  • That sounded moist.

A fab five with four kettlebells and one rucksack set forth on another 5am edition of the gloom at River and Ridge. With YHC on the mend from the week long plague, and a full dose of cabin fever, it was time to get out of the house. Near perfect temps for the Early Bird Special …. can’t get much better than that.

Strong mumble chatter both vocal and gastrointestinal this morning. Enjoyed incorporating elements of this beatdown normally reserved for Circus Maximus, MANNdate and Mondays at Midlo Middle. The Tuckahoe EarlyBird Special momentum remains strong as PAX members continue to relish in the “gained 30-45 minutes” each Wednesday.

    Enjoyed it fellas! SYITG. -Wojo

  • Kettle Beast

Three strong men showed up for another off the books kettle bell workout at Midlo Middle on a Monday morning.

Still being an unofficial AO, YHC coordinated and took the Q. Not having any terribly original ideas, YHC just looked at the most recent Circus Maximus BB and shamelessly copied the workout with some alterations.

    Here’s how it went down:

Farmer’s carry to the front NW corner of the school.

    COP:

    • SSHs (to get things moving)
    • Jazzercise
    • Cherry Pickers
    • Helicopters

The Thang: A Beast with Bells

Using the front of the school (~100 yards), and stopping at 3 spots down and back for exercises. 6 of each exercise at each of the 6 spots (at the “25”,”50″,and “75”, and the “75”, “50”, and “25”), with the exercises adding up cumulatively with each round. Alternate around the worlds and lunges in between each spot (YHC audibled to only around the worlds after realizing that lunges were going to be too slow and painful, especially with all the goblet squats each round)

    Round 1: Goblet Squats
    Round 2: Goblet Squats, Halos
Round 3: Goblet Squats, Halos, Lawnmower Pulls

Pause the Beast to run a lap around the school Indigenous People run style, and a pretty fast pace!

Round 4: Goblet Squats, Halos, Lawnmower Pulls, High Pulls

We ran out of time for 6 full rounds with the cumulative exercises taking more time, but thankfully, had a few minutes to do a bit of Mary.

    Mary:

    • Boat/Canoe – several rounds at the Q’s call
    • Weighted American Hammers (IC x10)

Farmer’s carry back to the flag

    COT:

    Numberama, Namearama

Announcerama – Please keep YHC’s niece in your prayers as she’s struggling with depression.

    NMS:

Thanks for showing up for another KB beat down. KB might stand for Killer Beast this morning! It was tough!

Trying to get out of the parking lot was an adventure, as what seemed like half of the middle school student body and their parents were trying to squeeze into the parking lot.

Per Rosie’s suggestion at No Toll, YHC plans to invite Johnsonville and White Deer to join us next week, as this might be a more convenient KB option for them to partake of.

  • Caravan of cars at HBR

An even dozen, including 1 visitor, arrived at varying times to Heartbreak Ridge on a gorgeous morning. Again no Q so Handshake started us off:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Merkins, Flutterkicks, Hairy Rocketts (horizonal version) aka inverted upside down Scorpion kicks. Back to main lot for: Quad Check – 1) B2tW, Flutterkicks, Merkins, Run lot & back. Head down to Jerkin Gym: 3 Sets of 10 Jerkins. Pass Q to Offshore:

Over to Heartbreak hill – Triple check of Merkins, WWIIs, Bernie Sanders up hill.

Hand Q to Garbage Plate, 1 lap of Indian Run then over to ramp: Crawl Bear up hill, bar shimmy down. 2 times. Q over to Honeydo: 3 sets of PLTs, back to flag for some Pickle Pounders. YHC took us out.

NMS – Today was textbook Hot Potato where PAX were pushed for the full 45 min. Quad check got us going from Handshake then other Qs never let up. Good to have Stump Jumper back visiting RVA. He debated whether on posting at Spider Run or HBR but in the end he gave us the perfect dozen number to work with. P-Trap, the married version, was back out having resting his shoulder injury. No clue whether the shoulder injury occurred on the Honeymoon or not, hence the need for more Pickle Pounder practice.

Fireman Ed was extra mouthy today, with his JETS drubbing on the Skins still on his mind. Low, low times for those who still HTTR. Lighthouse is officially a HBR regular now as YHC can’t remember a week he wasn’t there. Merkin count estimated in the 180-200 range based on Quad & Triple check inclusions. Your mileage may vary.

  • Showbiz Pizza!

15 Strong Showed up for a Duke Q, but Duke didn’t have a clue what was on the agenda! Either way the PAX was off at 530.

    NMS:

Strong work today by all! Appreciate the PAX indulging YHC on a Q not planned. The title of the BB comes from Hardywood trying to convince Roper to open a Showbiz pizza up in the lobby of the James Center. Now all I want is bad pizza, skee ball and enough coupons to get a spider ring! Have a great day fellas, like DTH, take your joy and spread it to everyone you come in contact with today!

  • Turkey trot the hard way practice

The Mighty Nein met in the parking lot at DaVille this morning for some Gloom shenanigans. Parking lot tracers to get the blood pumping followed by what promised to be a No Idea and Mudface friendly workout. Neither were in attendance, but we perservered anyways. We made our way over to the middle school track, stopping at the bus parking lot for some warmup COP. It was Beulah’s first bootcamp workout, and second F3 gathering. Good on ya, brother! Hail and well met! We took a minute to give him a proper disclaimer then made our way over to the track for our main event. Opus manned the stop watch and gave us head’s up on our 5 minute times….every 5 minutes we bang out 20 merkins, 20 squats, then continue our way along the track. Beautiful vistas along the way include the canyon of dips, and the towering pullup bars….feel free to pull over and enjoy these majestic wonders at your own speed. After 4 rounds, we gathered back together to make our way back to the unplanted shovel flag by way of burpee indian runs. Timer went off again as we circled up, so 20 more reps called out by Opus.

It was a beautiful morning, and I have to say it has been too long for me. Time to get back after it.

Apology of the week goes to all DaVille regulars for being MIA for way too long. Also, Yard Sale for burpee indian runs.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • So much for active listening…

A dirty dozen descended upon U of R to see what happens when the Q-sheet is left open. YHC chose his favorite, fabled 5 fingers route.

Although I counted 3 who covered the route exactly as prescribed, I learned something today…it doesn’t matter the order of the fingers – just that you get them all in.

    Great work today fellas.

    Saab abides (when able)

  • Add title

Four assembled for this evening’s Punisher. Mosey to the western side of the school for the startup Quadrilateral of Pain with Mountain Climbers, Rosalitas, Suzanne Somers(es), and Don Quixotes (no SSHs and no Arm Circles).

Short mosey near the outdoor classroom for Progressive Alphabet. On our backs, we trace the letter A with our feet then hop up and jog to the edge of the garden (about 25 yards) and back. On our backs again for A and B, then run. And so on until A through Z completed.

Stroll to the edge of the school’s driveway. Complete 10 Merkins at the streetlight, jog as a group to the next streetlight heading north up Hermitage Road and complete 10 more Merkins. Continue north on Hermitage to Claremont, cross Hermitage, and head south, completing 10 Merkins at each light. Stopped at 20 lights total.

Mosey back across Hermitage to the side of the school for Squat Ring of Fire. One guy holds a low Squat while the others, in Al Gore position, count down from 30. Make one round then return to the parking lot for the Square of Trust and YHC took us out. Thanks Lockjaw for the backblast title.

  • New skins, old wine

A half dozen posted at the southern end of the Libbie Mill Library parking lot for the temporarily relocated GridIron. We exited our vehicles prior to the start time, probably due to some enthusiasm for temporary new grounds, and tried to ignore the cutting northeast wind.

Advertised as a Hot Potato affair, we followed through with this and everyone had a go. Chum Bucket started with a mosey to the wind-shielded loading dock of the library for the startup COP with SSHs, DQs, Russian Soldiers, and Arm Circles. Moved into a nearby field for five round rotation of 10 Merkins and 10 two count Freddy Mercuries. Hop up and Lunge Walk until time to tag.

Byproduct took round 2 and ran us south to the grassy area south of the library parking lot. Completed traditional Jack Webb with Merkins and unweighted Overhead Presses. Remained in place and partnered for two rounds of PLTs. Lunge Walk for remaining few minutes.

Tater ran us down the hill and along the creekside trail. We stopped at a couple of new exercise stations. At the first one, we completed a couple of rounds of Dips alternated with Derkins. At the second one, we completed several rounds of Pull Ups and Chin Ups.

White Deer brought us back along the trail to the high point of the hill and had us pull large rocks from the drainage basin. We tossed these stones into the nearby grass, Bear Crawled to the tossed stone, and tossed it again. After a couple of rounds of this, we turned and worked our way back, tossing a few more times and completing Overhead Presses, Weighted Squats, and Curls a couple of times, too. We returned our stones to the basin.

Attila took us back to the library via mosey. We completed some Pickle Pounders adjacent to the library building and resumed our mosey to the middle of the parking lot where, after a round of Tracers, we completed Burpees in each space across one column of parking followed by WWII Sit Ups, then we repeated the same.

Johnsonville finished at the loading dock with a triple check involving People’s Chair, Merkins, and a mosey down the parking lot and back. We returned to the vehicles, circled up, and Attila took us out.

Coffee at Crafted in the Libbie Mill development afterwards. Good food and coffee and the heating system works well. Most of us hit Fauquier Avenue in the City’s Bellevue neighborhood where we saw Blue Moon at mile 22 of his marathon. Nice work pushing through Blue Moon. The extended fellowship was fun. Johnsonville makes a nice Bloody Mary. Sorry if I missed something guys.

  • Do Your Thing

Sunday trails were beautiful, and everybody did what suited them best. ET’s was the usual gathering place post run for muffins and hot beverages.

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Tomato Run at the Farm House

4 regulars and 1 FNG showed up for a cool morning run. Mud Face did his usual route around the schools. The rest of us 4 ran to kings charter neighborhood around the farm house and returned. Marco Polo wanted to get an additional mile so he ran to cul de sac in Honey Meadows and back behind the schools to our starting point where the remaining 3 we ran to the front of the schools and completed 4.25 miles.

Numberama, Namerama and we welcomed our new person Rhett Rutman who is an Elementary PE Teacher and we came up with Beulah (the famous gym teacher from the movie Porky’s.) Beulah – Welcome to F3 and look forward to seeing you again in the gloom. Cheers, CB
