  • Twin Team claims another

No Q, no problem. We haven’t reversed the OG in a while so YHC spent some time trying to explain the route to the PAX. Apparently the area around the Tarrington clubhouse is more confusing than I realized. Go around the school before heading up Twin Team and then down through Tarrington.

Good to have Long Pole out for his first F3 morning run, YHC led him on a little extra through Powderham after Twin Team had it’s way with him. OC and Honeymoon cruised along until Lugnut sped up to join them after his headlamp died. Apologies to the 4 milers, the route didn’t quite hit the mark so they had to add a little extra to get it right.

    Announcements:

Thanksgiving – 6am workout at 45MOM, 1 hour, TYA will retell the story of the first Thanksgiving in VA

Friday 11/29 – Forest Hill Park – run loops every hour on the hour

HDHH – 12/11 at the new O’Tooles on Midlothian Turnpike 5:30ish start – no running beforehand, straight to the bar

  • 4 miles the hard way!

5 runners and 2 ruckers came out to the Tomato Run to enjoy the beautiful cold.

Ran the back of the schools to Honey Meadows, went through to Kings Charter up to the farmhouse and back. Came back in the front of the schools just for fun. Marco Polo took the lead position and killed it. 150 merkins and squats on the run. Added an extra 25 when No Idea and Mudface joined us for a grand total of 175.

    Numbers, Names, Announcements

Thanksgiving workout at Mary Munford at 6. There will be at least one clown car leaving from Wawa around 5:30 or so.

    SYITG!

  • Recall picks up the pace

Everyone that showed up this early Sunday to run was dressed for winter except one. We’ll let you guess who that was. No one was sure which direction we were going when we headed out but we adjusted on the fly and were all back to the starting point an hour later. Recall has been consistently posting and running his own pace but today kept up Honeymoon and I company as Annie pulled us along. Ceranno kept us in his sights and pulled out a solid 6+ miles.

All good stuff to get us primed for New Market football watching in Duke’s garage.

  • Fingers Crossed

Ten plump turkeys strutted their way over to the parking lot for this week’s iteration of Hoedown. Nary a mention of the Redskins today so off we mosey’d to the front of the school, passing the neon ladies, for something that went like this.

    COP
    High Knees x15
    Butt Kickers x15
    Speed Skaters x10
    Don Quixotes x10
    Flutter Kicks x20
    Mountain Climbers x10
    HRMs x10

    The Thang
Mosey back over to the blacktop for Lindsays. Squats and straight up merkins. Run the distance of the blacktop between sets.

Scurry over to Linsday Ct for repeating iterations of catch me if you can. Partner up with one partner doing 5x burpees while the other Bernie Sanders up the hill. Burpee-er catches Bernie by running forwards then switch. Recover back down the hill and repeat 2x with WWIIs and Jump Squats.

Meander through the darkness towards West Drive Circle, stopping at the circle. Since we lost Toto we could safely complete a triple check. LT Dans and WWIIs while the third runs the loop.

Dosey Do back to the AO proper, stopping at each mailbox and performing 5 merkins. We completed 0 merkins.

Audible and ramble down Hepler, stopping at each lamp post or house light and perform 5 merkins. Collect the PAX at the bottom and then run back to the VSF.

Sequentially declare our position, state names, announcements, random thoughts by Offshore and then YHC took us out.

    Moleskin
Great job by the PAX this morning, enduring another Splinter workout with no theme nor reason for leading.

YHC forgot that Westham doesn’t have mailboxes (at least none at the street) but a SNAFU was avoided by modifying to lamp posts.

Mumblechatter was minimal this morning. Everyone appears to be ready for the week of giving thanks for all that we have.

    Announcements

    • Celebration of gathering at Berkeley plantation is at 6am on Thursday morning at Mary. 1 hour special.
    • Black Friday CSAUP 7am Forest Hill Park

    Splinter out.

  • That’s Some Good Bar-b-que

2-PACs sallied forth into the evening Gloom for some fellowship and a good meal.

COP (FYI: this means “Circle of Pain,” as in, the PAX has to circle up, which the PAX did – Vers thought this was weird.):

YHC failed to read all of the instructions while starting to cook bar-b-que. YHC asked for advice from a more experienced member of the PAX, who suggested that a quick flip of the Q to her (YHC’s M) would help, and things were quickly straightened out. With that and a ton of advice, she re-earned her FO3 designation. Someone give the lady a tassel.

    Back to YHC…

    Out and Back’s (Evolution 1):

Slow Mosey…to and from the car. YHC and Vers carried items in bags or crock pots. 3 rounds.

    Slow Drive-sy:

Drive to 180 Belt. Blvd. Try to find as much traffic as possible at 5 p.m. on an RVA Sunday.

    Back and In’s (Evolution 2):

Reverso the previous exercise with the following modifications:

    1. Unload, and
    2. Add one round of stair walking (up AND down) as part of each evolution.

    3 rounds.

    Serve-a-Ram-a

Vers and YHC heated and served bar-b-que, mac-and-cheese, and veggies. Self-serve on the beverages. Cookies for dessert.

A minor scuffle was avoided when the Medical Q (Nurse) executed a Search and Seizure (or perhaps Search and Seizure Avoidance) Order against a resident who had absconded with 3 chocolate-infused cookies against doctor’s orders. The names – even the F3 names – were changed to protect the innocent (and to avoid any HIPPA Violations).

    Clean-a-Ram-a:

Vers crushed this, doing virtually all of the work OYO. Like when you and a partner do Dora 100-200-300 and the other guy has done all 100 merkins by the time you return from the first run. Well done.

    Out and Back’s (Evolution 3):

Rinse, wash, and stack. Repeato. AYG.

PAX went down stairs with empty dishes, yet full hearts and full stomachs. 2 Rounds. Mission accomplished (no banners were flown).

    NMS:

Another successful evening of food and fellowship. Vers continues to crush this, each time taking on more and more of the responsibilities on her own. YHC estimates he’s down to 25-30% of the on-site work. Basically, YHC is eye-candy at this point. Way to go, Vers!

For any PAX who have not had a chance to do this as well as for the handful of PAX who have told YHC they would do this, but have not yet signed up (and you know who you are…), there are plenty of spots on the Q-sheet.

  • Breakfast Club Ghost Writer

They came, they saw, they conquered the run

  • Always looks better on paper

21 of RVA’s finest came out and humored YHC is his efforts to try something new at Dogpile.

This is how it went down

Circle up around the SF for the disclaimer and the plan for the day

COP replaced with the Cotton-eyed Joe – Cotton Eyed Joe by Rednex (3:14) Start with SSH to music when singing starts. When Banjo (as well as the fiddle) solo starts switch to Hillbillies, then music changes and woman sings, switch to merkins, Then switch back to Side Straddle Hops when man sings again. Rinse & Repeat: Man singing: SSH / Banjo solo: Hillbillies/ Woman singing: Merkins

    THANG

The PAX counted off into fours and formed groups. YHC gave instructions on the fact that there are 4 stations set up throughout Dogpile (YHC should have given additional details but more on that later).

Objective – Be the first team to complete all four stations with these simply rules: Must stay as a PAX an the Cinder Block Coupon just go with you to every station

With that the PAX was off

Station #1 (The VITA Trail) – Miles of Merkins – Run the loop, stop 10 times and complete 5 Booyah Merkins and 5 Workins

Station #2 (The Nickel Bridge) – Bridge the Gap – Form a line. Leapfrog over each other down the bridge till you reach the river. Run backwards to the start

Station #3 (The Pipeline) – Triple Check – 1. Run the loop, 2. LBC’s, 3. Coupon Swings. Once completed find a log to carry to the next station

Station #4 (The Rusty Cage) – Team Cage – As a PAX, complete 100 Burp Ups, 100 Jerkins, and 100 Dips

Mosey back to the SF for Numberrama, Namerama, Announcements, YHC took us out

    MOLESKIN

Well you win some and you lose some. YHC learned today that sometime even if you want things to be a surprise, its better give more information.

YHC had marked each location starting area with glow sticks but some of the glow sticks were hard to find. The result, the PAX was confused and didn’t finish

YHC does hope that the PAX enjoyed something new and hopefully next time things will go a lot smoother

11 rugged warrior prepared for the Thanksgiving holiday with a strong Gridiron beatdown.  Despite cold temps and sluggish energy, the PAX persevered and conquered the morning.  Here is how it went down:

Good work by the PAX today as we combined cardio with some ground and pound.  In addition, future sites for the pull-up bars were assessed.  Johnsonville will continue to work with the county to get those installed.

Congrats to Blue Moon on his marathon completion last week.  He was under 3 ½ hours if I remember correctly, so t-claps for that beast of a warrior.

Good to see Handshake at the Gridiron.  We are always open to the over-sleepers!

Remember the convergence activities on Thursday and Friday this week.  Eat well and God is good all of the time!

  • Merkins? Just a few

Six intrepid men arose to meet a decently warm November morn, enough that some bare legs were present. Here is how it went down.

Mosey to blacktop for COP: SSH, LBC’s, DQ, arm circles, helicopters.

Mosey to end of field for some run and fun.

Run 100% of field, 100 LBC’s, return to start, 20 HRM.

Run 75% of field, 75 plank jacks, return, 20 HRM.

Run 50% of field, 50 SSH, return, 20 HRM.

Run 25% of field, 25 2 count flutter kicks, return, 20 HRM.

Run 10% of field, 10 merkins, return, 20 HRM, Al Gore for the six.

Mosey to playground for 11’s, Iron Mikes and Iron Hulk, because, well, more merkins. Bear crawl and lunge in between.

Mosey back to flag, numberama, namerama, YHC took us out.

    NMS

Most of the PAX had been present for Mudface’s merkin challenge yesterday at The Anvil, and probably would have been okay with few or zero today, but this was not to be. YHC did try to break them up between other exercises, however. The 4th F was omnipresent this morning, with Corned Beef and Trout being the main suppliers, and Mudface was in fine form from the beginning, with some Emoji-like counting during COP, along with almost kicking YHC accidentally on purpose during the 11’s. As usual, it was a lot of fun to lead, and congrats to Beulah for posting the first time on Monday and every day this week. 231 Merkins by YHC’s count. Nicely done!

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Mary is Scatterbrained

    Mary is Scatterbrained

Eleven runners plus four on rubber didn’t really gather at 530 and everyone did a variety of things.

Due to limited numbers at 530, YHC called the negative split route up Commonwealth and east on Monument. Turning around at 23 minutes and getting back in 22.

The original intent was to do Fartleks. Sippy showed up right at 530 and YHC was able to convince him that Fartleks were the way to go. So, 15 minute warm up followed by ten 1 minute pickups. 1 minute hot at a faster than 5k pace followed by 30 second recovery. Do this for 15 minutes then cool down for 15 minutes on the way back to RAMM.

RAMM is very scattered these days. Early starters, modest numbers at 530, then there is always a good contingent of gears folks. Still always good to see everyone.

Make sure you come out next Thursday for a fake news history lesson on Thanksgiving. See TYA for details.

Also, black friday shopping starts at 7am at shelter 1 in forest hill park. TYA has coupons.

Everyone reach out to someone they haven’t connected with in a while and just give thanks for being a part of your life.

Hasta luego amigos. ¡Vamos a comer Qdoba!

    Splinter.
