushing us old folks dreams of winning a race. Keep up the good work Last Call and Snuff, good seeing you guys out each week.

  • April Fools, you got us.

A very legal gathering of 8 socially-distanced men to see what Conspiracy was going to bring today. Quickly Swirly realized it was an April Fools prank and we were off for a WDog Hot Potato Q. Swirly took the reigns to start us of.

Announcements: Faceplant is leading the Second Annual Shawn G Hogan Memorial Workout tomorrow at Mary. Last years was epic, so it won’t be for the faint of heart.

NMS: It was good to meet Laughing Gas and Ether today. It was also good to have Targé (FNG) out. He is a friend of Jacque Penne. He went to Hampden Sydney and played Golf. Naturally Jacque Penne had a idea of a nickname revolving around Caddyshack, but he didn’t remember how he got his own nickname when Bodo’s tried to introduce a “scripted” nickname for him last month… Therefore if you are friends with fancy-dressed Jacque Penne you get another churched up name with Targé. Welcome Targé, we are glad to have you as part of our crew.

  • LIFO Murph

A solo Davillians at 5:30 decided to get out of the car and get ready. Luckily at 5:31 Opus showed and 5:35 Bulkhead decided to make an appearance so this lone wolf became a wolfpack.

  • Is that a rabbit? No, it’s a newspaper.

Is that a rabbit? No, it’s a newspaper.

Three strong on the First Watch this morning took a little tour to make sure everyone was abiding by the Governor’s rules.

Start a nice crisp run from the parking lot to the Gamble’s Mill Eco Trail gate with a stop at Saab’s house on the way. One Burpee to activate alarm clock to wake Saab up.

While on the trail, perform a Lindsay. Seven stops on the trail for:

    35/5 30/10 25/15 20/20 15/25 10/30 5/35: LBC’s/Merkins

Gather at the Spider Run parking area at the big grassy hill.

    Triple Check:

2 x Incline Merkins on each step on the way up and out.

Mosey through campus toward College Drive. YHC thought he saw a rabbit in the UR President’s driveway. EF Hutton corrected him to inform him it was the daily newspaper fluttering in the breeze. YHC needs to go to eye doctor(seriously). Do we have an eye doctor in the PAX?

Stop at Saab’s house to see if he was still awake, no he wasn’t. Three Burpees to activate the snooze button.

Back to the VSF. 3.00 miles! 45min 30sec. Mission accomplished!

Numberama, Namearama, Announcements and Wojo took us out.

Well done this early morning, guys! What a way to start April 2020 off. Good riddance, March 2020! You were a Lion the whole month. The Lamb will come, though! Have Faith!

  • “If you didn’t change it you may have been calling 911”

After a lot of fartsacking only 1 showed for the POG New Market Q. It could have been that it was a little colder than it has been the last few days, or that there was a chance for rain……or deep down did they have a feeling POG was really going to bring it. Who knows…

    COP

Helicopters, DQs, SSH, Copperhead Squats, Cherry Pickers, Imperial Walkers

    Thang

In honor of Cooper’s birthday(Marmaduke’s son), I decided we would start with “The Cooper”. Since we don’t have a track we used the hill in the neighborhood. 10 Burpees, 10 Squats, 10, Merkins, Run up the hill and back, 9 Burpees, 9 Squats, 9 Merkins, Run down to the stop sign and back, Going down to 0. Even numbers run up the hill, odd numbers run to the stop sign. (My original plan was to go up the hill on all numbers, but decided to change it at the last minute).

Next up: 25 WWII’s, 50 double count American Hammers, 75 LBCs, Hold Plank for 1 minute

Starting at one curb of the parking lot do 10 ball dippers, then do lunges to the other side to do 9 ball dippers, back across for 8, back and forth going down to 0.

Another round of 25 WWII’s, 50 double count American Hammers, 75 LBC’s, Hold Plank for 1 minute.

Strong work today Nancy! Glad I wasn’t out there doing it by myself and definitely glad we didn’t go uphill every time.

    Everybody stay safe out there!

  • Stay in Formation

Odd times, but grateful for something familiar and normal.  Five cautious yet eager warriors put some new twists on some familiar exercises.  Here is how it went down:

    • Wide COT with YHC taking us out

YHC struggled with deciding if he should post, much less Q, at this point.  After receiving my family’s blessing, YHC felt he could post without guilt.  T-claps to the fathers who are making sure there is not a disconnect between their words and actions.  YHC has young children, and there is significant respect for the dad’s with teenagers and college-age children.  Sacrificing a posting for being united with your family in quarantining is admired.  Stay strong.

For those reading, YHC tried to create a workout that can be done solo or “in a group.”  Solid work from the PAX this morning.  Some mumble-chatter, but it was hard to distinguish due to the distancing.  All in all, good to see the PAX.

Continue to pray for our community and focus on caring for those around you, not yourself.  God is good all of the time!

  • Tour de Batteau (for a new visitor)

Keeping with YHC tradition this post is of course late, and a Swirly never forgets so I had to make sure that this post did not lag into 2021. Monday morning we were well below our government mandated maximum number of people and we all practiced extreme safe social distancing for the grand total of 3.

When a first time Batteau visitor shows up on Monday, we always like to make them feel welcome with a full tour of all that the Richmond City Park System has to offer. Swirly kicked us off with stretches and warm-ups at the tennis courts. YHC noted all the usual Swirly warm-up routine stretches, plus a few new ones added into the rotation like touch your toes, a new favorite of YHC. We rounded out the stretching with a series of exercises in the front lean and rest position and alternated between ‘HOLD IT’ position at 3 inches, and up to the regular merkin position.

After warm-up Swirly mosey-ed us over to our second Batteau stop to pick up some of the Richmond regions finest and heaviest granite boulders. Since all of the weight lifting gyms are closed because someone ate a bat, Swirly led us in a series of boulder lifting exercises. Start out with 20 curls, run down steps with boulder and do 20 dips, run back up, do 20 curls, then add 10 overhead presses… repeat down to the bottom 20 dips. Then we kept going adding to our series of exercises ‘bench press’ with boulder, squats with boulder and I might be missing one.

Swirly handed off the potato to YHC, and we headed down the hill in the dark to continue the Tour de Batteau. We then started one lap around the lake stopping at each light post (lit or un-lit) and did 5 Merkins, and we waited in the front lean and rest until all were done then we all got up and ran to the next light post. Once we got back to the finish we had to make our way out from the bottom.

On up the hill of ill-repute, one person started to lunge up the hill while the remaining two stayed at the bottom. The ‘timer’ did 30 side straddle hops while the other did flutter kicks. Once timer was done, timer sprinted up the hill to swap out with the lung-er. Former lung-er ran back down the hill and started doing flutter kicks, and flutter kick-er became the ‘timer’ and did 30 side straddle hops. Repeat until someone got all the way to the top of the hill.

Once we all got to the top of the hill we still had extra time so 20 OYO WWIIs. Moseyed on up to the start where we did numbers and names and announcements.

Big thank you to Jaque Penné for joining us this Monday morning, Batteau regulars hope to see him back to experience everything else that Batteau has to offer! Jaque Penné took us out with some inspiring words.

  • Trout fishing alone

Trout came to an empty parking lot waiting for his friends but no one showed up so ran the 4 mile Rutland Chicken loop….alone…
