It is no secret that YHC does not like to run, so when the Merkin challenge come around he embraces it completely. If you come to a workout where he is the Q in the month of November, then Merkins are a given.

This morning was one of those strangely cold and dark sunny and 70 mornings, so it was determined that it would be themed on animals that live in the cold.

Strong work was put in by all and Merkin count this morning was between 300 and 350.

It was an honor to lead.

  • PREBLAST – Marathon Day Modification for GridIron

PREBLAST – Marathon Day Modification for GridIron

GridIron regular and all around good guy Blue Moon will be running his first full marathon on Saturday. GridIron will be relocated to Libbie Mill Library for marathon Saturday only with a 7:30 AM start and, as usual, a 1 hour run time. Hot potato Q planned. Will follow with some coffee and heat at nearby Crafted.

Those that are interested will head after coffee to the marathon course for race viewing. We are planning to informally meet up in the median strip near the 3800 block of Fauquier Avenue. Best access – avoid race course interaction by taking Interstate 95 north to the Hermitage Road exit, going left on Westbrook Avenue after the exit, taking a right on Brook Road, and somewhere near Bellevue Avenue (the next stoplight on Brook Road), take a right into the neighborhood and park on the street somewhere.

Anyone else running the half or full? We’ll look for you. Text or call Chum Bucket or Johnsonville with questions.

  • 11/21 – Most Merkins Challenge at the FORGE

11/21 – Most Merkins Challenge at the FORGE

Brothers – DTH will be Q’ing a Most Merkins Challenge at the Forge next week (11/21/19). The number to beat is 859, so shooting for 900 in 45 minutes. Yes, it will be difficult. Yes, CSAUP is what we do. Join us if you want to add to your November Merkin Challenge numbers…or if you crave Venison Steak…which will be rewarded to those men who complete this Challenge with DTH.

[NOTE: There will be an alternative Q leading a standard Forge beatdown for those unable to join the madness]

  • Today Letter – “C” (for cold and cumulative)

Today the PAX became familiar with words that begin with the letter “C.”  On a really cold morning, the cumulative effect of KB exercises crushed the PAX.  Here is how it went down?

    • COP
      • 30 SSH
      • 15 Russian soldiers
      • 10 DQ
      • 15 helicopters
      • 20 HRM
      • 40 2x LBC
      • 20 2x APD
    • Mosey to the bus loop for a cumulative beast with lawnmower pulls (each arm), high pulls, KB swings, sit ‘n presses and weighted American hammers, with around the worlds and lunges in between stops
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Good work by the PAX this morning.  Johnsonville and Lighthouse fought off the cold with a history/social studies lesson on Ukraine.  White Deer continue to set the pace with a KB.  All in all, it was one of those mornings where it was good to be done and get back in the car, just saying.

Keep an eye out for the pre-blast details on the unique Gridiron on Saturday.  Double dippers, come and join us and then support the marathon runners!

God is good all of the time! Attila

  • For Those About to Rock………………..

7 cold weather warriors ignored the 20 degree temperature for the latest 45 minutes of madness known as The Forge. Tobit was the hero that we all need, rocking the shorts. Lots of mustache mumble chatter to kick things off. Apparently, several members of our brethren have been mistakenly identified as pedophiles or old west characters. That’s messed up!

Today’s Q was not inspired by a bible verse – but rather that snarled, cartoonish face of Raider’s coach Jon “Chucky” Gruden, saying “You gotta pound that rock!” It is football season, after all.

Pax all grabbed a rock out of the Chaplain mobile and moseyed down to the amphitheater.

Warm Up: Don Quixotes, Cherry Pickers, Arm Circles, Alabama Prom Dates, Wilson’s Wife, Plank Stretches.

    COP #1

    Partner up:
Round 1: Partner One does box jumps to the top of the amphitheater, 30 monkey humpers, run down the stairs. Partner Two does Merkins of choice.

Round 2: Partner One – box jumps followed by 30 ball dippers, return. Partner Two – chicken peckers.

Round 3 – Partner One – box jumps followed by 30 squats, return. Partner Two – flutter kicks.

Fresh Prince went to grab a rock.
Other PAX circled up for Failure to Launch with 5 second countdown between jumps. Completed 3 circles.

Mosey to the soccer field for COP #2

    Partner Up –

Rd. 1 – Partner One runs the length of the soccer field (with rock), side shuffle across, Bernie Sanders back, side shuffle to home. Partner two completes rock overhead presses for the duration.

Rd. 2 – Partner One runs the length of the soccer field (with rock), side shuffle across, Bernie Sanders back, side shuffle to home. Partner two completes squats for the duration.

Rd. 3 – Partner One runs the length of the soccer field (with rock), side shuffle across, Bernie Sanders back, side shuffle to home. Partner two completes rock WWII sit ups for the duration.

Rd. 4 – Partner One runs the length of the soccer field (with rock), side shuffle across, Bernie Sanders back, side shuffle to home. Partner two completes rock tricep extensions for the duration.

Indigenous Peoples run around the school, with person in back doing 2 burpies, then running to the front

Stop at the curb circle and do a curb crawl, with person in back doing 2 burpies, then running to the front.

    COP 3

From the base of Mt. Chaplain – complete 10 Merkins at each parking lot (DTH’s suggestion), 50 calf raises at the summit, 50 rock LBC’s at the base. Mosey back to the flag.

    Counterama, Namerama,

    Announcements:
    discussed the mustache challenge
Merkin Challenge next week at the Forge – shooting for 900. May be an alternative workout for those who are interest.

P Trap took us out in prayer.

  • Beware of black ice

4 fools saw the 24 degree forecast and said why not, to post at 5 am. With the all PAX SOP we got moving:

COP: SSH, Don Qs, Merkins, Helicopters, Russian Soldiers, Scorpion Kicks (Kubotas call), and LBCs.

Kubota Q: Run the Grassy triangle with 10 Merkins at each corner. Backwards run the long section. Repeato 3 xs (?). Then 3 rounds of 20 PLTs.

Mosey over to RRCB lot. Wheelbarrow up & down lot.

EF Hutton Q: Dora 123 of HRMs, Mtn Climbers, & LBCs.

Handshake Q: 4 Corners (escalating) of 15 HRMs, 25 WWIIs, 35 Jump squats, & 45 SSHs. Honeydo Q with 87 seconds left – back to flag for 6 inches (Hooooolllllddddd it!) YHC took us out.

NMS – Cold temps but beautiful morning with full moon and dry ground. Only a handful of icy spots in the parking lot. Best sight at 5 am is 8 bare knees in the gloom. 3 of the PAX were sporting winter beards (kubota just barely) so faces were warm.

This new AO is headlamp recommended but not required. Wasn’t needed this morning as we did not tackle south ridge hill. EF Hutton was a gentleman and turned his lamp off before he started knocking out his PLTs. Any view seen during the PLTs need to remember the Seinfeld quote “There was shrinkage”

Day 2 of YHC getting handed the Hot Potato at the last second and getting stuck with the BB.

Handshake hit us up with 60 HRMs not 5 minutes after us doing 100 HRMs during the Dora. Total Merkin count for the morning was about 200. Week 3 of this experiment makes this “Kubota’s Sanity Check” workout a success.

  • “Can’t you hear me knockin’…”

    “Can’t you hear me knockin’…”

Five gloom warriors – some in shorts – braved the arctic blast for a Source of Truthiness beatdown. Here’s how it went:

    COP: Mosey to the parking lot, DQ x 10, SSH x 20, Moroccan Nightclubs x 30, Cherry Pickers x 19, Freddie Mercuries x 20

Thang 1: IP run to the track for Catch Me if You Can – partner up and PAX 1 does 5 merkins while PAX 2 goes Bernie Sanders, flapjack until one track lap completed.

Thang 2: Muster on the goal line of the football field, bear crawl to the 25 yard line and do 25 WWIIs; bear crawl to the 50 yard line and do 25 WWIIs + 25 squats; on to the 75 yard line and add 25 LBCs; finish at the far goal line with 25 WWIIs + 25 squats + 25 LBCs + 25 merkins.

Thang 3: Mosey to the track building entrance for Jacob’s Ladder. Run up the hill + 1 burpee and run down. Back up the hill + 2 burpees etc. to 7 burpees. This really sucked.

Thang 4: Mosey to the side entrance of the school building for a Dora-ish happy ending. Partner up and PAX 1 runs to mechanical room door (scaring the bejesus out of the school maintenance crew in the process) and back, while PAX 2 busts out merkins x 100, flutter kicks x 200, squats x 300; flapjack — called for time. Mosey to the flag for –

COT: Numberama, nameorama and YHC took us out.

NMMS: Not gonna lie, that was cold AF. Almost would rather stay fat …

  • Keeping up with the Joneses, wait, I mean Marco Polo

4 men came out for the weekly morning run. No Idea and Mud Face split off and did their thing around the school. Marco Polo and Trout went out for a 4 mile run. Went over the bridge into Rutland, stopped by Bojangles for a chicken biscuit, then ran through the neighborhoods, look at the picture below for more details of route…coming back over the bridge Marco Polo told Trout we only had .25 miles to get 5 miles, I didnt questions his watch but I really think we had more in the range of .75 but whose counting. Finishing up with 5 miles and will not be able to walk right the rest of the week….
