  • Daylight Savings is Next Week

At 0700, there was only one car in the parking lot. The only thing better for YHC is zero cars in the parking lot. Cars are no good, but YHC did miss the PAX. There were no early risers, early posters, Saabs, or LIFOs.

It was 70 and … foggy. We took the bridge to the service road, took a loop around Belle Isle, then returned on the service road. Offshore took a spill. YHC managed to keep from laughing, though it was hilarious.

  • Ask & You Shall Receive

Nine noble warriors convened at the Gridiron to start their Saturday with a solid beatdown.  YHC attempted not to disappoint with some familiar favorites.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP

      • 15 Russian soldiers
      • 15 DQ
      • 15 helicopters
      • 20 merkins
      • 10 2x Suzanne Somers, each leg
      • 40 LBC
    • Burpee march – 15 burpees down the parking lot, with 25 WWII sit-ups, 25 2x flutter kicks and 25 APD; rinse and repeat for a total of 75 burpees and 125 WWII sit-ups, 2x flutter kicks and APDs
    • Mosey to the pickle ball courts
      • 5 shuttle runs
      • 7 reps of 3-man jerkins, rinse and repeat 3x
      • 5 shuttle runs
      • Partner wheelbarrows with 10 derkins at end, rinse and repeat 3x for each man
    • Mosey to the parking lot for some Mary – 20 2x American hammers and 20 FM
    • COT with YHC taking us out

Welcome home McFly!  Awesome to have you at Gridiron, and grateful for your service to our country.

During our time on the pickle ball courts, the PAX was monitored by an employee of Henrico parks.  After a set of shuttle runs, he introduced himself and offered to get us whatever equipment we might want for the AO.  JACKPOT!   If all works out, the PAX will have its pull-up bars and a jerkin gym.  Gridiron is already a top-notch AO, and it is only going to get better.

Great to lead this PAX this morning.  God is good all of the time!

  • “Even if he shows, he isn’t getting this Q back!”

Today’s Dog Pile turned out to be a hot potato. Upgrade no showed (hope everything is ok!). YHC feels for him and can’t be hard on him as YHC has done the same. However, you will never live it down……..I promise that.

In order to know what we did, you had to post! Swirly started us and it ended with Wilson. YHC blacked out at some point either during the double triple or the dirty dogs. It was brutal and had a VQ in the mix. Well done men!

  • Is this Monday or Friday

9 almost able bodies showed up to what was supposed to be a boot camp at Twin Team but ended up more like a Monday morning River Run.

Here is somewhat, how it went down.

Short Mossey down past ball fields stop in front of stadium

    Man Killers

Various exercises stopping at each light pole from stadium to opposite end of JRHS back parking lot

Find a 4X4 post that suites your fancy and do 20 Incline Merkins

Mosey to the back playground for a triple check

Partner 1 run the perimeter, partner 2 use the V of the swing set to do pull ups, partner 3 dips after first round audible was called and pull ups where changed to incline or decline merkins (your choice). Loose Goose chose to go Rogue and get in some Jerkins

Long Mosey back to flag stopping twice for various exercises and let the 6 catch their breath

End with a Merkin ring of fire

    Back to the flag

Numbers/names Mouse Trap took us out

    NMS:

What usually happens when YHC gets the Q and doesn’t really prepare or write out a binki – We Run and run and run, so today we Ran

Thanks to all the guys for breaking out the headlamps and giving the park playground a shot. YHC was not going to take us there because he didn’t figure everyone would have light but you guys crushed it by proving him wrong. If anyone was wondering what that big bright light was that cast a shadow over the entire East coast between 5:30 and 6:15 this morning, it wasn’t an early sunrise or the first sign of the Apocalypse. It was Gumbo with his head lamp.

    NMS

One morning in the winter of 1996, YHC was preparing to drive through the blizzard to work. The neighbor’s 9 year old daughter stopped him long enough to have a short snowball fight. He drove to work, worked the day and returned home. When he got home he found out that the neighbor’s family had gotten hit by a car and that the daughter had died and the mother was in the hospital for injuries. YHC had not thought about this until the Creek moved to its new location and he saw that there was a playground there dedicated to this little girl, who had been a student there at the time of her death.

Strong work was done by all

Thank you gentlemen, it was an honor to lead

  • Halloween Jaunt

Cool air welcomed this group of 18. People arrived and left at all different times. The dominant mode of exercise was running, though a couple on bike.

Those that started at 5:30 did YHC’s Halloween route.

East on Grove, left on Blvd, right on Hanover. 4s turn right on Strawberry, 5s on Vine, and 6s on Laurel with all coming back on Floyd. When Floyd runs into Thompson, take a right and back to the SF on Grove.

Upchuck took us out. Keep Marv and his family in our thoughts.

Upchuck was full of movie reference this morning. One of them being a deep cut from Dances with Wolves, but YHC preferred to keep with Airplane references. There was slight discussion about dog psychology after COT.

    Time to Taper,

    Lockjaw

    NMS

Dedicated to U.S. Sgt. Zachary D. Tellier, 31, of Charlotte, NC (USA) a combat infantryman with the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Bragg. He died Sept. 29, 2007, of wounds sustained while on a ground patrol in Afghanistan.

The previous April, Tellier’s unit was conducting a mounted patrol when one of its vehicles drove over and detonated a bomb, which set the vehicle on fire, according to a statement from the 82nd Airborne.

Tellier pulled two paratroopers out of the vehicle to safety, suffering severe burns to his hands. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with valor for his actions.

After he was burned, Tellier jumped up in the turret to return fire, said Sgt. Michael Layton, a member of Tellier’s unit. A lieutenant made Tellier get out of the vehicle because of his injuries, Layton said.

“Zachary Tellier has to be the biggest hero I’ve ever known or heard of, not just because of what he did, but because of his personality,” Layton said. “He came in the Army because he wanted to be around soldiers and serve his country, and he paid the ultimate sacrifice.”

Tellier is survived by his wife, Sara Tellier of Atlanta, Ga.; his father, David W. Tellier of Groton, Mass.; and his mother, Pamela Rodriguez, of Falmouth, Mass.

    Again strong work was done

  • Wedding Prep for P-Trap

    Wedding Prep for P-Trap

15 fixtures of F3 RVA fought off the warm fartsack to send off one our own as he embarks on his next chapter in life: Marriage.

While YHC is not as well versed in all facets of that game, YHC felt a heavy mix of running, core work, and leg exercises should help young P-Trap develop some of those needed old man RESPECT strengths and skills. While TYA debated over the time accuracy of YHC’s fitbit, the clock struck 530 and it was time to boogie.

  • A 45 Minute stroll around Godwin

3 PAX, all in their early 40s, came out to temps in the low 40s to the Circus. We did:

COP: SSH, Helicopters, IWs, Merkins, Flutterkicks. Grab bell then to back of school: 2 sets of 25 Donkey Kicks, bear crawl road then 40 swings. Mosey to soccer field – 2 Sets of Lawnmowers – 20 each arm. Over to Parking Lot of Shredded Gloves – 10 Lunges then 10 Merkin Rows across the lot. Then 3 rounds of Pullovers & Sit & Presses.

Find some dry grass – Boat & Canoe. Back up and to front of school – Run front & back then exercise of: Overhead Presses, Halos, & around world. Run between each exercise. Then back to normal area to finish with 2 min of Mary of: Freddy Mercurys, LBCs. YHC took us out.

NMS – YHC set double alarms to ensure he woke up for this Q. (Un)Luckily my dog woke me up at 4:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep. Atilla was also sleep deprived having watched the entire Nats game. With a small pax of 3, who are not the normal “Respect” aged CM’ers, we set off to cover a lot of ground.

The correctly named Lot of Shredded Gloves next to the track was discovered to be paved with broken glass, not asphalt. Good thing to know from now on.
