  • Last Saturday in May: June 1st

Eight early risers (including one double dipper) and their dads rolled into Puppy Pile with visions of post workout bacon. But first they had to earn it.

Triple Check: 2.0 does donkey kicks on stage while dads run to the top of the stairs and back. 2.0s run up the number of steps that correspond with their age while dads do donkey kicks.

Husky Q: Mosey to Carillon Field. Wheelbarrows with 2.0s on the ground. Stop and do 10 Boo Ya Merkins. Repeat to the middle of the field. Switch to partner carry halfway.

Tunnel of Love. Dads hold elbow plank while kids craw through. Dads hold regular plank while dads crawl through.

Tidwell Q: Touch-A-Tree Shuttle Run. Dad’s perform flutter kicks while 2.0s run to three different trees. Run back to dad after each tree. Reverse and repeat.

Mosey to the end of the field. Kids run. Dad’s do 10 Merkins then run backwards in a catch me if you can experiment gone awry. Audible half way through. Dad’s turned and ran to catch their kids. 10 squats when caught, then repeat to the end of the field.

Back to amphitheater. Kids box jump up each step while dad offers back-up.

Karaoke from gravel road in between amphitheater and shovel flag to dog park. Say hi to the puppy who had escaped, then run back to the flag.

    Vinny took us out.

Announcements: Shakedown is shaving his head for a good reason, not just some weird Shakedown thing. Summer Tour is on. Sign up if that’s your thing. Get a patch for your jean jacket, if that’s your thing.

NMS: Marv announced Friday morning that he had a baseball game this morning at 8:30, so YHC agreed to lead a hot potato. These workouts never disappoint. The level of fun is just different. It’s so great to see the 2.0s being active and having a great time. And the workouts are no joke. T-Claps to Willie and Flatty for double dipping today. Solid!

This week senseless acts of violence against struck in our background and in our home state. Being out with our 2.0s carried special meaning today. A reminder that every minute counts. I for one am glad I got to spend this morning with Shark Bait, and each of you.

    Welcome Bacon, Merlin and Pong.

    Have a great weekend folks.

Ultimate Frisbee with Labrat Tuesday at Heartbreak

    NMS:

Mumble Chatter was high this morning as the cooler air gave a little more pep in the step to the PAX. YHC hearing that most of the group knew a ground and pound was coming, added a little more incentive to make sure we covered some ground this morning. But YHC understands, runner he is not, but the Q-dreneline is real! Welcome to FNG Brady Bunch!! For those that were not with us this morning, Brady Brunch and his wife are proud parents of the first ever sextuplets born in VA, thats right 6 kids born all 2 or 3 minutes apart from each other, that my friend is awesome!! Welcome to the PAX! Shout out to Swirly and Hardywood for helping with planks and in between exercise, much appreciated. Rosie mentioned that we need to bring Catch Me if you Can to Dogpile, which is normally done on the track, apologies for some confusion but Rosie an YHC have already found a solution and it will return to Dogpile again! Lastly, not sure who mentioned they should be called Crop Circles, or if its been mentioned in the past, but thats what they will be called from now on in YHC’s head!

Gentlemen, its an honor and a privilege to be a part of such an amazing group! The influence you all have on not just YHC, but everyone of us who do this together is unbelievable. Go out today, love each other and be a positive beacon of light for our families, friends, and our great community!

  • Getting by with a little help from my friends

An odd 9 including one traveler descended upon The Creek to cap off the work week. Mosey halfway around the church to COP, SSH, Imperial walkers/hillbillies, Freddie Mercuries, merkins.

Mosey to field for wheelbarrow fun–partner up, wheelbarrow half of half of the field (had to be there), 20 LBC’s, switch partners, same distance, 20 mountain climbers, repeat, HRM’s, wheelbarrow to end of field, 20 heels to heaven, sprint back to start, 20 booyah merkins.

Mosey to pavilion for lazy Dora, one partner holds low plank while the other works on 100 2-count American hammers, 200 high knees, and 300 shoulder taps, switching off as needed.

Mosey to tower, lunge to first island, 20 jump squats, lunge to basketball goals, 40 reverse crunches, run back to tower, hold superman for 60 seconds. Do four corners, running in between, perform 10 merkins, 20 flutter kicks, 30 squats and 40 SSH. Mosey to flag for boat/canoes led by Chewy.

Numberama, namerama, YHC led us out.

    NMS

YHC did not feel well last night, chalked it up to being tired, didn’t feel well this morning, chalked it up to just waking up, and 15 minutes into the workout realized YHC was not well, probably having caught one of the bugs his 2.0’s had brought home recently. The PAX helped tremendously this morning, as only the first 2 parts were planned, and the rest made up on the fly with lots of help. Another example of how great F3 is, we always help each other out in our struggles–no matter how minor, we pick each other up every single time. It was great to see Upchuck this morning, and his teaming up with Emoji resulted in the first exercise being completed in record time. Chewy served as his own team during the lazy Dora, and still only finished a few seconds behind the rest of the PAX. Great effort!

Announcements: summer tour has started, let’s all try to visit at least a couple of new AO’s, and Puppy Pile is tomorrow after Dogpile. Also, Upchuck provided a great reminder that Breaking Bread has spots open for the summer, and is a wonderful experience.

As usual, I have No Idea what I’m doing.

  • Fading memories

A pair of us posted for the May 20th Punisher – yes you were there EF Hutton. Mosey into the grass for startup with SSHs, IWs, DQs, Helicopters, and Arm Circles. Head around the corner to the Bus Loop lane for EMOMs #1 and #2 (8 minutes each), including Decline Carolina Dry Docks and Squats, among others. Sure, composing the backblast closer to the event would help detail recall.

Shift to the grass at the South end of the loop for a Dora involving Shoulder Taps, Flutter Kicks, and APDs. Move back to the pavement / sidewalk for one more EMOM (10 minutes). Mosey back around the school for the COT and YHC took us out.

  • Thirteen, again

Nine posted at GridIron thirteen days ago and, following a parking lot warmup with some of the usual, we undertook the Thirteen Acres Baker’s Dozen – involving thirteen exercises starting with 13 reps for the first exercise and 7 of the remaining 12.

For round 2, the 13 reps shifted to the second exercise and we completed 7 of the other exercises. Continue for 13 rounds. The basic format was four rounds of chest, leg, and ab exercises with an SSH 13. Exercises ranged from standard Merkins to Curtsys to Flutter Kicks. Breaking from the tradition of ground-and-pound in parking lots, we knocked all of this out from the playground mulch.

Finished with plank circle with half of us holding plank while the others moseyed to pick up trash. Alternated this a couple of times. Finished with COT and followed with coffee and fellowship.

  • The Anvil: Day 1

19 F3 Warriors broke themselves upon The Anvil, baptizing it with their sweat, and came out stronger and tougher.

Mudface created this AO, and led the first day. Mosey from the parking lot to the playground blacktop for COP: SSH, DQ, LBC’s and Merkins. Mosey to the field by the track for Belching: PAX begins on their bellies, when the Q yells “GO” the PAX runs 10 strides, drops and performs 10 HRM’s. PAX then low crawl back or forward to line up with the Q until a straight line is achieved. Repeat until the PAX reaches the end of the field. Run up the hill (foreshadowing) until reaching the back corner of the AO, than cross to opposite back corner, stopping to touch every tree and perform 10 single count crab cakes each time.

Run down hill to back of school to start Burp Back Mountain: partner up, one partner does Bernie Sanders back up the hill while his compatriot does burpees, switch out when he returns, continue until 100 burpees are completed.

Wall tunnel time: PAX line up in people’s chair against wall, starting at far end each PAX bear crawls through the tunnel, repeat again with PAX pressing only shoulders against the wall.

Mosey to rock pit by original parking lot, grab a rock and do boat/canoe’s to Chewy’s count. Mosey back to flags, numberama, namerama, Chewy took us out.

    NMS

What a great showing to open The Anvil. This AO is huge, and Mudface showed the PAX what could be done, and how many possibilities there are to sharpen ourselves. YHC counted 6 different playgrounds, along with a track, and inside the courtyard there are more benches, etc. The mumblechatter started right away, as some PAX thought the Q took some liberties with his cadence during arm circles, but hey, he’s the Q, he leads his way. Mudface had fun getting the PAX to false start during Belching, and the PAX responded by getting very creative with how many strides made up ’10.’ This and running to each tree was a good warmup to the Burp Back Mountain, and YHC’s legs were toast after running the hill and burpees.

The wall work served as a bit of a rest and mumblechatter centered on the size of the crawlers and how much ‘natural gas’ could Rounders unleash on you from that vantage point. It was great to have visitors help Davillians break in our new AO, thanks for coming Offshore, EF Hutton, Byproduct and Scrum. Hopefully our flags and numbers were noticed by many driving by and we’ll start to get members from the 111. Great job of Q’ing by Mudface!

Announcement: Puppy Pile this Saturday after Dogpile.

As usual, both Mudface and YHC have No Idea what we’re doing.

  • Caber Toss Anyone?

A dozen of Richmond’s finest lumberjacks assembled at The Forge for an inaugural DTH caberama. With a 70 degree sunrise making mumblechatter merry, the PAX partnered up, collected their cabers from YHC’s truck, and at 05:30 on 05/30 a team of steely-eyed men was seen carrying heavy logs into the distance…

    The THANG:

    Mosey to COP #1:

    • Partners shoulder carry cabers down to the culdesac, stopping at each light post for x3 overhead press
    • Circle up for SSH x20 IC
    • Incline Merkins on cabers, x10 IC
    • DQ’s x10 IC
    • Derkins with feet on cabers, x20 IC
    • LBC’s x20 IC
    • Rapid Alternating Feet on Cabers x20 IC

    Mosey to COP #2:

    • NEW Partners carry cabers back up Love Hill, stopping at each light post to complete x3 caber curls
    • Triple Check at the grassy knoll:
    • Two men at bottom squat pressing standing caber back and forth, while 3rd man bear crawls up the hill and runs back down

    Mosey to COP #3:

    • NEW Partners shoulder carry cabers around school to soccer field
    • Teams space well out on sideline
    • Caber Toss Suicides: cross the field and back by tossing caber as far as possible (either as a team or individual tosses) running back together to touch baseline between throws
    • ABC’s for the Six

    Mosey Back to Flag:

    • NEW partner/caber carry back to the ST
    • Stow cabers in YHC’s truck
    • Circle up for hands-up low flutters x30 IC

    COT:

    • Counterama #12
    • Namerama
    • Announcerama (see Comments)
    • YHC took us out in Prayer

    NMS:

    • Beautiful morning to add a little CSAUP to the Forge routine. YHC has a LOT of oak trees at the house, so there has been a steady accumulation of 5-6 foot logs over the last couple months, with a Caberama in mind for a future Q. Couldn’t have asked for a better group of men to handle my wood… and special kudos to Wojo & Fire Marshal for their Caber Tossing competence.
  • Who is H?

The Q sheet said H, was this some sort of Conspiracy thing? Did Honeydo forget how to spell his name? Was Helix or Hardywood making the trek to Timberwolf? None of that, simply Gumbo thinking about putting in Hot Potato and then possibly falling asleep at his keyboard before finishing. This was all worked out with a little EC before hand with Honeymoon agreeing that he would take the lead and would pass it off so he didn’t have to write the backblast. 14 strong and all SOJ, no summer tourists today with the likely hot destination of a new AO in DaVille.

    THANG

Honeymoon takes the Q and the majority of the PAX noticed that he was warmed up moving quickly after the EC. Mosey to the bus loop for a brief warmup of SSH and DQ. Honeymoon declares that’s enough and the mosey around the back of the school begins. Mouse Trap finds the PAX and the Q, being in a giving mood, drops 3 burpees OYO for the LIFO. No grace given for the drive from Powhatan. Lap around the track with some mumblechatter about how good the field looks and how we should take advantage. No luck, led around to the path into the woods for the Horseshoe. After a little confusion on the numbers and exercises it was decided to go with 5 and the start and 10 at the end with a run up and down the hill into the woods between. Merkins, Merkins/Squats, Merkins/Squats/LBC. Al Gore and Plank for the 6. Repeato.

The PAX was then given a choice, repeato or pass the Q to Rosie. After a little deliberation and fear of what YHC might have in store the PAX decided that a change was in order (yes we saw you start on the repeato Lugnut). A slight running repreive on the track from YHC with a Form-hundred, see what I did there. 10 slow good form merkins, 10 split squats, 10 slow APDs. Slowsy 100 meters for 10 slow werkins, 10 CH squats, 10 slow Freddies. Slowsy around the bend of the track for 10 Tempo Merkins, 10 Monkey Humpers and 10 Plank Jacks. Sprint 100 yards – 5 Diamond merkins, 10 lunges IC, 10 slow flutters. Jog last 100 and complete the last 5 diamonds.

Pass to Lugnut who heads to the tennis courts for some burpicides. Round 1 run with increasing burpees at the baseline, Round 2, backward run out, Round 3 Karaoke. Close out at the flag with a quick howling monkey ring of fire.

    NMM

Great to have a big crowd at Timberwolf today. Tupop is crushing it a week in, and and early happy birthday to the double respecter. Aisle 5 is going with the Wilson attire schedule of long sleeves, apparently he does not sweat like YHC. Honeymoon seemed to be threatening to pull a Swirly and run the horseshoe the full 45 but the PAX wanted some variety and YHC offered some slower paced work. McRib and Aisle 5 have stepped back into the fold as SOJ regulars and we are all better for it. More respect than hate this morning. As Honeymoon reminded us school is ending so those family men that didn’t have time in the morning may have some now, a good time to reach out for the EH.

Excellent work today, thanks for letting me lead you around the track. Appreciate all of the opportunities that you are given.
