  • Show up early and you get rained on

5 PAX, 3 regulars and two out of town guests, gathered right after the freak rainstorm for a little Hot Potato Q.

Swirly led first and took us through the COP. 10x Helicopters, 10x DQ, 20x LBCs, 10x Flutter kicks, 10x Merkins, 20x SSH.

Then he took us down to the bowl for 3 rounds of: 20 dips, 10 Derkins and running up the hil and back.

He then took us to the tennis court baseline: Lunge across, 10x donkey kicks on the fence Lunge back. Repeat with Russian Soliders, and Bear Crawls.

Finally we headed to picnic tables for 3x: 15x incline merkins and 10x WWIIs with feet on picnic bench.

Sippy then led a new leg burning exercise, the Slinky. Step up onto picnic bench, step down, then reverse lunge with same leg, then one ball dipper (to switch placement of legs). Repeat with opposite leg. 3 x 60 seconds with a mosey around the stone house to rest after each set.

Then some kickboxing. 20 sec x 2 of jab-jab-cross followed by
20 sec x 2 of jab-uppercut-uppercut. Mosey around the stone house followed by 1 minute elbow plank.

Posh led us then to the stone steps for 3 rounds of 10x burpees on the top and 20 dips at the bottom. Mosey back to the flag for a ring of fire dealers choice for Merkins.

Moleskin. Some of the PAX were surprised by a freak rainstorm that hit on the jog over, but the actual workout turned out to be a beautiful spring morning. It’s really nice to be in the light for the last 1/2 of the workout. We enjoyed having Manwich and Kapow join us today. Manwich drives over an hour each way to get to an F3 workout and hopes to start a new location in his hometown of Holden Beach very soon. It struck me how fortunate we are to be able to jog or drive only short distances to many of the AOs in F3 Richmond.

  • Early Bird Gets The Worm

4 Davillians were able to avoid the Easter hangover and to get their week started off with some miles

2 under weight got out early and did their normal route the school grounds and Honey Meadows for a total of just over a 5k

Scrum and YHC headed out around the cross country trails, up to the Honey Meadow Estates, through the trails of the neighborhood, then headed back for 4.35 miles

As always it was Sunny and 70

    SPIT ON THAT!!

  • No GoT fans

5 of the usual suspects arrived in the gloom with a little drizzle to find no one with a plan on where to go and only one Game of Thrones fan looking for someone to talk to. Bullseye suggested the Twin Team to Brigstock out 23 back 22 route and off we went. Mileage varied but all made it back on time, the Twin Team start and finish makes the negative split much easier than most.

YHC can’t confirm but Orange Crush was so ready to discuss and disappointed no one watched Game of Thrones that I expect he gave Gumbo an entire synopsis of the episode from last night. Lugnut relied on Bullseye for the turnaround time and clocked some of his fastest miles after getting up Twin Team. Everything else seems flat after that start.

Vinny has a field day planned for May 11 – SOJ will be looking for a strong posting. Team captain Gumbo is looking into uniform options, tank tops and jorts preferred.

Ghost Flag at The Forge Thursday 4/25. DTH has the Q

  • We Could Use an Umbrella

8 sponges, including 1 FNG, flopped out of The Fartsack and into Hoedown for a sunny and 70 Monday morning. The motorcyclists hauling through Westham tell the story (loudly) like this…

Mosey to the Third Church parking lot for the COP

    Invisible Jumpropes x22
    Don Quixote x10
    Imperial Walkers x15
    Side-straddle Hops x20
    Scorpion Kicks x10
    Hand-Release Mercans x10
    Little, Baby Crunches x20

    Mosey to the Horseshoe

Garbage Plate suggested PLTs…so the PAX did 20 PLTs at each of the arrows on the Horseshoe…6 arrows = 120 PLTs each

Mosey to the Soccer Field for Lake Florida

YHC travels a bunch (or had you not heard)…to Florida. YHC believes F3RVA could use more AOs with man-made lakes, massive humidity, and the possibility of carnivorous reptilian observers…for today, the field at Tuckahoe would have to suffice. The PAX was told to mosey around the outside of the field, stopping at six points around the field, to perform the following exercises:
    20 squats
    20 hello dollies
    20 flutter kicks (4 count)
    20 hand-release mercans
    20 reverse crunches
    20 dips
Each PAX also composed and played a 5-second musical accompaniment on the playground drums. To YHC’s knowledge, Mr. Holland selected no PAX members for the All-County Chorus or any accompanying percussion activities.
    Do this 3 times.

Mosey to the Blacktop for a Quadruple Check

Partner 1: bear crawl up the hill to the tree
Partner 2: Balls to the Wall
    Partner 3: People’s Chair
Partner 4: World War II style sit-ups (Mr. Holland’s choice)

2 rounds only due to time restrictions

Mosey Back to the Flag for 2 minutes of Mary

    Rosalitas x20
    LBCs x20

Number-am-a, Name-a-ram-a, Vinny took us out

    Announcements:

Breaking Bread Sunday…please let YHC know if you would like to join
Field Day, May 11…see Vinny for details
Welcome Umbrella…Joel is a lawyer who helped recruit Vinny…and his favorite insurance coverage is umbrella.

    Announcements

Puppy Pile next weekend at 705a

NMS – This is Day 7 of YHC Q week. Its still amazing that I have been part of this org for just 2 years. Such great bonds in that short time.

April 22, 2019 is YHC 2 year anniversary, hence the week of Q and the 22 reps. I will be on a plane Monday, so Upchuck has Hoedown. Enjoy your Earth Day.

PAX that have been around more than 5 minutes, might have heard that YHC was in the Infantry and Combat Engineer at one point during formative years. Covering the last 50 meters (with 82mm mortars) or 100 meters (with 105mm) is the critical task for an employer with many critical tasks. Hence the THREE second buddy rush= I’m up, he sees me, I’m down. After the chaos of getting started, Bulkhead and I relearned that this is why we have team leaders and squad leaders to coordinate movement. Otherwise, men will do what men will do. Thanks again for working through it. It will be better next time. Hoo-AH

Also PAX might have heard that YHC attended Univ of Richmond hence the Spider Crawl. When you are looking forward to Bear Crawls to break it up, you know you found a good exercise. Props to DaVille (Opus?) for renaming the formerly awkwardly named 8 point creature Merkin. Spider Born and Spider Bred!

    Pipe Loop. Celebrates F3RVA.

10 Burpees. Why not? Get some.

    Thanks to Shakedown for documentary-ing.

Thanks to the PAX for working strong all week and for the opportunity to lead.

  • Predictable but Effective

The Gridiron conditions were ideal for a beatdown.  Nine able-bodied men of steel linked arms to grow stronger.  Here is how it went down:

    • COP
      • 25 SSH
      • 15 Russian soldiers
      • 15 IW
      • 10 DQ
      • 15 helicopters
      • 10 2x merkins
      • 20 Suzanne Somers, each leg
      • 25 2x LBC
    • Mosey to the jerkin gym for 4x 8 jerkins
    • Mosey to the grassy knoll for 10 minutes of burpees
    • 40 APDs OYO
    • Mosey to the pickle ball courts
      • Partner up for a wheelbarrow relay across the 4 courts and back
      • Bearicide with 15 WWII sit-ups at each check point (120 WWII sit-ups in total)
    • Mosey to the parking lot for a triple check with dips, flutter kicks and run the perimeter of the parking lot
    • Mosey to the bleachers for 30 bench kicks OYO
    • Chum Bucket led us through series of post workout stretches
    • COT with YHC taking us out and on to Einsteins for 2nd F

A little bit of mumble chatter from the PAX today.  No surprise White Deer was at the heart of it.  Byproduct poked at YHC for the predictable 10 minutes of burpees.  Just got to say, “hate me now, thank me later” for those.  Continued strong work for the PAX.

YHC hope and prayer is for the PAX for us all to enjoy our Easter celebration, remembering why Jesus died and celebrating that He has risen!

God is good all of the time!

  • Good Friday or Great Friday

10 really good guys came out this morning for a good friday beatdown.

    Here is what happened…

Names, Numbers, Announcements, YHC took us out

NMS — YHC wrote in the FB group about today being a good friday workout. Emoji responded that it would be a great friday workout. Made YHC smile! Thanks Emoji.
Emoji also said this morning before the workout that if Jesus could go through what he went through on Good Friday, we could withstand a few SSH. Agreed.
Three. Jonah. Three days in the depths of the whale. Triune God. Three tempations for the Christ. Three times denied by a friend. Three days in the depth of the tomb. Resurrection. Three times of affirmation of love for the denier.
Where are you on this holy day? A doubter? That’s ok. Jesus can work with that. A sinner? Um yeah, aren’t we all? A seeker? Keep searching. Wherever you are, Jesus meets you there. “While we were still sinners, Jesus came to give his life for us.” Good news for a good Friday.

  • Easter Egg Hunt

8 very curious men hopped out of bed on Good Friday and made it to Twin Team for an Easter Egg Hunt.  Much respect to Aggie who drove from Cville in the wee hours to introduce his Midlothian pal, Hawkeye (FNG), to F3RVA.

    COP:

Slow mosey 100 yards to the beginning of the bus loop for 10 SSHs, 10 Don Quixotes, and 10 Russian Soldiers.  Then, instructions were then given to perform 10 Merkins, 10 Jump Squats, and race around the bus loop, returning to the front of Bettie and hold Plank.

    The Thang (Easter Egg Hunt):

    Two teams were formed:

Team 1 – Rosie, Doozy, DK, and Aggie

Team 2 – Tobit, Hawkeye, Sugar Sock, and Bullesye

The following instructions were provided while the PAX held Plank.  Well, this is how they looked in my head.  It later became apparent that they weren’t verbalized so clearly.

    1. There were 8 stations in various locations within the standard AO footprint.
    2. Each team was provided a notecard with a hint about each of the 8 locations.
    3. Each station had a Ziploc bag under a soccer cone (to keep the wind from displacing the bag).
    4. Inside the bag was a notecard with exercises and 3 prizes.
    5. The prizes, which ranged in value, were a Peep (10 pts), a Robin Egg (5pts), and a Jelly Bean (1pt).
    6. Some stations were harder and contained more of the high-value prizes.
    7. The first team to arrive would take the highest value prize available and then perform the exercises.  This is where YHC may have been unclear.
    8. Each team could choose their own route and order to the stations.
    9. The objective was to collect as many prizes as possible (but preferably, just one from each station) and return to the Flag by 6:10.  The team with the most points would win.

The Hints / Stations and the exercises:

    • “Name of the AO” – This station was at the base of Twin Team.
      • 40 Merkins
      • 40 Jump Squats
      • 80 Mountain Climbers, 2 count
    • “Alaska” – A map of the USA is painted on the Bettie Weaver playground.
      • Tag all 4 of the basketball goals on the playground alternating Bear Crawl and Crawl Bear between each goal.
    • “The Murph” – On the playground where Honeymoon crushes us with the Murph
      • 20 pullups for each team member.  Assisted counts
    • “Swamp Entrance” – The JRHS football field is named the Swamp.
      • Run up the home team bleachers 10 times performing 15 dips between each run.
    • “JRHS Tennis” – Hope this one is obvious.
      • 4 corners (progressive / add on) around the inside of the tennis courts.
        • 10 HR Merkins
        • 20 Squats
        • 30 SSHs
        • 40 Mountain Climbers, 2 count
    • “High Above the Marching Band” – A two story platform at the edge of the parking lot where the marching band practices.
      • Run to the top of the platform 5 times each.
    • “JRHS” Fr. Circle” – The island in front of the high school main entrance.
      • 15 Walk-out Merkins
    • “JRHS Basketball (outdoors) – Obvious
      • 25 Jump Squats
      • 1 Suicide
      • Repeat 3x

Disclaimer – YHC, who was on Team 2, set the locations and knew the prize values but fully intended to allow Team 2 to find each cone without YHC’s help.

YHC would like to say that the well-planned workout ran smoothly.  However, it did not.  As Team 2 made its way Alaska, YHC noticed that the soccer cone and Ziploc were missing.  Knowing Döner Kebab very well, YHC immediately suspected trickery.  YHC owes DK an apology…

Laughing, but suspecting Team 1 was hiding the cones, Team 2 decided to pursue the stations in a different order.  This is where YHC may have helped with directions.

The hunt continued and each team made it to 6 or 7 of the 8 stations.  More than YHC anticipated.  Great job men.

Back to the Flag – At 6:10, both teams reported back to the flag for various Merkins, and just a little bit of ab work, followed by a Ring of Fire.  Because of the confusion, no winner was selected.  Participation trophies were handed out instead.

    Numberama, Namerama, COT

    No announcements

In planning the Easter Egg Hunt, I felt it could either be a huge success or a complete failure.  It appears to have landed somewhere in the middle.

In the post-workout conversation, it was determined that Team 1 wasn’t playing games by hiding the station cones.  Because the opening instructions weren’t so clear, Team 1 understood that they were to take all the prizes in the bag.  And to be helpful, they were collecting the cones and Ziplocs so YHC would have less clean up.

Thanks again to Aggie for his hour plus drive to join F3RVA and for introducing Hawkeye.  Thanks to the PAX for being good sports this morning.

    Happy Easter!
