  • Dirty Dozen in The Boat

Twelve studs rolled up to Batteau today for YHC’s VQ. The gloom was deep, the soup was thick, and after welcoming a fellow traveler from South of the Border – Stumpjumper (Charlotte) – here’s how it went:

COP: IC Don Quixotes, Imperial Walkers, Russian Soldiers, Freddie Mercuries, Mountain Climbers

    THE THANG:

Mosey to the sledding hill for 11s: Hand Release Merkins + WWIIs

Mosey to a line of six trees and pardner up. Pardner A bear crawls to first tree, runs back; Pardner B does ABCs AMRAP, then switch so Pardner B goes a bear crawlin while Pardner A works on his penmanship. Travellin mode to trees 1-3 was the crawling bears, trees 4-6 was Bernie Sanders. The PAX was feelin the Bern, and mumble chatter mentioned a “bonus tree,” so a backpeddlin we went, with a taste of Al Gore for the six.

Mosey to the tennis courts for some four corners: 25 Carolina Dry Docks, 50 squats, 75 SSHs, 100 LBCs with crabwalks in between.

Mosey to some picnic tables for 5 incline merkins on the table + 5 dips on the bench + 5 merkins of choice on the ground. Set of three then repeato to double your pleasure. Sippy Cup was observed to be doing some sort of Bruce Lee merkin variant with one hand and one foot in the air; nunchucks likely tucked in the weight vest.

Serpentine mosey up and down the sledding hill then back to the flag for some Mary: Heels to Heaven, Hi/Lo Flutter Kicks, Freddie Mercuries and then – of course – The Burpee. 10 OYO.

Numberama, nameorama, and YHC took us out.

    — Hump Day Happy Hour this Wednesday at 6:00; park at Palani Drive. Kubota has the deets.

    — Puppy Pile this Saturday; bring your 2.0s!

Thanks to the PAX for putting out today and supporting the VQ!

    PreBlast – Roller Coaster/HDHH – 7/24/19 6pm!

The Wednesday July 24th Roller Coaster hill run will launch from the parking lot behind Palani Drive (401 Libbie Avenue). We will meet in the parking lot and have a hard start at 6PM. We will then run up and down some nearby hills and then retreat back to Palani Drive for HDHH! If you cannot make the run, please join us at the restaurant. Runners should be back by 6:45PM or so. There is outdoor seating at Palani Drive, which will be key for those that do not smell the best after a run. This will be good training for BRR 2019 (the running part and the beer drinking part afterwards.) Also, you can check off TWO SUMMER TOUR ITEMS from your SUMMER TOUR list, one of which is EXTRA CREDIT! See ya there!

  • HoeDown Humidity

A fine 9 fought off the fartsack for YHC’s return Q at HoeDown on a morning with air so thick you could cut it with a knife. The dog days of Summer mornings warrant a beatdown full of ground and pound. Here’s how it looked:

Brief announcements of Ghost Flag tomorrow at Heartbreak Ridge. Someone advise Bodos on where that AO is.

YHC needed more than just coffee to wake up this morning Appreciate the PAX effort and drive this am, it makes rough(er) morning easier to clock in.

Don’t flop at the week’s start. Get after it this week. Have a great one fellas!

  • Out before the heat

7 men and a pup found some new routes for Sunday morning OTB before the heat of the day hit. 4 went around through Charter Colony, JTCC and Midlo mines for 6 miles while the other 3 hit some hills for a little less. New hill Manders was found and will be a new staple for training. Have a great Sunday

  • Sunday muggy Sunday

Six humidity warriors hit the trails this morning. TYA and Saab went early. Never saw Saab but TYA had. There were fifty new trail runners out for their first go at the circuit this morning all wearing red shirts. Lots of late summer ?s as well. Good work out there this morning, men. YHC took us out

Numberama, Namearama Announcements and special request from  Doozy, he recently lost his job and he asked for our  help with  any job opportunities that might be available in HVAC sales.

Atilla took the group out and added a special prayer request for Doozy and his family

  • BoyZ – Follow the Rules, it’s a no throw zone.

8 tarmac warriors beat the heat and humidity at the Gridiron with coupons and water balloons in hand.

    COP warm ups with

    29 SSH

    29 DQ
10 Inch worm to Push up

29 Helicopters forward / reverse 29 small arm circles
    29 Air Squat
    29 Flutter kicks29 LBC 29 APD’s

Mosey over to Clown truck and pick up your favorite paver Coupon and then over pavilion by the Pickle-ball court

29 touch merkins run to tree 29 touch merkins run back

29 Goblet squats karoke to tree 29 Goblet squats karoke back

29 kettle bell swings run to tree 29 kettle bell squats run back

29 lateral lunges r & l lunge to tree 29 lateral lunge r&l lunge back

29 halos run to tree 29 halos run back

29 high pulls run to tree 29 high pulls run back

Line up on tarmac trail 10’ foot apart – Throw paver as far as you can, bear crawl to your paver, retrieve paver wait for pax and then throw paver again. Repeat until bear crawls reach the barn. Reverse direction and repeat back to tarmac. Tator and Johnsonville made the last throw a “closest to the edge of the tarmac”. Tater must have been practicing corn hole skills by landing the paver short side up inches from the edge.  Time was starting to be a factor so we quickly completed two rounds of 29 dips under the pavilion.

Mosey back to parking lot for a quick triple check:

    Run around the parking lot
    Wall sits with block paver
    Sit and presses with paver

    Mosey over to Clown truck
YHC set up a large rectangle using the coupons and mark out a no thow zone using the area between four parking spaces.  He then asked the PAX to gather around the back of Hoop’s  Honda Rigeline for a cold water out of Whitedeers cooler.  Johnsonville sucked a 16 oz of ice cold water down faster than ….  Funny, he was giving Cheeta so much crap for bringing his water bottle when the clown truck picked them up this morning. JV shouted… “Who needs water”.

The delicious cold water was good but not as good as the surprise under the secret compartment under the Ridgeline bed. 120 balloons filled with cool refreshing H2O. Yes the PAX played Water Ballon Dodgeball.  It plays like american dodgeball, only difference is you have two buckets full of balloons In the center. The no throw zone was behind each of the coupons. Well, the no throw zone quickly turned into a slug and crouch fest.

It was great seeing a bunch of growth men acting like a bunch of kids getting off of the school bus on the last day of school. Atilla being the biggest kid, picking up both containers  full of water dowsing Johnsonville like it was a cooler full of Gatorade after a UVA football win. He then tried drenching YHC but the deer in White deer won.

COT by Atilla and we proceeded to the big E for Coffeeteria

Great work Boyz in the heat and humidity of Summer !

  • Slow and Low, That is the Tempo

The hottest day of the year so far, the task as Q for the day was to figure out how to give these fine gentlemen the workout they expect and deserve, while making sure nobody needs medical attention afterwards. I say that as a slight joke, but it’s a true concern in my brain. So with that in mind, we set forth in the heat and humidity to see what we can make of this beautiful morning.

    COP

Warnings of the day and greetings to our FNG were given. Also, invitations to any that would like to test their cadence calling in a semi-safe environment as they prepare for VQ’s, or the international count to three competition (ICTTC). Kryptonite was a gamer, and so was Emoji. Other than that, same old warmup drills.

    Test To Standard:

Lab Rat read a book that said a fit person should be able to do 12 pullups, 50 merkins, 50 squats, and hold plank for 2 minutes….all with good form. Lab Rat is 1/4 fit. Others discovered their strengths and weaknesses as well. The lesson here (for me) is that we do a lot of reps poorly, and I personally could probably benefit from fewer reps done with good form. Also, pullups are hard.

    BEAST

    -merkins

    -LBC’s

    -Monkey Humpers

    -Carolina Dry Docks

    -burpees and/or flutter kicks

I hope that everyone appreciated how hard it is to be standing around and taking breaks today. Having over 30 guys staring at you waiting for the next thing is nerve wracking. If you are a front runner guy, I appreciate your patience. I especially appreciate the guys that minded the six this morning. Sometimes, it’s not about you (thanks, Inky). It’s about the guy who is struggling, or the guy that’s frustrated. That was seen in spades this morning, and it made my heart happy. I know this group prides itself on going hard, but as the Q, I saw fit to make sure we all could make it back to (EF Hutton’s) flag safe and enjoy a cup of coffee after.

No apologies today….except for the sign-off:

    Lab Rat apologizes…

  • Spider Run Saturday Edition

Five posted at 0400 to get in some miles before the thing that happens before the thing.  Perfectly sane thing to do.

    This THING

Mosey from Dogpile past Soupie Poopie Lake (See WDog this week) around Maymont, hit the streets for about 1.5 miles or so until reaching the mouth of the trails above Texas Beach.  Continue on Northbank Trail to downtown Richmond.  Circle Brown’s Island, consider stealing a case of Guinness, and back to the Belle Isle parking lot.  Make a quick Gumbo-esque wrong turn heading back out to Northbank, reverse a few steps, and mosey back to the Pumphouse lot via the new and improved trail.  Loop around Dogpile past the newly named Bermuda Triangle and back to the shovel flag.  Rough estimate of mileage is no less than 7.5.

    Numberama, Nameorama, COT

    MOLESKIN

As YHC stepped out of the front door at 3:15 this morning, the nextdoor neighbor did the same.  There was a moment of pause with both parties pondering the question, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?  A quick head nod and off to the AO.  Was hot, was humid, was gloomy, was magnificent.  As Flatline likes to say, only those who post understand.  Offshore and YHC each consumed a fair share of spiderwebs along the trail.  There was a sweaty dude hanging out on the edge of Hollywood Cemetery as the PAX passed.  Hopefully he was out for a night mosey as well, but there is a chance he was a grave robber digging up bodies.  Guess that mystery will go unsolved, but he scared the bejeezus out of YHC when he spoke.
