  • No snow but plenty of wind

Eleven eager PAX made their way to Twin Team to look for some snow. A thorough investigation of the AO yielded zero snow on the ground but we found a beatdown on the way:

COP: SSH, 10 Burpees, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Down to track/stadium: DORA of 100 Merkins, 200 Jumpsquats, 300 LBCs.

Stay on field – Bear Crawl width of field, 20 Burpees, Bernie Sanders across. Pickle pounders. Mosey to stadium entrace gazebo: 3 rounds of 30 Donkey Kicks & B2W. Head up to BWES playground – 4 Rounds of 8 Pull-ups & 10 WWIIs.

Back to front of BWES under cover partner up – 2 sets of 30 PLTs. Back to flag, YHC took us out. Prayers for Wild Thing & his family, DTH mission trip, and YHC FIL.

Annoucements: Wild Thing M’s memorial service is tomorrow morning in Daville, see pre-blast. Also Poker at Orange Crush place tomorrow night.

NMS – In order to keep progress on Winter Tour going YHC signed up for Q today. Woke up early in anticipation of ice on car & nasty roads. Instead YHC found himself at AO at 5:10. Luckily Doublemint prepared for the non-existent weather as well and arrived early. Plenty others came in hot right before 5:30 and we were off.

Although there was no snow to be had the wind made this maybe the coldest morning so far in the gloom this winter, at least for YHC. Several PAX members were SOP while others were more covered up, you know who you are. Wilson appeared to be 4-5 layers in under his jacket.

Dora on the field got the pax warmed up. One team needed some help on their math in the Dora, can’t remember who that was. Donkey Kicks under the roof were nice but someone ripped one and blamed it on Cooper.

The more veteran pax members took advantage of their experience on the WWIIs on the playground as they opted for grass instead of the sand or mulch areas. Doublemint had to shake out a ton of sand on the final mosey.

YHC hopes the SOJ pax enjoyed their soft 2 hour school delay.

  • Swing your partner

4 men appeared for a beatdown on the eve of the first Richmond ‘blizzard’ of 2020. Mosey to basketball court for COP: SSH, arm circles, Imperial walkers, DQ, helicopters. Head over to the track for bear crawl catch-up. Partner up, start on opposite sides of the track, first partner bear crawls, second partner runs to catch them, then starts bear crawl, while first partner does 10 LBC’s, 20 SSH and 30 shoulder taps prior to running. Repeat until 2 circuits of the track have been completed.

Mosey to hill at the back of school, stopping at each playground area to do 20 dips, 60-80 in all (depending on your definition of “area”). Switch partners, first partner does runs up hill to the playground, then backwards down the hill to relieve second partner, switch. Exercises done by second partner were balls to the wall, squats, merkins and boxcutters. Go until both partners have done all exercises twice.

Mosey to parking lot in front of school, parking lot tracers for 30 seconds, then complete 10 merkins while saying a prayer of thanks for a loved one, total of 3 minutes. Mosey to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

YHC has not been to the Anvil in several weeks, felt great to get back. Mumblechatter was lively throughout, and the title of this backblast came from the PAX singing a song about dosee doeing with their partner. Lots of partner work today, inspired by YHC’s frequent thoughts this week of our brother, Wild Thing, who recently lost his M to cancer. Please keep him and his family in your prayers, and for those wishing to attend the services this weekend, The Carpenter put out a preblast today with details. Thanks for letting me lead today.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing….

  • Memorial Service for Wild Thing’s wife

Wild Thing’s wife (Rhonda Dole) sadly passed away on Sunday 2/2 after a battle with brain cancer. She was always full of life and many described her as the “energizer bunny.” She will be deeply missed and this loss is a tragic turn for our F3 brother.

A memorial service is being held this Saturday, 2/22 at The Bridge church in Mechanicsville (8026 Walnut Grove Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111). Visitation will take place in the sanctuary from 10 – 11am and then the memorial service will start at 11am. There will be a reception after the service.

Please consider coming to support our F3 brother in light of his loss and the tragic loss to so many.

  • SDRAWKCAB

A two hour call with Verizon Fios last night led YHC to the realization that internet service providers have a backwards customer service model…. so our workout today was backwards. Here’s the thang…

    • Mt. Chaplin suicides with an ab exercise at each level. Starting off with Crawl Bears up and down the first level.

YHC’s arrival was met with the empty chill of a Timberwolf gloom devoid of life. (YHC’s first Timberwolf experience yielded two other summer tourists who had equal inexperience with the Twolf…so YHC’s expectations had been set low.)  But before loneliness had the chance to settle in, a veritable stream of headlights broke through the gloom, and a dozen hearty SOJ men brought out the 70-degree sunshine to warm the cockles of YHC’s heart. There were in fact so many more men than YHC expected, that the original plan of Cabers AND Bricks was spontaneously adjusted to a Caber-only workout. (YHC will remember to just bring all the bricks next time). With the humor of Cooper taking a massive dump in front of the headlights, the PAX shouldered their cabers and proceeded to get fit:

    The THANG:

    • x200 LBC – P1 x20 w Caber end on chest while P2 on Six holds other end up with arms fully extended
    • x300 Goblet Squats – P1 x25 while P2 holds other end in low squat
    • Plank for the SIX

Mosey to the Track for COP #3:

    • En route to track, partners shoulder carry caber and complete x5 overhead press every 30 yards
    • x50 Squat Thrust (caber standing on end rocked back and forth between squatting partners)
    • Partners alternate Bearcrawl with Lunges holding caber (x20 yards each)
    • Partners alternate Carioka with Lunges holding caber (x20 yards each)

    Mosey BTTF for COT:

    • Counterama # 12
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • YHC took us out in Prayer

    NMS:

    • Misery loves company and the first thing everyone said after seeing the cabers was “where’s Wilson?!” …apparently his foresight is spot on. Great mumble chatter this morning and even some of the men broke out in song while caber carrying! Pretty sure DK was the ringleader on that number. YHC usually has the workout well thought out ahead of time, but without enough bricks, improvisation was required – it’s always a challenge to come up with a smooth workout on the fly – appreciate the PAX rolling with it today, and Doozie’s most excellent suggestion for the closing Burpee tradeoff. SYITG!
  • Explosively!

9 hooligans gathered in the gloom for 45 minutes of Mary. Here’s how it happened:

COP: SSH // DQs // Imperial Walkers // Copperhead Squats // Plank Jacks // Froggers // Carolina Dry Docks // LBCs // American Hammers

Big Bang: Plank in a circle, shoulder to shoulder, with a headlamp at the center. On the YHC’s command, the pax EXPLOSIVELY jumps up from plank position, runs 10 paces, performs 10 burpees, then runs back to the circle to plank position // Next Round: 20 paces, 20 Jump Squats // Round 3: 30 paces, 30 merkins // Round 4: 40 paces, 40 Monkey Humpers // Round 5: 50 paces, 50 WW2s. Back to plank position for Pickle pounders IC.

Wall-O-Rama: A reprise from DTH’s Hoedown Q on Monday, enjoy some painful rounds against the wall. Round 1: “Dirty HookUp” x20 IC (plank facing wall, place each hand up on wall, then bring them back down, 4ct, alternate hand order half-way through). People’s Chair // Round 2: Donkey KicksDonkey Kick-Offs (Counting up by x5 reps per set with 5 seconds of rest with feet on wall between sets …ascended to x20 DK’s). People’s Chair. // Round 3: Chicken Peckers x20 IC. Mosey to field.

Chutes & Ladders: Run two trees, perform 5 merkins. Bernie Sanders back one tree, then run two more trees, perform 5 merkins. Rinse and repeat to the last tree. // Round 2: Same program with LBCs. // Round 3: Same program with Burpees. Mosey to Monkey Bars.

Pull-Up Circle: The Pax encircles the bars and performs Dips, LBCs and Incline merkins as each member takes turns performing 5 pull ups. Mosey back to the flag.

    Numberama, Namerama, COT.

NMS: Some highlights of today: Handshake cannot begin an AO without making a comment on YHC’s outfit, but thanks to TYA all attention was quickly shunted to mocking his Lululemon pants. // The pax enjoyed YHC’s insistence that we jump from plank position EXPLOSIVELY, even as Saab’s definition of explosively resembled a man getting off the ground after being gored by a bull // Speaking of bovine, Hitchhiker sounds like a cow in labor while doing the wall-o-rama // After the COT, we returned to mocking TYA’s pants. A good inclusio for the AO.

    Great work gents!

  • Dos Amigos

    2 came, 2 saw, 2 conquered hills

Oh, and we saw TYA driving around.

  • Heavy Traffic at SOT

Nine committed men stepped out of the car and into the drizzle minutes before the start at SOT this morning.  Idle chatter and YHC almost missed 5:30.

    The Thang

Mosey to the west end of the school and circle up.

    • DQs
    • Windmills
    • SSHs in cadence x 10 then Merkins x 10.  Repeat 3x
    • Monkey Humpers in cadence x 25 then Carolina DDs x 10.  Repeat 3x

Mosey to the loading dock and partner up for a failed experiment.  Partner 1 performs Merkins and Squat Jumps while P2 hops up and down on the loading dock.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room on the dock.  Audible.

Mosey to the bottom of the hill and partner up.  P1, Wall Sits.  P2 runs to the top and does 10 Merkins and 10 Jump Squats.

Move to the sidewalk around the concession stand.  Elbow Plank to Reg Plank and back down.  5 on each side.  Then, reverse lunges x 12.  Repeat 3x.

Back to the bottom of the hill.  Crawl Bear up the hill for 10 paces.  Then, Bernie to the top.  Repeat with 20 paces.  A 3rd round was in order, but the hill was unusually busy with auto traffic this morning.

To the tennis courts.  10 Merkins, 10 Jump Squats at each corner.  Mosey the short side, Spring the long.  Wall sits for the Six.  Then, finish with 30 paces of Crawl Bear.

Indian Run around the back of the school.  Thanks to Chick-fil-a for starting off strong.

Around the front of the school, partner up.  P1 does 25 dips on the benches, P2 does Ball Dippers.  Repeat 3x.  Wall sits for the last minute and back to the flag.

Don’t forget Poker Night at Orange Crush’s house this Sat.

Prayers for Nancy’s coworker struggling with Cancer.

Thanks for your patience this morning, fellas.  It’s been a bit since I put my name on the Q Sheet, and the rust was visible.

  • Trio for the UR Amphitheater

    COP:

    SSH’s x 20

    Imperial Walkers x 15

Run a mile over and into campus to the amphitheater.

18 steps just like Dogwood Dell

5 WWII’s on each step down

10 Box Jumps on first step

    30 Monkey Humpers OYO

5 Jump Squats on each step going down

    Switch up x 3 rounds

    Triple Check # 2:

Balls to the Wall on Greek column

    Box Cutters

Bear Crawl length of stage, crawl bear back

    One round because of time

Mosey back a mile towards the VSF.

    BTTF!

Numbers (3), Names and Handshake took us out.

Great fun this morning, gentlemen! Thanks for coming out, getting wet and working hard. You can always count on at least one or two other PAX to be in the parking lot at 5am on Wednesdays! Thanks!

    SYITG!
