  • Foggy Hot Potato

7 figures emerged from the early fog to gather for a much needed workout to find there was no Q signed up. Handshake quickly took charge and got the group warmed up in front of the school.

Improvising with what was available, Handshake had the group pair up for Catch Me If You Can with one person bear crawling around a circle of cones while the other did 10 Merkins then ran to his buddy. Another round with 20 WWII situps.

Mosey to Pemberton Elementary where again Handshake improvised quite well finding a stack of bricks. Each person grabbed two bricks and we did Merkins on the bricks then stood up and did presses overhead with the bricks. x1 Merkin/x4 OH Presses, x2/x8, x3/x12, x4/x16, x5/x20 and back down again.

Pucker took the Q and moseyed down to main MS parking lot for a variation of 11s. Using bus spaces, group OYO ran 3 spaces and did an exercise to one end of lot and back. 3 Copper Head Squats, then 10 LBCS and 10 2 count Flutterkicks at each stop.

Mosey to Blacktop behind MS for triple check. Actually did 4 rounds – Wall sit, LBCs and run backwards. Mosey back to flag for several ab exercises (Hello Dollys [?], Alabama Prom Dates and Flutterkicks).

FNG Frankie (came with Byproduct) shared his story and wearing a Steelers sweatshirt and professing his love of Pittsburgh was dubbed “Cleveland”. Welcome Cleveland.

  • The First Last Resort

Six dedicated stalwarts woke up to the soothing sound of rain, thermometers that read 42, and said, “Ahhh, just right.”

While the rain surely kept any and all FNGs away from this brand new AO, the PAX made the most of our new surroundings, particularly the generous amount of covered space surrounding the building. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the Back Porch for COP: SSH, Don Quixote, helicopters, Russian soldiers, Freddie Mercury, LBCs, hand-release merkins.

    Part 1: The AquaBear
On a variation from the Polar Bear, PAX AquaBear the length of the bus ramp (AquaBear = bear crawl with a burpee at regular intervals, in this case, each of the 13 pairs of columns along the bus ramp).

    Part 2: A Pair of 11s
Greatest Generation: in deference to the sacrifices and hardships our grandparents endured, a set of 11s featuring WWIIs and squats (since they invented the nuclear bomb drill). Run length of bus ramp in between.
All-American: switch the exercises to Merkins & American Hammers

Part 3: It Looked Good On Paper
    What was supposed to happen:
There are 15 doors set into alcoves around the school. Each PAX member goes into a consecutive doorway and performs his exercise until passed, Indian Run style, by the last man. Switch to the next exercise until you’re the last man. Run to the front and continue until PAX has completed a lap around the school.

    What happened:
YHC hastily explained the general idea, left PAX members in their alcoves, and hoped for the best. Two successful men passed by, then…nothing. After a pause and some discussion, a rescue mission was staged to collect the rest of the PAX, and this experiment was put on hold.

    Part 4: Improvise
The rain had mostly quit, and we had a few minutes still. Mosey to the parking lot and do a Lt. Dan in each parking space around the center island.

YHC is immensely grateful for the PAX that showed up today. 42 and rainy will drive away any potential FNG. We will try again next week!

    YNWA,
    -Mr. Holland

  • A different Saturday Post!

  • Solo Batteau

As I left my house and jogged in the rain through the neighborhood towards Batteau I thought this could be a low turnout – something about cold rain/Monday. Corona Virus …..

Well come to find out I was right I was the lone wolf out there this morning so it went down like this – continue running around the park and back through the neighborhood – back to my house – nope I didn’t see another person out there this morning and yes I was completely soaked. .

Certainly missed seeing the pax out there this morning but also certainly understand why I was alone out there today. Hope everyone is felling well – see y’all in the gloom..

  • Three’s Company Breakfast Club Style

3 dudes made it happen Saturday morning for Breakfast Club . Took a little longer route – beautiful morning great conversation – got us lathered up for a solid WOJO beatdown .

Enjoyed it fella’s – see y’all in the gloom !

  • 2.0’s getting worked by the old guys

Well the kids needed to burn some energy so they came to a morning beatdown. This is how it went down.

COP – ran around the parking lot and ended up in the chamber. Started SSH, Merkins, Arm Circles.

    The Thang

Teamed up, young kids teamed up, old men teamed up, and the middle age teamed up for a Dora. 100 push ups, 200 dips, 300 squats with some running around the chamber.

next we did some 4 corners. 1st corner 10 meekins, 2nd corner 20 burpee, 3rd corner 30 mountain climbers and 4th corner split Jack’s. I cant remembers how many rounds. I only remember the kids asking why were we sweating so much.

After the above we hit up the ab machine. 50 windshield wipers, 100 LBC, and 150 gas pumps. The time ran out.

Went back to the flag to take everyone out. I brought 2 of my kids so we had to give them names (got in the car after and they were pumped up about their names). Q took everyone out.

It was fun being the Q with a few of my kids. They are ready to come back for more!

  • OTB – Rucking style

3 PAX took to the trail loop under weight. Proper distancing was observed by ruckers but not by everyone else on the trails. Great Mumblechatter and time this morning. Shakedown needs to take the time at home to start his book about his 20s – put me down for an advanced order.

  • Group Therapy

2 groups of 7.5 warriors fought off the quarantinis and a mid beat down monsoon for the most fun one can have while properly spaced. Just as the ET runners touched down from their descent to the flag the clock struck go time and then properly spaced PAX were off.

    COP

mosey to the circle – SSHs, DQs, Russian Soldiers, Imperial Walkers, Merkins, Flutter Kicks, Freddie’s, Helicopters, Arm circles and reverso

The Thang – Small Group Mediation

Group 1 – 7s/11s on the field of debatable distance

Merkins on one end, WWIIs on the other

Some claim 130 yards, some claim 150 yards. Miles were logged this AM!

    Group 2 – amphitheater Dora

    Pace Car runs the perimeter

Exercises – 100 merkins, 200 Flutter kicks, 300 donkey kicks

ABCs, algore for the six in the traffic circle

    Switch groups!

Curb Crawls on the big circle, merkins in the center 5 to 1

    Final act at the stage

3 rounds of bench kicks/reverse crunches and touch 3 trees

    Back to the flag

    3minutes of Mary

Numberama, Namerama and YHC took us out

please continue to lift up our brothers and their families: DTH and Double Mint; Deuce had a wonderful reminder that we continue to lift up those many small biz owners…. trying times for all.

What a wonderful morning to shut the world off around us. Keep leaning in for the understanding.

    Enjoy the weekend!

  • If a car comes stop the monkey humpers…

With everyone keeping a safe distance 7 of New Markets finest decided to show for a good ole New Market beatdown.

    Thang

Heartbreak 1,2,3- same as Dora 1,2,3 but with a hill (100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, 300 Squats)

  • The Promise Land Haiku

Low 70s greeted a hearty group of runners and bikers on this ever peculiar Friday morning RAMM. It was good to see some familiar faces and have at least 45 minutes of normality these days. As always, I’m appreciative of this group, their humor, their encouragement and their inspiration.

    The Thang…

Admittedly, the newly renovated Bat Cave starting at UofR and going to Huguenot Road has got me all fired up. The blacktop is a sensational running surface and the trail is wide and brand new. And, as it turns out, if you go west on Grove, right at Three Chopt and then down Iris to the start of the trail near UR, it is almost exactly 3 miles from Mary Munford when you get to the end of the trail. I mean, is that not a sign or what?

The 5 milers play the role of Moses in this backblast. The trail itself if about 1/2 mile long. Thus, simple mathematics will tell you that the 5s take the above root right to the start of the trail and then turn around. They get to see the asphalt, the wide trail…they get to hear the quietness…but they have turn around and head back.

The 4s get on Iris and then take a left on Robin. From Robin they take a left on St. Andrews and left on Stonehurst. Take a right on Iris and back to the shovel flag.

This isn’t the easiest of runs…heading back up Iris after 3.5 miles is somewhat of a chore.

Good work, everyone. Please be safe out there and I hope everyone stays healthy.
