5 all stars gathered at Heartbreak Ridge to try their luck on a Tuesday morning.

Head to the back lot for COP: SSH x 20, IW’s x 10, DQ x 10, HRM’s x 10, Scorpion Kicks x 10. Enough & mosey to the front picnic area for the main event.

Simple gambling this morning with the ole Deck of Cards. 200 total exercise reps for each card drawn (40 each x 5 men). Cards drawn at random by various PAX members. As each card is drawn, mosey to one of 4 stations as a group to perform the exercise and then back to base. Home base at the front picnic area.
    – Diamonds at Quioccasin sign
    – Hearts at little library
    – Clubs in the corner lot
    – Spades near the front entry

Lighthouse cut the deck and we went to work for 40 minutes. First card drawn = ace of diamonds (scorpion kicks). Best card drawn = seven of spades (arm circles). Worst card drawn = jack of clubs (burpees). A significant ruling was made to include side to side as proper pickle pounder form. Sporadic mumble chatter at the casino table and Attila captured the award for loudest Superman.

Mosey back to the flag for Numberama, Namerama, Announcements (winter tour, welcome Oyster), and YHC took us out. Great work gents!

  • Tomato Run 6 Pack

We had six show up for a cool 70 and sunny run this morning. Here is what went down:

No Idea and Mudface ran / walked their loop around the schools. Trout, Rounders, Oyster and YHC did the Farmhouse loop (about 4.2 miles). Trout and Rounders ran ahead at a sub 9 minute mile pace and Oyster and YHC ran an average 10:15 mile pace today.

    Numberama, Namerama

Announcements, winter tour is going on, Welcome Oyster as he is about finished with the north of the wall AO’s. Glad to run with you this morning and look forward to seeing you in the gloom.

Trout took us out in COT. Have a great week gents…CB

  • Where did Trout go?

6 PAX were unable to lose Jville so we ended up with a prime number 7 after we got started. Instead of pounding some beers we pounded some pickles & more:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Helicopters, Merkins, Reverse Crunches

THE THANG: 2 Burpees per lightpost on side street, Jville joins us, then over to Blacktop: Polar Bear across, 20 merkins, crab walk back. 3 sets of 25 PLTs.

Over to swing set: 3 sets of 10 Chazz Michael Michaels. Over to side of school without doors: 4 rounds of 30 Donkey kicks & 20 Jump squats. Over to benches – 3 sets of 30 dips & 10 Box Jumps.

Head up a block with 5 merkins each light. up and back. then finish with some mary: Pickle pounders, APDs, LBCs, and American Hammers.

NMS – Nice 50 degree temps and strong pax. Rumors from SOJ are that Punisher is a Happy hour workout light on exercise, YHC wanted to dole out a good ground & pound workout. Its been a while since Chazz Michael Michaels came out but PAX enjoyed them.

BB title comes from a winded Q calling for a 20 count from Trout when Trout was not in the PAX. To be fair it was dark and Scrum joined us in the COP so the Q couldn’t see him clearly. YHC considered adding him to the PAX list regardless. YHC was worried about Jville’s mobility with his injured calf but then he proceeded to tear up the beatdown. True to form Chum hurt his shin on the Box Jumps ensuring that one of the Glouchester boys is always on the mend.

  • Mamba Memories

Yesterday morning in the hills north of Los Angeles, the sporting world lost one its great stewards of the game played in gyms across the globe Kobe Bryant. Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna, and 7 other fathers, mothers, daughters and sons perished in a helicopter trip turned into tragedy. Love him or hate him, on or off the court, the world lost a master in his craft. Today’s HoeDown served as a statistical memorandum to “The Black Mamba.”

    COP

Mosey to the bottom of Lindsay Court, a variant from the norm, much like Mr. Bryant, who jumped from High School to the Pros.

Numberama, Namerama, YHC took us out.

The darkest AO in Richmond continues to live up to its name with near pitch black conditions as the PAX moseyed to the bottom of Lindsay. Seeking a guiding light YHC changed course and shot back towards TES. The news surrounding the sporting world played a heavy hand in YHC’s beatdown for this edition of HoeDown. Kobe played nemesis to all that faced him. He broke my heart as a 7 year old when it became apparent he’d never don the teal and purple. I watched from 3000 miles away as he set the basketball world on fire for the next 2 decades. A master of his craft and influencer of a game that controls my home state from November to April, or May if we’re lucky. I tip my cap to The Black Mamba, The Greatest Charlotte Hornet who never was .

    Enjoyed it fellas! SYITG

  • No Dry Spot

A PAX of ten, including two FNGs, assembled under rainy skies for Saturday’s GridIron. At the appointed time, we formed our circle, with more detailed disclaimer for our new guys, and began with 25 x SSHs, 15 x Helicopters, 15 x IWs, 15 x DQs, 15 x Russian Soldiers, and 15 x Arm Circles (small/big, forward, then reverse).

Mosey across the football field and head for the Short Pump Middle School north wall for 10 minutes of Donkey Kicks. Not unlike 10 minutes of Burpees, begin each minute of a 10 minute stretch by completing a Donkey Kicks on your own, targeting 15 to 20 per round. Rest prior to the start of the next round. Target adding 5 more reps for the final round.

Move to the shelter at the bus loop and spread out with each guy taking a pair of poles. At the first stop, complete 20 x Pole Smokers. When all are done, Lunge Walk as a group (towards southeast under the shelter) past one set of poles to a second set. Complete People’s Chair for time with one guy counting backwards from 25. Three other exercises at three stops with Lunge Walks in between – 15 x Plank Merkins, 30 x APDs, and 30 x Imaginary Jump Ropes. Complete two rounds of these five exercises, moving in between.

Drop for LBC intermission involving 25 x several LBC variations: regular, right leg straight on ground, left leg straight on ground, left leg over right leg, right leg over left leg, both legs straight, and finish with regular.

Complete another round of exercises using the bus shelter poles (returning northwest), but replaced Plank Merkins with Hand Release Merkins.

Mosey back to the picnic pavilion adjacent to the start. Four guys position themselves on the outside of the picnic tables (eight total in outside position) and two guys begin on the inside of the tables. Inside guys complete 5 Abyss Merkins together while guys outside complete Step Ups. Rotate counterclockwise, with outside guys alternating legs with Step Ups. Complete three rounds.

Using same approach (distribution of dudes and counterclockwise movement), change exercises so inside guys complete Dips and outside guys complete Bench Kicks. Stay in place at tables for a few minutes of standing stretches. Slide to the parking lot for the COT and Attila took us out.

Nice work fellas. Welcome, again, to our new guys.

  • A battle for the not-it Q slot

I lost. I did not want to be the Q this morning, because I had a totally selfish agenda but Shakes guilted me into it. Official route was forest hill loop, that Helix and Pavarotti completed, followed by extra credit full monty loop for Shakedown and I. We passed Ollivander on his second loop, and got word that Offshore was wandering around solo as well. The trails were muddy in spots, but RVA Trail report gave the thumb’s up and the trails were shock full of runners. We past a few feet from a herd of deer that did not give a f***.

We may have left early. If so, that was the fault of Shakedown as he had the Q at the time.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Tour De Batteau

6 F3 champions made their way to Batteau for a DTH beatdown.

At 5:28 YHC was coming into the AO hot and had to catch Bleeder leading the PAX in a quick mosey around the parking area. Ending at the Pickle Ball court for the COP.

    COP – Bleeder

From what I can recall SSH, Merkins, LBC’s and possibly a couple other warm ups

Mosey to the stone patio area

5 incline merkins at the bottom 5 LBC’s at the top increase by 5 each trip back and forth

Bleeder hands the Q to Face-plant and mosey to the bottom of the hill by the pond and partner up for a Dora

    100 LBC’s, 200 Flutter Kicks, 300 air squats

Face-plant hands off the Q to Sippy Cup – Mosey to a spot between both staircase in front of the pond. Same partners run in opposite directions to the set of stairs on their sides. Bear Crawl up stairs to meet your partner at the top. WOW!!!

Mosey to play ground area just behind tennis courts, partner pull-ups. Each partner trade pull ups starting at 1 and ending at 5

Sippy Cup hands the Q to Doozy, Mosey back to Pickle Ball courts for a prostitute. 5 Merkins, 10 Carolina Drydocks, 15 Plankjacks, 5 Burpies. Time is called, head back to the flag.

    Numbers/Names YHC took us out

    NMS:

T-Claps to the PAX for picking up the Q and literally running with it. With a visitor to the AO this morning the PAX decided to take a tour of Batteau and show off what it has to offer. The Bear Crawls up the steps from Sippy Cup are actually outlawed in most of the continental United States and Canada but are sure to now be sprinkled into future Batteau Beatdowns and possibly make their way to a few other AO’s.

YHC texted DTH once he got home to make sure he was okay, text back was that he stayed up late planning a Beat Down and forgot to set his alarm. He also reassured YHC that there will be a thorough beating next week to make up for his missing this week.

  • River[ups and]downs

Six thoroughbreds gathered in the gloom at Bettie Weaver ES for an extended mosey – here’s how it went:

Right on Robious, left on Riverdowns South and curse the hills that YHC forgot were back here. Loop around Royal Crest and wonder where the downhill parts start. Pass Gumbo’s yurt and wave to the sherpas and yetis. Finally descend to the Robious flatlands. 4s right on Robious and back to the flag by way of the access road by the JRHS football field. 5s/6s noodle around Riverdowns North and do whatever it is that 5s/6s do, then back to the flag by way of the JRHS football field road.

Numberama, namearama, and YHC took us out.

Great to have Garbage Plate join us on the Winter Tour!

  • 2nd F at steambell brewery

YHC’s band, Sons of Zebedee, will be rockin the Steambell Brewery from 7-10 this upcoming Friday night the 31st. Steambell is located on Southside somewhere in Midlothian — would be great to have some friendly faces out there in the crowd for our first Steambell gig!

Breaking Bread and Enjoying the Fellowship

Representative’s from three of F3RVA’s nano-regions, converged on Belt Blvd this beautiful evening to serve up some food and fellowship with our brothers. After Husky blessed the food, twelve Medical Respite patients were served:

    Pork BBQ w/ buns

    Beef BBQ w/ buns

    Cole Slaw

    Baked Beans

    Cookies

    Lemonade

    Tea

The twelve were very appreciative and very hungry, but there was a somewhat somber mood with the TV blaring the news of Kobe Bryant’s passing (may he Rest in Peace).

If you have never participated and experienced Breaking Bread, please sign up on the Q sheet (every 4th Sunday of the month.) It is very rewarding and humbling. Any questions, please ask Lab Rat as he is the head of this great charity.
